Very informative. I don't collect coins but just find watching these videos interesting. You have a very calming way of explaining facts. Keep up the good work!
Superb video, very informative. Great move by the Britannia Coin Company to employ you CC…. These are must watch videos now. I look outward to plenty more in the future
I love watching your video as you give so much information about each coin you are talking about. I bit you are like a kid in a sweet shop when you get some coins you have not got or seen before..thank you for explaining so clearly keep up the good work 👍
Excellent video! Learnt all sorts of things I didn't realise I was interested in! This video really complements the other coin channel I watch. You know, the one, the one that led me here...
Very informative video - thanks. I'd quite like one of those larger EU UK pres 50ps but the only way to get one now is the secondary market - my dream - as is so many others' - is to find a Kew Gardens - also the A-Z 10ps - I've not seen one yet except here and other places online. My Post Mistress friend from who I got 5 of the Jubilee 50ps was sent to another branch to train up the new intake - whilst there she obviously had access to bags and bags of change - she found ALL the A-Z's bar P for Post Office - which a friend gifted her for a birthday pressie! I'm also quite fond of the Isaac Newton - but not sure if this has entered circulation. But once again another great watch as always.
Thank you! I hope you manage to find the coins you are after. The Isaac Newton 50p did go into circulation but it is fairly scarce so a tricky one to find. 👍 -CC
Excellent video. Those a to z 10p coins are so hard to come by. Also a lot less fun hunting through 10ps than it is hunting through 50ps as there far more to find. Heres hoping for more 10ps in future!
holy smokes i remember having one of these thinking to keep hold of it like i do when i see other fancy 50p coins but never did ......loving this channel finding it very therapeutic, you have that ASMR kinda voice
I’m still waiting for my Kew, but interesting information. Lovely background music Christopher, but I just found it a tad too loud and struggled to focus on what you were saying. It could be just me, but I thought it best to give my viewer experience in a kindly way. Keep up the the informative videos, I love them 🙂
I’m from the US and I’d never heard of Kew Gardens before. After a quick google search I’m in love! There’s so much I want to see and do in England I’m afraid I’ll either have to spend months there or make several trips.
The Kew Gardens 50p has grown so much In value since I bought one in 2018 for £85 , which seemed a lot of money for a 50p at the time but it’s now worth double , so not as painful of a price considering how much it’s worth now
I've just paid £185.00 for a kew garden for my collection, I've been collecting for 6 years and have never seen one I've got a few Olympics left to collect can't wait for it to arrive.
I had one for years since 2007. Always collected them, them my girlfriend decided to start spending my 50p. By the time I realised she already spent the Kew gardens
CC I absolutely love this video my friend great stuff BCC, these info vids are brilliant and offer a vast range of information on some truly iconic coins 👏👏👏
Another good video Christopher with a coin of great interest to many new collectors and good explanations. I was collecting pennies pre decimalisation and the Kew Gardens equivalent were 1950 (240,000) and 1951 (120,000) and we all lived in hope for a 1933 (6)!! Looking forward to more videos and something on spotting fakes would be informative and helpful for collectors. I have bought several from Aliexpress (including a 1933 penny) just to see what they look like in the hand. By the way I'm intrigued to know what is the 50 coin set on the shelf behind you.
Yes a predecimal penny hunt should be on the cards some time we have buckets of them haha! The set behind are all the different counties of the UK. I have yet to open it up to see if they are coins or tokens though. 😁👍 -CC
Oh lord… I have 2 Kews!! One of which came from a vending machine I’d deliberately put £2 into hoping for 50p’s in change! What a play on my behalf 👌🙌😂
The best coins always show up when I least expect them, don't think I will beat the 2006 Baliwick of Jersey £2 coin someone paid for a bus fare with anytime soon.
A very informative upload including the info on the chancellor of the exchequer that helps determine what gets circulated. Also nice to hear you pronounce Z as Zed😂😂
interesting insight into mintage and circulation. I would never had known that the lead in is 4 years before a coin can be released Thank you for this informative video
Thanks for the interesting video on the Kew Gardens. - What I have always said to friends is that demand will determine price/desirability for a 'collector' item weither coins or books, games etc. - My family has several hundred books that are extremely rare, some that are mabye one out of 20 or 50 in the world but because of low demand they are basically worth very little, but still very cool to see or have.
I have two of those Kew ones that I had found in my change, they were excellent condition, I’ve put them away somewhere, doubt whether they were worth a fortune, trying not to spend them if I became skint.
I would guess not that many a 1997 Britannia is still common as hell in everyday change, similiar to the 2019 shield. I date check all my coins even definitive I've found two 2017 shields which are good but still not found a 2008 Britannia.
I’ve been collecting coins since I was around 12 years old and actually have 3 Kew Garden 50p’s. Perhaps more were released in the area I live, I don’t know. I’m maybe worth holding onto them for longer and the price will increase even more.
I'm glad to say I have the Kew 50p, got many years ago in my change. I think it still has luster but perhaps some tiny marks. I'd say Almost Uncirculated grading, or perhaps Extremely Fine at its worst.
I remember running a shop a decade ago and having one of these in the till along with many other commemoratives which we kept as novelties. One day we had no change for the window cleaner and bye-bye Kew Gardens 😂
Whoopsie! I think most people have a story about one that has crossed their palms at some point so you are not alone having done that. In fact the was an employee of the Royal Mint who spent 2 on a big mac before it was announced how few had been minted 🤣 -CC
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed. The Kew copy is a nice way to fill the gap you never know then the real deal might turn up they are still out there in our change 😁👍 -CC
Im kicking myself everytime someone mentions a kew gardens 50p. I had one years ago as a teenager and i remember distinctly looking at the design on it and thinking thats an unusual 50p and thought it was the leaning tower of piza. Back then I didnt even know people collected coins or there were rare ones etc so i went out and spent it on crisps and fizzy drinks!
Yes Christopher I have e the 2009 set in mint condition in base metal I also have the10p full set in mint condition and the Eu presidency in base metal I have two thanks for sharing really instresting
I did think about including it as it is a circulating coin but not one intended for circulation as it was so thought rather than muddy the water keep it simpler. A followup video on that coin for sure though 😁👍 -CC
Very interesting video. Just out of interest, if someone were to have say a kew garden or any other rare coin and was to sell it, how would they go about it?
Nice Vid. So would a BUNC Kew Gardens be worth more than a circulating one? I still think a rummage trough their long store is worth an afternoon. I bet there is a few left LOL
You would be surprised how many people have had a kew in the past and not known. But live and learn and next time you come across one I'm sure you'll keep it. -CC
I did explain that in the video. Basically the Royal Mint were told to mint a certain amount of 50ps for the year. That projection was later reduced and they had already made enough so they stopped any further production and they were 210,000 into the run of coins. -CC
i wonder how many of the 210,000 are still actually in circulation. my guess would be not many at all. i heard that its said at least 80% of the 210,000 are in hands of people who know its value.
I've just paid £185.00 for a kew garden, it is lightly circulated I'm very happy with it, I've been collecting for 6 years, I didn't think I would ever find one, so I bought it.
If you are lucky enough to have one of them then I am very jealous. The rarity of the circulating one has certainly inflated the price of the silver proof -CC
I don’t know how but I got lucky 3 times and got the coin. (Real) I check to make sure they’re not fake…. I put one on a bid and it sold for over 1,000……
Did you know the real reason the old larger 50p stopped being made. Where it was so ‘weighty’ it made a good missile for football hooligans to throw at players, rival fans and officials. This is obviously total nonsense but they really did make a good missile.
Im very confused, is any willing to swap. Are 50p better to collect then pound coins and who uses actual money these days. Im getting my daughter some coins bit secretly im more interested lol. Thanks

I found one in my change in 2012 when I moved to the UK, I thought that it was pretty cool but didnt know the value....!
Oh wow! What a find -CC
This is a great video Christopher, well worth the job title for your manager 👍 lol
Thank you! 😁👍 -CC
Never thought I'd see Christopher holding a Benjamin Bunny with white gloves.
He didn't check the rotation...lol
🤣🤣🤣 -CC
Hahaha! Can confirm no rotation error on that one 🤣 -CC
I wonder how many of the 50p have been taken out of circulation since 1997 due to damage wear and tare.?
Keep up the good work Christopher 👍

I have a copy Kew ... with copy printed on the reverse. I got this as I can't afford to buy a real one.
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed. The Kew copy is a nice way to fill the gap you never know then the real deal might turn up they are still out there in our change 😁👍 -CC

How much did those 2009 sets cost to buy originally and how much will they cost now
Hard to say as the collection was bought all together. I believe they were on the website for £380 -CC
I do have one of those irb copy kews, happy to take it out of circulation. Also, the alphabet 🤯 make no wonder I've STILL not seen one in my change.
Yes the Alphabet 10ps are so tricky to get your hands on. -CC
great video again very interesting
Thank you Barry -CC
I have the Kew Gardens in a 2009 year set. is it worth any more than the ones put out for general use?
Seen loads of these when the came out back in 2009 wish I kept them lol
Where can we find the mintage figures for each coin?
I'd recommend either the Royal Mint website or Numista 👍 -CC
Yes Christopher I have e the 2009 set in mint condition in base metal I also have the10p full set in mint condition and the Eu presidency in base metal I have two thanks for sharing really instresting
This is a great video but we’re dose the 2008 Mule 20p fall into this.
I did think about including it as it is a circulating coin but not one intended for circulation as it was so thought rather than muddy the water keep it simpler. A followup video on that coin for sure though 😁👍 -CC

There are some very nice coins in the 2009 set as well which make the set more valuable than just the kew 👍 -CC
Although I'm not a coin collector, I know I have handled a Kew and wished I had known then what we know now.
You would be surprised how many people have had a kew in the past and not known. But live and learn and next time you come across one I'm sure you'll keep it. -CC

Why was the mintage figure so low did the dye break or something
I did explain that in the video. Basically the Royal Mint were told to mint a certain amount of 50ps for the year. That projection was later reduced and they had already made enough so they stopped any further production and they were 210,000 into the run of coins. -CC

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed 😁👍 -CC
I've got it!!!
Very nice! -CC
I have one of these how much are they really worth ypu see all differnt prices
If designers send in drawings anonymously how do the Mint inform them they have been chosen?
🤣🤣🤣 That is a very good point! What do they do if multiple designers claim the work is theirs 😆😆😆 -CC
I have got one of these coins how do I sell it
We buy them there is a sell your coins section on it - britanniacoincompany.com/sell-your-coins/ 😁👍 -CC
I have 3 of these at home in a cupboard lol
Is the 2019 version just as expensive as the original 2009 Kew Gardens ?
No the original holds significantly more value. The 2019 restrike does still hold a decent value though 😁👍 -CC
Are people that work in banks allowed to have a sort through the change?
i wonder how many of the 210,000 are still actually in circulation. my guess would be not many at all. i heard that its said at least 80% of the 210,000 are in hands of people who know its value.

With a dash of hype as well 🤣 -CC
What about the silver one
If you are lucky enough to have one of them then I am very jealous. The rarity of the circulating one has certainly inflated the price of the silver proof -CC
