Also keep in mind that Guts has had a fear of abandonment ever since he realized that his adoptive father never wanted him and tried to murder him. Guts thought he HAD to leave the Hawks and find his own dream to prove himself to Griffith. He refused to be abandoned again. That ironically caused a worse fate for Guts. Instead of everyone leaving him, Griffith TOOK his people away from him, sacrificing them and forcing him to watch. "If I can't have you, then neither can the Hawks." But then a fallen king from a lost time entered into the picture and intervened. From there, it was up to Guts to decide where to go. At first, Guts chose vengeance. But after long enough, he realized it wasn't worth it. Casca was. So he set out to find her again, even in her broken state. He once again chose someone else over Griffith. This set off Griffith like nothing else. It's why he took Casca in the recent chapters. This is his last attempt to make Guts pursue him, by making sure the one thing he cares about is beside him at all times, so that he has no choice but to go after him. Guts could let it go. Griffith refuses to tolerate it. Because of this, Guts was never Griffith's equal. He was always superior to him.
Update on my previous comment after looking at Chapter 372. I think Griffith wants to make Guts suffer until his Behelit activates. Remember, Guts has been carrying one around since Black Swordsman. Griffith wants Guts to become an Apostle so that Guts is a permanent servant of the Godhand, because even Emperor Ganishka couldn't resist their control.
And I think that the reason of Casca's kidnapping (alongside from preventing that the Moonlight Boy doesn't take him out of Falconia every full moon) was to erase her most traumatic memories AND her memories with pre and post Eclipse Guts and the JRPG party and, after that, transform her into an pseudo apostle or brainwash her to think that Guts is her enemy!
Guts was never an Edgy character and by edgy character i think u know what i mean by it And in Guts's first fight he might have felt a bit inferior to Griffith but he was also Disapointed in himself for losing but Guts never holded a grudge for it İn a way Griffith was Makima and Guts was Denji Guts never knew what trully a family was he never felt love or beloved Griffith saw Guts and was intrested its like how Makima sees the Chainsaw Devil her equal Guts wasnt the Smartest Griffiths words confused him and made him question himself and what he was doing which never happend before And this is my conclusion
Griffith is a weirdo and pure evil guys sensed it taught it would be better if he leave people like that guts wanted peace all his life but he never got. What he got instead was chaos and depression.
He’s the p diddy of manga. But seriously Griffith is one of those rare villains I despise. Not one of the so cold it’s cool villains, I actually hate his existence.
Griffith: I want my friend to be my equal
Guts: becomes his equal
Griffith: 😡
Griffith already saw guts as his equal

thanks I appreciate it!
you have a full recap on my channel if you would like to check it out
I thought the reason he left was because he felt tired of feeling inferior to Griffith, what do you think could this also be part of the reason?
Guts was never an Edgy character and by edgy character i think u know what i mean by it
And in Guts's first fight he might have felt a bit inferior to Griffith but he was also Disapointed in himself for losing but Guts never holded a grudge for it
İn a way Griffith was Makima and Guts was Denji
Guts never knew what trully a family was he never felt love or beloved
Griffith saw Guts and was intrested its like how Makima sees the Chainsaw Devil her equal
Guts wasnt the Smartest Griffiths words confused him and made him question himself and what he was doing which never happend before
And this is my conclusion
My question is what did Guts do in that year he left? What was his dream? Did he even have one?
Griffith is a weirdo and pure evil guys sensed it taught it would be better if he leave people like that guts wanted peace all his life but he never got. What he got instead was chaos and depression.
