Thanks Chad. Just brushing up my 67-72 knowledge as it has been a few decades since I had a dash of a C10 apart. ! ! I got the nephews hooked on these trucks and now they help me. Life is good ! !
Thanks mate! My 68 C20 came with a new instrument cluster when I bought it from my mate Arty down at Vista Calif. I shipped the truck home to Melbourne Australia. Your videos are very helpful as I don't have a manual or local parts store that sell parts for these neat old trucks. Keep the tips coming Chad, they are very helpful.
Thank you for great accurate content. I'm just starting to restore a 72 a/c cab C10 and before starting decided to see if anything had been posted that would help me along the way and I found your videos first. So grateful for the time you took to show and explain these processes.
Thanks for the vid. My temperature gauge hasn't worked on my Suburban since I bought it. This video is full of great tips ! I will watch more of your vids on 67-72 chevy trucks. Subscribed.
Helpful video. The info about the button to let the light switch rod loose was the helper for me. Wasn't able to get loose the oil pressure line but was able to get enough room to remove the bulb sockets to adjust the contacts and lights are working again.
Very informative, I like how you take your time and share your knowledge with new C 10 owners, I’d love to see a tack added to the Center of the cluster and what’s involved to do that
I appreciate the support! I can make that video one day if I can find one cheap enough. I usually put in an external tach. Seem more reliable, but don’t look as good.
On removing the cluster, you forgot the 2 screws with the #3 Phillips heads that holds the closure strip under the steering column. Actually it was excellent! I am driving a 69 C10 daily to work. I am the second owner. It just turned over to 311,000 miles today coming home from the farm. Hello from north east Montana. 10 miles from the Canadian border.
Dang it Darrel! I totally missed it. It wasn’t on that 69 and didn’t remember to put one back on for the vid. 311,000. That’s awesome! I love hearing the history that comes with these old trucks! Stay warm up there and thanks for watching!!
Thank you for these informative videos! The absolute only thing that works in my 67 C60 is the oil psi. No lights, wipers, other gages etc. Looks like this is an easy way to get to the wiper motor perhaps. I'll have to re watch that video. Thanks Chad
You bet! This would be the route I would take for the wiper motor as well. Saves you some bloody knuckles. I wonder if the printed circuit board has damage somewhere on the back of the cluster if that much stuff isn’t working.
@@C10TruckNerd yes, I saw they sell new circuit boards on ebay for this, any experience with these? I have a water leak in the rain gutter down through the windshield and drips out underneath, I imagine this may have created a problem. Is the wiper motor separate from the circuit board? I haven't poked around yet, the weather is not favorable up here right now.😊
@@ratrivervintage6306 I haven't tried a knock off circuit board yet. I usually buy from LMC or Classic parts since they are the closest to me. The wiper motor is independent of the board. The switch is usually the failure point if the wipers don't work. The motors are pretty tough. 67 has a year specific wiper switch. Those drip edges commonly leak when the old seam sealer fails. The interior roof line of my GMC has rusted through due to this.
Hey thank you for sharing all the information with us. I've had this cluster out before years ago so I thought it would be a breeze...wrong, I must have read a manual. Oh, so there's a button you push to remove the light switch knob...😒 Anyway I'm subscribed and thanks again.
I appreciate the support! I’m always glad to help the next guy out. I know a bunch of knobs and switches have been broken over the years. Even a couple by me! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, Chad. Just getting ready to replace the instrument cluster in my 72 C10 and your video was spot on. I noticed a gas door on the side of the cargo box in one segment of the video. Been wanting to move my gas tank from inside the cab to somewhere under the cargo box, but prefer not to use the kits that will place it in the back in place of the spare tire holder. Are you aware of a kit for saddle tanks on the C10?
I appreciate it! I don’t know if any companies are making aftermarket saddle tanks for these anymore. You might be able to track down a set or even one from an old custom camper or one added on. If you watch the episode of “demo day” with my green GMC, I remove a set. I hope that made sense!
Hey Chad my name is Chad lol I got a 68 bad ass clean Cali truck sorry for that lol my 68 wiper is on the left just like u said there is a hole on right for wiper and there is a gm emblem that's bolted from the back with a 5/8 nut . That's 1 more thingy 😮 love the videos brotha 👌
Thanks for the support! I don’t have a video out yet for that. I need to make one, because I’ve got to get mine rebuilt on the 71 too. Got all the parts, just not the time yet.
Like all your videos.. have a 1972 GMC C2500 pickup that I'm giving some TLC. Noticed you have a newer bench seat in one of your videos. I need to replace/update mine. Any videos for that task?
@@C10TruckNerd thank you so much for responding. I took the glove box liner out and was confronted by all the air conditioning ducts. And I was like God, I don't want to take all that apart.
If it’s the original red style, you have to pull the wheel and replace the turn signal switch. I don’t believe anyone just makes a red replacement knob.
My 72 Cheyenne dash was so easy to do compared to my 65 Corvette that did not have the PC on the dash and had so many connections and condensers that hat had to be grounded if you had a radio option.
So, I'm breaking back into my dash because I'm having to redo a bunch of the wiring harness stuff and that fiber optic line that illuminates the gearshift, frayed on me. Is that something that is necessary? If I don't care about it being lit up, can I just cut it off the back and put the light bulb back in and it would still work or because it is fiber optic, is it not carrying any actual current and I could just tape it up and put it back?
Chad, I have no power at my heater fan switch, heater fan quit working, took motor out, bench test ok, took fan switch out looked ok, took reostat out it looked ok, found wire that goes to switch over somewhere across dash it has no power. can i take a wire from another power source and feed to this line. the heater was working fine till one cold morning it was working and just quit
Hello! I have a 1970 C10 and I want to replace my cluster plus add a 5,000k tach. But I was told that I can't add a tach because I have an HEI distributor. Why can't I add a tach?
Some companies will warranty or guarantee their repop tach and others won’t. I’ve heard of several going up in smoke and others have been ok. Several have mentioned using a tach filter. I’m not sure where you pick one of them up at. I have always used an aftermarket tach on the column or in the tach slot in the cluster.
I’ve got a 1976 Chevy Itasca RV on a Chevy p20 chasis. After I got a new alternator put it my gages spin crazily, they ALL spin besides the battery gage one I’ve noticed. I’ve gotten it looked at by 2 mechanics and the wiring is fine according to them, they say it’s the cluster panel itself but I struggle to understand that as they were working perfectly fine before the new alternator. Also there’s a green wire, it was connected to something then I discovered it burned off at the end. At this point I’m wanting to just figure out what’s wrong myself, any advice at all?
Sorry for the delay! Maybe disconnect the plug or power wire from the alternator and see if it stops. Maybe the voltage regulator is bad or the new alternator has a built in regulator on top of the one under the hood.
Chad well i got all of mine all rounded up (4 67s 1 68 0 69 2 70s 3 71 3 70s 2 72s.) I I have 71 long horn frame if you know of anyone who wants it. I really would like a full house so im hunting a 69.

To install a radio do I take out the instrument panel or go through the glove compartment? I have a 1970 with air conditioning.
Either will work. I think it is easier to pull the instrument cluster. I seem to always destroy the glovebox liner when I try to remove them.

Sorry for the delay! I’ve robbed power several times, as long as it’s switched and fused. I just don’t rob anything from the ignition.
Chad I’m having problems with the oil pressure getting back into where it’s supposed to go, what should I do
Like routing it or screwing into the block or cluster?
what size bulb to use in the fiber optic socket, mine is real dim
I use 194s in everything. They also used 1895s in oil pressure and so forth. Here is a link.
