Congratulations! That was really fun to watch. One day when you come up to Cherokee, try and talk to some of the older native men and ask about what woods are chosen by us for exactly what you did in this video. Native Americans and poor people of the Great Smokies, Appalachian, and the Blue Ridge Mountains have lived well doing what you shared in this video. Always tight lines, Tony Walkingstick
You aren't wrong. This video was shot in the Appalachians and I'm sure someone has caught a few fish out of there with a stick before me. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
1st brookie I ever caught on a fly was one I tied from feathers in a pillow , and a small piece of xmas tinsel.....It worked !!!! I was 13 . Just proves that the fish don't care how much you spend on gear ,, it's how you present what ya got .....
Thanks for the memories . My grandfather used to keep a little tin snuff can in a back pack with small split shot and hooks . He would wind off some 2lb test line on an old thread spool , and keep that in there as well. We would walk back in the mountains find a small stream then the fun would begin. He would cut the us both a long straight sapling , tie us on about 10 foot of line a hook and sinker . Then we would dig through the rocks for a small lizard , crawfish or whatever we could find for bait . Caught a lot of beautiful trout back in those days. Oh by the way that was about 48 years ago but that video made it seam like yesterday
This is the most Amazing Fishing Video on RUclips I've ever seen. We fished like this when I was very young. 59 now, brought back lots of memories. Thanks Bro for Daring to be Different.
Dude, that was pretty cool man 😁👍....TOTALLY reminded me of the story of "Huck Finn" or perhaps like a Norman Rockwell type of era where this was like THE ONLY type of fishing that could be done in that time period kinda thang. Well done my friend, lookin forward to more...plz keep em comin bro. Peace ✌😎
That video took me back to some of the goofy things I used to try when I was much younger! Hotdog and/or bologna meat used to work well for some nice trout back then. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!
I am 62yrs old and this brings back childhood fishing memories! I haven't seen a bamboo fishing rod in a store in many years. Maybe I just haven't gone to the right store.? FISH ON!!!
Guys you are masters in this stuff, unbelievable you caught several trouts with under 5 dollars kit. GREAT VIDEO. keep the good and entertainment job you are doing!!!
This really brings back some memories for me, when I was a kid. We lived on a large river and my parents had 4 kids. Dad work from 6am until 8 or 9pm during the summer, just to support all of us! Luckily for him, we have access to a bamboo patch down by the river. We must have fished Spring to Fall and from age 6 to age 12, all we ever had was bamboo poles with lines and hooks. No telling how many catfish and bream we ate back in those days!!
Unreal---this video is awesome shows you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to enjoy this sport----I did a post the other day on my blog of my top five fly fishing youtube channels and your's was one of them---thanks for sharing
You just caught more trout than I caught all of last year. We only have seasonal stocked trout around here though and they are highly pressured. Great job guys, I enjoyed it!
Loved your challenge vid. What fishing is all about, goes to show you don't have to empty your bank account to go out and enjoy a spot of fishing down your local creek
Use to do this long ago..Our Grandma in Wisconsin use to take us kids out and fish with bamboo poles...'bout 10' of line a hook and a sinker(whatever we had as a weight)and maybe a bobber..that was it...and of course the night crawlers form the night before as bait! caught tones of crappie and bluegill on those things!!!
@@jacobhornberger8073 it was a joke man. You would have to see my response to his earlier WalMart challenge to see I was making fun of myself not the stick challenge. I’m not busting anybody’s chops but my own.
I thought this was a great video. I always say you don't have to get fancy to have fun fishing, also I learned to fish with a cane pole. Cane pole fishing is very fun. Keep it simple. 😀👍👍👍
Hilarious!!!! Hey kid used to fish with cane poles and fishing line great challenge! I’ve often thought about doing that with a cane pole just see if I could do it years ago..
A whole lotta fun for $5 and if need be a meal. Where else can u get fun and a meal under $5 ? Imagine what you can have done with the deluxe package which cost $8 ? 🤔😊
TIMES WERE TOUGH WHEN I WAS YOUGHN . BUT A GOOD ALDER AND SUM LINE AND HOOK A POCKET FULL OF WORMS AND COUPLE OF HOT DOGS IN THE OTHER MADE FOR A GOOD FEW HOURS OF FISHING . WHAT MEMORIES ..😊
What I like to do is make little float rigs with an ear plug and just a hook with a worm or bug on it and then some line in my hands and just toss it out and fish that way.
I took it a bit farther one day as a boy. I went with nothing at all. I scrounged everything... pole, line, hook, bait.... sapling, tangled mono found, bent finishing nail from a piece of wood, tent caterpillars for bait.... caught some native brookies in a small stream.
Funny thing, the biggest fish I ever caught is back when I was around 10, I used a bamboo stick + a super cheap hook, cheap fishing line, a warm to fishing, then I got a huge Crucian carp
When my fly rod broke I tied some line to a willow limb a small hook and grasshopper for bait and caught some trout. Now it obviously doesn't cast efficiently but on a small trout stream you don't need long elegant casts.
If you don't answer me I'm going to dislike the last 20 videos. What gear were you using in the last video, catching the brooks, and Goliath?? What rod, length, and line also the brands. Thank you
This is beyond ridiculous. Pause the video and read the labels. Or maybe ask nicely instead of threatening a content creator you obviously follow but don't care to support. Poor form
OKAY FINE. The rod I usually use for brook trout fishing is a custom Bomber Fly rod. It is a 6'6" 3 wt glass rod and is awesome for dry fly fishing. I used to have a Risen ITB but my brother broke it. Either way I'm always using a 3 wt in either 6'6" or 7'6" and I pair it with a Lamson Liquid fly reel. I honestly don't know what fly line is on the reel, I think it was scientific angler but I could be wrong, I know I got it on sale a year or so ago.
@@hardmanfishing Jon, I have a Tenkara rod you can try out. Am in Huntington but travel all over the state regularly. It's a hoot to fish with up in the NE corner of the state. Check your FB friend requests...
The Walmart fly rig video was budget conscious fly fishing. I am uncertain this can be classified as fly fishing but it is certainly fishing on the cheap. Fun to watch.
This will give any youngsters watching lots of hope to fish with only a stick, some line and some kinda bait on a hook. Good job guys
Thank you!

This needs to be a tournament format.
Tenkara in a nutshell
Thanks for making this, I can't afford a rod and I've been fly fishing this way. People laugh at me but I still enjoy it, that's what it's all about.
this video shows that knowledge is more valuable than expensive gear

Gives new meaning to standing in a river waving a stick.
TRUE! If anybody saw us they were probably very confused.
Great idea! Enjoyed the vid, thanks.
Great fun to watch!
Congratulations you're a tenkara fisherman now!
Thank you it was hard work getting here!
why do I feel like every fisherman has tried fishing with a stick before XD
You're probably right honestly...
Euro stick nymphing - new series!! :)). Fun vid fun idea!

This inspired me to go try this at a creek in my backyard caught 2 nice Browns 🐟

that's awesome
My dad used to fish with a bamboo cane pole he cut on the riverbank. Tied on a hook and sinker, live bait, usually worms. He caught a lot of fish.
that last one was pretty
One of the prettier looking rainbows I've caught in a while for sure. Thanks for watching
Awesome video man!!!!
Thank you!
my first rod was what we called a cane pole. The American Tenkara!
Real tenkara is the best tho
Where can I get one of those stick rods? Do they come with different tip action? Great fun video.
I believe they are in any stream with trees nearby, but I could be wrong. Thanks for watching!

Hooked a rainbow on a tenkara rod at Stage Coach in Colorado a few summers ago. Unable to land it though. Such is life without reels

That's true!!
Found fishing line found hook found aluminium walking through the water (Atlantic coast) hooking up small bluefish. Granted they'll hit anything
Have you ever Tankara fished ?
FYI Never ever go out into the woods without some kinda survival knife. I carry a Gerber multi-tool Cuz it's perfect for fishing 🥴😎
Yeah I left my knife in the car... but the rock worked fine! Thanks for watching!
I did. this today with a stick a got a huge fish but the stick broke 😂😂
Btw I use bread
yoo lemme get that stick
Stick giveaway?? I actually did keep it
You should of looked a bit harder for a better stick I'm sure I saw a carbon graphite tree behind you. Haha
I think it would have helped hook ups if you straightened out the leader
I tried... that walmart leader just isn't all that great to be honest.
