I died about 50 times until I... got the broadsword and played co-op, much easier. This game is truly incredible, because it captures those feelings of exploration and discovery so perfectly!
Every time I see a screenshot I think about giving it a chance. Once I see it in motion I realize this isn't my type of game, but it looks and sounds great.
Yea I've been a die hard zelda fan for 26 years and I thought this game looks absolutely stupid. A cheap indie spinoff of my favorite game series. I said it would be the first zelda game i completely skip. But then i was told you can actually turn the rhythm off and it plays much more like a regular zelda game and/or a strategy type zelda game. Now, I actually think I'll give it a shot. The music sounds good. But the gameplay in my opinion looked dumb. But without the rhythm gameplay, I think I can get on board. Believe I'll give it a shot now.
No it's much more of a Zelda than a Crypt of the Necrodancer. Most of the time you are on the world map which is reminiscent of the NES Zelda map or in a Zeldaesque Dungeon. They are randomly generated for replayability, but the whole experience feels much more like a Zelda than a rogue-like.
It feels wayyy more Zelda-ish than I thought it would, even though the dungeons are randomized. There's a lot of little Zelda-ish puzzles in caves and in the overworld, and the overworld feels a lot like Zelda 1. It goes a lot further than just being a "theme".
I played this game so much this weekend that I had to get a brace for my left hand. Don't recommend that part, but it goes to show you how addictive and amazing this game is. Love it! I keep wanting to play more but having to hold back!
I remember seeing this game in a direct or something before it released and thought 'huh, that looks cool, I might give it a go' then I really forgot about it. About a year ago I saw the demo on the eshop, played it and was immediately hooked. Its now one of my favourite games of all time
I’m addicted too this game! I loved so much playing it and be in this world, that I often skipped using the harp for fast travel as I really like moving through the map, battling enemies and listening to the soundtrack. It’s a very good game and the start of a very expensive upcoming 3-4 months for my Switch. So much excellent games coming!
I think the addition of rumble would also be great for deaf players or hard-of-hearing players. Fixed Beat mode does provide an option for them, but the rumble would allow for an easier entry into the rhythm game style. But even as someone who can hear reasonably well, rumble would be awesome. But yeah, looks good, I'd love to pick it up if I had the money. XP
Does it has subtitles? i watched animated secuences from other youtubers but none of them have it. played the older game, i find it ok, the shown rhythm beat below does help me a lot, i am Deaf by the way.
The guy that Alex is referring to that is at the top of the leaderboard is basically a god at crypt of the necrodancer. For anyone wanting to check him out he goes by spootybiscuit on RUclips and Twitch.
This game...my god, do i love this game so much. (it aalso got me to actually get Crypt of the Necrodancer. Happy i did as well XD) The best part is honestly the co-op though. Playing as Link and Zelda or Cadence and Zelda or Link and Cadence or....any of the above and the little deku scrub. So fun
Reminds me of the old Win95 CD-Rom game "Yoda Stories". The Overworld is randomly genorated each time you start a new save file in that game as well. But Yoda Stories was action based, while this is turn based. I kickstarted the original game, and was really impressed with the Switch version additions. I will pick this up on payday Friday.
Is it possible to play as Cadence in the game, outside of the tutorial? If not, that's just kinda weird, like why would they even bother putting her in the game.
Yes. You will find Cadence in caves throughout the game, and she gives you an item each time. The final time you met her, she will join your team. There also exists "single-character mode" as a custom game rule, which allows you to play as her without anyone else throughout the whole game.
Didn't think much of this game when I saw it advertised months ago. However, I got it the day it came out and holy shiz is this game amazing! The music is awesome. Just turning it on and hearing the OoT theme remixed is all the feels.
I'm glad I watched this, wasn't sold until I learned you can turn rhythm off. I'm pretty terrible at rhythm games and while I can get the hang of it after a while (a long while mind you) I'm often turned off of the game early through playing. But being able to turn off the rhythm aspect (which surprises me since it's such a major part of the game) will let me enjoy it and if I ever want to try the rhythm part I'll be able to. :)
I used the stick and not the buttons because left on my D-pad is wonky. It always thinks I'm pressing up unless I press the very edge of it. I had no problems using the stick though
As someone who beat zone 4 of crypt of the necrodancer after dying over and over (AND OVER) i didn't excactly have a hard time with the game. Two deaths at the beginning, and that was it. So if you're like me, you probably shouldn't expect to die a lot.
I know this review is from four years ago but I recently just got cadence of high rules and I’m looking forward to it. I had no idea that it was a rhythm game and rogue like in one.
Man i LOVE this game so much. Even after all these years i´m still playing and having a blast! It holds up so much and is basically a new 2D Zelda with a Roguelike/ Necrodancer Twist but SO perfectly balanced.
Fantastic game, i just wished there was more of it there. I had so much fun playing but it was over way too fast. Since it's not nearly as challenging as Crypt was with less random elements there's not much incentive to come back after the first playthrough other than some leaderboard stuff. Still, i had a great time and i'll revisit it every now and then for the stellar soundtrack alone.

I’m playing he first one right now because it was on sale. Addictive and maddening as well. I finally made it to the first boss but didn’t get past that. Can’t wait for cadence of hyrule
Yess I love this game. Just did a review. I think it really is like its own Zelda game. Combat-focused and fast-paced man it's fun! And I don't find games fun very often. I was happy to see all the Zelda items and enemies. Like this is more than just a skin.. And that final boss was satisfyingly hard asf.
the game is absolutley amazing with, you know, graphics, gameplay etc. but i don't like how it's very short. (just a tiny nitpick) also fixed beat mode is for babies
Can you acknowledge that the d pad for the pro controller makes things almost unplayable? The way it can't distinguish when you're switching from left to right and thinks that you're also pressing up... Random unwanted hard drops in tetris
ok optional normal zelda style good challenge and leader boards for the 2 mode's does this count co-op because i assume that would be the only way to get that speed run time
@Scitch2781 for me at least it's worth it. It's similar to an older Zelda game in map size, the gameplay is fun, and I plan to replay it many times with new maps. That said, if you don't enjoy the core gameplay or only plan on playing it once, than yeah, probably not for you.
Skaro Honestly If a game is too hard I’m not interested in getting it. My health can’t exactly take too much stress or otherwise I get sick. So there are people out there who have legitimate reasons for wanting to play a rogue like but one with reduced difficulty.
Actually, instead of relying on the "heart" or the music, I usually watched the disco stuff. They help as well. xp I don't have this game, but I played Necrodancer, couldn't stay into it mainly because I end up losing interest in most rogue games. I heard this game is less rogue and more...um, not-rogue? xD
Yeah you keep some key items and your main currency of “diamonds” stays too, also your fast travel points stay too after death. So you do carry over a lot in death, so it doesn’t feel that much like permadeath
It's rogue-lite, you only loose torches, boots, rings and shovels (and rupees and keys) if you die, you keep the charms weapons, items and bombs (and diamonds)
Luckily they thought of that. Basically everything can be customized about the UI- can turn off the graphical beat bar, the triforce pulse, and the "disco floor" if you want in the settings
when i blind bought this i was a bit sceptical about it... i sat down and played it, died way more times than i ever did in bloodborne... suddenly after a couple of hours i was clearing maps without skipping beats. the game becomes natural after a few minuts/hours so dont be discouraged if you start to die a lot. this game's visuals and audio is beyond what i expected + it has a lot of replay value. deff a pick
honestly my only complaint is the mentality of the game is way different. Crypt of the Necrodancer was very short, but massively unforgiving and difficult roguelike kept it quick and fresh. Cadence of Hyrule is surprisingly large for this type of game. And as a result, its nowhere near as difficult and i found the only times i died was when i got complacent or came across a rather unique and deadly mechanic i didnt immediately see the pattern for. Double Speed would make it more challenging but...uh... i swear the switch doesnt recognize rapid inputs like that because i cannot get it to keep the beat more than 3 seconds before i somehow "missed" even though my character still moved.
Amazing game! Oddly enough this game felt more like Zelda to me the Botw did. (Tho I do love Botw) Maybe it’s because I’m old school. My first Zelda game was the original on the NES.
I bought this as soon as it came out. I played it for about 2 hours and stopped. This is definitely one of those games where you can pick it up and play for a bit and then put it down. The music is really good, but it just feels super sluggish even with double time. Definitely a 6/10 for the price.

I want this for nistalgia for her as a collectors item. And hopefully the art will not have any weird non sense like, what? Necro what?
@@voxkine9385 It doesn't break the game or anything; basically enemies move when you do, rather than on each beat. However, the game is definitely balanced to work at the pace of the soundtrack, so the sense of pacing and urgency is definitely lost.

for those who have played the game: how long is it? I generally like games that are long so I can have fun with it for as long as possible...(just the main story, not the side quests, if there are)
@Jaime De la Rosa Yeah I guess that's what it would be. Although Australia has always had to pay more for things than the US, for example. Like to be honest, most Switch games alone are around $70-80 over here when they're about $50-60 USD. And don't even get me started on the housing market down here. Good Lord. 😂😂
All the videos I’ve seen with all the square jumping mechanics make me feel ill looking at it.. it’s put me off.. I’m sure it’s fine when playing, but videos of it give me a headache
Cloudy Water I don’t know how much the cinema costs near you, but imagine a movie ticket that costs maybe £10 and you only get 1.5 hours or so of entertainment. It has better value than that. Just a thought
5-8 hours first playtrough. It will not stick with one. You will probably have 3 save files each for one character. That makes it up to 15-24 hours. Than the customisation, coop etc... 25 bucks is a very fair price. I would have even let arguements for 30 pass. If that is too much wait for the next sale. You could get it probably for 10 bucks then.
E23K1LL That is true But I normally only go to the cinema for big movies like avengers endgame or something I watch movies for the experience I play games to spend hours into them Unless a game is REALLY good if it’s short I probably won’t buy it I normally say that €1 = 1 hour so cadence of hyrule would have to last me about 25 hours Why am I still talking sorry
Fair enough, each to there own. In a sense I agree with you anyway because I probably won’t pick it up until it’s on sale. But I’m a bit of a tight arse :)

how long is it? I generally like games that are long so I can have fun with it for as long as possible...(just the main story, not the side quests, if there are)
i dont know wheather to call this a spin off or not.
I'll probably wait for this to go on sale. I don't really wanna spend $37.50 AU if it turns out I don't really like it that much. Haha
@Jaime De la Rosa Yeah I guess that's what it would be. Although Australia has always had to pay more for things than the US, for example. Like to be honest, most Switch games alone are around $70-80 over here when they're about $50-60 USD. And don't even get me started on the housing market down here. Good Lord. 😂😂
ZacTheMusician Don't know if you already know this by now, but there is a demo of the game you can check out.
I just got an ad for cadence of hyrule while watching this video XD
I cant decide to get this game or the breath of the wild DLC...
what did you get??
Gonna be hard to play this at work...
Do you lose your wapen when you die?
Weapons no, equipment yes (rings, torch, etc)
@@luciferfaust Thank, because you only can get the spear when you die :/
I loved it but it's short
I prefer playing with the triforce indicator off.
All the videos I’ve seen with all the square jumping mechanics make me feel ill looking at it.. it’s put me off.. I’m sure it’s fine when playing, but videos of it give me a headache
About the rhythm thing at the bottom: this will make it so much fun for Deaf players :D.
Yeah but you can't really look at it when you are playing, it's only really used for tingle's puzzle and to check your multiplier
When an Indie uses your IP better than you.
how much is it
24.99 dollars
@@drfireball2695 cool ty
Rumble would be fantastic for the hard of hearing too!
1:24
Zelda on the Nez
4:31 "We suppose you could use it if you are unable to hear the music or at least wait until you can" out of context just sounds rude
I'm missing out on the music, because my ears started bleeding when you said "Legend of Zelder on the Nezz".
Alex intro is both creepy and endearing.
I thought for a second they resurrected TotalBiscuit
Is this a reskin of crypt. Or a totally new game?
Morgan James new game
4:28 Prepare for angry deaf people
I feel they robbed me of Princess Zelda by making a link always the only main playable character
Heard it’s only a few hours long
Not worth it at all
€25 for only 5-8 hours??
Cloudy Water I don’t know how much the cinema costs near you, but imagine a movie ticket that costs maybe £10 and you only get 1.5 hours or so of entertainment. It has better value than that. Just a thought
5-8 hours first playtrough. It will not stick with one. You will probably have 3 save files each for one character. That makes it up to 15-24 hours. Than the customisation, coop etc... 25 bucks is a very fair price. I would have even let arguements for 30 pass. If that is too much wait for the next sale. You could get it probably for 10 bucks then.
E23K1LL
That is true
But I normally only go to the cinema for big movies like avengers endgame or something
I watch movies for the experience
I play games to spend hours into them
Unless a game is REALLY good if it’s short I probably won’t buy it
I normally say that €1 = 1 hour so cadence of hyrule would have to last me about 25 hours
Why am I still talking sorry
Fair enough, each to there own. In a sense I agree with you anyway because I probably won’t pick it up until it’s on sale. But I’m a bit of a tight arse :)
So far I have 8 hours plus 3 plus 2 plus 1 and a half for my various runs
the should do Cadence of Doom because why the hell not
I want this game soundtrack
I want this game..
I NEED IT
Holy SHIT this looks so good
