    I always appreciate your videos and sharing your experience, thank you! I have been running Conti GP 5000 tires (with latex tubes) for the past few seasons and I have had no more punctures than I had on previous setups (Conti Gatorskins w/butyl tubes). The terrain I ride is pretty tame, so my setup works well. I have run the Conti 4 Seasons in the past and I agree that they are an outstanding tire. If I had the occasion where I were riding with my questionable surfaces, those would likely be my choice.

      Hi mate, really appreciate the comment as always, I use GP5K on my tarmac and they are great. I personally really like Conti's so will carry on with them, maybe 30mm tubeless, lets see

    ...back again with another nice ride, thanks Andy. My milage is goin`up as well, winter setup with Gatorskins,- since i had three punctures just in november on Schwalbe, Michelin and Conti GP5000(best for me). The Gators still look brandnew after about 1100km, they can take some hits and ride "ok", but they seem to be a bit slippery when it`s wet...so

    Hi Andy,I've got a new bike on order for Winter riding and i'm aiming to do a few audaxes this year! The tyres i'm having are the Conti 4 seasons 32mm. Interestingly my local bs advised me to run at about 60psi as you're doing! Here's hoping i can get the same results! 😊

    I run 32mm Specialized Roubaix Pro tires as a tubeless set up. #2 is awesome and very versatile. I got 7000km out of my rear tire before it got retired as an emergency tire, the front is at around 9000km, still in sound condition with no punctures.

    Ive had one flat since 2015. And i knew i was going to get that flat. I was in the middle of belgium with the sun going down, so under pressure to find a place to camp. In belgium and holland there are frequent underpasses under the motorways, to get to the othr side safely. Lots of them. Trouble is near towns people like to drink alcohol in those and smash the bottles. So i had this feeling i was going to get a flat in there. Sure enough. A huge slice into the sidewall even. It was the jagged top of a schnaps bottle that took me out. That would take any tire out.
    For your trip to turkey take some continental gatorskins. The last time i had a flat with those tires was in 2015. I ride a mix of 25's on my road bike and 28's on my touring bike which is also a road bike. I use a tubus rack which hold 2 front ortlieb packsthat attaches to the rear axle assembly. It is not permanent and getting to the wheel to fix something is as quick as slacking off the quick release and then unscrewing and sliding out the quick release.

    I use my definition (same colour by the way) with reserve 44|40 and use 28 gp5000s tr. On these rims they blow up to 32mm and because the rims are so wide you’re not breaking the aero rules. But these rims are tough very much in keeping with the Mason mantra ride fast far (or is it the other way around) and very much rated for gravel use not just road and have no weight limits. Either way they’d be amazing for the trans continental. You can buy the reserve as rim only if you want a dyno hub but got mine with the dependable dt 350 hubs

    • @andycultracycling
      @andycultracycling  8 месяцев назад +1

      Very interesting mate, I will look into them. Did you buy direct? I am tempted for a decent carbon set, but may go with dt Swiss E1800 as they’re cheap and pretty robust. But I will now check out reserve too 👍

    Part of me thinks punctures are much more random rather than tyres and I’ve been extremely lucky, had a spate many years back on thin road tyres but can’t remember how many years ago I punctured since going 28+. But I ride average sub 100 miles a week unless touring/bike packing.
    In any case hope you haven’t jinxed it!
    And I very much enjoy watching you cycle around and get a lot of useful stuff from your videos. Have you tried to get any sponsorship for the TCR?

I have tried a couple brands for some kind of partnership, there aren’t many I’d ask really as I’d rather pay for the gear that works best rather than take free kit that’s not as good. I’d love Maap and Exposure but let’s see if that ever happens 🤣

      No problem, I am 75kg right now. My bike in winter mode as recent videos I just weighed, it is 10.5kg with frame bag etc. plus about 1.5kg water. Then in the summer, Ill also have a seat pack and aero bars etc so would estimate in ultra mode for multiple days, the bike would be about 5kg heavier (at a guess) but then I would weigh about 5kg less myself in summer.

    The last couple of years I have been running Hutchinson Fusion 5 Performance (tubeless) with similar to you nearly no punctures. Prior to those I ran GP4000 tires (clincher) but got punctures at least once a month. I also had a few unrecoverble sidewall cuts, which has never happened with the Hutchinsons. So a robust and well rolling tire. Or am I just more lucky now? 🙂

      @@andycultracycling The weather here is actually finally getting better, was able to do my commute to work today. Regarding tyres and no punctures, it might also be the lower tire pressure I use with a tubeless setup that does the trick. Rode through a lot of glass today with no puncture, so no jinxing so far.

    7 minutes of BS to get to the start of starting to get to the point, then ending with 3 mins of JRA. I think you can do better. Tires and getting punctures are mostly dependent upon the roads (cleanliness) and the ability of the rider to navigate around areas of debris (vision). Much in the way optimal tire pressure is dependent upon road surface and rider size. We no longer promote 115 psi for everyone, and if somebody did promote this we would immediately discard their opinion. So, everyone rides different roads and has different vision. By vision I am not talking about Rx, I'm talking about looking at the road, versus looking at the countryside or videoing/taking pictures while riding. But, vision and attentiveness is a huge factor in punctures. Hence, why large group rides and big pelotons tend to see higher rates of flats.
    Still not sure why RUclips cyclists think we want to see them riding around while listening to bland muzak.
