For the same money as the higher end side by sides currently on the market, I would much rather have the Roxor. I work at a powersports dealer that sells everything and these Mahindras are built much stronger than anything else. It is hard to ignore the ability to spend less money on an older CJ that you can drive on the road, but there is a lot to be said about it being brand new, with a warranty, and having that turbo diesel.
aric lewis I am talking about utility sxs, not the turbo RZR or Maverick X3. Ranger 1000/Pro FX/Defender HD10 are $15-20k. Roxor is priced compeitive with those machines. Those are at the top end of the utility sxs market.
By modern tech I think he means the sound bar on the higher trim models lol. That's about the only tech on this thing, but that's what it's supposed to be, a bare bones tough truck.
Assembled in the USA from a big crate. I wish they could knock another few thousand off it and just send the crate to my door and I'll put it together myself.
I wouldn't say it's expensive because of the price tag. What makes it expensive is the fact that it only does 45 miles an hour. And it's illegal to get in it and drive it on the street that's what you get for $16,000 plus . And when you think about it that way it sounds pretty shity.
There are already aftermarket flashes for the ECU that lift the electronically-limited speed. One video has them getting it to almost 80mph on a 1/4 mile dyno, while making over 100 horsepower at the rear wheels. The little 2.5L turbo diesel is massively detuned in the ECU. It's got so much more potential than it's realizing because of the electronic detune. If you want to drive it on the street, go find an old rusting CJ, grab the VIN plate, put the VIN plate on the Roxor and register it as a CJ. Problem solved.
The US auto makers will fight to keep the street legal truck version out...cause they know it will sell!!! I hope to see it in the US in my lifetime...
Greg Lane if a golf cart can be street legal then a roxor can be legal just all lights emissions tires we need this to offset jeeps rising costs and less off road capabilitys
Im going to buy one tommorow.... I sold the two Rangers and one set of prospector tracks after blowing up the “front diff” in the 800. Jeep is pissed and trying to ban their sale in the US. Better get em while the getting is good. Not everyday you can buy a brand new Willys-Kaiser jeep with a diesel engine in it. And the axles? Take Dana 44 ring and pinion gears and locker units. Ridiculous value. Go try to restore an old Willys to new quality for the Roxor price.
Rockin M Ranch yea but a good used mid to late 90s Jeep can be bought for 5 to 7 grand running in good condition and street legal. Good used parts can be found in junkyard or bought brand new relatively cheap
chris spencer there’s several already. There’s a black LE at motor sports nation in Waterford, and a black one as well as a red one at Higgins power sports in Barre MA which isn’t a long drive away. They even have a good dirt trail you can test it on.. I know this because I did it.. just a warning, as a Connecticut resident myself I opted not to buy a Roxor specifically because of the difficulty for us to use them. That is if you intend to use it legally..If you have a large piece of private property go for it, but if you are are used to hauling UTVs out of state to use them you may want to do some research about your preferred trails.. The vast majority of Massachusetts and New Hampshire UTV trails don’t allow the Roxor because it is over the weight limit for a UTV registration. And unfortunately you can’t bring it on a lot of the OHV or jeep trails because it cannot be registered as a street legal vehicle either.. EDIT... motorsports Nation Waterford now has a Grey one as well.
These vehicles have been run for a zillion kms in really tough conditions, mountains at 6000 m plus, deserts, swamps, jungles, and rural roads, Mahindra knows what it is building.
I met a gentleman who pulls one of these behind his pickup truck camper ,boon docking rig.Has owned it for a year now.Absolutely loves it and said he smiles every time he gets behind the wheel.👍🏻
People are hating just because it is made by a Indian company and calling 3rd world country cant make real jeep. Guys who doesn't know thing outside USA.
I fully expect a road legal version in coming years. Keeping this thing off road reduces your potential customers drastically. Daimler Chrysler is going to have a serious problem at that point, or whoever owns the jeep moniker.
Off-road enthusiasts will love this thing! I just love the fact that it has 3 pedals! So hard to find just about anything with a manual anymore unless it's a musclecar, and even then it's a challenge. I love 5 speeds!
Looks like a fun ride. It's a real shame that the government over here is RAF and keeping this thing off road. It's laughable that all the jeep people wanna shit talk it when it's more of a jeep than the current jeeps. i'd have one of these over a sillyass side by side any day of the week.
+Lux yep but that out dated jeep is built stronger then these new jeeps thats for fucking sure they aint shit but pretty not work horses like they used to be the new ones suck
@@Easy-Eight Actually we Indians tried it in 1971 war in battle of longe wala against Pakistani armor. Two jeeps with recoilless gun managed to destroy three patton tanks by losing one Jeep
Klaus Van Heusen simple and basic like a WW2 era Jeep and similar is size. They basically are licensed to build what essential are designs from that era.
Adrian Wevers Back in the 50s, Mahindra had official license from Willys Overland to manufacture these great vehicles. The problem in the West is that, every brand is sold & purchased so many times that, every new buyer (manufacturer) dilutes the original & with that, dilutes the spirit of the original. In India, things remain the same for years. The same holds true for Royal Enfield Bullet Bikes (an iteration of the original British Enfield).
With a diesel in it, should be fairly simple to wickup the power a bit too. I see lots of aftermarket coming out in the future. These things are going to take off
Get in touch with Vivid racing once you buy one... They can remove the limit and boost up this thing. The Indian version shells out double the power. 120 Bhp. Get a lift kit and you can start crawling !
that diesel probably don't have to meet epa standards because it made for off road use and people trying to compare it to a jeep that is subject to all kinds of safety standards and epa standards.
So its got a turbo diesel, manual transmission, and solid axles whats not to love. Yah its over 15k just like damn near every new side by side and you cant drive it on the highway, just like every side by side. For those guys who love old school mechanical fun these should sell like hotcakes. Anyone who buys a 20k sxs pretty much knows 20k gets you a real bad ass off road truck but they still by side by sides so obviously the market demand is there. I give them props for making this and hope to see a work oriented pickup style in the future. Or just give us the cheap stripped diesel mahindra truck we were supposed to get 6-8 years ago.
GEORGE they're in the works right now, for an on road offroad type of set up. The only problem they face is where to sell it. I'll be buying one, the only thing I'd like to see on the future is as on's. Such better suspension side slider things like that.
Most side by sides are 60 or 64 inches wide so this at 62" fits right in there with all the common ones. Now there are "trail" side by sides that need to be under 50" which there are only about 4, the most common and longest running a Polaris RZR. So no it's not a "trail" size which was established for ATVs in the first place, but it is a standard SxS width.
The one being sold here in India is the Mahindra Thar. I would say, Roxor is the "export version" of the Thar lol. Both machines are absolute beasts! I own a Mahindra Thar and she is a badass!!
I think it is cool. It is better for work than a side by side by far and would be great for hunting. In the winter you could put a decent size plow on it and run chains if you had to. If they added wipers, heated cab/doors, cooilant heater for cold mornings, PTO and la locking diff it would sell very well to farmers.
The price is a big problem, most farmers around here pick up used mini trucks from Japan or buy up older Suzuki Samurai or Sidekicks and Chev Tackers for dirt cheap and run them into the ground doing chores around the farm, they usually have a small Honda foot shift ATV with a solid rear axle for smaller jobs.
davidbrennan5 well this is new in market.. i say wait some good 5years then u can get this thing for a really good price in 2nd hand market. Its bit unfair to be honest as mahindra do sell a fully loaded soft top cab, heater and ac, proper dash, music player.. no limit on engine all that for about the same price in india if not less (under $15 grand) Its called mahindra ‘Thar’ Probably the import duty add to the cost of this as its assembled in america not manufactured. Some parts might get manufactured there which are specific to US market rest come from India.. May b its just because i am indian i feel like mahindra is ripping off.
crashandburnbirner or just buy used mid 90s Jeep for around 5 to 6 grand ready to put in road heat ac I don't know that makes more sense to me even if you don't put it on the street 5 or 6 grand vs 15 grand who would be smarter the person that paid 5 grand or 15 grand 🤔
once my cousin took me in this on a hunting trip with a straight rock hill and i thought the hunt is over. but the roxor straight up climbed the hill, that was impressive
VH2015 just get you a used mid 90s Jeep already ready to put on the road or street legal for 5 or six grand vs 15grand that you have to pull to the trail
Great review, didn't think I'd rather this than a traditional side by side, but you changed my mind. I think this IS more for me. Was wondering if the differentials were open, limited slip or locking?
This vehicle has a lot of potential I think. For one IT ISN'T A WRETCHED AMC or Chrysler product. I see these UTVs out there with four seats that cost 8-10 grand easy, and this thing is actually useful, not a toy. It has a real liquid-cooled and full-pressure lubrication diesel engine in it, not some aircooled splash-lubed gasoline burner. It also has a real geared standard transmission with a real suspension. It is basically the Willys WWII Jeep which was the best vehicle to ever carry that name. Every CJ I've ever had the misfortune of being around has been a non-stop problem, mostly because they were poorly engineered/poorly manufactured cars when they were new. Add in a few decades of decay and you get a hunk of junk that sits in your yard and provides an excellent rabbit habitat but not much else. Wranglers are outrageously expensive, and it doesn't take long when you start working on one to realize they are absolute garbage, especially if you have one with those awful Renix electrical systems. The AMC I-6 was an ok engine, but it wont be able to deliver the low speed torque or efficiency of this modern Mahindra diesel. An ag-model with a pto would BE the finest vehicle for pulling a hay baler or hay wagons around. It would also make a great vehicle for a rancher or grazier.
This is the configuration that would suit my needs. Tire package, winch package, roof should be a hartop. tow hitch, windshield with intermittent wipers and a heater with windshield defrost. mirrors, cab, signals, horn. The ROXOR needs to fit northern climates for all seasons use. Suitable for off road and can be driven on road in Ontario, Canada. More for local or short trip driving. Not sure how good the radio is but it would be a nice added feature if it can do what a typical AM/FM radio can do and that means bringing in clear radio signal. Keep it simple, user friendly and minimize the bling. Not fond of bright colors but olive green, navy grey, and/or camo.
Kenny Rider. my thoughts too.fashion a 3 point hitch with a electrichydrolic lift, ( had made one on our '65 cj5 ) hang a orange triangle on it and call it a tractor and head down the road.
See how far you get , SMV are for tractors and you will get a ticket , I know from experience. My dad put one on a old farm truck that i was taking to the field and I got the ticket from state patrol .
@@toledojeeper2932 SMV signs are for anything going 25 mph or slower. Tractors that go faster than that don't have them. I see them on cars following cyclists running on the highway (at slow speed.)
This is one bad ass side by side. It can pull my pop up camper with no problem. I use it all the time around my camp site hauling fire wood, riding trails, or going to get water from the spring with a 200 gallon tank on a flat bed trailer.
Great review, thank you. Overall they're great, but yep, they do ride a little rough, they are speed limited, but they're not meant for flying down the freeway LOL. Funny they don't really cost much more than today's ATV's and UTV's. If I were in the market this is what I'd go with, the manual transmission and transfer case, the diesel engine, solid axles, no CVT, exactly what I want...and if they do come out with a version that has a PTO, I'd be much more apt to purchase.
I owned a 62 jeep CJ-3 , best off road vehicle I ever owned. I built trails in Co. at 9,000 ft, and skidded full grown ponderosa pine logs full size logs down a mountain side slope on a zigzag trail I made in a 62 jeep with a small 4 cylinder (it was a steep slope). The High and low speed for each gear was amazing , low was so low you could let it idle in gear and it would climb straight up a mountain, you could get out and walk next to it on flat land. The PTO would run a winch up front, there was a throttle nob you could pull out to set the rpm. This Roxor looks very much like the unstoppable CJ3. I want one.
If only there was a 4 seat long utility bed😕 with like a tough diamond plate bed about 4-5’, it would fill such a good role. At my work we have a few kawasaki mules that are great but they can’t tow enough and there way too slow especially with tracks
Put a windshield, blinkers, mirrors, a license plate light on it, find an old rusted out basket case CJ, take the VIN plate, put the VIN plate on the Roxor and register it as a CJ. Street legal in every state.
This is damn near a Suzuki samurai.. for 15 grand. Horsepower is almost identical, it does have more torque beings as it’s a diesel, but the samurai is also legal to drive on road, and is typically a fraction of the cost.
Hard to compare a 20year old samurai to a BRAND new Roxor. I am excited to see the aftermarket offerings for these. I hope they get some better suspension travel and some Lockers
Samurai is 79.9" wb (18" shorter), 60.6" wide (1.4" narrower) and curb weight just over 2000lbs (1000 lbs lighter) Roxor is way way closer to a CJ-7/YJ
tommy harrell wasn’t meant to be a completely specific comparison. Both are relatively the same size, both have similar suspension set ups, both use exclusively a manual transmission, and both have anemic horsepower outputs. The samurai is just far more economical.
That is literally the side x side i've been dreaming of. Never liked the CVT transmissions and computer controlled gadgets. A manual, diesel, 4x4 jeep just bare bones. That is exactly what one of these should be.
I'm in Agriculture and have been running a fleet of Polaris's for about 10 years now. Without even driving it, I would tell you I'd drop polaris machines like a hotcake for Roxor's if they would simply supply a hard cab for the thing. IT NEEDS A REAL CAB!
I want 1 soooooooo bad. Hopefully they don’t start getting greedy & cheap them up. The one I looked at was 1 of the first 300. & it was a beast. Nothing cheap or weak. Love it
I think the savings grace for Roxor would be a new powerplant for the Cj5. Weight is close between the two but Americans have tons of replacement parts for body, suspension and drive train upgrades. We need a great Cj5 engine drop in,
Oh enough about the tires! Dropping $18k on a toy, tires aren't the biggest worry. I was going to say why don't the jeep companies make a stripped down, cheap version anymore. Until you mentioned the price. Even this thing is $18k. Imagine a road worthy? Forget that. 4 wheeler companies are just out to rip us off.
I just bought a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited with 26,000 for $13,000. It's in very good condition with ice cold air conditioning and a inline 6. Its completely at home off road and I daily drive it as well.
I'm 62, getting over stage 3 lung cancer, (BEAT IT), live in a small town with pkenty of access to off roading. The roxor is easily converted for street. Think when I get back to work I just may reward myself with one. I plain out like it. I was a tractor and equipment mechanic back when the mahindra tractors were first sold in the US. Never had any problems out of them other than a few loose bolts. They make good machinary.
Thank you for pronouncing Willys correctly. I wish other videos would have watched yours first. Hopefully they will learn of their mistake. Thanks again!
There's something to be said about reliability sure you'll get smoked all day everyday buy razors but what kind of shape is that razor going to be in in 15 20 30 years
A true work vehicle operates pretty much the opposite of a performance vehicle, as far as shifting and power delivery. This thing is a work machine, not a sports machine. Very cool, if you're just trying to get around and get work done.
You love that heavy meaty feeling in your hands don’t you!! Lol I think these are a cool way to get an old Jeep that’s brand new with a good motor.with some lockers a lift and ditch the speed limiter this could be an awesome way to get a cool old school 4x4 that’s not covered in rust and a great starting point to customize! Thanks for the review👍🏿
Lux You have the choice: either you pay less, either you get it built locally. If you wanna pay less, then it's going to be an imported thing built in India. If you want it to be built locally in America, then you're going to be paying more. Thing is, if it would have been imported and built in India, people would complain that it's made in India and that it's been made by underpaid people, and when they finally get products to be built in America, then they complain that it's expensive. You can't have both. And, to be fair, this is very reasonnably priced. It's probably going to last very long, it's actually new, and it can be beaten a lot more than a TJ without suffering damage. I mean, a decent CJ-5/CJ-7 is probably going to cost about the same, and while it will be road legal, it won't be new, have a warranty, or be as capable to deal with trouble as much as that thing. You have to remember that a CJ-5/CJ-7 is already 40 years old.
Mahindra has history of jeeps and has best record in India in jeeps whether engine sturdiness or maintenance unbeatable in commercial mini segments too
Diesel... mechanical ... Manual transmission ... no stupid tricks... And most importantly - "my complete control" over it ... ❤️

It is hard to ignore the ability to spend less money on an older CJ that you can drive on the road, but there is a lot to be said about it being brand new, with a warranty, and having that turbo diesel.
Aaron Fink higher end? You mean a base model sxs
Higher end models are 25-30 grand
aric lewis I am talking about utility sxs, not the turbo RZR or Maverick X3. Ranger 1000/Pro FX/Defender HD10 are $15-20k. Roxor is priced compeitive with those machines. Those are at the top end of the utility sxs market.
You could always buy a CJ and put this engine in or one of the new Cummins 4 cylinders

silentThunder to funny and true
Do search for retail of other non-street legal offering you will be surprised
The US auto makers will fight to keep the street legal truck version out...cause they know it will sell!!! I hope to see it in the US in my lifetime...

Rockin M Ranch did you end up getting one?
Roxor is best because Mahendra tried to save Jeep improving Speed with Turbo engine and preservation Old attitude of Jeep
Why would this effect Jeep , it's not street legal .
Rockin M Ranch yea but a good used mid to late 90s Jeep can be bought for 5 to 7 grand running in good condition and street legal. Good used parts can be found in junkyard or bought brand new relatively cheap
Are you sure you can use Dana parts, especially lockers?????
As soon as I find one of these available in Connecticut, I WILL be buying one!
chris spencer there’s several already.

Can't take it on ATV/UTV 55" trails
.. Unlike a SxS
These are street legal in Montana.
Yeah, but montana is awsome, where alot of other states arent...
I heard of someone who got it legal in N.C.
The one being sold here in India is the Mahindra Thar. I would say, Roxor is the "export version" of the Thar lol. Both machines are absolute beasts! I own a Mahindra Thar and she is a badass!!
When zombie apocalypse or dooms day, i like this vehicle to be there in my inventory.
I wish this guy would review every single thing in the world! He makes you feel like you know everything about it- without question! Bravo
Then it would cost $25,000 and still be a piece of shit
The price is a big problem, most farmers around here pick up used mini trucks from Japan or buy up older Suzuki Samurai or Sidekicks and Chev Tackers for dirt cheap and run them into the ground doing chores around the farm, they usually have a small Honda foot shift ATV with a solid rear axle for smaller jobs.
davidbrennan5 well this is new in market.. i say wait some good 5years then u can get this thing for a really good price in 2nd hand market.
Its bit unfair to be honest as mahindra do sell a fully loaded soft top cab, heater and ac, proper dash, music player.. no limit on engine all that for about the same price in india if not less (under $15 grand)
Its called mahindra ‘Thar’
Probably the import duty add to the cost of this as its assembled in america not manufactured. Some parts might get manufactured there which are specific to US market rest come from India..

I want one.

This is damn near a Suzuki samurai.. for 15 grand. Horsepower is almost identical, it does have more torque beings as it’s a diesel, but the samurai is also legal to drive on road, and is typically a fraction of the cost.
That was my thought as well - just bought one this week after looking at SXS prices and nearly puking.
Check the dimensions, it's way closer to a cj-7 or YJ than a samurai.
Hard to compare a 20year old samurai to a BRAND new Roxor. I am excited to see the aftermarket offerings for these. I hope they get some better suspension travel and some Lockers
Samurai is 79.9" wb (18" shorter), 60.6" wide (1.4" narrower) and curb weight just over 2000lbs (1000 lbs lighter)
Roxor is way way closer to a CJ-7/YJ
tommy harrell wasn’t meant to be a completely specific comparison. Both are relatively the same size, both have similar suspension set ups, both use exclusively a manual transmission, and both have anemic horsepower outputs. The samurai is just far more economical.

I think the savings grace for Roxor would be a new powerplant for the Cj5. Weight is close between the two but Americans have tons of replacement parts for body, suspension and drive train upgrades. We need a great Cj5 engine drop in,
