If you want to do something great with your life, that negative voice will come. And when it comes, you go ahead and defend yourself.
Remind those demons of who you are, remind yourself of who you are and what you want to accomplish.
Do it over and over again.
Do it every day.
Because the cost of not doing it, the cost of letting that inner critic have the final say, is too high.

I love the message and the skirt! As an older woman, I’m in a different place in my life. My kids are grown and on their own and I’m picking up old hobbies that were put aside while I was busy raising a family. I am very rusty and hesitant each time I try. I procrastinate and get frustrated. I’m slowly getting back into things again and I’m learning new skills. I even taught myself some carpentry skills and am working on my second kitchen renovation. It feels great!

I try to shut my inner critic up by saying that I'm allowed to not be the best, I'm allowed to have a learning curve. Sometimes I just want to be good enough, sometimes I just want to have fun along the way. That's fine!

I too have an inner voice, that I argue with constantly . But if you don’t try then you will never know. The skirt is lovely and you look lovely in it. I have bought a pattern for dungarees and my inner voice is saying your too old to wear these, but I’m going to, they look so comfortable., even if I might look like a children’s TV presenter ❤

Silence the inner critic. Get on with your craft. Have a go and it is the trying. Listen to your curiousity. In my sewing room I bought a huge basket for my fabric with thd word PLAY on it. It encourages me to sew as play time while I learn my skills. ❤❤❤🎉 Love your videos!

By the way, i really liked the final result. I've been wanting to make this kind of short wrapped skirts. I have a pattern and all but... I let my inner critic talk too loudly. It was saying that that kind of skirt wouldn't fit my body. But loved how you took the chance to embrace your needs and wants.

It is very kind of you to share with us your questions, your fears, your doubts and your performance concerns. With all the beautiful things that can be seen on social networks where everything seems perfect, everyone seems at their best, it becomes easy to doubt ourselves and our skills to make such beautiful achievements and to feel as beautiful and fit as we see everywhere.
I felt that way for a long time in my life, I used to be a graphic designer and I always had the feeling that I was not living up to expectations. It was in my head because I did this job successfully for thirty years. Now I'm more peaceful, maybe it's because I'm older now (67) I am newly retired and I want to do things that inspire me and make me feel in peace with myself. Keep going Alexandra.💖.

I really love your content i normally do not comment on videos but i really appreciate what you do i am a very talented creative, draw, I paint and i sew but i have not been able to make a very impressive headway in my career because of this inner critic. I have recently discovered your videos and I adore them (and you.) I am 61 and have been hounded by that voice my whole life. Watching you “feel the fear and do it anyway” is so inspiring. Thank you for following your heart and making videos that touch something inside me. At the end when you listed all the things inside that are waiting for us to create and you said “books” I burst into tears. There is a book inside of me that wants to come out. My inner critic says “ who would care? “ Your video shows me that we never know who might need what we have to put out into the world. Keep following your heart and I will do the same. ❤️❤️❤️

When I film a video, I push aside my mess so it's just out of shot 😅, so all I kept thinking was "I wonder if she had to tidy up her whole house since she filmed from so many angles and corners" 😂.

I tend to tidy the house the day before I sew or quickly for half an hour to make sure that my space is inviting and relaxing. I find that when I sew and the space is messy I don’t fully relax and enjoy it. I think it has to do with me having a very busy brain, so a messy space puts me on edge. Which I realise as I am typing this that it sounds like a bucket full of made up stuff but sadly that’s the truth! X

I’d do (almost) anything to have a lovely slim young figure like yours again, but age and ill health have worked a wicked trick on mine, but it is what I have so I try to work with it. You make and wear anything you want to, there really are no rules anymore.

Love these video of yours, so empowering. I too keep buying patters, fabric, threads….and it just piles up. I am afraid to cut, sew, them fail cause it doesn’t fit. Having a hard time getting over this fear. I don’t know what the big deals, doesn’t fit, ok so redo it bigger… what the problem right? I keeping trying to convince myself that it’s not a problem!

You look amazing in your skirt❤️ I'm just realising that I have actually have the same fears and also feel I'm constantly on a mission to get people to rake my "craft" seriously. Most think it's just a hobby and I have all the time in the world to just sew up something "quickly" not realusing how late I have to work, how hard I need to push myself so that I can basically squeeze in some sewing time. I can't continue sewing if my space is not clean or I have other things I need to attend to...and Likewise I can't do other things if I have a sewing project on my mind. My sewing is my relax time to clear my mind.
oh I 100% feel like I relate! I don't sew when my space is messy! It's only going to lead to mistakes and vibes that are off! Regarding getting people to rake your craft seriously, I heard someone say that it is not our job to make people understand us! Alexandra, this was beautiful. Very ASMR (which I know is quite the fad, but I definitely found myself very relaxed watching and listening to this video). Your words were lovely. I wonder, how do you handle fighting others negative talk and always defending your creativity to others. I fight the battle against myself, but also others. Combined they can be quite overwhelming. The phrase, "you have too much time on your hands/Where do you find the time?" is quite hurtful. Often I want to retort, "well, I am not perched on a bar stool for 4hrs every day, so there's that..". "Wow! You have so much fabric. You must spend a lot of money!". I do. Sure. But I also don't drink, smoke, go to the movies, have pets, eat out and all my bills are paid is it wrong to treat myself because it is different to how they treat themselves? I have a physical representation of where my money was spent which I guess can be quite confronting to some. So while my head is telling me I am not good enough, it is reinforced by all those other voices saying negative things too. It hasn't stopped me but it does make me withdraw more.

I found it helpful to tell myself that it is not my job to make people understand me.
People are entitled to their opinions of me, and will go ahead an box me in their categories, and it’s not my job to worry about that. Or even bother changing their opinions, or proving them wrong.
That’s not my business. I have got bigger and better things to worry about.
It’s an ongoing work to not worry about people’s opinions of you, but it’s very important for the sake of our freedom and sanity.
