- Tens of thousands of Armenians rallied in Yerevan on May 9 over a border deal that cedes some land to Azerbaijan. The leader of the protest, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanian, called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian to resign over the deal. The archbishop has vowed to continue the protest.

Regrettably a peace agreement with Azerbaijan is now a necessity for Armenia. Their ability to fight their more powerful neighbour is poor as was seen in 2019 & 2023,they have no reliable allies who can offer support that can deter Azerbaijan and their armed forces are still re arming and retraining. An arrangement whi h can buy time for Armenia to recover from the shock of two consecutive defeats and regain self confidence is needed. Now is not the time for internal disunity. Armenia still needs another 3 years to recover its poise.
Who are you? No allies? France, United States, European Union, Canada, Saudi Arabia, India, Greece, South America. This deal is the brain child of Russian and Turkish pressure in the region, and Pashinyan trying to get re-elected or save face on his peace deal promises. Absolutely nothing else, but some kind of little gimmick to try to keep the balance of power between the west in the east. It didn’t work because it threw away the will of the Armenian people.

Armenians have great reverence for their charlatan priests, and they love churches and monasteries, that's all they built on the lands they inhabited. No forts, towers or fortifications, but useless churches. Their forefathers in the middle ages were, as today, French assets. I don't know about this priest, though. He could be an ally of Moscow or not. Certainly, he uses the tactics used by Pashinyan to oust the previous regime.

@@danielhunter607 unlike you i lived in Caucasus for 20 years and very familiar anthropologically and geographically with its history and people. there is international law that all people on earth live by at the moment, and according to those laws accepted by 190 countries including Armenia itself, those villages are rightfully and legally part ofAzerbaijan, they were part of azerbaijan since the first republic in 1918, not Armenia. Before that there were no borders, it was all Russian Empire. And before that there had NOT been any Armenian statehood since year 428!!! Which is like 1500 years without any state and legal territory, while the whole region and vast majority of Near East from Anatolia all the way to Caspian see and the northern Mesopotamia was ruled by strong independent Turkic empires and states - starting from Seljuks, Akkoyunlus, Karakoyunlus, Safavids, Ottomans etc. which Azerbaijanis as well as Turks DIRECTLY descend from!
Besides, All the way up to 1990s these Azeri villages within legal territories of Azerbaijan and many other villages around those areas inside the Armenian territories were predominantly and historically inhabited by turkic speaking Azeries, not armenians. Like UN approved it with 4 declarations demanding Armenia to recede them back to Azerbaijan, and EU and USA are currently supporting this return not because they love azerbaijan, but because this is what international law and justice DICTATES and requires!
