8:40, lol it really does sound like crap compared to digital. Also, at 11:00 The KVL 3000 does not do AES256, so you'll need a KVL3000 Plus or higher for AES236.
The XTS 5000 is a very nice radio. I think the CVSD 56 bit SecureNet sounds terrible, but given how old it is I cut it some slack. Do you have AES 256?
+TheEchoAlpha can you load DES-OFB for P25 with that 3011DX or just DES or DES-XL for the analog channels? I just have ADP in my XTS radios, but have some DMR radios with the AES upgrade. Thanks for the info.
You can load OFB, but I dont. OFB is older than XL. If you load XL the radios will use it either on Digital or Analog. In my opinion I would use XL over OFB.
Very nice! They look amazing! Did you get them like that or re-case them? If you don't mind me asking where did you buy them and how much? Thanks you make great video's about radio's!
Can you do a "how to" on how to make the radio for listen only on a 800 p25 system? Ensuring it wont be stunned or bricked? For instance, I'm in RI. We only have 3 main sites... Alot of people tell me it's easy but I'm still confused. Thx
Hey I have a quick question, where could I operate digital p25 on? I would also like to try encryption with sabers i have but i'm not sure where I can test it or not. I use murs with ht1000s because they are applicable for it but I'm not sure if murs allows digital.
Typically encryption is only allowed on business or public safety licensed frequencies. I however have heard of alot of preppers who use P25 and encryption on MURS. Doesn't make it legal but it seems like MURS in kinda wild like that.
@@KJ7BZC likely you could find someone who has a business frequency or frequency pair and ask them if you could test P25 on there frequency. Otherwise you can use P25 on amateur freqs. I wish I had some P25 ham repeaters around me to use. But I have a couple itinerant freqs and a P25 system that I'm allowed to use.
What is the best going rate for a functioning XTS5000 these days? I feel like recent times have dried up a lot of the supply except beat up parts-only model 1 and 2 units, or the 800/900 mhz models.
Motorola has a 40+ year history of undermining encryption on their radios beginning with DVP which could be broken in 128 guesses max. Also don't trust DVP-XL or DES. DVP-XL is proprietary, like the trivially weak DVP. DES is archaic, but Motorola helped make it easier to break by *inserting known plaintext into every transmission.* I wouldn't even trust AES 256 on a Moto unless I made my own key. I wouldn't put it past them to have botched the PRNG in the KVLs to only generate 100 or so quintillion keys if you use the kvl to generate an AES key. No proof of this, but given their history of subverting voice encryption I wouldn't doubt it. Certain other vendors p25 radios don't insert known plaintext into every encrypted transmissions! Moto does. They even patented it in the 90's.
The cable your using that is connected to your DX key loader, will that same cable work on a KVL-3000 ?...also I believe that DX Key loader will work on a Astro-Saber, do you know if a KVL-3000 would work on a Astro-Saber...?
+TheEchoAlpha Awesome, been a tech class for about a year, want to encrypt via simplex w/ my buddy, going to start w/ a T0311 BX / DX w/ Astro-Saber etc..
Not necessarily. If they are used but in really good condition then no its not bad at all! If there is an XTS5000 for $180 it is either only the radio and no accessories, a scam, or a really good deal! I almost got an XTS5000 for $1 once. It was the radio (Model 2) charger, and speaker mic. (It was a bid and free shipping.) If you can send me the link and the model # I could help you see of it is a trustworthy seller and a good radio.
@5':30" you say that they're available in 900MHz versions ... where have you ever seen a 900MHz version of a XTS5000? As far as I know, Motorola only made MTX9250's, XPR7380's and XTS2500's available in 900MHz but never a 5000.
6 years later I’m watching this and buying a couple for my group! Great video!
GREAT review and video! Please don't stop making them!
Very cool demonstration of the radios and the encryption part. Very nice indeed.
Hope your doing well. Lost my old yt account, but have been following your channel for a bit. Take good care man
I just bought an apx7000 (vhf and 700/800mhz) and it works very well although the audio on the xts series in my opinion is better
How much did it cost ?
I guess that's cool if you just love amateur 2m and MURS, but what could you even use the 700/800 band for?
What a great video. Thank you!

I love the XTS 5000,over & above newer models, like APX 7000,8000 etc, just an awesome radio all round.
I believe the R after the 5000 designates the radio is ruggedized, not necessarily intrinsically safe.
Your correct. Only a radio with the "FM" approval AND a suitable battery, is approved for "explosive" environments.
Phenomenal explanation and example. Thank you
When you have DES strapped to an analog channel, what you are hearing is 12 k/bit's CVSD or Motorola's "SECURENET," not DES over analog.
The XTS 5000 is a very nice radio.
I think the CVSD 56 bit SecureNet sounds terrible, but given how old it is I cut it some slack.
Do you have AES 256?
I do have AES-256 enabled in the PRC153 (XTS2500) No keys are loaded though, as I do not have a KVL3000 yet.
+TheEchoAlpha
can you load DES-OFB for P25 with that 3011DX or just DES or DES-XL for the analog channels?

Do these have to be on a P25 network or can they be setup for radio to radio direct on 700/800 phase 1?
I wanna see one of these dang xts5000 cci radios bad but I can’t find anything on them!
Very nice! They look amazing! Did you get them like that or re-case them? If you don't mind me asking where did you buy them and how much? Thanks you make great video's about radio's!
One came as is. The other was in parts. I purchased a new housing for it.
Where did you get the housing? I cannot find a good one online. Thanks

RI BNS what kind of system are you trying to scan
Just get a trunktracking scanner. Better core functionality and more receive features
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👍
Great video, very informative.
Very nice!
Can the apco25 digital mode be used just radio to radio? With say two of these encrypted ? Any special programming concerns?
Yes and yes. You'll need a keyloader to use hardware encryption (DES or AES); I believe software encryption (ADP) keys can be loaded via the CPS.
I would certainly be interested in seeing demos on any other equipment you have!
nice. you have any XTS2500 videos?
This is a test
Fox 1
Fox 2
Fox 3
Fox 5
Fox 6
So if you got a key loader for AES 256 encryption, what else do you need? Cant find any good tutorials on how to generate keys.

@@davidboyd7773 Yeah I'd like to stay legal when testing it, but don't want to have to get a commercial channel either. Might be an impossible feat.

Yeah I could test on amateur, but that doesn’t let me do encryption.

Umm I take a guess of $499-$1000
So what is the flashcode that has ALL the options? Where would I obtain such a radio? Can i flash them myself in 2018?
hey man big fan seriously considering these ... i do love rhat cool saber though the sick big motorola astro saber phase 1 project 25

Crazy thanks for the info drop.
Cool video. Reminds me a bit of my day job. What is the latest version of CPS for the 5000? Is it just the Astro 25 CPS?
Make sure you use the ASTRO25 PORTABLE CPS.
ASTRO 25 Portable CPS version R20.00.00
Can you do more radio videos
What would you charge to load encryption on 2 radios one a xts5000 the other one a xts 2500
The cable your using that is connected to your DX key loader, will that same cable work on a KVL-3000 ?...also I believe that DX Key loader will work on a Astro-Saber, do you know if a KVL-3000 would work on a Astro-Saber...?

Love my 5000.
have you ever though about trying TMS(test message service) with these radios?
I have but it is very hard to get it to work. Maybe if i get enough spare time.
Gotcha, I set it up on my XTS 5000 but haven't been able to test it because I only have 1 model 3 XTS 5000.
What frequency’s are you operating on ?
What is the best radio for fdny
If I buy one can I program the frequency that I have into it after I buy it
If it’s FPP enabled and your radio is the correct band for the frequency you want to listen to, then yes.
MrJruta I have the radio in front of me how do I get it to where I can put the frequencies in it
Do you program them
How do you in mute off
Do you know anyone in south MS that can program my XTS 5000R. I have 3 that need to be program.
AES256 is CPS-programmable!
Are these hard to program?
Thank you.
How about the xts1500
what's the best 016 radio for combat???
I'm wondering if you could send SMS with those radios?
Olaf Elsbeurry No, you cannot.
I need a set of those
Is it bad to buy them used because i see some one saleing one for 180 is that good ?

The FCC id ...Az489FT4855
Model number...H14QDH9PW7AN
Serial number...320CEH399F
Its on this shopping app called letgo
Must be a fake radio because the model # is not on file.
Dave the Picture is blurry that he took i think its H18qdh9pw7an idk tho
Ok that makes sense. It is a 5 watt, 380-470 bandwidth, and 256 channels. What does it come with?

thats an error on my part. Thanks
I need my radio program
How hard is it if I just wanted to listen to a frequency. Like 154.160 would I just enter that in and then I could listen?
If the radio has FPP enabled and is of the vhf variant? Yes.
Can't believe many departments used des-xl years ago all you heard on analog was white noise lol sounds like crap
2:17 OSP :)
@5:00 "supposibly" you meant SUPPOSEDLY!!!!
Will these work on gmrs?
Yes
