    in a guide about how to get the techs one wants you could also mention that certain scientist traits like maniac or the right scientist field increase the likelihood of some techs by a lot. Like synthetics has a weight modifyer of x0.2 (so only showing up with one fifth the likelihood) if your scientis is not maniacal, spark of genius, the curator scientist or an industry expert.
    So if you are gunning for certain techs it's good to know what modifiers it has and how to manipulate them in your favour in addition to what thechnologies to research as a prerequisite :)

      Late reply but the way i build my fleet is having a combination of shield and armor, for the weapon part i mix shield + armor/hull breaker(you can hove over the tooltip and see what kind of damage does the particular weapon has)
      Essentially, counter build your opponent
      Say the AI has 3 armor and 2 shield + 2 armor weapon breaker and 2 shield weapon breaker, you’ll want to build your ship like this
      3 anti armor weapon, 2 shield breaker weapon
      For protection 4 shield or 4 armor(to nullify his other weapon)

Plenty of times I could choose to research Tier 2 missiles over Tier 1 because of it (and on a rare occasion, I completed missile research purely by scanning debris).

    What I would see in those space 4x games: A modular tech-development. Lets say you have severall tech-components and you decide to "improve kondensators by 2%". After a while you have better kondensators. And do this again with "cristal focus" and "energy cell" you combine them to a "laser gun". Then you can decide to improve the laser gun in total (expensive) or you can decide to "improve cristal focus by soandso percent" (cheaper). I dont like those limited tech trees where every civilisation is having the same techs only with minimal variations.

  • @Zefn4r
    @Zefn4r 4 года назад +1

    Btw Stefan, you also could talk a bit about non-infinite-repeatable tech like Fleet Management, which can only be researched 5 times as a repeatable. It's interesting enough in the late game to research those as you will have less options at each roll in the late game when you may need resource enhancement or gun +% as a top priority (Like for fighting an incomming crisis)

    • @Stefan_Anon

    Part of me wants the tech tree to be more comprehensive and less random, maybe like Civ where it's a clear tree you go up or even HoI where it's just categories within that big tree for Great War era techs. Another part kinda likes it's made chaotic to prevent easy exploitation and it takes some out of body analysis to see exactly how to get a civilization from exoskeleton tools to synthetic intelligence as fast as possible, like starting in the dark age and trying to tell someone what a lightbulb is you gotta let them get a few techs on the lower levels and maybe get the idea for using electricity for lighting.

In particular what building to build when, amenities and consumer goods management etc. I know the what does what and I understand all the tooltips but I can't make it work. In my multiplayer games my robot playing buddies are leaving me behind. I have a feeling that whilst they are building Foundries and Research Centers, I am using my resources, pops and building space for support buildings such as Consumer Goods, Theaters and then I start to run out of living space. Never ending circle in which I can build very few Foundries and Research labs. 50 years into the game would be ideal. ;) So the title could be: Starting an empire.

    Great video, glad to have content that is up to date on the newest patches and changes. Question: Is it worth it to research the +Research speed techs if you get them at the beginning of the game? Ex. Engineering I?
    Or is it better to focus on economy or bee-lining for specific techs early?
    Likewise, are the generalist bonuses scientist traits that give you +5% or +10% to all research better or worse than the specialist ones that give you bonuses to a subcategory of research?

    • @Stefan_Anon
      @Stefan_Anon  4 года назад +1

      As for your first question, the scientist reaearch techs are not worth it at the beginning. You end up getting only a few % extra production in a single category, since much of your production is either the base science or space science. Administrative AI (+5% research) is worth it tho.
      Depends. I think of it as a total bonus to output (+5% to all = +15% in my mind). You might want to get extra engineering or science at the very beginning of the game tho, since there are very good beginner techs in those trees.

    The only main benefits I'm aware of from Synth ascension are that your currently existing leaders become immortal (and without mods die faster than they would when they were organics) and that you get the power to assimilate.
    Everything else, you can do with a normal empire, and even double-dip with organic and synthetic pops.

    • @Stefan_Anon
      @Stefan_Anon  4 года назад

      Not really. While organics can do the same things as synths, synths are plain better when it comes to production, pop growth, leader bonuses, and getting extra districts. Idk where you are getting the "die faster than they would when organic from", since the mean lifespan for them is over 200 years until they break down, beyond the scope of most runs.

    • @OzixiThrill
      @OzixiThrill 4 года назад

      @@Stefan_Anon Did they then remove/fix the random mechanical breakdown that kept happening to synth ascended empires? Or is that still in to potentially kill one leader every year? Which happened to me three years in a row more than once.
      Also, a non-synth-ascended empire can still produce synths while also having their original population growth. Meaning that Synth ascension is not required to have most of the benefits of having Synths.
      Also, the combined pop-growth, if memory serves, is more than that of a Synth empire, especially with bio-ascension.

    • @Stefan_Anon
      @Stefan_Anon  4 года назад

      Damn, that is really bad luck.
      Yes, but at a significantly reduced rate. You can get 12+ robot pop growth with synth ascention since you get extra assembler jobs. The main reason why synths are good is that you can STILL have organic growth. All you have to do is modify some of your pops to regular organics from cyborgs before ascention. You get nutty pop growth that way.

    Are some techs locked behind DLC? I'm new to the game and was trying to go for droids and eventually synthetics, but I've made it to 2400ish so far and still no droids. I've got all the prerequisite techs, it just hasn't appeared for me yet.

    • @Brozinger_Gaming
      @Brozinger_Gaming 4 года назад

      Some are, like Titans, but I think you can still get synthetics without synthetic Dawn.

  • @Logan-dk8of
    @Logan-dk8of 4 года назад

    With the old planets using the tile system droids and synths were a different species than robots and when you unlocked them you were required to start building the new species and convert all of your robots over. I can only assume this was a bug, but with this old system I would always research droids and I would have wait years before it would actually let me use droids, they just would not show up as an option. I recently did my first materialist playthrough with the new system and I had the same thing happen, I researched droids and I waited 10 years and still did not have them. Is there some way to fix this because it makes my materialist playthroughs terrible because I can never actually upgrade my robots, which is why I usually avoid that empire ethic.

    • @Stefan_Anon
      @Stefan_Anon  4 года назад

      The species will still be named "robots". They will, however, have all the capabilities of droids (extra available jobs). The species name does not change when going from robots to droids to synths.

      I agree, i find when i get advanced materials like motes and gases i dont balance well and run out of minerals... at the base level everything takes minerals and energy and how to adequately build the planets, keep a fleet, and not run out? I usually say screw it and expand so i get more planets to mine. Even the matter decompressor usually doesnt provide enough minerals for me to fully build my occupied planets. Building habitats just for minerals is a pain. Or am i just upgrading too many buildings? Sorry for the long reply lol.

    Don't you live it when you have a research system that is so obscure in game that you require either a guide or hundreds of hours of trial and error to understand it's intricacies but even then you still constantly need to have the wiki ready just to see how to increase your chances to get the tech you want
    This system is so perfect, I totally support the fact that it has never been up for debates since launch to change it in any meaningful way and appears nowhere on the dev wishlist, that's because it is just too good and has no flaws whatsoever ☺

    Love your content and appreciate the work you put into this game's community but just some advice. Its very easy to hear you are trying to pronounce your words to make yourself sound clear. Your speech is more pleasing to the ear every time you speed up and talk naturally, so try to talk into the mic the way you would normally talk to someone in person. Just some constructive criticism, otherwise love your content it's very helpful.

      @jandyb6369 4 года назад

      @Stefan Annon Thanks for liking my post. It is purely constructive and I mean no offense especially if english is not your first language. But when you talk your last word ends in a higher pitch. If i were to type your speech out, it would look like THIS. This is my TUTORIAL. You need to research this TECH. Hopefully this breaks the glass for you and would love for you to improve your casting. You're doing great but just work on your pitch and tone you'll be a top caster in no time.

    I am very new to the game and in my first, current playthrough almost every empire has "overwhelming" technology compared to mine. I pay the curators every 10 years to help with tech and hire their scientists, I have research agreements with two empires and i steal technology from enemies i beat in battle thanks to the special projects but nothing helps. no i did not forget to assign scientists to technologies. If anyone knows please tell me how it might have happened and how to prevent my tech deficit next playthrough

    • @patrickmooney18
      @patrickmooney18 2 года назад

      Those are all great strategies. I would also recommend starting discovery and going the science ascension perk. That will boost your science 20-30%. Then, make sure your empire capitol is almost entirely tech labs, as soon as possible. Lastly, research habitats are quite strong mid to late game.
      Other small tips would be to use a science ship to “assist research” on your tech capitol.

    If you have techs you really want, you can start researching one tech, and before you finish it select the other tech. Once you have some progress in that tech they will always appear. It will take a bit longer to research the first one, but that's a small sacrifice too make in order to avoid not seeing that essential tech for several rolls.
