Good video. I learned a lot. Thank you for your prompt and careful release of the fish! I hate seeing someone fool around with a fish for 5 minutes in the boat and then release it believing it is going to live just because it swam away when they put it back in the water. Too many fisherman, too few fish!
Just seeing this video for the first time after a year. Curious how you made out with the chamberlains. Ive been using them for about 5 years now and have to say they’re the best ive tried. But they aren’t perfect and they take some fiddling. Ive dragged salmon around for 10-15 minutes before. Its not really supposed too but your rod tension has an effect on your release tension. In that if you put allot of bend in your rod, it adds to the release tension due to the added drag on the arm. Its a fine line.
After seeing a couple of your videos, I plan on trying the lead core line for Trolling for Spring Salmon. This (using lead core) seems to give a little more flexibility for setting trolling depth. I’m hopeful you can provide a little more detail in this regard. Based on what I’ve researched so far, I’m leaning toward 12# LC, with mon backer and 30’ of FL leader. This should all work on the Okuma Magda Pro MA-30DX. However, it’s not clear to me what the best choice is for a trolling rod. I’m typically trolling live smelt or Mooselooks on light spinning gear. The fish we’re usually catching are in the 3# range (+/-). But, I suspect that a light/fast rod is not appropriate for LC. Again, any details and recommendations are appreciated. Thanks, and great videos!
@@mainetroutwhisperer Maine could keep a fella busy for years! We’re headed to West Grand in early May. Just grabbed a bunch of gear from your shop & Northeast Trollers.
So you’re filling your real with braided then about two colors of lead core on the back side of your plainer board? What’s the red line you are using lead-core as well. Hey great in-depth video I’m gonna snag some of those downrigger clips for summer trolling yehaw! Can’t wait
@@mainetroutwhisperer thanks for reply...trying Sebago this Saturday...trying some flys and some sewn on smelts..my buddy Jim was a guide for years when the Salmon was king there...then the Togue was introduced..and things changed..he will be with me this Saturday......cheers

I have struggled with releases when fishing for trout and salmon. I will give this a try. Great video! Thanks
Tom Roberts it may take a little bit to get it set exactly how you want it, but once you get it dialed in..you should be good

Well done as always! Really look forward to your videos thanks for taking the time!
Going to try that release out. I dragged a couple fish around this year when they couldn't pop the release I used.

B Nonya that’s right. And the rod with red line was just straight leadcore. Changes color every so often.
Maine Trout Whisperer got ya I’m on that website in your link now. You got any promo codes?
