This just shows how damn good software is. Sounds awesome. Never as fun as hardware of course but sound wise this is spot on. Always been impressed with their iOS apps, model d, the modular one. Captured the vibe of Moog perfectly. And Animoog remains lovely.
Ok m’gawd, “ but hey, it generates a random what’s-it … “ Thank you Robin for another entertaining and educational fireside chat. As I’ve said, I find you to be the most real and accessible synth influencer around. Thank you for making your passion infectious!
This sounds pretty good! I’ve had a few Moog’s over the years and this certainly sounds familiar to my ears. Of course it lacks some depth but by the time most outboard equipment has been through most home studio converters and mixed in the box, the majority of Moog’s end up sounding like this on finished records of today
I had some critics on latency cracks in sound lower than 128 samples in the I/O buffer size. But checked this morning again at 128 samples it's just playable. Then really check the presets and it starts more convincing that the sound is real good. The CPU sucking indeed results in very awesome sound. It's an absolute Killer sound
Great review. I own both native and iOS versions and love it. As I watch this, it seems there might be some additional options only available in the native? And while this is primarily designed as a BASS synth, the range of this thing is off the charts. Layering with 2 Moog Voyagers (which love stereo modulation!!!) They do need to allow for per layer pitch bending. I want to turn it off in some cases. (Try the sync)
I installed the VST today, it's quite CPU hungry, even idle already goes from 5% to 40% of the Live cpu monitoring. I have a Moog Sirin so I am still thinking of whether to buy it or not. It does sounds great, not arguing here. I installed trial for 10 days until I make my mind.
Instantly bought upon release cos you know, moog for $29 (NZD) no brainer. I wonder whether Moog are moving beta testing potential hardware ideas to iOS to test the market? Would be an amazing hardware device
Oh wow. That sounds good. Let me brag and say, ive got a PolyBrute, a Grandmother, and A Trigon 6 Module. And the bass on these is insane, but even with these, the Mariana is still impressive against stuff like this
Great video! What is the USB hub you're using with your iPad? I'm trying to set up my iPad with a controller like yours and get audio out as well. Does that hub have a headphone out jack? Thanks!
I'm quite fascinated and interested by your signal routing. How to connect the iPad with only a USB-C out to not only a midi controller but also getting the sound out completely baffles me. Yes. I'm a moron in terms of that 😂 But I'd love to hear nice suggestions.
very good sounding indeed. I love it a bit already. Love your video cause yo are not simply firing up Presets in sequence but rather go deeper and (thank God someone does) showcase the filter. Other videos only show some sounds , cause „who would be interested to hear if the filter is good on a solftware synth made by moog now?….“ :-) I get your mapping rant but i dont think mapping is a top priority „menu level wise“ that you have to constantly address as you say. Ideally you will map the midi once to the right controller and predominantly use that. Plus when you have done it once you will be much faster next time. I think there is a reason why they made these decisions. Especially on an ipad , i have a 10.5 inch and if i open a synth that has a crowded GUI i tend to use it less. After all it is humans like us designing these instruments and developing and then trying to make the best decision they can. I mean they have proven that they can design and build good synths. Maybe these were made by the grandchildren that are slowly getting into the dfamily business. Who knows .-). Ps: it sounds freaking good doesn`t it
Just bought the VST version haven't installed it yet the intro price was irresistible. Just wondering how many instances can be run on IOS before it grinds to a halt?
So oscillator one and two are always the same waveform, with a variety of different ways to offset them, is that right? I mean fine if that's the case, I just can't find seperate waveforms for the two, am I missing something?
I own 2 analog Rolands, one analog Yamaha, and a Korg, and no, this doesn't sound that good to me. I'm not being a purist. I use the computer for everything except singing, guitar, live drums, though I do plenty of drum replacement. Analog keys make the corny sounds work. VSTs generally make corny key sounds unlistenable and the fat just isn't as fun. However, somehow Sylenth did it. No idea how, but they made a key VST sound good. Other than them, haven't found many. I've wanted a MOOG vst to work for a long time, and Omnisphere's Moog plug in is the closest I've heard.

Gosh, 16 samples is flying very close to the sun, I’m surprised you can run anything. I would consider 128 samples to be “normal “ unless you’re live monitoring drums or something. But it is a hefty plugin. Probably why there’s not a larger effect section.
It's more than likely going to be doing bass, so bounce it to audio. I'm not noticing my CPU sweating, but it was a top of the range Intel i9 a year ago. U-He Diva on 'Divine' resolution - now that is CPU intensive

you made a great point about showing which synth is active
