i know everyone is saying that 600 hp is a lot, and it is, but i like the idea of berdly being more of a tanky character, having more hp than the others. he could even have a "taunt" move that makes all the enemies target him, and it would be perfectly in-character
i feel like this is still super unbalanced gameplay wise. having a tanky character isnt the problem, its that its a tanky character that also deals alot of damage. having them as a wall isnt a bad idea, its just that when they can also fend for their own better than ralsei can it starts to become unbalanced. maybe if his defenses were really low it could work, which is also in character with his faking to be better than he is thing, but theres a point where he becomes unbalanced.
by the end of it he would hop out of your team just to betray you and say that he only wanted to be in the team to test your strength and see how you fight and by the end of it says it was also a test and turns to stone once more because he isnt supported by the fountain there
amazing. like, mid-battle, jams all the other team health out of the way and pushes his in. im imagining for comedic reasons he'd more just be cannon faughter

This is EXACTLY what I want for Deltarune going forward. If it could have been something along the lines of Persona 5 type party members, it would be perfect. I know that's not what the focus of the game is about, but it just would have been cooler if it had been like that kind of party, where Kris is always the leader and must always be in combat but you can swap out your other 2 party members for who else will fight during combat, with new party members being slowly added in as the game progresses through the different dark worlds. Like, they already got the "Phantom Thief Attire" thing with the dark world outfits, just one step away from having party members like that too.
Honestly the correlation between Kris/Joker, Ralsei/Morgana and Susie/Ryuji is already begging to be made, I wouldn't be suppressed if Toby got these ideas from Persona 5

This for some reason reminds me of that battle in which Berdly has a cable on his face and you fight him along the Queen, and that if you don't save him and focus on only attacking the Queen, he rips the cable off by himself at the end of the battle but also ends up losing his left arm (I mean, he doesn't properly "Lose it" but ends up, like, burning his arm).

Honestly I just don't know from my point of view it would really be a waste of resources to have created the sprites of Noelle to no longer use them after. (despite this that was what happened to ralsei's chap1 sprite...)

I think Noelle is 100% going to make a return, given the mystery surrounding Dess, the persistent allusions in hometown to the mayor being Noelle's mother, and Rudy being stuck in the hospital. Plus, Noelle was one of Kris's childhood friends (and her importance in the weird route speaks for itself). I'd be shocked if she didn't turn up again. Jury's out on Berdly though, although given how funny he was I hope he shows up again

For kris, we don't really know much about how berdly perceives them, besides them being "inferior," so perhaps the kris tea would heal more throughout the chapter? Starting at about 20 and eventually increasing to 50 by the time he reveals himself to be a dumbass.

You gotta respect how Birdly was handling the dark world, he basically started owning the whole place instantly, even making the final boss Queen afraid of him (of him annoying her) Maybe he's a little annoying sometimes but he certainly is effective

Late to the party I know, but I really adore that glance toward the enemy berdly does after attacking, it almost feels like he's double checking that he actually hit.
Berdly's magic menu concept: -B-action: his ACTs would be based on Berdly provoking the enemy to concentrate on him or tiring the enemy more -Spell: dumb tornado (32 TP): Confuses the enemy and reduce his dmg (or can just make his attacks slower) -Final boss spell: smart tornado (45 TP): makes the enemy's attack slower greatly
What if berdly's attack would be called "button mash" it's essentially his version of "Rude buster" except it's the attack he used against you where he shoots you with his spear.
Berdly moves so lively in this! I hope Toby sees this and might consider making these Berdly's official sprites, because they are just oozing with character!
I feel like there should be a magic section for berdly like his tornado or his beam or some special attack when fighting the specil boss of the chapter
Honestly, if later chapters of Deltarune allow much higher HP, then 416-506 should be the cap for highest amount of HP a character can have. In Undertale, you would start off with 20 HP, and every level up would add +4 HP. So if LV 100 was a thing, the max HP would definitely be 416 (20 + 396 HP.) But this is Deltarune, and since Susie had like 110 HP in chapter one, that’s where 506 HP at maximum would come in (110 +396 HP.) However since this is Deltarune, there is no guarantee that there will be a leveling system, just increased HP after each chapter. But yeah, I still think that 506 HP should still be the max you can have in the game during future chapters.
if you want it to be balanced he could just have really high health with really low defense like he SEEMS really tanky but when he actually takes damage he just crumbles
I like the idea of swapping party members in future chapters, since it would allow for more organic interactions with the characters, and it could also harm a specific rout if the game forces the character our of your party after chapter 2 if you've been relying on a specific *someone* for ice powers

Not all combined. Non-snowgrave Noelle and Kris alone overpower Berdly (even if he takes help from queen's goons) but yeah he is stronger them by seperate (even Susie) for sure
rather than making berdly a tank, i love the idea of him taking proportional damage, like for scale, Kris has 120 HP, and Berdly has 600, so what would normally hit Kris for 20 would hit Berdly for 100 Making him difficult to heal but would make up for it through other means perhaps through his spell menu or maybe he takes x3 or x4 healing? (He takes x5 damage after all)
the name of berdly action act should be named B-Action because every character action button is named after the first letter of their name like Noelle's N-Action ralsei R-Action etc...
random ideas for berdly skills Smug Buster Deals smug damage (pressing A during attack will also hit the enemy above the target (if there is any), and pressing B during attack will also hit the enemy below the target (if there is any). Doesn't stack) Dumb Slash Deals stupid damage, increases enemy MERCY by 8% (unless you have an "Annoy" stat) Boomerang Deals high stupid damage, but you take 50% of that damage. More damage and penalty with a "Bad idea" stat
this is very specific, but the single pet peeve i have with any aspect of this is the fact that every canon ACT animation has the character pointing forward, while with berdly here, he kinda leans back. with kris and noelle the point is the most obvious, but susie also gestures forward with her hand, and ralsei with his head. every animation is absolutely gorgeous and has so much character, this is just a tiny little thing that bothers me ever so slightly lmao
I hope deltarune has an option to choose between different party members eventually, and you know, the unselected party members just kind of hang out until they're called upon.
I read in some place that Berdly originally was going to be Playable close the end of the chapter, but Toby couldnt handle to program 5 Playable Characters
It’d be so awesome if maybe in the last chapter when that one day comes out, the lightners’ world gets covered by darkness and then Kris and Susie have to team up with Noelle, Berdly, and other lightners to defeat the final boss and you even get to command them in battle. That’d be awesome.
okay, so berdly is a tanky fellow. I don't imagine that he does much damage but he can shift the focus onto himself so the other party members can heal and such. I don't imagine he's the best at ACTS as well, just tanky and annoying overall (which is good!)
What I'd love is if this was part of a Changable Party mod where you could mix and match with Susie, Ralsei, Noelle, and Berdly, maybe you could switch them out at save points

I feel like there should be a magic section for berdly like his tornado or his beam or some special attack when fighting the specil boss of the chapter
Now just imagine if Noelle took Berdly's place as a boss. Absolute chaos would probably ensue.
With 65 TP he can use Torment, makes the enemy get distracted an miss all attacks, and by 25 TP he can use Curain, curates all's life a 45%

Honestly, if later chapters of Deltarune allow much higher HP, then 416-506 should be the cap for highest amount of HP a character can have. In Undertale, you would start off with 20 HP, and every level up would add +4 HP. So if LV 100 was a thing, the max HP would definitely be 416 (20 + 396 HP.) But this is Deltarune, and since Susie had like 110 HP in chapter one, that’s where 506 HP at maximum would come in (110 +396 HP.) However since this is Deltarune, there is no guarantee that there will be a leveling system, just increased HP after each chapter. But yeah, I still think that 506 HP should still be the max you can have in the game during future chapters.
if you want it to be balanced he could just have really high health with really low defense
like he SEEMS really tanky but when he actually takes damage he just crumbles

I like the idea of swapping party members in future chapters, since it would allow for more organic interactions with the characters, and it could also harm a specific rout if the game forces the character our of your party after chapter 2 if you've been relying on a specific *someone* for ice powers
I wonder what would happen if Jevil or Spamton were playable characters! (since they go into your inventory when you beat them, I feel like it would kinda make sense!)

I like how everyone's questioning why Beardly has 600 hp, giving he's a boss character lol.
(Also I wonder how a playable Jevil would look like giving that he, along side Spamton if you cut his strings, is literally in your inventory as a weapon. That and he's still omnipresent as the devilsknife)
Yes, but Susie was also a fight able enemy yet you don't see her with boss level HP. (I'm just saying Berdly can be durable, just not immortal)

kinda wierd, 600 HP is A LOT for a party member, and he literally only has 1 magic.
It's because he discover a way to farm xp (like in the game he actually have 600 HP but 0 defence)

rather than making berdly a tank, i love the idea of him taking proportional damage, like for scale, Kris has 120 HP, and Berdly has 600, so what would normally hit Kris for 20 would hit Berdly for 100
Making him difficult to heal but would make up for it through other means
perhaps through his spell menu or maybe he takes x3 or x4 healing? (He takes x5 damage after all)
Maybe a suggestion is that instead of writing s-action for berdly, maybe change it to b-action.
the name of berdly action act should be named B-Action because every character action button is named after the first letter of their name like Noelle's N-Action ralsei R-Action etc...

Smug Buster
Deals smug damage (pressing A during attack will also hit the enemy above the target (if there is any), and pressing B during attack will also hit the enemy below the target (if there is any). Doesn't stack)
Dumb Slash
Deals stupid damage, increases enemy MERCY by 8% (unless you have an "Annoy" stat)
Boomerang
Deals high stupid damage, but you take 50% of that damage. More damage and penalty with a "Bad idea" stat

this is very specific, but the single pet peeve i have with any aspect of this is the fact that every canon ACT animation has the character pointing forward, while with berdly here, he kinda leans back. with kris and noelle the point is the most obvious, but susie also gestures forward with her hand, and ralsei with his head. every animation is absolutely gorgeous and has so much character, this is just a tiny little thing that bothers me ever so slightly lmao

okay, so berdly is a tanky fellow. I don't imagine that he does much damage but he can shift the focus onto himself so the other party members can heal and such. I don't imagine he's the best at ACTS as well, just tanky and annoying overall (which is good!)

Susie is amazing too but her abilities arent that good, anything she can do in a pacifist route is outlasted by the other characters
