Got around to watching this after Adelaro linked it. Gotta say, this is an incredible review and talks about so many of the points of why I love this game to absolute pieces, while also being relatively spoiler free! That’s actually incredible! It really deserves more attention.
I really cannot express just HOW MUCH this game NEEDS attention. It is probably one of the BEST and most underlooked games I've played in a VERY LONG TIME.
Isn't it great when Leif's *[REDACTED]* is explained in *[REDACTED]* after *[REDACTED]* and you talk to *[REDACTED]* ? I especially liked the part where *[REDACTED]* appeared and you had to *[REDACTED]* the *[REDACTED]* , with all the mushrooms and stuff. That was my favorite part.
That part was so messed up! I can't belief Leif is actually a [REDACTED], and you have to fight that horrifying [REDACTED], then you learn not only are you in [REDACTED] but all the [REDACTED] are probably [REDACTED]! Like what the heck happened right!?

I only learned about this game shortly after it came out, and when I played it, it completely blew me away. Such an amazing game! I really hope Bug Fables eventually gets the recognition it deserves. Ya know, an interest thing I find about the art style is that, yeah the characters all look like they would fit in in Paper Mario just fine, but at the same time, the game doesn't really pull any paper-related gags like Paper Mario does. It seems like more of just a style choice.
indeed you are correct , for the sequel if they made the models 3d and kept the same art style then they would just be making another Okami game which is my second favorite game of all time so that would just be fantastic :D ....
Original paper mario didnt either, it was supposed to look like a storybook/popupbook. Thousand Year Door did the same thing but did technically have some "paper gimicks" since it had mario folding up or going sideways, but the world was still popupbook-like. BugFables looks like a popupbook. Success.

I legit would have never saw lief, and go "hmm yes, this moth with ice magic is a fusion of a cordecypts that has taken over a moth. I freaking love Lief for that. Also, I'm a believer that the roaches in snake mouth lab are worse in morality than the wasp king.
It's crazy to think that in less than 2 months we will have 2 paper mario games. one more old school (Bug Fables) and one more modern (Paper Mario Origami King). My 35 hours of playtime on Bug Fables (PC) was so much fun that I have also bought it on the Switch. We don't see often game like this. Crazy to think that only 4 persons (with the composer) have develop this game. Nintendo, take notes.
the only thing i've found in bug fables that's never explained [spoiler] is WHY the forsaken lands is so foggy everywhere and all the time. i've elected to say that the reason is that there's a human placed mini cooler behind the weeds surrounding the forsaken lands full of dry ice that's leaking

Not really spoilers, but hidden: There's a secret mode in the game that is a direct reference to a Paper Mario romhack where you don't get exp, but medals are only 1 MP. After beating the secret final challenge at the castle bridge, I'll pass on that, thank you.

i adored this game. I liked papermario but i wasnt a major fanboy over it, just thought it was a good game. Bug Fables though i kept finding myself coming back to and increasable difficult to pull myself away from. I will hype this game up every time i get a chance, i hope they get the success they need to continue with this world they created.
13:20 Did you edit those potions in for the fun of it? Because I beat this game before on hard and those weren't a thing. Also, if you think "hard" is hard, you have seen nothing yet. "Hardest" is where the difficulty becomes insane. I am actually close to facing boss of the bandits hide-out and I am terrified, because I can't use items against him and "Hardest" not only give enemies even more hp, it also futher boost their atk and defense.
Y'know that creepy Plague doctor looking guy in the wastelands who tells you that he has something for you if you come back later? Well he actually can reset and alter all your level boosts! They come in the form of those potions, each one is a level up for that stat! Also I know about Hardest, but frankly I'm too much of a coward to go through with it yet lol
@@TheHiddenChest Oh, I know him, but I never used his services. What I mean by that is that there are so many TP+ and Hp+ medals that I can easily customize my party's hp and TP, so I never bothered with reset. I take it he's the one giving those potions?
This game has some amazing music. I think my favorite so far is the duo where one hates you but the other likes you but can't let the other know. (You know who I just won't spoil it) Edit: Battle against [REDACTED], who has a tank is also great.
Bug Fables is what TTYD was to 64, It improves so much that it absolutely demolishes TTYD in nearly every aspect. Bug Fables is literally better than any Paper Mario game. Not even much of a competition.
I used to watch and for the most part enjoy this channel but something that always bothered me was constantly having to listen to The Hidden Chest refer to Paper Mario as “dead”. I can’t really explain why, that just always put me down. Especially after I got surprisingly excited for The Origami King’s announcement. I actually thought the game looked quite interesting fore it had a more unique story, an interconnected world, the return of partner characters and so on. It may not have been Mario’s Story again but I don’t think It was just Paper Mario either. From the way things were going, it seemed to have potential to be Paper Mario’s Story. But unfortunately, what felt like no one saw what I was seeing. Everyone I knew and looked up to on the internet such as you tubers like Arlo, Chuggaaconroy, the Bit Block, Mark Hanes, as well as their followers completely dismissed the game while also telling me that I shouldn’t care and should just play Bug Fables instead which resulted in me Developing a sense of resentment towards Bug Fables. And I don’t think that game deserves that. Judging by everyone’s enthusiasm for it, I’m sure it’s a great game. But right now, I just can’t bring myself to play it because every time I look at it, it just reminds me of the sense of isolation and loneliness I got leading up to Origami King’s release while I watched something I cared for get spat on as I was left squeaking in the corner, “Well I thought the game looked kinda cool”, and, “Well I still care about Paper Mario”, completely forgetting that no one cares what I think.
What were all of the Paper Mario-like games at the beginning? I know Underhero and the topic of the video is obviously Bug Fables, but I was wanting to know some other good games like Paper Mario

Sold me on this one, I just need the switch port or I'll accidentally play it when I try to do homework or study on my laptop
