@Leonard05 Chirps are programmable as are tones. It can do it easy. This particular XTS3000 has MODAT, which is what you're hearing when it transmits. MODAT is a flash feature and this XTS3000 just happens to have it.
MODAT was originally intended for the ASTRO Saber portables - but because they're practically same FLASHPort wise, (and basically the same radio, in a fatter housings ) the FLASHPort options carry over to the 3k, and so forth.
@JuliettWhiskeyNiner Theres really very few stupid questions and that certainly wasn't one. I ask them all the time, lol. If we never asked them we'd never know and I asked that last week, lol. Unfortunately the don't. I wish they did because I have Li-ion's in Warris. The contacts on a Warris battery are a little lower. Whats funny is, an XTS2500 battery WILL work on a Warris radio. You just have to use a Jedi/XTS charger. The clips are interchangable.
@Leonard05 I have one Model III 2500 in VHF from China with tags but they don't tell you they swapped boards (it WAS a Q-split UHF according to the back tag) and some are only four meg. It was also upgraded but upgraded is fine if you have someone who knows his stuff doing it with the proper equipment. I have one and its fine, it was $430 and 4-meg is fine with me but if you do trunking you will want to go with 8-meg. Go with one with tags and you should be fine ;)
@Leonard05 I wouldn't get one from Hong Kong with no tags. Those radios have a hard past from what I have heard. Accellerated Life Testing, plant fire, they survived that but, really, would you want that? I'd pass on them and get legit ones that passed quality control and got their tags ;)
@Leonard05 Many of the tagless radios came without tags due to the fact that they were in a Motorola plant overseas that burnt down. Word is that some were in ACL testing but Moto didn't tag them because thats done ONLY after quality-Control. Moto sold them as surplus scrap from what I understand and while they "look" new, theres no telling what they have been through. If they passed QC the tags would be there. Noone removed them because they were never on to begin with.........
Last question, I want a radio that "chirps" from what I read that's called AFSK data or MDC-1200 sounds and it's the modern sound you hear. Modat is obsolete. Question does the 2500 and 3k have that?
Thanks for the info, I'm looking to buy 6 of these for my business. Do you think 6 used with no tags and from hong Kong on eBay $500each would be ok for a person to person setup?
Wow I didn't know that about those radios. They look like they had tags and someone removed them. Is the 3k III an older mod? Why so cheap even with tags?
@Leonard05 Their lowball price reflects that and most are sold by the buyers within a year or two. Its hit and miss and always guesswork. Ones with tags that are legit (even if not matchng due to conversion to a Model III because of the number change.......flashcode. The 2500's do MCD1200. MODAT I believe is what you heard and you're right, its obsolete for the most part. 2500's with tags run over 700 bucks unless they are from Hong Kong/China. 3k's do MDC fine as well.
@Leonard05 Its kind of like hiring someone for a very important and difficult job who would not give a filled-out job application and you just took their word because they were dressed nice, lol.
@snarlingrabiddog5150 I check with several Motorola dealers and called Motorola depot and all said that Modat can not be flashed into the XTS series radios? Very strange? I wonder how your radio has that option?
@Leonard05 Just be VERY choosey and ask the seller questions. If they don't answer, don't buy. You get what you pay for on radios if the right questions are asked. You'll be money ahead in the long-run and happier :)
These radios are used by corporations, hobby fellas, EMS, fire, police, construction workers, the military, farmers, secutiry teams and private security companies, you name it. I sell these radios and have my own radio shop. The bulk of my sales is to public safety, but they have never been restricted for that use only. Welcome to the channel! :)
Deputy Prepper These radios are maximum 5-watt radios. The line of sight range is 1 mile. You'd need a repeater system, trunked network or external power amp to go long range. To operate a 5 watt radio you need an FCC license. These radios are mainly designed for use with infrastructure.
Deputy Prepper I don't think much of the Baofeng radios. I think there are much better and more sturdy radios out there. I can't really tell you what you would be better off with because I really don't know your situation. If you're going radio to radio, the range is going to be 5 watts or less regardless of brand in most cases. To go long range requires repeaters, amplification of signal apparatus and money, along with all the paperwork of the FCC.
....enough quantity of units to buy and contract with them, Motorola will do anything you want at the sky-high price they will charge; much like the APX line they are shilling now. I liken their responses to their client base to the guy in the movie Spinal Tap; "...but these go to eleven." ;)
Anyone you talk to that is a part of the "Corporation" will never help you.....trust me; I've dealt with them for over a decade. The LAPD used MODAT-enabled radios for that tone. Motorola won't flash it now because MODAT is no longer used by most agencies and is no longer viable for Motorola to sell, carry or service. Their prices on XTS5000 parts tripled after they discontinued the units. If you want your radio to have that or anything else on a unit, if you have enough money, a large...

Quick question from across the pond in TETRA land; does the XTS2500 take Warris batteries or am I asking a stupid question?

I hear on the 2500 has no chirp. Is that in the programing? Why did one radio announce you where about to talk and the 2500 didn't.

@snarlingrabiddog5150
What is the audible tone that goes over the air from the XTS5000 at 4:07 ??
Is that MODAT I'm hearing coming from your XTS3000 ?
Wow I didn't know that about those radios. They look like they had tags and someone removed them. Is the 3k III an older mod? Why so cheap even with tags?
@Cbluboi01 I know, lol. Thats the idea :P Everyone should have one who uses a two-way!
Let me know if you ever have one for sale that has the Modat feature

Will the 2500 do motorola smartnet trunking
Do you have any ht1250 radios with a full keypad
I don't know. I'm not crazy about tones. The LAPD used it years ago. Batlabs or P25 forums is your best bet for a valid answer and price quote.
@snarlingrabiddog5150
Can both the 3000 and 2500 be flashed for that and is it expensive?
@Leonard05 Its kind of like hiring someone for a very important and difficult job who would not give a filled-out job application and you just took their word because they were dressed nice, lol.
@snarlingrabiddog5150

@Galactiguy Yep they did. They are still in the dark ages as far as radio communications go though.
@Leonard05 Just be VERY choosey and ask the seller questions. If they don't answer, don't buy. You get what you pay for on radios if the right questions are asked. You'll be money ahead in the long-run and happier :)
@martian133 I could use that. I've seen that in the CPS but 244 pages would give my printer a fit, lol.
MODAT. It has to be in the flash I believe
@mbnv99234 lol, yeah
what do you use these for, I though they were for law enforcement only

Thanks, i was looking for a couple of good long range radios for hunting or emergency cases like SHTF.

would i be better off going with a HAM radio like the beofang

@truckingman26 E-bay :)
@Cbluboi01 I just did. Tag, you're it, lol.
@MHCsux Nope. Its too bad they're not. They are REALLY nice radios. I just got in another one yesterday and have it on the CPS and its flawless ;)

MODAT is HIGHLY over-rated.
