- Hi all and welcome back. A quick one today, thins the basic service I do a couple times a year to my bikes. Keep all those bolts lubed and not seizing. Headset clean, everything torqued to spec. With some basic tools it isn't too intimidating with a modern road bike.
Have a good one,
Andy
Inspired! By the self sufficiency, and for doing it all in the building stairwell! I live in a flat and appreciate the reality!!!
the struggle is real! you know how it feels, I have to use a plant sprayer to clean my bike with no hose
@@andycultracycling mate ive got the same spray can
*internet hi5* 👋
nice one Andy - good tip about checking the brake pad bolts - they can catch you out! bike looks mint after that service, have to say I do all that kinda stuff myself but once a year I do send the bike to the mechanic to bleed the brakes, change pads and change BB bearings - usually after a winter of riding in slop! cheers
that poor mechanic 😂 so long as its all running right that's the main thing
...only a few things out there more satisfying than looking on "your" fresh cleaned bike, always love that,- always want to get right back on the streets,...call it addiction in the best possible way!
definitely, a nice clean chain especially
Andy, that bike is very lucky to have you as its owner!
Those torque wrench clicks are strangely satisfying.
That's given me some confidence to sort out my front derailleur...
I know what you mean, oddly satisfying haha
just rebuild by own bike last weekend & migrated from campag ekar to sram rival etap.
how the hell i managed until now without electronic gears ill never know.
building or servicing a bike give the user a better understanding of how things work which can be useful when miles from anywhere and improvisation is the name of the game.
love the great video.
Thanks mate, I love electrical, Ill never go back myself
Great advice on the caliper screws and great use of wipes...they work so well for cleaning.
Im actually going too change those screws for split pins now, no more seizing that way
Does your Landlord know you did that in the stairwell? Good on you mate! 😂 Keep it up!
They are very understanding 🤣
Top floor flat = Mechanic's workshop. Thanks Andy - mostly for making me feel guilty.
Its a challenge up here but gotta be done
You can replace the pad retaining screws with the XT ones and they have an Allen head and seem to be less prone to seize, but they are ~ 1-2mm longer, so make sure they don't clash with anything.
Thanks for that I’m trying split pins now too
Like your Rides Andy ....that was awesome. ...!
Thankyou mate :)
Thank you for sharing Andy. I will be brave and follow your example. 😀
what's the worst that could happen?
Great video Andy oh to be mechanical minded. Make it look so easy, may I ask what side loading bottle cages you use? Cheers
Hey thanks :) Its a specialized zee cage
Really excellent video thanks
Thanks :)
Great video, thank you Andy
Thanks for watching buddy
That was a very satisfying watch. Now I have bike guilt! On a serious note, do you have your c17 Saddle level or slightly tipped one way or the other? Cheers for the great Vids, Andy.
Hey, thanks for watching mate :) I think my saddle is basically level if not a tad forward, but not a lot
@@andycultracycling Cheers Andy, I’ve just bought the same saddle for my gravel/ultra bike…so far so good!
Your channel is great, mate, I get to see all the rides I did when I lived in Portchester. Now living in Cornwall and considering setting up a similar channel to you, as yours is very inspiring.
Cheers again!
I have replaced my screws with split pins and carry a spare the Shimano screws in brakes are terrible - great video Andy
I’ve just been given a couple split pins actually so I reckon I’ll go that way too now, thanks :)
Hi, I enjoyed watching the breakdown and maintenance. I was wondering which mud guard were you using. It looks simple yet durable.
Hey, that’s a sks bluemels but with flaps added for length
If you've the space, a workstand makes almost every job easier.
Great video. I actually find very satishfying to do my own maintanance. A question: What is your reason for having the DI2 battery in your framebag, rather than in the frame? :-)
Hey, my seat post won’t allow for it as it’s not hollow, and I have easier access to it when it’s no the frame bag :)
Bike porn. Do you use waxed chains Andy or do you apply some form of lubricant post fitting?
Thanks mate :) I just use mic off wet lube
Great video but it gave me the fear. I worry about loosing a nut or bolt on my garage floor and you were doing it at the top of a flight of stairs !! Do you have recommendations for anti-seize grease or other lubricants you use ?
So far no losses although I’ve chased a few things down the stairs 🤣 I use basic grease but do this before and after winter so that’s worked for me so far
Is your bike a gravel bike?
No just endurance geometry but capable of gravel
