Thank you for this intellectual conversation on the status of the current state of affairs. In many instances, it proves that the 3 branches of government have no idea what they are doing. God help us
As a longtime LISTENER this is the first time I have seen Matt do the ad read for better help and I have to say it has done more for my mental health than any such program could do. When did Reason blow past everyone production level wise? Well done, and good call!
The best argument for student loan forgiveness is actually a conservative argument. What these guys aren’t mentioning here is that the default rate is an already huge and growing problem. There is no leaving it alone option that is better for working class taxpayers, but that’s apparently what they are saying here. Truth is it is a bubble more catastrophic than the 08 housing crisis and when it pops, the pain will be very real and fall on the working class. Do they really believe the multinational banks are ever going to be the ones who suffer? It really boils down to bailing out the borrowers sooner or bailing out the banks again later and the latter will cost way more than the former. Someone has to have the balls to go after the universities and their endowments, but that’s not any more likely than letting the banks fail.
Don’t forget the massive credit card bubble and the housing bubble that is developing in the south. Yes it’s driven by supply and demand. But just because tons of people are moving into an area and there’s limited supply doesn’t mean a house that was $80,000.20 years ago should be $500,000 now. But it’s also extremely expensive to build a house today also because of the ridiculous artificial inflation.
92% of the US student loan debt is Federal not private. So what you are suggesting as this best argument is to short the Feds $1.56t. You are right though, Big Government isn't going to go after Endowments propped up by it's donors.
@@OfficialCrashnet Exactly. American universities have endowments worth billions and billions and billions. Most American colleges could operate for years without a penny from students or the government. Elite universities and large well-known institutions could probably operate for decades without a penny from the government or intuition. But they keep jacking up prices because of the student loan program, becoming nationalized and taking over by the federal government regulations, and becoming nothing but a free credit card for people. I’m a mortgage broker and I have seen how ridiculous prohibition student loan debt is for people that got all that money didn’t need it didn’t really use it and have nothing to show for it. Didn’t even use it to at least buy a house. They just pissed it away. Now they want to be bailed out. BS!
@@nedhill1242 I'm in Michigan a few years back I did some back of the napkin math for UM & MSU, lets just be nice and say they only make 8% return on their endowments. They can both afford to pay for every student on campus and still get 1/3 of their return.
@@OfficialCrashnet Exactly. It’s insane! And what’s really upsetting maybe more than anything else is these are taxpayer funded institutions. And they jacked up their prices and they know that probably today 60 to 70% of kids should not be going to college and are getting worthless degrees. They know that students are getting into tremendous amounts of debt to pay money that they don’t need they being the university and these people are never gonna get a job that we’re allowed them to pay that money back. There should be widespread class action lawsuits against universities.
I love flybys! As far as polls, I have never responded to one, and nobody that I know has (I am 60 years old, and a "conservalibertarian", as are most of my friends).
I am dumbfounded that the host can all agree that people have crazy opinions on Trump and then seconds later agree that Trump wants to be president for life.
"A-B testing" and "unprincipled" aren't the same as "deranged." I'm about halfway through listening to this and I'm trying to follow where "deranged" is coming from.
I think you should be able to get a full refund for college, including the interest on all loans if it doesn't turn out that you have a career in the field that you studdied in within 5-10 years. The promise of college is that you will have a successful, rewarding career at the end, and too often that's just not the case... sometimes even if you pick a good degree. Any college that doesn't live up to that promise is guilty of false advertising. You should also 100% absolutely be able to declare bankruptcy on and/or refinancecollege loans. They are predatory AF, and there needs to be recourse if you find yourself upside down. Getting taxpayers to pay for it? Naw fam... no bueno... gets a no-vote from me.
There is NO shortage of workers, Emma, there is a shortage of WELL-Paying jobs!!! Pay workers a decent wage and #SecureTheBorder #RemainInMexico #FreeAssangeNOW
So two first term presidents are running for a second term as president, one of them having served eight years as vice president and his entire working Life as a politician in washington, yet it's Trump that wants to be dictator for life? I don't care if someone criticizes or insults Trump or any other politician, but if I wanted to hear 24 year olds spell stupid opinions I could just log on to TikTok
I think I'll be returning to the audio-only version. I'm kidding of course, although I'll usually listen while I'm driving or working around the house. #bringbackthegillespiestauche
If Emma is representative of educated 24 year olds these days who may at some point run this country, I think I can safely return most of my bunker supplies.
How does a contributor to Reason magazine make the claim "Trump wants to make himself a dictator for life" without explaining why she believes that or citing some proof to the claim. Someone please explain the claim
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I am suffering from cognitive dissonance…….. I simultaneously believe there is no hope and that humanity is doomed…….. and that…….. the reason magazine staff can save the world …………… let’s all go to Sugar rock Candy Mountain
I love this Moar Surlier Than Thou edition of the podcast. Also, Emma is just 24, so when she says" this policy will have the exact opposite effect to what is intended." she may not realize that she is describing every progressive policy ever, so she may need to be more specific. hehe.
Yeah I still can't believe how much these guys talk with such political correctness when it comes to Biden's obvious dementia and talking about his "second term." Think whatever you will about 2020, but if Biden is going to win again there is ZERO PERCENT chance of him winning without cheating. He's the worst president in any of our lifetimes and we're watching the US collapse all around us and 80% of people don't even want him to run again, let alone vote for him. But these guys skirt around it all as if this is a CNN talk show. WTF is going on with Reason?!
I have been hearing radio commercials, and sometimes TV commercials for that organization for a couple of years. It was obvious from the very beginning they were not anything remotely Christian, but very woke Christian. Jesus taught forgiveness. Jesus taught love. But contrary to what they think, and promote, Jesus did not promote tolerance. It’s my understanding that God it owns Holly lobby is an Evangelical. That he’s very conservative. I can’t see him being involved with this organization. Is there something that I’m not aware of that Nick Gillespie was referring to? He said this organization is owned by the guy That owns Holly lobby. I have not seen or heard anything of that before.
Did a little research. The family that owns Holly lobby donates 50% of their revenues pretax to Christian organizations. They have donated so far over half $1 billion to Christian organizations. It looks like maybe they gave money to an organization that then gave money to, the people that made that ad. Or possibly they gave them some money directly but it’s very difficult to know how much. Gillespie said that organization is owned by Holly lobby. No. That is a blatant flagrant lie. It looks like Holly lobby might’ve given some money to them. And if you understand how these things work when you don’t have direct records and people are giving away that much money to dozens and dozens and dozens of organizations, it’s no way to know exactly what they’re all doing and keep track of it. It’s quite possible that the family that owns hobby lobby is not even awarethat they gave money to the people that Randalls commercials. If they did, I would be extremely disappointed. And I’m not trying to defend them per se. I just think what Gillespie said was reckless and I wanted to do some research for perspective in context.
