To be frank, when it comes to the uppermost tier of UK universities, the truly elite circle is quite small and remarkably exclusive. Despite what various league tables might indicate, only a select few institutions consistently attract the attention of top employers, whether in bulge-bracket investment firms, leading consultancy agencies, top-tier banks, or global corporations. These institutions are Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Warwick, and UCL. Year after year, they represent the pinnacle for recruitment within prestigious sectors, and their reputation endures as unmatched in the UK landscape. For the top players, these six universities form an elite league that essentially stands above the rest, regardless of shifting rankings. Again, these are OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE, LSE, IMPERIAL, WARWICK AND UCL.
I disagree with Warwick. For IB sure its top cause its maths/econ is elite but otherwise its not in a different league compared to Durham/Bath/Bristol etc. I turned down warwick for law and was choosing primarily between Durham/Bristol as theyre both better represented in big Law.
Did you find out why Nottingham's ranking is so low now? I go there and the rankings are always a humbling experience to behold. I had a look at national rankings from the early 2000s and it was usually in the top 10. How the mighty have fallen lol
I was just joking but I was definitely surprised to beat so many top unis. The uni is definitely doing something amazing to be ahead of Manchester, Bristol, kcl etc. people won’t appreciate it until they hear more people like you talking about it! Enjoy your time there!
In response to your other comment, I would say the uni isn't as important here but the degree of project management is in very high demand . You'll have a lot of good job opportunities in this area
Is Henley Business School (Uni of Reading) good to break into finance roles? I know it’s one of the best business schools in the UK but it typically isn’t spoken of as a target/semi-target for IB or Private Equity.
I would like to know if cranfield university and its management were ranked along with these universities where do you think it will be in the rankings?
Id say royal Holloway is top of that list, very good uni . I wouldn’t say it’s really part of London if you’re looking for a central London uni. Birkbeck specialty is in evening and part time postgraduate courses . Westminster is ok but third from your list
Hi , watching your videos for a while and find them very informative . Just wondering as you mentined about your business management undergraduate degree efforts at imperial, why not to make a video ranking of businees management undegraduate degree course from various universities. Keenly looking forward to your video on it.
Thanks for the kind words! Just in case there was a mix up , I didn't go business mgmt at imperial because I didn't feel like imperial would give it good resources (and they then shut down eventually). But thanks for the suggestion and I will definitely be making videos on business management and accounting /finance degree tier list.
It's very good. But you also benefit from less emphasis on top unis for computer science careers.....it's all about your portfolio, personal projects etc. but in the north of England it's one of the best
Appreciate the kind words! For CS i would roughly go in that order, Leeds/Liverpool only a marginal difference so have a think about other factors such as location as well. But Sheffield would be last purely from a uni review. However, for CS very important to build up a good project portfolio, this will make you stand out much more from what i've seen in big tech firms. If you have amazing personal projects you can show on your CV then you can stand out from any uni.
The only real thing in terms of rankings that would help is the number of applications/avg entry requirements because it does medicine. However did you see where it ranks in student satisfaction (check soas section)? That pushes it waaay low down the rankings. But at the same time things will change during the merger: Improvements, efficiencies and a new uni culture would be established which would slowly increase it's position over time.
That ranking is such a joke lmao, QS or ARWU is so much better imo (There's so many unis in the top 20 that you can get into by just breathing and unis outside that you can't get into for some courses even if you have all A*s)
As someone who applied last year I can tell you right now that literally noone takes any of the league tables seriously. The only local ranking I've seen people sort of use was times so that's alright aswell.
Both of you are exactly right. For so many unis no one cares where they're ranked, theyre just top unis. No truly top uni will explain where they are in the UK rankings (global rankings are different). If the uni has to explain then they're not a top uni. I'm sure Lancaster tells everyone where they are in the rankings but Warwick will never discuss it. Unfortunately this ranking is the most popular one so it had to be used to review.
Sir I would greatly appreciate your advice. Do i retake a-levels and actually put in work to get all a stars (which I know i can) to then apply for russel group unis or do I go city for economics (I have a place for next year) and try my best to get a first class honours? I don't know if it's worth the money and time to resit. In my mind if I'm proactive at city and get enough experience I can still be a respectable candidate when applying for the top firms.
Unis are very strict these days on uk students retaking for no real reason. If you have a very very strong case of what you feel you didnt do well then only then but feel free to also contact the uni course organizers. Ive done that for my masters course to make sure my qualifications were fine. They'll be more than happy to answer how likely it is for them to accept you with retakes
@@CertifiedTalks Thank you for your response. I didn't even take into consideration that I will be disadvantaged when reapplying because I retook. So I should just go to city then and as I said be proactive and gain experience during my time there
Those are the great subjects. Do any degrees ask for physics? Unis mostly care about only two out of the three subject , even in medicine if you have biology and chemistry you could study art as the third one and they'd be fine
Hi bro Can u pls help me to select the best university for my master's in data science among "Aston University" and "University of Strathclyde-glasgow"
@@CertifiedTalks The Uni itself is amazing and the facilities are very good as well, especially for a small uni. The teaching is top notch, honestly as an LLB student i was expecting a more of a 'do it yourself' attitude but the lecturers ensure to explain everything well; but the admin is atrocious taking forever to respond to even general queries and on top of that a lot of students are not happy with the new management of soas specifically Adam Habib
I've been to soas a couple of times for events and I agree it's decent. In my London value ranking I put it quite high tbh but I feel your point about admin and uni responsiveness is something that holds it back and you have to put up with it for three years.
i want to study economics at uni and I have applied to Oxford, Warwick, Bath, Bristol and Manchester. Which of the five has the greatest job prospects?
@@CertifiedTalksOxford, Manchester, Bristol,Warwick and Bath, that's about the correct order.Manchester university alone has 26 Nobel prize winners among its current and former staff and students, more than Bristol, Warwick and Bath combined.😅
What is your opinion on Portsmouth and Winchester uni? They are my ideal choices as they do my ideal courses. I am thinking of doing a masters at Warwick after but I’m not sure if they unis will set me back in terms of employment or getting into Warwick?
If they're your ideal choices then you should do it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Portsmouth is also a very good uni, it's starting an interesting partnership with KCL where it has a semi joint medicine degree. Only you know what you need and doing that is what's going to make you succeed.
Go for Surrey if you’re looking for just which uni will give you the better chance. However you will need to study a stem / finance subject to stand out

Hehe feeling it speaks to another generation? What do you wish you knew about choosing universities now you're at one?

Definitely agree with that, the same subjects are very different at different unis.

Oxford, but what really matters in terms of job prospects is your extra curriculars/work experience
They did Edinburgh and York dirty. Edinburgh should be top 10 and York top 15
I agree with those, they seem to rate Loughborough/Lancaster too high imo
Is Henley Business School (Uni of Reading) good to break into finance roles?
