No! I used to watch him when i was sick , home from school. He was a good man and treated a lot of his eccentric guests with respect and dignity.

What I liked about Phil Donahue is that although he was politically liberal, he would always have a fair and balanced conversation with anyone, no matter their political view. This of course was the reason for his successful run on television and honestly, this is what the world needs more. I still enjoy watching his old clips where he had Milton Friedman on his show to discuss various issues covering economic to social and how entertaining the conversations were, because they were intelligent conversations.

I remember his talk show and how professional he was in delivering commentary and the truth on difficult issues. He could argue with his guests without putting them down. It’s a lost art. He was a good man. My condolences to his family. 😊

Phil is why my Dad stopped drinking! Mom watching Phil instead of attending to dad, dad ripping tv out the wall and setting at the curb. After he saw the holes in the wall and my mom's tears, he never drank again. True story!

I greatly respected Phil Donahue, and he and beloved That Girl Marlo Thomas were truly happy together, too. I wish that more journalists and anchors presented information and could speak as well as he did. He made everyone feel included regardless of where his personal and political views were.

My grandmother attended a taping of "The Phil Donahue Show" when I was about ten years old, along with my great-aunt and godmother. They didn't participate with any comments or questions, but I instantly recognized them in the audience. I happened to be watching the show after school with my granddad, while none the wiser about when that episode would be airing. I got ecstatic and said to him, "There she is!" She was on her way home from work at the time, and I couldn't wait to tell her.

I loved the Donahue show when I was a kid from the mid 70s to the early 80s. As the 80s wore on, I remember liking him less and less. Partly, of course, I was changing, growing up. But Donahue changed too, becoming more aggressive and irritating in his questioning. I remember after he retired, I read an article about him in which he said that this change had basically been imposed on him by the executives, who wanted him to be more in line with the way talk shows were developing at the time. He had to be more sensationalistic and less thoughtful, or lose his job. It’s a sad story, but I will always remember 70s Phil Donahue.
