This review- the catfish Camaro is one of the best bang for your buck performance cars with the LS1 under it's hood. We go in depth with this budget corvette. With it's acceleration very strong for an "older" car, this is with no doubt predecessor to cars like the 2017 camaro zl1 and 2016 camaro ss Thanks for watching! More below!

@@IsaiahWring I had a 2000 Z24 and just got a 98 Z24 last week actually.
It's been used rough but I don't mind putting the work into them, definitely a fun car for the money.
i think the 98-02 camaro SS is beyond gorgeous. some of the best body lines of any car imo.

F-Body Finally! Just bought a 2002 WS6 and it's amazing!
Turbros Garage did you get your nitrous working properly?
Nicholas Rodrigues yep since I got an AEM o2 sensor I've tuned the mixture perfectly
Turbros Garage nice. Looking forward to the next video of it.
Turbros Garage I just started watching your channel. funny to see you here with an 8 month old comment lol
Man those are fun I remember my auntie had a red ws6

I guess you could say you are all a "school" of Camaros.
Thank you, I'm here all week.
Wesley Green hell yeah dude.
lul
God I need another catfish. I miss my old one even if it was a V6 :(
peter2011tc yeah even the v6s are reliable as hell.
Actually, 4th gen F-bodys have taken multiple national autocross championships in recent years. And they've been appreciating in value the last 5 years.
Either way, they're great rides.
David!!!! I couldn't believe you actually reviewed an Fbody!!! A dream come true!
If only it were a 6 speed (sad face)
never clicked on a video so fast
Lj 88 j feel you man, as soon as it popped up on my notifications, I couldn't believe it!
Lj 88 these Camaros are the best imma make one a drift car😈😈
please dont
Glad to hear it!
The gen 4 was about a thousand pounds lighter than the new Camaro , i would love to take the complete drivetrain from a new one and put it in my 95 .
I own a 2001 Camaro SS LS1 6spd it's in red with black interior, car has 117,000 kilometres on it and runs and drives as good as the day it was built. People that knock these cars calling them the poor mans Vette need to go drive one or at least go for a ride in one, these things are straight line missiles for there era and very reliable. Since I've had mine I put on a set of 4 tires, replaced the clutch (previous owner killed it) and put a Flowmaster cat back system on it absolutely everything else is the way she came off the assembly line! I LOVE MY CAMARO ❤️
Derek Joon gayyyy
Derek Joon how's the gas mileage?
ViralHero Around town she's a bit of a pig but on the highway about as good as a current V8
city mpgs aint too good. on the highway, expect upwards of 25mpg

OMG FINALLY AN F BODY YESSSSS
Max Motion the f body is so dope
Finally u did a Fbody!! 👍 Now review a WS6 😀
And do a review on the new ZL1 ☺☺☺
Albert Guzmán it's the same with a better interior if you mean a 4th ge WS6. A 3rd gen Firehawk would be more interesting IMO
Albert Guzmán Yes
yes ws6!!!
Floyd Waters I have a GTA so I'd like to see that but unfortunately 90% of the comments for that would be people bitching about the transmission or hp number.
David, the LT1 350 was a beast in its day and could easily be modified with consumer bolt ons to well over 400hp to the wheels NA..... hard to say that's not fast :)
Well Said got my Bolt on LT1 in the 12,s with street tires. I did have Ported Heads and some weigh reduction
Ya it’s just a small block, can get 800 out of it
Owning an LT1, I can say get the LS1 too, but the LT1 is definitely nothing to mess with either. Good review.
LT1 _ Sam yeah Lt1s can take a beating lol
Lt1 gang squad up
The lt1s main issue is the ls1 exists in the same platform lol. And the optispark
Can beat that low end torque of the lt1.
@@redneckwithajeep5001 mines replaced with an msd and is damn near bullet proof
Yesterday I bought a showroom quality 17000 original mile 02' Z28. So I've been watching utube videos tonight about 02' Camaros. Guy I known for 25years bought it new to add to his Camaro collection and decided he had to thin his herd a bit and offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. Red 6 speed car. He put stainless longtubes with Borla system in it along with an intercooled procharger. It was stored in a climate controled car museum of a garage its whole life.
I like the handling, exterior look and interior layout of my 91' 1LE Z28 better but this 02 is a beast and it has a cupholder!
It's amazing how since I've started my own RUclips channel I'm more studying these videos more than just watching them. Examine where the cuts are and the music use. It's seriously impressive. Hopefully one day I'll make videos of this quality. Keep up the amazing work David!
Made me laugh when you said to run away from the v6 version. I picked up a clean v6 one for basically as a roller. Doing a 6.0 truck engine with 4l80e trans and some boost
So you ran away from the v6 to v8. Got it
So you ran away from a V6

As an owner of a 2002 Camaro v6, its not super slow making right at 200 horse to the wheels(stock), got some nice header's on it, nice loudmouth cat back exhaust, and a decent tune it makes right at 225 horsepower. Nothing too crazy, nice for a beginner/starter car to do some work too.
I've always loved 4th gen F-bodies, '98+. They seem to be pretty polarizing, but I always dug the look. You don't find too many this clean anymore!
Like mine! except Lt1 lol. don't underestimate the LT1 with a little money and the proper tuning and bolt ons the car can be very fast. Taking the time to make them fast is what people love.
Technically all camaros untill 02 are "F body"
1970 - 2002 = F body , gen 1's were G body cars , new Camaros are reskinned Cadillac ATS chassis .
Where are you getting your information. That is incorrect. You do realize what a Gbody is, right? And that's NOT a Camaro or Firebird... Ben is correct. 67-'70 were also Fbody cars, up until '02.
jerry henderson the g bodys were the 80's regal monte's and cutless
You forgot to mention the best part about the car. The curb weight!!!
Lighter than a C7 Corvette.
The f body weighed 3700 pounds lol
3550 with the lt1 and 3400 with the ls1 still a boat of a car lmao
Btterthanyu the lowest weight fbody was 3300 😒
@@taylorsaumier7155 boat of a car? Yeah probably compared to your civic lol and it would still be faster.
4th gen f body’s are lighter than a Mini Cooper 😂

As a long time subscriber and big fan of your reviews, I am thrilled to finally see a 4th gen LS F-body review! I liked the '80s Firebird KITT review you did, but the LS cars are my top favorite. Nice work David!
Yes! I've been waiting on an ls1 f-body review😂
I own one as well with a bunch of mods!
I have a 95 Z28 with an LT1 although it's no LS1 it's still pretty quick for how old it is and it is a lot of fun to drive i will admit though when the engine blows it's going to get 5.3L.
WeeabooDesu if the engine blows. Good luck with that
I have the same car “ but I have the LT1..
Just put your lt1 on spray
as a 4th gen ls1 f body camaro owner. this pleases me. been waiting for a review on these from you
The interior of the SS was brought to you by Mattel!
I had been waiting for this review. Bought me a 2000 z28 like 2 weeks ago, and I'm in love.
I always call these the surf board camaros when I see them lol
God, 98 through 02 F bodies were my favorite car for years. Now I'm more into Euros and luxury Japanese cars, but these will always hold a special place in my heart.
As someone who owned a Z28 auto for 2 years (BBK longtubes, Full SLP Y pipe and tune) the auto version of these cars does the best from 30 mph roll while it will still shift into first gear. Mine ran 13.4's
Nice to see some muscle car love! Good to see older camaros on a channel other than our own :)
Yea love older muscle cars! The third gen on your channel is dope

Cars and Stuff lol all a camaro owner had to do was boost it, & it was good night cobra
Cars and Stuff had to boost the mustang just to be a little faster than the NA ls1.
Cars and Stuff Lmao NA vs Fat supercharger and almost double the price? k
Trevon Adams love reading comments like these. Nothing funnier than reading a comment from a butthurt moron lmao.
a NA cobra and Camaro was a drivers race. a terminator would dust one. sure it's supercharged but it's also 1.1 liters smaller. the 2v was slower but sold more because more people where buying for looks and the mustang name instead of performance. heck most LS and LT Camaros I see are automatics.
The 3.8litre v6 comaro was still a fast car with a 5speed. I had one. It put out around 200hp but still threw me into the seat.
review a WS6 TRANS AM LS1
About time!! I drive a 02 z28. And I love it to death!
Nice!
Thanks for uploading! Made my day. When I was in high school (2002) I bought a used 2000 v6 with auto. 15 years later I still have it and love it. Sure it's only a 6, but in HS, I worked my ass off and that was what I could afford with insurance. There's something emotional about the car. At least to me. I love it and plan on keeping it forever. Now that I saved a little, I'd like to eventually do a ls2/3 swap with t56, but its been a solid, reliable, great looking car. Chevy nailed it on this on imho.
I have an LT1 firebird and it really isn't bad. I love it. It's my first car and I learned how to drive stick on it. If you find a clean one for cheap I wouldn't hesitate to get an LT1
Finally... back to car reviews
yassss!!!!!! been waiting for the F-Body review for quite some time :D
Traded my 88' Ranger for a 99' Camaro. It's the 3.8 V6 but has a 5 speed manual. It's basically my first stick and I've been loving every second of it.
Nice! When you get to the point that you want more power I'd suggest getting a z28 for cheap
nice david...happy you visiting some classics from late 90's early 2000
Honestly automatic transmissions are underrated, I know manuals are more fun because you're in tune with the car more, but for pure easy chill cruising, I feel like an automatic might be preferable over a manual when it comes to these muscle cars. Like David said, they're easy and smooth. Just a thought
Nah
Yes that’s true if you live in a large city you want an auto.ive got a gen5 SS manual and its ok because im in a small town my 69 Camaro manual was worse they better on the highway.
By far my favourite car right there!! Just in a 6 speed because automatic, cmon now haha..
Morbid Jesus Somebody doesn't have much faith in their shifting ability.
Morbid Jesus the fastest race cars are automatic yes, but it's the fun factor for me.
dsmracing1 3600 stall ftw
Fun factor is having a street bike and I owned many fast ones yet I love the built 4L60E on my Camaro's. With traffic in CT and road quality I don't mind automatic it does it's job.
T56 is a monster transmission
They hold quite a few autocrossing championships too. Hit up UMI if you want to turn corners. The SLA front suspension is actually ideal for cornering. And you can scoop up the LT1(93-97) cars or V6 cars for half the already cheap LS(98-02) car price, and swap in a 5.3 truck engine and an Amazon turbo kit and make 600 to the tire for well under 10k.
I loved my 99 Z28. It was an A4 car with factory 3.23 gears. It won a lot of races back then.
@@johnraymcadams5281 I'm pretty sure the performance rear axle option, I believe it was "GU5" was a 323. I think 373 would have been the sweet spot though.
The LTs were pretty good actually, especially these days when they can be had for under $3k.
The older gen 93-97 with the LT1 were also better than the similar period Mustangs but the LS1 is amazing! But I would still say that the LT1 is underrated, is has aluminum headers and reverse cooling and the motor has lots of potential. The only bad thing with them is the water-pump and optispark combination. I miss my Z28 soooo much when I see videos like this! I need to get a 4gen f-body with a LS1 :D
@@johnraymcadams5281 But totally worth it :D
If by better you mean more power stock and slightly faster sure. It looks like a geo storm on steroids and the interior looks like ass compared to 90s mustangs and the rear is made of glass. It has shit quality everywhere the only thing good about them is the engine and trans lol. Fee mods on each the mustangs can more than hold their own especially a 4v. My 97 cobra used to spank similarly modded lt1 6 speed cars but I have the driver mod too. The mustang was also cheaper back then even the cobra barely costed more my 97 cobra new was like 27k camaros were in the low to mid 20s at that time. The lt1 isn't as much in front as gm guys wanna beleive. It's little quicker stock but when both have minor mods the mustangs hold their own with less displacement and less cost (when new)
*edit*
I'm talking gt against the lt1 the 4v cobra starting in 96 could take lt1 and the 94-95 302 cobra could hang right beside an lt1 stock for stock all day the 5.0 cobra was underrated.
I'm a proud owner of a Procharged 00' Chevy Camaro F Body and i enjoyed this review, thank you David, now it's time for a WS6 with a manual review.
Good review, you hit most of the topics on point. I have owned 3 of them, a 98, 97 and 95. The LS1 was a far superior motor to the LT1. My 98 was an auto and went 13.7 on streets bone stock. After a converter, catback, Hypertech tuner and a CAI, it went 12.91 on drag radials. This car you reviewed sounds like it has the 2.73 gear, which is weak as all hell. Mine had the factory 3.42 and it made all the difference. Its good to see people take care of them though, good job!
finally I've been a sub for four years and been asking for a few body review for almost three since I had my v6 firebird
***** awee mann yeah I was barely bout to turn 16 so I was dumb I was looking for a actual transam and the fucker fooled me and yeah bought a v6 "transam" with the engine block going out on me a few weeks later
Radiation94 4th gen Firebirds could be had with a V8. That was the Formula which was not it's own model like Trans Am was.
Don't underestimate the LT1, it makes power way easier than the LS as sounds way better but its not as reliable and there's not too many options, Still love the LS tho
Clo's Tv I agree, the LT1s sound so much better than the LS1s
Clo's Tv the lt1 does not make power easier. the lt1 doesnt gain 70 to 100 hp just from a cam swap. theres reasons why everyone does ls swaps and not lt1 swaps. im assuming you mean the old lt1 and not the new one that came with the 2014 vette. the old lt1 is still good but doesnt hold a candle to the ls1.
Clo's Tv The LT1 does not make power easier than the LS. The biggest limitation are the factory LT1 cylinder heads. LS1 806/853/241 heads flow so much better out of the box.
The new LT architecture is coming along, it's only been out for what, 2 years? LS architecture has been out for almost 20 years now. Have you seen Katech's 427 LT engine? It's pretty mean, makes 700hp N/A.
But the new LT family has a lot of nice stuff like variable cam phasing, oil squirters for the pistons, and direct injection. Give it time, this just feels like when the honda K series engine came out and everyone was saying they were trash and weak and that the B series engines are where it's at, but now you can see raced out N/A build K series engines pushing over 400hp.
Sigma Projects We're referring to the old LT1 from the '90s. You make some great points though.
I’ve owned 94 Lt1 TA, and 2000 TA , both autos. The Lt1 was no slouch. It ran dam good. I put over a 100k miles on it never had a problem with that car. The ls1 pulls hard in the mid range and up. Love them both. Ls1 cars definitely the ones to go with though.
Agree ls1 is the one to have
I used to race against these in my AWD talon around 2000 and they were low 13's trapping 105 or so stock or mostly stock. They were very fast out on the highway too on roll races!
The 4.6 2v was no doubt a bad engine. But they sure sound awesome with the right exhaust!
Yeah they do I'll give them that
Bullcrap the 2V is a very good engine, Our 2V Bullitt ran 13.7 @103 on stock radials. There was an auto WS6 LS1 T/A there same day that couldn't even break out of the 14's with intake and exhaust mods. The LS1 is indeed a great engine no doubt, but by the time you pour another 2 or 3 grand in an F body to replace the cheap shit 7.5" S10 rear end they put in those you can have a 2V running 12's. I still see 2V's running low 13's all night long at the track.
That camaro was spinng out of the hole if it only ran 14s.Stock LS1s run 13s on street tires and the the LS1s heads flow more than big block chevy heads do,witch is why they respond to a bigger cam better than most engines do.I will admit that the 7.5 ring gear is weak and the 8.8 rear ends in the mustangs are way tougher than the 7.5.But I disagree with you on the 4.6 being cheaper to make faster. It is a complicated engine and that makes it difficult to work on and more expensive to build. The LS has way more potential for horsepower than the ,4.6 mod motor.

Really missing more car reviews David! Love all of your reviews!
good to see that you're showing the muscle car car guys some love again David.
Finally an fbody review!
It's hard to say if buy one because I'm a firebird boy. But i still might buy a camaro. 😂😂😂
This makes me miss my 94 z28 LT1. I used to be my buddies LS1 camaro off the line due to the higher torque. Once he upgraded his torque convertor (a popular mod for those) the LS1 really shined.
I had a 98 Z/28 and I loved it. Built it up to just over 500hp. To this day best car I've ever owned.
I clicked on this SO fast... hahah
Great Review David! Gotta say though the 6 speed in the fbody of that era is so much more fun than the auto. They also handle pretty well. Not a great reaction at 6:35 from you, but try one on a track or one with suspension mods and push it hard and you'd be surprised! (better tires and brakes help) Great cheap all around platform. Especially for acceleration and drag racing.
I had a 2000 Z28.
put 248000 miles on it .
weak point on those cars is the rear end . I rebuilt mine 3 times.
A car that gets 25 hiway miles and a 150 top speed.
miles of smiles to quote you.
luv the videos.
Don't forget about the valve springs. If you go past 6K, its time to pray!! Yes, the rear-end (10 bolt) is weak. I have a girdle w/ stud kit on my mine, but it only strengthens the rear-end about 25%, but its nice to not have to worry about my pinion seal every time I want to have some fun. The chassis is weak too, for the power and torque delivery of the LS1, Sub-frames are a must if you want to keep all the exterior panels lined up.
I love the f body platform, my neighbor got a 96 in 98 and I've been driving them ever since. I will say he was upset when my 06 WRX ran door to door with his 02 trans am, still great fun car to drive
I hope you do more of these..... modified and stock..... but david.... the lt1 was plenty fast trust me. the 275hp the 5.7 lt1 and like 340ftlbs was plenty.... and some say those numbers too was underrated. However awebsite review wish it was longer
Lt1’s are absolute shit.
@@Eidrian111 how are the lt1s shit? I've had mine about 7 months, pulls hard and surprises alot of cars. I ran a 13.6 with an intake, long tubes,3in catless y pipe to 3in flowmaster exhaust, and stock tune. Sure they got the optispark issue but they are still great cars and motors
@@ochocinco2891 yawny yawn. Just the fact that you mention the optispark you prove my point. Failed design that when the ls1 came they push the lt1 to the oblivion.
Great review David! I'm not crazy about the 4th gen but the LS1 is a great engine!
Carlos Orozco ls1 was the missing key prior to 1998
That's exactly how I feel, I want a LS platform but don't wanna spend a ton of money
I bought a 2002 Z28 convertible new. Within the first month I installed subframe connectors, and replaced the tires, shocks, torque converter, and intake air box. We have lived happily ever since. 80,000 miles and it still rocks.

Same. I liked the other video, but I'm just waiting on a fox that is actually fast.
ThatDudeinBlue Oops. Sorry. I meant I was still waiting for a review on your friend's Fox that he was building a while ago! Or if you could find a heavily modified one to review that'd be cool too!
my friend I met at a local car meet, was selling an 01 Camaro z28 ls1 auto, with 100,000 and a cherry interior for 4,000. absolutely one of the best bang for your buck cars around. speaking of fbodys, I also met another guy here in reno, and he's got the SLP version, and I can tell you from seeing it with my own eyes, it's got the SLP intake, ls6 manifold and TB, with the factory SLP exhaust, he was keeping up head to head with my friend in a 2016 Camaro SS a8, which by the way, I'd really like to see one of those in the upcoming reviews. they are absolute animals. great build quality and an absolute factory monster. great job on this video and hopefully you can find time to read. thanks!
I've had two Friend bodies. Awesome v8 sound and power, and decent handling. Mine were 6 speeds which I prefer. Also I got them cheap, great bang for the buck!
Yeah it's true that the Camaro was better than the 4.6 2v engine wise but the new edge looks a million times better and then yenno, the terminator cobra came out and made chevy shit its pants.
I do love the look of the new edge a little bit more, and agreed the Terminator is more fun to drive.
Gordon Spring haha I was gonna leave the same comment.
+yfz450r hands full, please, it'll rape a Camaro of this gen
yfz450r mach 1 vs fbody is a driver's race. Terminator will spank a ls1.

Alex I sold my camaro ss grille today a guy who had a 04 gto ls1. The engine bay is awesome on the gto. The whole ls1 engine is exposed all the way around. Easy to work on. While in. The camaro is tucked in under the dashboard a bit and hardly any room to work on it lol
My man! I have both an '05 Goat and a '97 SS. Love them both for different reasons.
The suspension of these are brilliant! I've got a 94 Firebird.
This is why I like your channel. Your note biased! Thanks for doing this review!
FINALLY AN FBODY
Should do a 3rd Gen Camaro Z28.
I had a customer who would only let me work on her vehicles. She had a 99 SS w/6speed it was the dark blue/green color. I did all the service on it and always enjoyed having it in my shop.
I'm more of a Mustang guy and yet I'm still super excited for this!
I remember when my friend had a 99 z28 and would smoke 04 mustangs with no mods 😂😂

Luis Rivera stop lying a stock Ls1 is not even a challenge for an 04 cobra. This is coming from an LS1 owner.
Marcello Wheeler lt1 engine lol
Wow no shit. Obviously an engine with 70 more cubic inches would win.
Luis Rivera no 98-2002 ls1
Finally!!😂 Thank you David
ive been waiting to see this vid forever now. wish i had mine ready back when you were in va
I love this generation camaro. Very good bang for your buck and without this car, we would have never been gifted the terminator Cobras. The great thing about Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge is that the consumers win.
I ran into him at WOFFULHOUSE lol
YEEEEESSSSSSS FUCKING FINALLYYYYYYYY DAVID
What an honest review. As for your complaints about the car: Braking, there is something wrong because mine braked great. The handling,, more than likely he needs new struts/shocks, the originals went bad between 15k and 25k miles. Bilstein's HDs will fix that, also sway bar endlinks are probably worn, happens on all of them. Keep up the good work!
I remember test driving a 1998 Camaro Z28 SS, it was white with the orange stripes. For a 10 year old it was amazing. He didn't buy it though... decided we needed a Chevy Blazer instead. I cried a little.
If it was white w/orange stripes, it was a '97 anniversary edition.. like mine.
Thanks for repping the LS community.
Brodrick Gibson I got you lol
Honestly this car looks pretty ugly but can look good when done right, but very good when it comes to horsepower to cost ratio

Nismo Nick ☹️☹️☹️
Slidewayz _ but yours is done right
As of 2018 my '97 SS slp still pushes great. Last year of cast iron engine but without a passenger, handles great and is a thrill to drive. Don't think I will ever sell it.
Yeah dont sell it
So glad this video showed up on my recommendations, or else I would've not noticed that I have been un-subbed to ThatDudeinBlue.

Automatic transmission?
ivcars003 the dragracer's transmission of choice
Nicholas Rodrigues yep
ivcars003 yeah
That's the truth. Only an idiot thinks it's better to have a Manuel as opposed to automatic for drag racing.
Good transmission, it is also in my work truck. 1994 Chevy K1500 Z71 297K miles and over drive finally went and used it for snow plowing towing my 2008 Exmark Lazer mowers and 50 yards of mulch per year. 4L60E transmission was one of the best transmissions ever made.
I owned one of these back in the day and they handle and brake way better then he or most people give credit for. Perhaps this one is a bit beat. They have very predictable over steer and are easy to drive (the convertibles and especially auto convertibles understeer ). The live rear axle will jump the rear end what feels like a foot if you hit a big bump on a turn doing 80-100 mph, although unnerving its kinda fun as well. Very fun car that is easy to drive with the throttle and drift etc. I did a lot of 4 wheel power on drifting around turns. You must get the Manual if you want to do anything other then straight pulls for fun.
💟 My ls1, 2000 Z-28. Compared to my 96 Z-28 Lt1, I would have to say the power level felt about the same. Just a few easy bolt ons and your flying...
