    As someone who has repaired rust damage for 45+ years, I feel your unspoken pain related to that surprise rust damage. I also recognize the project size increase with every new discovery like the layered (uneven areas). I call it unplanned project expansion and have never been a fan of this unwelcome aspect of any serious project. Great job, thanks for keeping us all in the loop.

    Sylvie and Yvan start a new reality show on renovating the bus! So many talents you both have and with time will be a wonderful new home! I am hooked for the next episode.

      Making these videos takes enough time as is, and we wouldn’t make a good reality show, we don’t argue..

    I thought your conversion was going to be easier than starting with a seated bus because a lot of this work would be done for you. But you are actually spending more time fixing things that were done wrong than if you did it from scratch. But you are getting a lot of good conversion stuff out of it - tanks, generator, inverters, batteries, windows, etc.
    Yours is actually the 3rd conversion on this bus. The commercial converter did one, then someone bought it and started a reno on it and now you guys are doing a real reno.

      Starting with a seated bus would have been slightly more difficult ( removing a MCI bathroom is an adventure. This bus has a 9 inch roof raise. And as you mentioned what came with the bus made it a good investment.

      @@LacroixCruiser Can you please shoot some video of how the roof raise was done ?

    can t stop metal to rust but with you know to maintain it can last longer

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  4 года назад

      We are removing the rusted metal where it’s structural and replacing it. On the side sheet metal it’s really only surface rust, so we are not concerned about it.

    Yvan: Probably not easy to do, but it would be really cool if you could add an elapsed time display to the video segments where a lot of work is being compressed into a short amount of time, such as the sanding of the side of the bus. If that’s too much trouble, perhaps at the end of the segment you could just put a text with the amount of time this work actually took.

    Great job, I thought when you cut out that first window... “he did not cut the corner round”... guess you caught that.. my MCI suffered from leaky windows too. They were the factory windows and similar to yours, there were gaps at the top where water was getting in. Not sure if someone messed with them over the years or if MCI (actually TMC) built them that way. TMC’s was MCIs company in Roswell, New Mexico and they made the 102a3’s there.

    Those windows looked like they weren’t held in by much - were you tempted to remove and re-seat the windows you weren’t moving just to make sure they were installed correctly?

    You said you were going to get the bus inspected before you tackled the rear windows. Did that happen ?

      Not yet, there is a backlog due to the pandemic. It’s getting inspected next week.

    How much difference do you think there is between a 102DL3, a 102EL "Renaissance", an E4500 and a J4500 as far as construction goes ?
    Is the skin on your DL3 actually steel ? Or is it SS ? What about on the newer models ?

      I’ve never seen one up close, someone else will need to answer that unfortunately.

    If I had two Sylvies I could rule the world 😉. Couple of things, (don’t take this the wrong way) you guys are about my age, my grandmother died young, in her fifties, Sylvie looks very much like her and her sisters. She was also an extremely hard worker like Sylvie. My family is mainly from England and Scotland and Ireland but I have dna matches all over. Never know, we may be related. 😁
    The tube framing looks like it would cause thermal bridging. Could you drill holes in it and spray foam in there or would even be worth it? I guess it would still conduct through edges? I wonder what can be improved and when I think of something I’ll post it but I’m sure it’s already been thought of. 😕
    I had mentioned earlier that I wanted to pick tour brain and you graciously agreed with your email address. I will not do that at this time as I know you are super busy. I’ll continue to watch and maybe converse with you after you finish up. Awesome team you two make and fantastic work. Thanks for sharing your work with us!

      Definitely she’s a dynamo. Being raised on a farm with 6 brothers taught her to be tough and work hard.
      We already sprayed the inside of the tubing with foam in a previous episode to help with noise. We will be adding more insulation on top to help with thermal bridging.

    After using the rust converter, do you use a product like POR (Paint Over Rust), or does the product you are using do the same thing? Also, does the rust converter you are using have to be sealed with some other coating, like paint? Thanks.

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  4 года назад

      It acts as a primer, it can be left uncoated if needed

    Is that an MCI thing to have regular steel rust like that? Are they different from Prevosts which I believe are all stainless or aluminum on the exterior?

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  4 года назад +1

      Most of the exterior is Aluminum. As far as rusting , they all do in some areas, they are never all Stainless or Aluminum, there’s always some steel or iron somewhere, and moisture always finds it.
