I'm sure the only thing relevant to "just heavy attacks" and staggering is how they've changed 300 con to work (i.e. it'll only give you grit for heavy attacks). This also makes the agro changes make some more sense. Swinging light attacks as a tank will now come at a pretty big cost of significant risk to getting staggered by mobs. So giving them more taunt power, particularly when blocking, is a sensible move (this will, in itself, directly counter the increased risk when fighting big mob clumps - more hits = more taunts when blocking). Oh and yeh... this is another change (to 300 con) they've neglected to mention in their notes (along with a bunch of others, like no ammo/repairs and many, many more). Why they're so bad at this, I'll never know.
To take the only skill based PvP combat MMO in the last almost 2 decades and just decide to add a small aimbot on it its the dumbest decision ever made by AGS (and thats saying something)... This is going to straight up ruin PvP for everyone who isnt a brainlet abusing melee and hitscan weapons. People saying Console players REQUIRE this to keep up with Keyboard and Mouse clearly arent sufficiently skilled with both inputs on various game types to have a say in the situation. Them saying they changed the rotation rate of characters when you're locked onto them to try and mitigate the "Stickiness" of the tab-target/aim-lock is literally the biggest load of BS i've seen about it too considering people will literally just toggle it off as soon as someone evades, Then lock it back on when evasions finish to insta snap back onto them to mitigate sensitivity reductions put on them. Reading the patch notes, It seems they've just blanket nerfed the Rapier bleed builds PURELY because of aim-lock too, Much like the blunderbuss PvP nerf, Since with the Tondo and Flourish+Finish builds, you LITERALLY cannot miss your kit in PvP, tondo is a big sweep so they're wasting stamina to dodge a tiny cooldown like that, Then flourish+Finish, If the knockback hits, The dash detonation is essentially GUARANTEED to hit as the game literally aims it at the dude for you... It's a shambles. IMO, Just make servers with and without aim-lock, Make queues with and without aim-lock and make it so the ONLY aim-lock you get in open world PvP is on allies with life staff unless you're on one of the aim-lock enabled servers.
I can almost guarantee you the only people saying “console needs it to keep up” naturally aren’t good at aim/tracking. But they def could increase the sensitivity for controllers to make the turning faster.

The funny thing I play New world on controller and I don’t find the aiming hard without aim assist or target lock 🤷🏻♂️ Like I don’t know I play Musket but still hit crazy shots. These are very welcoming changes to target lock. Taking into account the limited time they had to process the beta feedback, I would say they did great.
I've decided to hop back in with a friend who also just generally enjoyed the "feel" of the game back when we last played over a year ago. Neither of us have the expansion and agreed to only buy it if we feel like the game has improved enough to deserve it. The patch has some good stuff, so I'm eager to see how it plays out. Still concerned that we'll lose interest as soon as we hit endgame but we'll see. Mainly just cracking up that the chat bug that we've experienced literally since launch is apparently still in-game. Can't wait for that. >_

I have to say, this is well met. They're listening. With this news I have to say I am going into NW Aeternum regret free. My son is playing with me this launch. His first time playing a game like this. We had a blast in the beta. It's hard to beat a New World launch. The first one was legendary even with the bugs. I went PVP almost all the way to max level with Spear/Bow. Then quit and came back went S&S/GS and I ended as a Fs/IG mage. Good times.
It actually blows my mind how many people that cry about target lock. It wasn’t that broke at all. It will help keep casual players playing which is what the game needs. Like another person in here said, it actually is less effective then just being good at the game since you can’t really headshot, the longer range the target is, the less likely you’re hitting the target, and dodging with it active low key sucks. Like no sweaty pvp player is gonna lose to a casual player that uses target lock and if you do you’re definitely not as good as you think.
As a pvp sweat , I completely agree. Target lock will have more new players feel comfortable playing and in no ways diminishes my kitting, timing, and general knowledge over new players
I only played the beta so far, but I didn't feel like Target Lock was OP. We will see how target lock affects us console players. If PC players are to OP, I probably won't be playing New World for too long
Yall thinking everyone is going to use it. Its not beneficial to have it on IMO, no head stots, stuttered movement, dodging is super limited as the direction is locked, and range distance to lock on is really short. You can't lock on from one side of the fort to the other. I doubt it will even be used much.
I was a bit wrong the range is outrageous, it is easily across a fort however it is WAY easier to dodge just by walking when you're at max range. Upclose it never misses/.
they should just make target lock an option in the game settings you could turn on and off. If you use it you lose 20% damage to your abilities. This is how Street Fighter 6 handles their "auto combo" control scheme and in some use cases its very strong but at the highest level no body complains about it because 20% is a significant reason to try to learn the "classic control scheme"

Generally you can use the ingame voice chat when within a party. However, normally when you drop out of the party, it will let you talk to anyone, which may not be what you want depending on how old your kids are! I think there may be a setting to disable that but not sure from the top of my head. So discord may be the easier route.
It's not even far off...one of the best pvp players uses a controller. So, essentially it's a skill issue. And...not everyone on PC uses a keyboard to play. Shocking, I know.

When it comes to pvp, I’m more the shooter type!
Duke love the videos I have been with since the launch of new world. I was a day 1 beta player but stopped playing last year. This Dev team is a joke. They are destroying the game single handily. They don’t listen to the players and do what they want and are wrong every time. Yes tomorrow the numbers will go up. But they will quickly fall PC players might come back my guess is 25% come back. They have been told over and over to make mounts part of the game and not to lock them behind the expansion but they won’t. The target lock thing isn't enough. Breaking line of sight?? younvan literally press the button again. Blunderbuss nerf?? Even temporary??!! That's not the answer. The answer is to remove it. If these changes are only a quick fix before release, then fine. What we need is a reliable aim assist and more sensitivity options for controller so they can keep up. That's all we need

Target Lock for ranged weapons in this implementation was such a mistake. Auto-Aim blunderbuss in a souls-lite action combat now way too strong? Shocker. Anyone who has hundreds of hours in action combat RP type games coulda seen thing coming miles away. Its just so disappointing that AWS keeps making high-level game design problems like this year after year after year. Just force all the devs to play the souls games to completion, including invasions and pvp. Force them to understand what good combat feedback feels like. Ah well. No loss no gain. Just waiting for a good MMO Action Combat game.
But souls games have auto aim :p the problem isn't auto aim, it's the fact that the game auto tracks your attacks even before this. Your character slides forward to not allow you to miss your attacks. All because braindead PvE MMO players couldn't grasp hitboxes. This together with the lack of stagger on basic attacks, means you can turn your brain off and just DPS race your opponent. The issue is NW combat was already braindead. Facing your opponent by moving your mouse is barely "skill", if the difference between auto aim and no auto aim turned NW combat into a skilless dps race... You see where I'm going right? Current combat is already skilless.
Sucks that it was important to fix bugs for console players even though these bugs have been around for PC players FOR YEARS. They're gonna slowly push the PC players out. YOU ARE NO LONGER THE TARGET AUDIENCE. Get ready for the game to be dumbed down every patch.

I was on the fence about buying this on console. Targeting with a mouse/keyboard is very easy. The console definitely needs some help. I’m going to wait and see how this plays out. Back to Counterstrike for me 😂
Dark Souls and elden ring have auto aim and they're still highly skill based... but that's because it doesn't also have auto tracking, you actually can outspace and play footsies with the opponent, bait a swing miss and then punish etc... Also, it has stagger on basic attacks, so if you have better timing than your opponent, you can win without trading damage. It plays like a fighting game. NW used to be like this during the alpha and first beta, but they massively dumbed down the combat since. Literally every change they did to combat since the alpha has dumbed things down. The issue isn't auto aim, it's everything else.

Nerfed not removed. Saw that coming from another universe away. These devs have been making the game worse and worse since ALPHA. SBMM also confirms that they r abandoning pc community entirely to focus on casual braindead console players. This game had so much potential it is pretty sad to see the devs sink their own ship. I’m sure higher ups sucked and didn’t help but the devs really were never good either. They will def do an announcement soon thanking players for their time played but will then blame us(players) for a failed launch and say any plans for future content has stopped and the devs will move to the LOTR team or quit. The servers may get shut down too and it might become like a single player/coop game only. RIP NW. Honestly one the best games I ever played! I will never forgot those memories and cherish them. i don't use target lock at all i mean for the life staff its sorta important but i switch ranged to melee this time around.
More damage will likely not replace the artifact gloves from tempest for VG/IG in war
the magnet gauntlets, yeah i was always interest in them but never leveled them. Should be great for weapons with keenly in it, though

What means: "Updated damage scaling to lower damage increase when using only one weapon."

Auto-Aim blunderbuss in a souls-lite action combat now way too strong?
Shocker. Anyone who has hundreds of hours in action combat RP type games coulda seen thing coming miles away. Its just so disappointing that AWS keeps making high-level game design problems like this year after year after year. Just force all the devs to play the souls games to completion, including invasions and pvp. Force them to understand what good combat feedback feels like.

But souls games have auto aim :p the problem isn't auto aim, it's the fact that the game auto tracks your attacks even before this. Your character slides forward to not allow you to miss your attacks. All because braindead PvE MMO players couldn't grasp hitboxes.
This together with the lack of stagger on basic attacks, means you can turn your brain off and just DPS race your opponent.
The issue is NW combat was already braindead. Facing your opponent by moving your mouse is barely "skill", if the difference between auto aim and no auto aim turned NW combat into a skilless dps race... You see where I'm going right? Current combat is already skilless.

I was on the fence about buying this on console. Targeting with a mouse/keyboard is very easy. The console definitely needs some help. I’m going to wait and see how this plays out. Back to Counterstrike for me 😂
Dark Souls and elden ring have auto aim and they're still highly skill based... but that's because it doesn't also have auto tracking, you actually can outspace and play footsies with the opponent, bait a swing miss and then punish etc... Also, it has stagger on basic attacks, so if you have better timing than your opponent, you can win without trading damage. It plays like a fighting game.
NW used to be like this during the alpha and first beta, but they massively dumbed down the combat since. Literally every change they did to combat since the alpha has dumbed things down.
The issue isn't auto aim, it's everything else.

Nerfed not removed. Saw that coming from another universe away. These devs have been making the game worse and worse since ALPHA. SBMM also confirms that they r abandoning pc community entirely to focus on casual braindead console players. This game had so much potential it is pretty sad to see the devs sink their own ship. I’m sure higher ups sucked and didn’t help but the devs really were never good either. They will def do an announcement soon thanking players for their time played but will then blame us(players) for a failed launch and say any plans for future content has stopped and the devs will move to the LOTR team or quit. The servers may get shut down too and it might become like a single player/coop game only. RIP NW. Honestly one the best games I ever played! I will never forgot those memories and cherish them. Truely sad the devs just had to listen to their own community but refused to.
