Theory: the “entity” is a developer. He’s given them fake leaks- stuff with real features added, but also some sort of backdoor that causes their singleplayer worlds to be hosted as servers- servers where he can fuck with them.
the auto subtitles in the first one is just youtube being weird about the voice recognition thing you see it often in other youtube videos with quiet noise or music in the background, random words like "foreign" or "you" will often pop up in the auto subtitles
i remember playing alpha back when i was 11 ish. i was always TERRIFIED and had a feeling like i was being watched constantly. finding one thing out of place was enough for me to close the game and take a long break. when i got older i wondered what changed, if i just grew out of the fear. but looking back at old recordings, nah, alpha was just scary af. you had a feeling like you didn't belong there, like exploring an abandoned or incomplete building. like the world wasn't meant to be seen yet, or something. hard to pinpoint exactly what gave alpha that vibe.
Even Minecraft: PS3 Edition is unnerving in its own ways. Every time I boot up my Playstation and put in the disc, I feel in an uncanny state when I haven’t updated since 2013 version, It’s creepy. I feel what you felt when I TO THIS DAY get scared.
It's not just in alpha that I get that feeling. It always seems like there's something else that isn't supposed to be there in singleplayer. Surely microsoft/mojang devs would not add something like that today or in the past right?
It's going underground where there is no light, you just know something bad is down there, usually zombies, creepers, spiders but old Minecraft didn't have ender dragons and a end game goal, new beasts were added without notice. First time seeing these things is a bit jarring when nobody expected them to show. It's how at nighttime the game was pitch black, yet you'd hear zombie moans ahead without seeing them. The 90s style also gives off Silent Hill vibes when combined with the old fog. The lower poly textures also gives the game a more abstract uncertainty to everything, where you question the identity of strange creatures moving too far away for you to make out what they are; you didn't dare go closer in case it was a creeper.
To me It's kind of like playing on an old Garry's Mod map. The atmosphere is very unsettling at times. Especially on the Gmod maps that have city ambience in the background. For example, the ambience on some maps make it sound like a bustling city street but there is nobody to be seen, no signs of life whatsoever.
The creepiest thing about old minecraft was the fog and the emptiness that came along with it. Followed by creepy sounds in the caves with bedrock fog ( you know when you were on bedrock level there would be particles and stuff.) Was really creepy to me.
that and when night falls, everything got REALLY dark, there was no natural light coming from the moon and stars unlike now and torches barely did anything to illuminate your surroundings i remember playing survival MCPE lite back in like 2012, and right as i spawned in i constructed a 4x4 dirt house with a singular door placed on one corner and just stayed inside of it because the fog just seriously creeped me out and there was just this unshakable thought at the back of my head that herobrine might be lurking around (keep in mind this was peak herobrine paranoia era minecraft and most of the fanbase wasn’t knowledgable about the inner workings of the game) so i waited, and waited, until night came. I knew it was gonna be dark but FUCK my 9-year-old-ass was not prepared for Amnesia TDD levels of darkness so i was scared shitless in my dirt hut, when i heard GRRRR from behind my dirt walls, you know the kind of fear where you just freeze and get silent? yeah, that 10x over i was just paralyzed, but the game was relentless enough to actually make the zombie navigate to my front door that i was nervously looking at for the past 15 minutes or so, by that point i just closed the game and never touched survival mode again
Same, Good Horror is not about Jump scares and scary Monsters Good Horror is something that gives you a feeling of dread, eeriness and something that stays with you forever
Around 2-3 years ago I got a Switch for my Birthday and me and my dad would always go and play minecraft on it. But sometimes when I was asleep he said he’d go down and play it. He was pretty new to minecraft so he didn’t know much, but one time He went downstairs to play. Since he was new he didn’t know mobs or anything (we were always on peaceful anyway) He said he saw my character running through our mines but with weird eyes.
Its not the same world, in the herobrine world the location is in a forest and there shouldn't be sand, just grass and trees and the mountain with "him"
@Liberater42 yah that’s crazy, it seems like if he were to look just a bit more to the left and be up a block or two it would match the Herobrine picture.

I need to get this story out. this was way back before the ocean update, and it was on Minecraft Xbox one edition. me and my brother started up a brand new splistcreen survival world. We called it a1, and later made worlds a2 and b1 but those aren’t important. Right off of spawn there were three crosses made of dirt. Really eerie. They were in perfect formation. Later when we were exploring, we found crosses everywhere. As holes in the ground. Shaped in the skies. But the weirdest part was about a day into the world, we got our hands on a map. We were already kinda freaked out by the crosses. And we opened the map. But instead of having two markers to signify me and my brother, there were three. it couldn’t have been a glitch, because it was moving. After a few seconds, it just disappeared. by then me and my brother were freaked out, and we switched off the Xbox and stopped playing. I haven’t been to a1 since. I dunno what was in our world. Or what the crosses were.
I remember RetroGamingNow did a video titled "Strange Things Caught On A Minecraft Alpha Channel" a while back and that story turned from an eerie "Ooo scary liminal shit going on in Minecraft Alpha!" to "Let's save this damn world from these anomalies that we know a lot about". In essence it's basically like the SCP Universe and Lore but less scary. I seriously hope this ARG doesn't turn into a story about saving the earth or finding out someone's behind the entire thing and killing them because if it is then my time has been wasted.

I always loved the creepy and eerie atmosphere in the older Minecraft versions. Its a mix of nostalgia and loneliness. At least that’s the vibe I’m getting from watching old Minecraft videos.
I remember playing the alpha and knowing almost nothing about the game, when I explored away from my base I always left a bread-crumb trail of torches because between the small render distance and the absolute dark of the night I was terrified of losing the way back home. I quickly fell in love with how this game can be both cozy and creepy depending on your mood and your approach to it
They could have made these videos using a modified version of a modpack someone made. It makes the game the same as alpha but in 1.19 I think it was. It’s meant to be played with the herobrine mod, a mod that adds running footsteps, sounds, mining sounds when u in caves, and other auditory things in the videos. I could be wrong but if I’m right then that’s a pretty cool concept to use the modpack for. For anybody wondering the modpack is Minecraft MCSX PS1 Edition

But if this video got me to look behind me so often and so much every minute, then i gotta say- this was creepy shit. but congrats Wifies on managing to look into this ARG and try to solve it.
i have a theory... that the "entity" that is haunting mario and Anthony's worlds is Mojang Employees. Because employees have access to game files, new features (such as multiplayer, sprinting, etc found in the video), and can reposition game code, it is possible that the entity was a Mojang employee who was tasked to make them scared and not play the game, as those mario and Anthony are the only (known) 2 that have copied new features from Minecraft.
That “random gibberish” at 15:30 is actual a Caesar cipher with a shift of 13, when decrypted it says “You never really were the nicest person anthony”
2:16 I’ve seen the “you” thing in a bunch of other videos too whenever a black screen with no sound is shown, the captions pretty much always say “you”
Actually, though, a mod that simply messes with your world without killing you would be insane. Kinda like the herobrine mods but less straight to the point and obvious. My idea is that it slowly builds up over time, taking 300 in-game days to reach max strength, but can be sped up by a few hours for every hostile mob you kill or how much time you spend deep and dark, and other stuff like that. And maybe lowered every time you die? It would start normal for the first day or 2, then it starts breaking torches at a random chance, then it starts making the eerie footsteps and breathing, then it starts digging tunnels, and glitching the player to take damage (less that their current health) and stuff and lowering render distance, all while slowly increasing the mob spawns. All of this becomes ever more frequent until the 100% point in which it stops increasing and just stays at full capacity.
I know you mentioned the Herobrine mods already but I do remember they’re being a really good one that came out not too long ago only like a couple years ago I want to say probably 2018 to 19 I don’t remember exactly but it was all over Minecraft, like it actually made people feel like herobrine was in their world Because it did something like what you said slowly build up overtime like first you start to hear things then you would see his silhouette in the distance then all things would happen like the signature, missing leaf trees and straight line holes
One of these with no ties to any creature or entity would be real interesting, the game playing itself a bit to an extent with the environment working in mysterious ways
My theory is that Anthony was an early dev for Minecraft and he coded the new blocks and released them to his own world before the public (Anthology therefore being a fake name to avoid suspicion ) and then met goldmario online and agreed to share the features with him if he agreed to help him fix a bug, the bug being the entity, my theory is that the entity was from the world a REALLY long time ago, in an old version the player could spawn copies of themselves that would run and jump around, I think that one of these somehow stayed in the game and somehow the game thought it was a mob like a pig or something.
@@grigss3027 That's true, I don't really remember anybody other than Jeb during that timeframe though, but I guess there would have been at least a few people by 2010
Was I the only one absolutely obsessed with the Herobrine mystery and all of the Minecraft Creepypastas? I genuinely thought they were real and watched a million videos on those topics. It's super nostalgic to see a good old fashioned creepy Minecraft video in 2024 😭
considering the entity has steve pants and shoes, likes stalking, takes torches, has something to do with fog, and makes tunnels. this kinda just has to be ye good ol Herobrine.
Personally, I have an entire theory about this. At the subtitles part, "Ah um you". Kind of sounds like "I am you." What does this mean you may ask? I think it means that the "supernatural being" is actually the future versions of Anthony and Mario, somehow the future selves managed to travel back in time. And potentially try to stop them from playing the version, because maybe after the events of them in 2010 playing these "unreleased" versions, caused something traumatic in the feature. Which is why I think the "supernatural beings" is actually their future selves.
1:59 these are auto generated subtitles by RUclips and they sometimes bug out and say stuff when its completely silent so this probably doesn't mean anything
I've seen a good deal of ARGs from the old Alpha, but this is already panning out to be one of the creepiest. There's something so eerie about the fog and the sound effects...and the whole "single player world with something else in it" is a downright terrifying touch. Not to mention Anthony. What is haunting this guy? Something just isn't right with him or his worlds. Definitely mysterious.
Beautiful story telling, the eeriness of the story and the eeriness you add into it with the theories make it 10x more creepier, makes me feel like i just watched a movie lol
I remember RetroGamingNow did a video about another Minecraft Alpha ARG and titled the video "Strange Things Caught On A Minecraft Alpha Channel". At first I was interested in the ARG, it looked so real, until Part 2 when we start to understand the lore behind it and then it turned from a "Ooo scary things caught on Minecraft Alpha" to "Let's save this damn planet!" This ARG has so much potential and I hope it won't turn out like that. I hope it won't get nerfed like most horror ARG's where it turns into an ARG about confronting an enemy. I hope it remains mysterious. Because if it does, OH I am definitely gonna sleep with one eye open tonight.
I completely agree. Minecraft ARGs that have the player confronting whatever it is that's haunting them just ruins the entire thing in my opinion. It is always creepier if the entity is shrouded in mystery rather than having a real backstory about it.
@@nicoeloranta9081 it's not a dumb question, arg is short for Alternate Reality Game, I don't really have a good explanation so I'd recommend looking into arg explanation videos. 7:20 Mice on venus was the best song out of all of the minecraft songs (other good ones being Far, Otherside, Pigstep, Cat, Sweden, and Subwoofer Lullaby)
I know that a lot of those shadows in the fog could probably be explained by having those weird dark figure-like shadows just be weird glitches or just it not being loaded in correctly and whatnot, but when you're playing by yourself in dark caves, and you alone, and it's late at night, and you hear what sounds like breathing and foot steps coming towards you and torches are being broken out of no where and you take damage randomly... Scary
I remember a time when I was playing on the first Xbox release version way back in the day. It was a single player world and I was in the caves when I suddenly started getting hit. No mobs around anywhere. I thought it was maybe a little glitch but until I started getting hit repeatedly, like how a player would hit you. I ran outta the caves and chalked it up to just a weird glitch. It wasn’t until later that I learned what Herobrine was and the creepy pastas around it. I honestly do believe there is something very strange and creepy that exists in the early versions of Minecraft.
Wifies have you heard of/seen Not Safe ? There's an ARG he made that we're stuck on, we have a discord server for it but we're quite burnt out. We thought he was done with it but then in a recent video he indicated that it was part of the ARG. He calls it "the funy"

Minecraft alpha is scarier than all horror games combined, because you always know that a horror game was designed to be so, but the feeling of being in Minecraft alpha is something you cannot explain, it feels like unexplainable happens, something that is not intended, something… that’s unknown. What makes it even scarier is that it was not even in Mojang’s control, making it an actual horror movie rather than just a game
Early minecraft feels like its actively trying to mess with you with the low quality, neon textures. It reminds me a lot of this old cgi movie from the 90s about vr and stuff. you had a feeling like you didn't belong there, like exploring an abandoned or incomplete building. like the world wasn't meant to be seen yet, or something. hard to pinpoint exactly what gave alpha that vibe.
Even Minecraft: PS3 Edition is unnerving in its own ways. Every time I boot up my Playstation and put in the disc, I feel in an uncanny state when I haven’t updated since 2013 version, It’s creepy. I feel what you felt when I TO THIS DAY get scared.

i don't understand how Minecraft manages to be scary without being scary amazing
It's the uncertainty and eerie feeling of old minecraft, it's hard to explain
it might be because of the reason how minecraft isnt supposed to be a scary game. unlike horror games, you expect it to be scary.
Maybe because minecraft feels kinda like a liminal space? Especially the old versions since they look a lot more empty
I started playing beta version for couple of days and I was scared shitless when I was going to the cave
that and when night falls, everything got REALLY dark, there was no natural light coming from the moon and stars unlike now and torches barely did anything to illuminate your surroundings
i remember playing survival MCPE lite back in like 2012, and right as i spawned in i constructed a 4x4 dirt house with a singular door placed on one corner and just stayed inside of it because the fog just seriously creeped me out and there was just this unshakable thought at the back of my head that herobrine might be lurking around (keep in mind this was peak herobrine paranoia era minecraft and most of the fanbase wasn’t knowledgable about the inner workings of the game)
so i waited, and waited, until night came. I knew it was gonna be dark but FUCK my 9-year-old-ass was not prepared for Amnesia TDD levels of darkness
so i was scared shitless in my dirt hut, when i heard GRRRR from behind my dirt walls, you know the kind of fear where you just freeze and get silent? yeah, that 10x over
i was just paralyzed, but the game was relentless enough to actually make the zombie navigate to my front door that i was nervously looking at for the past 15 minutes or so, by that point i just closed the game and never touched survival mode again
the creepiness didnt considering The Peaceful Mode makes it creepier with zero mobs and Threats Bjt it still makes you think ur Always being watched.

At the subtitles part, "Ah um you". Kind of sounds like "I am you."
What does this mean you may ask? I think it means that the "supernatural being" is actually the future versions of Anthony and Mario, somehow the future selves managed to travel back in time. And potentially try to stop them from playing the version, because maybe after the events of them in 2010 playing these "unreleased" versions, caused something traumatic in the feature. Which is why I think the "supernatural beings" is actually their future selves.

At first I was interested in the ARG, it looked so real, until Part 2 when we start to understand the lore behind it and then it turned from a "Ooo scary things caught on Minecraft Alpha" to "Let's save this damn planet!"
This ARG has so much potential and I hope it won't turn out like that. I hope it won't get nerfed like most horror ARG's where it turns into an ARG about confronting an enemy. I hope it remains mysterious. Because if it does, OH I am definitely gonna sleep with one eye open tonight.
That’s cool and all and I agree but how do you sleep with one eye open?!??!
I completely agree. Minecraft ARGs that have the player confronting whatever it is that's haunting them just ruins the entire thing in my opinion. It is always creepier if the entity is shrouded in mystery rather than having a real backstory about it.
I completely agree
a ton of potential here and I really hope its continued

I love minecraft args, they take something so innocent like minecraft and makes it spookier than alpha minecraft is already
What is an a arg sry might be a dumb question
@@nicoeloranta9081 it's not a dumb question, arg is short for Alternate Reality Game, I don't really have a good explanation so I'd recommend looking into arg explanation videos. Some games will have a ton of player (people on the outside interacting with the person or people making the game) interactions while others won't.
@@nicoeloranta9081Alternative/Augmented Reality Game
It's also the wrong name for something like this, which would technically fall under Unfiction.

the placing blocks actually made me freeze in place, insanely creepy knowing its singleplayer
What do you mean by it. The arg in this video?
@@tbawesomeness4396no one by Not Safe
@@tbawesomeness4396 Look up Not Safe. That is the channel I am referring to, completely unrelated to this ARG.
that sounds interesting
I haven't, very curious
With how creepy Minecraft is even without these creepypastas and stuff, I am 100% sure it was meant to be a horror game at first and no one can change my mind
yah no shit, most of the time i play w/ out sound it freaks me out so much lol
i play without cave sounds imagine hearing an eerie high-pitched creeper sound while mining then you hear a crash from a metal object wth @@ToobyTerrible
Plus the world is very lifeless, which makes any entity even a creeper jumpscare spooky
poppy playtime and fnaf will quit there jobs seeing this arg
SM64 ARG's are legitimately more creepy lmao
Yeah being it mystery makes it alot creepier
@@mrsillytacos olg games args are pure horror
Ngl i kinda like the idea of mojang putting an entity that hunts players in unreleased copies of the game as a form of karma
Early minecraft feels like its actively trying to mess with you with the low quality, neon textures. It reminds me a lot of this old cgi movie from the 90s about vr and stuff. Idk what it was called, but the early cg made the vr segments super creepy and really added to the vibe. The alpha minecraft world feels like a cheap facade to distract you from something else, and I love it. My main world is on it too for that reason.
Awh man, it's upsetting when youre left without a solid conclusion :(
its brutal :(
hopefully it's revisited
