I used to go to this mall as a little kid, at one point it was decently full. Now whenever I go revisit it, only a few things remain. I live in Kentucky now but that mall will always be home for me.
When I was growing up the 90's, 00's, we used to call it the SWAP. It is pretty much like a swap meet. In the 90's it was already kind of dead, but it probably had like at least 75% or more of the stores open. I used to go there with my friends to hang out. I got to see multiple movies there and play at the arcade that was right next to the cinema. Good memories.
I would have never thought the mall would appear on the account! The mall is my favorite place to go to even if it’s dead. It’s amazing more when there’s a event happening there! Amazing little place :)
This was my neighborhood mall and for my Jr. High self in the early 80s it rocked! Montgomery Ward’s for vinyl records, Walgreen’s and it’s restaurant next door for the best onion rings, Stuart’s for the latest 80s fashions, Aladdin’s Castle for Ms. Pac Man and Donkey Kong, and of course the movie theater. We could walk there and be totally independent from our parents. Damn! I miss those days.
I wish that this mall became more busy, I live literally two blocks away from there. My family and I used to go there on several occasions when I was little. The last time I was there was two Sundays ago, that's a first in a long time that I set foot there. What's been killing many of their former businesses there is competition from nearby malls of Gurnee and Vernon Hills, as well as a lot of crime in the area
I grew up in the nearby colonial park apartments in the 70's. The Belvidere Mall was the place to be. My parents knew the owner of Mike's Restaurant. We ate there all the time.
I was born in Waukegan but my family and me moved out of state when I was 6 (I’m 18 now) so it’s so cool to be able to see all this!! My mom watched this with me and she said she remembers all of this since she lived there almost half her life!!!
I wonder if there’s enough footage and old photographs posted for you to take us on a virtual tour of Lakehurst? I know the mall itself is gone, but the old Child World toy store is still standing and it was a gorgeous place to shop.
If you search Lakehurst Mall on youtube there is some guy who got an interior walkthrough with a security guard and filmed the deserted mall right before they bulldozed it.
Live 5 minutes from....now, a busy place when Montgomery Wards and Walgreens were open in the 70’s...Walgreens actually had a food grill here. My mom worked there...Lakehurst killed it
i was 10 when it opened in nov. '65 and we lived on belvidere st. by glen rock. anyone know what ever happened to the "historic" round restaurant that was moved from the corner of belvidere and lewis and sat abandoned on green bay rd for many years?
Those unoccupied kiosks need to go. The mall would look so much better without them. They could even move all of the kiosks into storefronts to make the mall look fuller. I live in the Houston area and we have 2 dead malls that have been converted similarly to this one. One of those malls is nearly full, and the other one is dying, barely hanging onto the last anchor Sears.
At the far west end, there was a Grocery store that I worked at when I was In my early 20's. When this mall opened, it was a HUGE draw!! Everyone went there!!!
I used to buy hoodie and sweatpant combo there, they had the most comfy ones. Id smoke cigarettes while doing it too. Lol. And im not talking the 70's Im talking 2001-2002.

Really. Wish I could've seen when it was busier I've only seen it once other time before 2 years ago.
I live near there, and the only place I see most people at is in that little place where corn and snacks are sold
Where in the mall is that I don't remember seen that.
Yeah I know I live around there too.
Urbex- A Peak Inside as soon as you enter to the right after the chicken restaurant
Same

I miss the cinema, that and the one in Zion. With the Coronavirus outbreak, it was the final nail in the coffin for many in the world
I grew up 80s several blocks away, spend lots of time at alladin's arcade
I only go there for the corn 🌽
I would have never thought the mall would appear on the account! The mall is my favorite place to go to even if it’s dead. It’s amazing more when there’s a event happening there! Amazing little place :)
Thanks for checking it out. I also have 1st one but it's a silent visit so no narration.
Really cool. I really like those small malls like that. For some reason the floors and walls remind me of a high school.
Right it looks like a big version of a brand new high school.
That’s Waukegan for you
I actually live like 15 minutes away from there, I haven’t been there for like 3 years though
Still has some good places to go to. Check it out.
Me too.

My uncle used to sell t-shirts at the first little stand in the center right by the main entrance. Good memories.
Love the old floors in this place. Great job!
Thanks. It probably the original when it was built.
Come back around when there's a Wauk the Mall art walk. I've been opening the Cinema - we showed Night of the Living Dead last weekend.
I left waukegan in 1999. Wow that place use to be pack. Lakehurst mall was the shit.
I still go to that mall surprised it isn't closed by now
I grew up in the nearby colonial park apartments in the 70's. The Belvidere Mall was the place to be. My parents knew the owner of Mike's Restaurant. We ate there all the time.
Wagman's drive-in was in this location before the mall opened. I stopped going there after Wards left. The last time I was in the mall was about 2007.

My grandpa worked in the wards appliance department there for years. I have many fond memories of the mall.
...there was a Hickory Farm's store in the wing near the movie theater,,,,
Lol I live here and that flea market is like a zombie, it’s dead but for some reason it’s still standing
thanks for posting this.
I'm actually surprised that Belvidere Mall Lived that long. I wonder why Lakehurst Mall got out of business but not Belvidere Mall.
Tiny businesses have been stubborn In that mall. And many others come and go
Thank you

That's an interesting thought. I bet there is and I was planning on maybe doing that...also with Randhurst which used to be an enclosed mall.
Urbex- A Peak Inside This is a good video of randhurst mall ruclips.net/video/HUM4IkyBXtg/видео.html

Agreed. They seemed as to take up
unnecessary space.
Just walked through it today, I fucking love Waukegan
Hurts to see it so empty, when I used to go it was full to the brim and they would even do ancient aztec ritual shows
When I was a kid in the early 70" s we use to go there place was always busy Thanks for the video

At the far west end, there was a Grocery store that I worked at when I was In my early 20's. When this mall opened, it was a HUGE draw!! Everyone went there!!!
Good memories of movie theatre from late 90s early 2000s
Now I want to go there lol, me and my family go there rarely
Its a nice place. There is a restaurant there that looks promising.

They have pretty good food
I go here sometimes
Bought my 8th grade dance dress here 😅
They still have a lot of cool dress places there.
Why call a mall in Waukegan "Belvidere"? That could be confusing.
Interesting. I always think of that TV show Mr. Belvedere.
Gee, I wonder if could have anything at all to do with the mall being located on Belvidere street in Waukegan? Stupid level eleven out of ten?
@@UrbexAPeakInside Did you do any basic research at all? Like look at what street the mall is on?
In making this channel, It works with everyone to have thoughtful and meaningful discussions while treating each other with mutual respect. Please respect these rules.
The street is named after the mall actually.
I live near there and eat my elote
🚔

Now Waukegan has nothing fun
That mall sucked.
Ghetto as hell. Even smells like rot.
This mall is so ugly and it’s in the ghetto which sucks
Gee, wonder why the mall closed?
@@peaceonearth8693 it’s not closed
