I literally just bought an X100F 2 weeks ago used. Even though I knew the V was coming, I knew it would be WAAAAAY out of my price range. For me, the X100V in Canada is $1,800 before taxes $2,035 after Ontario taxes. And I got my X100F for $800 flat and in pristine condition. So I shouldn't complain. But man, if I had the money I would order it in a heartbeat haha Can't wait to see more videos of the X100v Joe!! Can't wait!
Mr Tech I don’t get it as well. Why IBIS is so useful for this kind of camera ?? I use to have it on my Olympus, and a part for for some low shutter shots I do not miss it at all since 2014. I do not argue the fact you want it, I just want to understand why? Thanks
Wow, Joe! Congrats on being invited by Fuji to their launch event. You have done such a great job with your videos and presenting and representing Fuji cameras over the last years, it's surely deserving. Your videos and photos convinced me (and a lot of others) to buy Fuji cameras, the X100 and the XH1 for me, and they helped me define my own style and approach. I'll surely upgrade my X100S to the X100V coming March. I was also wishing for weather-sealing and I couldn't be more satisfied. The way Fuji implemented the tilt-screen is just fantastic. I'm looking forward to your future content as it is always informative, entertaining, really inspiring (your videos back in late 2016 pushed me to go out and try photography) and and a visual pleasure to watch. Cheers!
Thanks for being such a loyal subscriber over these years and I'm so glad you're inspired to go out and shoot photos! I had no real idea of how the event would pan out to be honest, they've only done it twice before, so it's an evolving concept. I just knew the opportunity to meet with the company and get to know the designers would be extremely valuable and it absolutely was! Hopefully it will lead to more opportunities to get involved with them in the future...
Perfect japanese alleyway camera. Seriously, I've been in love with the x100f because of your videos and was planning on getting it... And now there's this one. Tough choice. The flexible screen and better EVF kind of make a difference for me... Keep up the good videos. I admire you for creating your own style and being all around a really good photographer and youtuber.
I will be putting a deposit down on a black one, weather sealing and new lens all the reasons I need. I love the X100 line and Fuji in general for that matter.. I got a x-t1 which was my first digital camera, then x-pro 1 which I still have. Then I got a h1 when they were really cheap and then finally got a second hand 100f. I love the fact it fits in my pocket and it goes with me nearly everywhere
Thanks for the review. The weather sealing was a big surprise and the main reason I’m going to buy this camera! I’m from Surrey in England and the trouble is, it doesn’t rain enough. Juggling work with free time, it’s rare to be able to go out in the knowledge that it’s going to be raining. Having said that, I went to Notting Hill Carnival two years ago with an XT3 and it chucked it down throughout my visit. So the XT3 really proved itself. I’m trading in for the X100V. (It’s more of a street photography camera).
Tilt screen could've been a flip screen. Not a fan of the dial removal if you're supposed to use touch screen or the little nib (which isn't good in my opinion). Weather seal and usb C are the best improvements in terms of the body. Need to wait and see how it's priced and performs to see if it's worth an upgrade from X100F
I just picked up the X100F for $900 in Silver 10/10 condition with the manuals, box, and extra accessories. Such a beautiful camera. I was going to get the X100V but the price is not worth it and I really like the D-Pad on the F because they remove the D-Pad in the V.
I was excited to finally feel like I can buy an x100f, but man.. that's lens and flip screen, WR... Might just save some more.. BTW, would love to see a video filmed entirely with the x100v internal but also external mic ofc!
It’s like I made a list of all the things I wanted in a successor to the F and then they ticked them all off… Lots of upgrades that I would put in the ‘nice to have’ category (improved sensor/ISO dial/ND filter/AF, USB-C charging, weather sealing, flip and touch screen etc), but the two things that stand out above all and make this an instant pre-order are the improved in-camera processing capabilities (the ability to control things like clarity and process HDR in-camera will really fulfill the promise of this camera for users that want to get away from post processing entirely) and the improved lens. I know it doesn’t bother everyone, but for me the softness and unsatisfying hazy quality of the lens close up wide open has always been the achilles heel of the X100 line. Even it’s if its only a modest improvement in sharpness it’ll be worth the upgrade for me. I’ll probably take a pretty big hit by selling my F and trading up, but those two features alone make it worthwhile.
I’ve proudly owned 2 original X100 and have been holding off upgrading until now. The S,T and F are amazing but never really attracted me because there wasn’t enough to justify the upgrade especially the same 23 f2 lens. Now THIS 100V is something worth upgrading to. I’m definitely getting one in classic silver. Great video and look forward to your review! I’m heading to Japan in end Feb and hope to be able to get the camera before my trip
Yes you need it. I want you to go back to Yodobashi in Shinjuku, get a silver version, and make yourself really happy! It was one of my favorite episodes of yours for some reason. I really sensed your excitement!
Hi Joe, congratulations on making it to Fujifilm's event. You deserve it, and I think you were the right guest for the announcement of the X100V since you've been advocating the F for all these years. As for where you might take the V for a proper tryout, may I suggest Florence, Italy? I don't recall you doing any videos there and besides it being a beautiful city, there are plenty of street photography possibilities, especially if you explore all of its nooks and crannies. Looking forward to your next content, cheers!
@@joeallam look forward to seeing what you create with it! if you accidentally pick up a spare one from the summit, feel free to send it my way haha. Hopefully see you on the XT4 summit too..
Glad they have improved the silver finnishing, it looks better, the previous silver cameras and lenses didn't look premium to me. It also seems they have done a great work simplyfing the button layout, I wish they'd also change the placement of the focusing switch and q button, they don't look right where there are. What about the leatherette? Do you think they have improved it? The previous didnt feel the best to me. Almost forget to mention I'm very impressed with the flush tilt screen, very neat work there
I credit you for being a big part in my decision to buy a X100F a couple of years ago. I love the camera and I’m not close to getting all the potential out of it. The one thing I’ve missed since the start though is a tiltable screen. I wish I could say that I am hitting the limit of the X100F so that I could validate an upgrade.
Was dreaming about x100 camera since the first version. I had x-e2, now i have fantastic silver x-t3 for a year or so, but still dream about x100... and now i think that dreams should become true with V.
Great first look. I would love to see you make a location-based video exploring the benefits and challenges of using a fixed focal length camera for travel, and how you overcome the obvious limitations when attempting to capture the full sense of a place; the landscapes, the people, architecture, life on the streets, etc. I shoot with an X-pro2 and often end up taking too much stuff in the way of lenses. I always regret it and, on the next trip, I tend to go minimal. I often regret that too, feeling I’ve maybe missed some shots. Hopeless case, huh! So, an honest review in the field of this is when the x100 worked for you, this is when you came up against its limitations, and how you dealt with that. That would be great!
If the X100V have the d-pad I would buy it with no question. I would rather not having the weather resistant or the flip up screen to exchange for the d-pad. Because I feel very useful to setting film profile, white balance and etc on my X-Pro2. What do you think about it.
Awesome first impression video dude. I've just pre-ordered the silver. Came so close to getting the x100f many times but can't resist the x100v with the new upgrades. New to the Fujifilm world, currently shooting with Sony A7iii. In terms of your future videos on it, I'd love to see your favourite in-camera colour profiles for different situations (unless you just shoot raw) and how to get the best colour out of the shots in post.
This is a clear purchase. Portland, OR is sodden enough the weather resistance is worth the upgrade from my beloved X100F. And the light here is great for Superia if shooting street in color...so Classic Neg is welcomed.
I’ve owned my 100F for about a year, so I’ll probably hang on to it for a while yet, though I am tempted by the V. Good to see you on the panel for the launch, and I spoke to you briefly on the opening day of House of Photography. You looked surprised when I called you Mr Allam 😀
Joe, I love your photos as well as your shooting style with the x100f series! Your street photography is amazing, especially with the dubbed 'best street photography camera', but I want to see some portrait style photography from you with the x100 series. I think a lot of people strive to capture images like you, I definitely do! But the majority of others also love capturing people in their photos as well, and I would love to see how you compose shots as well as how the x100f/v would perform with portrait style shooting opposed to just street photography.
did you experience heating issues? I’ve had the T and F and was considering the V, but don’t need a camera that has heating issues with still photography. I don’t use X100’s for video at all, but testimonies I’ve read suggest the heating issue is present during normal shooting.. What say you?
Wow! It has just the right upgrades that I have wanted. I had an X100T. But, this is a game changer! May I say your synopsis of the camera, but no price, was superlative! Well done, you! Would you kindly consider doing a walk around of London, perhaps Southbank from Westminster to Tower Bridge AND a walk from Canary Wharf to Tower Bridge on the Thames Path with a look at St. Katherine Docks? Wow - that is alot to ask, but... Sean
Thanks - those are some of my favourite areas to shoot in London, so I may just be able to meet your request. Just as soon as I can get one of these cameras to shoot with!
I'm thinking of getting an X100F brown for like 750$ brand new. Is it worth it or should I just save up for an X100V which is like 1450$? almost double the price of an X100F.
Thank you for this! I have the F and I LOOOVE it; it goes everywhere with me. But I have ordered the V for some of the upgrades and I’ve been debating if I really need it and if the changes are all things I’m ok with. After watching your video, I feel so much better about my choice to upgrade. (Now just hoping I can sell my F for a decent amount, although id love to be able to keep it lol)
I’m definitely going to be getting it I do own the Fujifilm X 100 T and believe it or not I shot quite a bit of landscapes with it and the images turned out remarkable. Shoot some landscapes if you get a chance once you get the X 100 V.
Great stuff to share.. So thanks for that... Concerning the camera... It is a great product no doubt about it... BUT... I have my own thoughts about it... First I think it is a bit overpriced... Secondly there are always the two drawbacks associated... 1 having a fixed lens makes me think twice before buying a "used" one, and 2. The focal length of the lens is not that universal in my opinion
How strong is the difference of the ovf and evf to the x100f? Not only the specs but also how does the rounded viewfinder feel? Is it easier to look throw? Or is it only me that thinks the viewfinder on the x100f and below is small...
Thanks Joe for the quick initial review. Don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon Not enough of an upgrade for me. I'd be interested in the performance of the newer lens tho. Any news on a different color other than black or silver? (I have the brown and get lots of comments on it.)
Ah, Fuji and their multiple shades of silver. I'm assuming the lens hood and Fuji silver 49mm UV filter will no longer match, right? At least they matched up the knobs...and a hot shoe cover. I'm impressed. The knobs on my X100F looked blue next to the body. It's water resistant as long as you spend another $50 for a special UV filter? I know margins are tight these days, but I had to laugh at that one.. Anyone really buying the explanation on that? I actually love Fuji stuff and just got a Pro3 so I'm kinda retro range-findered out at the moment, but the V looks really nice. I've had a T and F and loved them both. Maybe if it rains you can just point it down until you come up with the extra 50 bucks. I don't know, it's like buying a car and they tell you your face won't get wet if you spent a little more and get the windshield option..
Great job on the video. You experience with the camera shows in what you covered in the video. I had the X100F for a while. Really nice camera, but I had to sell it to fund stuff that helped me more in my video work. The combination of small and larger refinements do make the X100V really appealing. That top dial ring being a toggle, weather resistance, flip screen, battery door lock change (hopefully less likely to open by accident), ... very nice. I don't know if I'd care about the d-pad. Have to use it to see. I think it's probably fine without it. I'm glad they moved the Q button. The position of it on the X100F was irritating.
What to do when you get it: Shoot F.2 in the rain and show us the new sharpness with the new lens! Also I am very curious about the AF Range Limiter (From X-pro3). If it can be used similar to Richo GR III Snap focus.
Hey Joe, I got my X100v today and it's lovely, but its shutter sound is really shrill, almost like a Sony. It’s my first camera with a leaf shutter … have you ever had that on an X100 model, could it be cold weather?
Great video! I have and love the x100F, but at the price point of the V, I’d be more inclined to buy the Xpro3 and use prime lenses which I already own.
I thought they would finally bring out a graphite/dark grey version, because they did that with their recent releases... I like the 'little' changes like the new ISO-dial, although you can use the front dial to change ISO, but why not improve it for others that might need/use it? The lens, viewfinder and not having a flip screen are my main issues with the X100F. There were times I needed a flip screen to see the composition of the photo I was going to take. I wonder if you can use the ND-filters in video mode and if the lens is still hunting so much. It's nice that there is usable 4k video - just in case you want to take a few short clips.
Really glad to see the improvements on the x100v. but as an x100t user, I think x100t is good enough for me. I will try to make the full potential of the device on hand and then buy a Leica q or q2.
F is already super good for me, except a little hoping for a better IQ at f2, can’t wait to hand on this V, maybe not a buy but always good to see Fuji keep on with improving X100 series.
Great camera! However I still don't see any problem regarding sharpness of the X100F, even at F2. If you want sharpness at minimum focus distance, get the xf80mm or the xf16mm 😬
Yeah, I very rarely shot in scenarios where I would notice the soft focus. However, that being said, any improvement is just good progress in the long run.
Don’t get me wrong, it looks great but it makes me think the X-E4 will have the same flip screen, processor and sensor of course, weather sealing would be nice but I guess Fuji wouldn’t want to upset they’re range structure, still, for me it’s the X-E n?
Even the original X100 is still a great camera. I got some of my favourite all time mono shots with mine. The AF may not be as fast, but that makes you consider your shots more carefully. I predict the next model will be the X100VI.
Greetings. Great Review! *May I inquire of the Shutter Life Actuation Expectancy of the X100v? *Which color could potentially result in more finger smudges or eventual metal scratches (if camera is abused)? The Silver or black X100v version? Thank you.
Is the X100V made in japan like the previous variants? I noticed it dose not say "made in japan" on the back bottom right corner. Not a deciding factor I just find production moving around interesting
Great review! I can't decide which one I should order. :-) I love the black stealthy look but the Silver on the x100V looks so amazing! The other reason to go with silver is that I'm afraid you will see your fingerprints easily on the black finish. It looks much smoother in comparison to the previous models. What do you think?
it will be great if you could have some videos on how to better make use of this camera. As a amateur i am impressed by your photos in japan and hong kong, which i want to learn more on how to shoot, especially with the fujifilm!
Uh oh. Weather resistance, $1,800 CAD apparently, and an improved lens... Looks like they've altered the aperture dial to be easier to grip too.... And the X-Pro3's EVF. Good timing on the release window too, given that it comes out juuust before tax time too... I wonder how much the modified versions will be from KolariVision, because oh boy, this would definitely be a nice little handy camera to say the least. I always did want the X100F, but that EVF was an occasional issue for me due to pretty much always wearing polarized sunglasses while out and about - having the X-Pro3's EVF in there means that issue is gone, and it looks like it has a better eye relief too. I'm really curious as to how it is for left eyed shooting, and if the whole "use a portion of the touchscreen to focus" aspect allows you to use the bottom left side...
Okay. Why did they change the colour of the silver? I call it, “little ‘ol Lady hair do blue.” This is not silver, it’s zinc. Who makes stuff out of zinc? We got a matching hot shoe cover but now it doesn’t match the wide and tele lenses or lens hood. What’s up with that? What is up with Fuji’s inability to settle on a silver shade?
I was debating whether or not to get the xf 23mm f2 lens or wait for the x100v but now am looking forward to purchasing this camera is going to look good with my xpro3.
I'm more excited about the x100v than I was the xpro3. I have both the xpro1 and xpro2 along with the x100t. I was pretty disappointed with the xpro3. I'll definitely be picking up the x100v.
Nice coverage. I will probably wait and see what the deal with the xt4 is before deciding what to do. I do love the x100f though it is definitely a temping update. I mostly grab the xh1 if I’m picking up my Fuji gear so if the xt4 ends up being more of an xh2 that the rumours seem to indicate I might want that first. 😀
So excited to see what shots you get with this next version. 100F is a great camera, so we know the shots you'll get with the 100V are going to be fantastic 👊🏼
For what you could do with the camera when you get it. Could you challenge yourself to shoot an image from different genres? For example a landscape, street, portrait, product, etc.
I'd love to hear about the autofocus performance and usability. Is it practically as fast and responsive as scale focusing by feel using a focusing tab? Does the AF range limiter make it faster at changing from one framing (wide establishing shot to a full length shot) to another framing (half-length shot), especially at Golden Hour? How does its performance diminish as the sun sets/rises? How is it in dark events (EV3 and lower)?
glad i pre ordered the xpro 3 and the 23 f2 in Nov. to replace my x100f that had just taken such a beating over the years it was getting buggy and it really should have been weather sealed from day one. just couldn't wait on Fuji to update it. Well ebay here i come with a super clean practically no shutter count body and 23 both mint cause i will be getting the 100V! Sucks to take the hit but the 100F and soon the 100V is the closest thing i have found, that i can afford, that feels like my M6 and gives that love and calls to me - please take me for a walk!! thanks for the vid.
I love my F so much I didn't think I would upgrade. But damn you Fuji..weather sealing, tilt screen for low shots, 10cm close focus, 4 stop ND, and you fixed the pesky Q and ISO dial....done...ordered a black V. Good review. I heard an 18mm wide adapter lens might be on the horizon too?
fine video joe. for the next x100v-video i would like to see how the display is working inclusive the short wipes on all 4 side which replace the d-pad.
Hello Joe, well have to admit this is indeed a very nice camera, and well thought out for sure. I am looking forward to seeing your results, so enjoy this, when you get your own, still loving mine for now!! Great video as always and very informative, nice one mate.
Looks awesome, the finishes on the old ones always looked cheap to me, the nice clean lines look great! Been saying this for years, glad they’re finally going that direction.
I just got my x100v (silver) shipped yesterday , but I found the camera got warm after several test shots and setting menu. It's also showed up overheat alert (yellow) after shooting 5mins 4K video - it's hot! Anyone has the same experience?
Great video Joe. In your previous wish list video, I really liked your idea about changing up the faux leather/shiny material to matte and or graphite color. Unfortunately looks like they didn't go changing the aesthetics much. Nice little incremental refinements though!
Think it'll be very smart to wait a few months until people who did rush to buy it have shot with it long enough to determine whether or not those missing dpad buttons are really a big deal breaker. For me I think they would be.
I would like to see how this camera performs when shooting up close. Hey, it doesn't really matter as I plan on purchasing a silver body X100V. I currently use a Nikon D610 full frame and it is fine but I look forward to using a camera with limited lens configurations. I think it will force me into being a better photographer.
Hi Joe, Hope you are staying safe and doing well, Are we going to see your hands-on review or in-depth video or POV of x100v? Just asking as most of us would love to see one made by you. Thanks
i just wanted to know if the bluetooth and wireless capabilities of this camera improved ? I just want to point, shoot, tether, edit on my phone and post on instagram on the go...
I watched the XSummit, but it looked awkward overall. However great to see you there. A superb camera Fuji gave us. The silver/grey one is beautiful, the black one is gorgeous !

Just got a ~1000 shots used x100f for $700 a week ago. love it!
Me. Last week, “I’ll trade in my X100F for the V if they added a tilt screen and weather proofing, but I won’t hold my breath.”
WELP
Mr Tech I don’t get the obsession over ibis.
If you add a wide angle accessory, wouldn't that be a seal so no filter necessary?
I meant seal
Mr Tech I don’t get it as well. Why IBIS is so useful for this kind of camera ??
I use to have it on my Olympus, and a part for for some low shutter shots I do not miss it at all since 2014.
I do not argue the fact you want it, I just want to understand why? Thanks
Mr Tech ibis added would likely make it the size of xh1

The X100 is now the Leica M6 of the 21st Century. It's perfect.
Kind of .... I think the XPro-3 is a much better camera to compare to the Leica M6 for the 21st Century.
Perfect japanese alleyway camera.

I still use my X100S almost everyday and love it. The X100V is very tempting and I might finally upgrade.
I still have the x100s. The portrait colours are fantastic. Taken 1000s of photos Still works brilliantly Don’t think I will ever sell it
I was excited to finally feel like I can buy an x100f, but man.. that's lens and flip screen, WR... Might just save some more..
BTW, would love to see a video filmed entirely with the x100v internal but also external mic ofc!
Nice. My wife uses an older x70 and I'm always jealous. These older 'retro' style fixed lens cameras just look so gorgeous.

Absolutely! It’s so refined as a design!

My Body says yes... my wallet says no... I have the F already but...
This or a7c it will also be my first camera idk what to get
I’m still using my x100s!
The sharper lens, weather sealing and tilt screen are wonderful additions. It makes it very appealing.
I'm curious about the OVF difference - is it easier to see more? Also AF speed difference...
I've pre ordered the silver V, can't wait :)) As for your question: portraits, pets, night photography~!
This or a7c help lol it will be my first camera too
If the X100V have the d-pad I would buy it with no question.
It is very noticeable how much the flip screen and weather sealing means to this community of photographers. Great review/spec as always joe.
Sean
Oh, I live in Atlanta, so...
It was good to see you on that panel, Joe! As I was watching the stream I was telling myself "Hey, I know him!"
Haha, thanks for tuning in!
Thank you for this! I have the F and I LOOOVE it; it goes everywhere with me. But I have ordered the V for some of the upgrades and I’ve been debating if I really need it and if the changes are all things I’m ok with. After watching your video, I feel so much better about my choice to upgrade. (Now just hoping I can sell my F for a decent amount, although id love to be able to keep it lol)
hows the lowlight shoot? which high ISO is it still considered clean?
I’m definitely going to be getting it I do own the Fujifilm X 100 T and believe it or not I shot quite a bit of landscapes with it and the images turned out remarkable. Shoot some landscapes if you get a chance once you get the X 100 V.
Great stuff to share.. So thanks for that... Concerning the camera... It is a great product no doubt about it... BUT... I have my own thoughts about it... First I think it is a bit overpriced... Secondly there are always the two drawbacks associated... 1 having a fixed lens makes me think twice before buying a "used" one, and 2. The focal length of the lens is not that universal in my opinion
silver or black? which looks best in real life
Great video! I have the X100V as well. I love shooting with it! It the type of camera that makes you want to pick it up and be creative.
Cheers! No mention of any other colours. I'd still love to see an all-graphite one...
Why not XT30? isn't it more better as visibility and lens changeable?
Would you print a 20x30 with this camera?
This is the first x100 that I might buy! Very excited
so happy that you were invited to the event! go joe!!
I wish there was a graphite version too! This new aluminium silver is very close though. The matte finish is gorgeous!
Just seen you on X Live London 2020 and it was jaw dropping. Your comments were great 👍🏼👍🏼
Might get this one... which is why I am watching this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the camera.
Thank you.
Joe, will you do a X100V settings video? 😊
I would like to see you shooting Architecture . I know is not made for this, but with the tiltet screen you can give it a try!
Is the X100V made in japan like the previous variants? I noticed it dose not say "made in japan" on the back bottom right corner.
Not a deciding factor I just find production moving around interesting
I noticed that too, but unfortunately didn't get round to asking about it, as it's also not a deciding priority for me.
Hello Joe. Great content. Would you please share what lens hood are you using on your x100v? Thanx in advance.
Is it weather sealed? Also is it made in Japan just like X100F? Thanks
Excellent point about the benefits of video capabilities for still shooters, Joe.
What do you use for video?
Is the x100V weathersealed?
Yes, but only when used with an additional filter on the front of the lens.
Street photography in the rain and subway photography to see how it works in low light!
Sold! I am getting one. Dabbled with Sony rxr ii so MPB will be getting that plus my Fuji x100T should raise enough ££
fine video joe. for the next x100v-video i would like to see how the display is working inclusive the short wipes on all 4 side which replace the d-pad.
Hello Joe, well have to admit this is indeed a very nice camera, and well thought out for sure.
I am looking forward to seeing your results, so enjoy this, when you get your own, still loving mine for now!!
Great video as always and very informative, nice one mate.
How is the camera for close up, macro-esque photography?
When is the X100VI coming out?
Wonder if my square lens hood from X100F will fit the X100V. If the hood thread is the same. Hope so...
Should do! It's got the same filter size and most accessories should still fit e.g. teleconverter lenses etc.
Looks awesome, the finishes on the old ones always looked cheap to me, the nice clean lines look great! Been saying this for years, glad they’re finally going that direction.
Any chance if you know if the x100v would be compatible with the wcl-x100 mkI?
So the v did you say the 23 prime is fixed or can you change fuji primes on the V ?
Hi Joe,
Hope you are staying safe and doing well,
Are we going to see your hands-on review or in-depth video or POV of x100v?
Just asking as most of us would love to see one made by you.
Thanks
i just wanted to know if the bluetooth and wireless capabilities of this camera improved ?
I just want to point, shoot, tether, edit on my phone and post on instagram on the go...
That is the biggest concern for me regarding the lineup and Fuji in general... Great Video anyway !
I watched the XSummit, but it looked awkward overall. However great to see you there.
A superb camera Fuji gave us.
The silver/grey one is beautiful, the black one is gorgeous !
