- In this Fishing Challenge I take you guys with me to Cabelas with a budget of $20! We have to purchase FLY FISHING gear within that budget that will help us catch some fish in a local creek! This is going to be my SECOND TIME EVER fly fishing. We then take our new gear out to test it in the waters and see if we can catch some fish!
Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for the support! At the time of this upload we just passed 249,400 I'm having so much fun making these videos, lets keep this rolling!

Someone that I gave a few pointers to n hooked up a rig for years ago thanked me recently for helping keep his freezer full n family fed during a rough patch in his life. Sometimes, you really don’t know what “small gestures” can do.

I remember the day I first tried fly fishing . I had been fasinated with it for a long time. I went to the big sporting goods store, bought a starter kit and went to the lake. LOL I was popping and cracking and this older guy who was casting flies walked over and showed me how to cast , gave me some pointers and I was off and running . I learned to cast really fast . I used to see him all the time at that lake , what a nice guy . Its been a long time and I forgot his name but Thanks
I gotta warn you, we come in three varieties. It's a 30:68:2 ratio. 30% will be downright hostile. 68% will help you out, though they'll either hold back at something or hate you afterwards because you'll be taking their spots/gear. 2% actually enjoy helping people fish. Most fly fisherman land in that last category so long as you're a fly fisherman as well

if your set up wrong people tend to not catch fish and give up this version of the sport.

You need to go fly fishing for bass/bluegill! It is AWESOME and much easier than fly fishing for trout! Go try it! (and make a vid)

At any time your lure or fly gets stuck, point the rod at the lure or fly and grab the line with your free hand and pull the line. Don't jerk the rod on the line like that, or you will break another rod. on a spinning reel you could even bend the spool doing that.

Yeah, Because we have no reason to be mean. We all just want to have fun and watch others have fun. I'm lucky enough to have a grandpa like Tom and he's teaching me now
Guys when you are a beginner at fly fishing, finding a mentor is the best possible way to learn. The best advice I have gotten for fly fishing is don’t be a jerk. The fish will mostly set the hook itself so you just need to lift up on the rod, like raise it high and start pulling in your line. Decent casting for a beginner, find those holes buddy and keep fishing!
Definitely should go multi species with the fly rod. Can catch bass, bluegill, crappie, even carp on flies. And fly tying is awesome to get into. Definitely try looking at the insect life in, on and around the water and match the hatch as fly fishermen say
FirstStateFishing what you need to do is go down to Morgantown Wv, theres the place called McFly Fishing and take a couple classes from them. Talk to a guy named Dale one of the smartest men on this planet, he will teach you everything. Buy all your fly fishing supplies from them, ask for Dale he will give you an honest opinion. They will help you out, and get your casting and other techniques up to par. No worries fly fishing takes years to learn. Good luck! Oh, also the fly fishing community is the best. They give you free stuff, don’t be shy to return the favor though.
Your videos really do make everyone’s day better
About the broken rod.. This happens a lot and the usual suspect is a weighted fly (or the shot if you put one on a leader) hitting the rod during a cast. You'll probably won't even notice it, but these carbon fiber rods are extremely sturdy until you break one small strand in the fabric at which point it becomes as brittle as a twig. The hit might have happened a few sessions prior, but at this point the rod is a 'dead man walking' - and the thing is - you can't see it, there is no visible mark. It's happened to all of us (at least 2 or 3 times for me), no matter the brand, make, quality of the rod, it is bound to happen once in a while.

I never fly fish. I want to try. I’m old 45 I had a gym teacher that would tie flys up during class. Awesome to watch.
fly tying is my second favourite part of fly fishing (#1 is catching fish) and it would be awesome if you tried it
The fly fishing community is a beautiful place. In my 12 grade year I was very depressed and I was planning on the worst and my agriscience teacher sat me down one day because it was blatant to him what I was about to do ( written over my face type thing ) long story short after I spent some time in the hospital getting help I came back to school and he set me up a old rod of his and told me to meet him down at the hole near our house since we were actually neighbours on the same road and prior we chatted a lot in class about fishing and whatnot so it’s not completely random by any means but yeah for my second semester everyday after school we fished at knoxs dam until it was dark and even when I was going to school I’d skip class because I never had him the second semester only the first & I’d come into school in full gear just to show him a fish I caught at lunch break just to leave again😂

Hook set needs to be a little bit more gentle, but I’ve never seen someone do that well on their second time so good job! Hope to see many more fly fishing videos!

My local fly tying business Trout Unlimited, has a whole ton of flies and are 12 flies for $10 any size, any color. They make very good flies and last a long time

For future advice instead of a bobber use a floating fly or dry fly like a trinobal and then try the second fly on the hook trust me it’s sound weird but It’ll work and then tie on a bead head fly and that way when they hit the top fly more hook ups

U need to take plastic of the cork handle it will make it crack when water gets in mate
I was bass fishing at the Mississippi, and I always saw these Asian dudes fighting these big carp, and so I tried one day but didn't get anything. The next day I asked an old Asian man, and he taught me soooo much. Caught two the next day.
Strike indicators are nice way to learn. You could look into euro nymphing as well
Dude! youll love Euro Nymphing when you try it, its similar but more on tight line method

Just a bit of advise is to keep your finger holding the line onto the rod and when you catch a fish just pull it against your finger.
