This is a helpful video, thank you. Do you know of any cases of a successful extension application for medical reasons? I am in Spain half the time (within 90 day limits) but am considering applying for this in order to continue and conclude private medical treatment for a recently discovered and serious brain condition that requires an in -patient procedure and then potentially a larger operation with a few weeks recovery time. The alternative is returning to the UK and starting from scratch, probably waiting weeks at every stage, whereas it's been incredibly rapid here in Spain. Several specialist appointments and MRI in a couple of weeks. Also, it's not clear from what I've read (if the extension was approved) whether your passport is returned to you after the application process, or at the end of the extension? And how would you resume the calculation of your rolling 90/180 allowance at the end of an extension period - would the days covered by the extension period simply not count as Schengen days?

Hello, @james737! To apply for an extension of your residence permit in Spain for medical reasons, you will need to fill out form EX-00. In the section "Reasons justifying the application and length of extension requested", you can explain the medical reasons that justify the extension. After submitting the application, you may need to hand over your passport to the authorities while the application is being processed. Once a decision has been made on your application, you will be notified by email or post. If your application has been approved, you will need to collect your foreign identity card (TIE) from an immigration office. If your application has been refused, your passport will be returned to you. The days covered by the extension period will not count as Schengen days for the 90/180 rolling allowance. Therefore, once you have been granted the extension, your 90-day period will start from the end of the extension period. As for the temporary termination indemnity, the worker is entitled to an indemnity equal to the proportional part of the amount that would result from paying 12 days' salary for each year of service.
