The great thing about these stage shows is that they are such a stable income for actors who might not otherwise be able to support themselves onstage. I have a lot of friends who really enjoyed their time performing at Disney, Universal, and other theme parks.

A lot of the performers at Universal still talk about the 'Great acting purge' of the early 2000's. When the actors tried to unionize, (which they were able to do in Hollywood, by the way) Universal Orlando cruelly laid almost all of them off. Roaming versions of Charlie Chaplin, The Marx Brothers, Marilyn Monroe, Luci and Ricky Ricardo, Count Dracula, Frankenstein, Mae West, W.C. Fields, Beetlejuice, The Ghostbusters, and Harry from Harry and the Hendersons... all gone almost overnight. They did eventually bring some of these characters back, but never to the amount they had in the beginning. Very sad indeed for all these talented actors.

Yeah thats scary ASF. Imagine graduating 3 different schools that were free, then going to school to be a teacher where you had to pay to be there, graduating that school, and then going back in the same school after graduating to work and be paid to be there teaching kids half your age the same things you just finished learning the previous year(s). It's like an Orwellian nightmare. No way.

It’s funny that they used the Extreme Ghostbusters for that second street show but none of the performers look anything like the characters from that cartoon series. The Extreme Ghostbusters had a female member and a man that was wheelchair bound. It was actually a good follow up the the real Ghostbusters cartoon.

I have to say, I get very frustrated with Universal and them replacing rides. When I was young, I went there in the 90s and got to enjoy all of the original rides. I went back when I was in college, and most of the rides I loved were gone. I think at the time the only ones left were Earthquake (which I still can't believe lasted for as long as it did) Jaws, and ET. People may get frustrated with Disney when they close rides and replace them, but at least a lot of the greats remain or are updated. Universal feels like a completely different park now. I went on the Twister...thing when I went back in college and it was pretty lame. Especially since it was replacing this amazing show. Twister was basically a "show" combined with a wind tunnel. This reason is why I enjoy Disney more than Universal.

You have to be aware that Universal doesn't own all the movies these attractions are based on and they can only have them standing for as long as the contract for the licensing is good.
For instance, Universal can have their Marvel rides and shops in Islands of Adventure for as long as that license is good (what they negotiated prior to Disney's buyout of Marvel) BUT once it's over, the Marvel characters will be seen in Disney theme parks only! Of course, Universal will make the money they can now with what they have rights to BUT when the license is up, all those rides and attractions will have to go down or be repurposed. I would imagine they'd rename the Hulk rollercoaster but the 3-D Spider-Man ride will probably be removed.
That's just the name of the game. For the moment, the license agreement covers the Florida parks only... By agreement, Disney CANNOT use the characters licensed to Universal-Orlando in the Disneyworld Theme Parks. Disney DOES have Marvel sections in the California park and the Hong Kong resort. That could always change if Universal decides the Marvel section is not worth the licensing but for the time being if you want something other than Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Captain America, the classic Avengers (Thor, Iron Man), the Hulk, and X-Men make their home at Universal Orlando.
The other reality is to keep people coming back to the park AND to attract new visitors, they have to revitalize on occasion. Disney faces the same problems in its parks, too. That inevitably means some of the old attractions will have to come down and they can use the excuse of declining attendance, maintenance issues, or license lapses to make changes.
I do agree that there are certain things like Haunted Mansion at Disney or the Alfred Hitchcock experience at Universal which should never go. Maybe, occasionally they should get a facelift or new technology applied but some things should never be removed. The Back to the Future ride at Universal was fantastic but they felt it outlived its purpose until they reboot that franchise or an exec decides to give BTF another chance at an attraction. Likewise, not everybody like the changes for the revised Star Tours ride which is already in its second revision with additions from the last 2 numbered Star Wars films. The Tower of Terror survived at Orlando because of fan uproar and disgust at what they did to the California version of that ride so sometimes a little fan protest will make the park overseers rethink their decisions.

Another great episode, glad I got to see this one before it closed. Also, Hi-C Ecto Cooler, forgot what it tasted like.
Going to suggest The Fun-tastic World of Hannah Barbera once more, if I recall it was very close to this attraction.

Lime-flavored Hi-C juice. There was also, naturally, a upswing in green gelatin, due to its consistancy with the ectoplasmic goo that the ghosts - chiefly Slimer - are made of, plus the iconic slime of Nickelodeon.

Just random and has nothing to do with the extreme ghostbusters cartoon. Said cartoon featured a man in a wheelchair, a female ghost buster who looked a bit like the animated version of lydia from beetlejuice and 2 other busters.

Eric Ratcliffe that was a cheap knock off that has nothing to do with the real ghost busters

    • @kingboobs20
      @kingboobs20 6 лет назад +12

@Mike K False, it was actually a continuation of the original cartoon, and a lot of the same creative talent behind that show worked on it.
I know the "extreme" part is a bit dated today, but it was actually a pretty cool show that had even more terrifying ghosts than the original, and having it revolve around a new cast was a risky idea but it actually worked. I love the concept of the original Ghostbusters passing the torch to a new generation, which is what they should have done with the third movie but oh well.

The Ghostbuster ride... the worst attraction when my family went to Universal. They crammed us all into a tight room, no one could hear a thing over the actor not talking loud enough, and some people even began to get sick. my father almost took us out but an attendant begged him to stay. We did, the main show was fine, but my father read the actors the riot act over them having no AC in the room, delaying us an extra 10 minutes (we found out they had tech issues) and not telling anyone what was going on.

This video brought back memories of my first visit to universal in the 90's. I was a young kid maybe around 10 years old when I first went and did the Ghostbusters attraction. I went when they had the changes and I got picked during the pre show and was the one who had to hold the slime. I remember the guy telling me not to let it fall and to keep moving it around in my hands. He would then ask how I was doing during the rest of the show and add more and more. The slime felt more like that old nickelodeon gak stuff from that time and I had so much on the floor lol. Oh how I miss this.

I found it enjoyable, too. The GB comic series Ghostbusters 101 actually connect OG GB with this new one, making it canon via when the prime 'Busters defeated Gozer, it spread the essence of Ghostbusters across several parallel dimensions, so the ideas, faces, etc of that prime dimension bled into other alternate worlds, or perhaps just that particular dimension. I personally don't call it a 'reboot', more or less the alternate dimension Ghostbusters :D

I saw the first version of this shortly after Universal Orlando opened, and it was a mess. Like everything in the park at that time, nothing worked right and things were constantly breaking down.
I remember that as soon as the ghostbuster actors ran out on stage, something with the animatronics messed up and the lights went up. The actors didn't say a word, they just immediate marched off the stage like they were used to it. Between that and most other rides breaking down constantly, and the generally rude staff and unprofessional carnival atmosphere, I still haven't gone back to Universal to this day. I'm happy with Disneyworld.
