i like how accurate this is, sans isn’t crying at all like in most works, hes just severely disappointed, the tone of dread is still there yet its done the same way canon undertale handled it, the animation is charming and the atmosphere of melancholy is present aswell, i really love when the ut fandom occasionally makes such a beautiful fanwork, something as canon as this is something i havent even seen in a long time and i most definitely appreciate it, you truly did sans’ character justice.
Ima make some fan lore lol *After the evacuation in snowdin, Sans walks around.* *He remembers the death of his brother, Papyrus.* *But due to the reset its been undone, but it will happen again soon.* *Sans is getting mentally ready to see IT kill his brother again.* *P̵̙̬̬͇͚̟͇̫͈̆̔̈̃̾r̵̞͙̰̤͚̬̝̂̋ͅṳ̴̃̃͊̈́͝n̴̡͔̯̤̒͑̈́̀͑̂̎̓̽͘s̸͚͕̩̹̤̐͆̃̆̕e̵̗̣͙̦̪͂̏̄͒̀͗̍̂̄ļ̸̘̳̗̪̈̎̎͘*
This animation made me remember once again how deep Sans as a character is, and how misunderstood he usually is. What I'm talking about specifically is how he reacts to the death of his own brother, Papyrus. And this animation perfectly reflects that situation. In most fanon Undertale content, upon seeing his brother's demise, Sans has an emotional outburst, crying and throwing a fit, and instantly declaring vengeance against the killer. It's definitely how most characters would react to seeing their brother die. However... Sans really isn't like most other characters. The way Sans reacts to it in the animation is much closer to how the canon Sans would have acted. He's just taking a calm, quiet walk through Snowdin, thinking to himself, and taking in everything around him. But it's only when he walks a little further, he spots something. The dust of someone that meant everything to him. And, instead of falling to his knees and crying, he just stands there, silently mourning the loss of his brother. Sans, being as levelheaded as he is, instantly takes it at face value. He doesn't try to deny it in any way. And he certainly doesn't run off to tell anyone about it. He instead reflects on the situation, pondering that in another timeline, Papyrus is alive and well. He just continues to stand there, trying to come to any kind of proper conclusion, but he just can't. He's in too much pain to do that. Eventually, he walks away, accepting the fact that his brother is gone. And the part that hits me the hardest in the animation is as Sans is walking away, he sees a brief hallucination of Papyrus. But he immediately dismisses it, knowing that his mind was just playing tricks on him. And with that, he is shrouded in complete loneliness. I think one of the most relatable parts of Sans as a character is that while he may come off as extroverted when he's around other people, he keeps to himself. Sans loves to entertain others with his bad puns, but deep down, the true Sans is an enigma. He knows so much more than he's supposed to, and yet he doesn't tell anyone. Papyrus is the only person to pick up on this, saying that 'SANS NEVER TELLS ANYONE ANYTHING!', which shows how secretive Sans really is. He doesn't tell anyone else what he's going through, even his own brother. Most of the other characters know Sans as the goofy prankster, but only Sans truly knows how he is when he's alone. Through small breadcrumbs left in the game, it's so clear that Sans went through some kind of horrible incident, but whatever happened to him is an absolute mystery. Because no matter how much Sans is suffering, he refuses to tell anyone else about what he's going through. Because that's just the type of person Sans is. He lies not out of malice, but because he doesn't want to trouble anyone else. Many Undertale characters are open with who they truly are, but not Sans. There's an entire side of him that he keeps locked away. And no, I'm not talking about the side of him where he's all powerful and he has a glowing eye. No, I'm talking about who Sans truly is deep down. The part of him that had ambitions. The part of him that didn't give up yet. "just give up. i did."
Seeing Sans kinda just. . .casually accepting and shrugging off Papyrus's death is somewhat. . .chilling. . .and yet strangely in character for him in a way
@@weirdgamer9566 he does indirectly confront Frisk about it, though only for a short amount of time. whether in the corridor or in one of the neutral endings.
You really did justice to the character here Between all the details, my favourite must be the unalterable smile. People forget that Sans is a skeleton, and even though he can somehow close his eyesockets, his smile will always be permanent. He express so much, yet nothing, because of the empty hole inside of him. He doesn't even care anymore, there is no point to get mad. At least he can see a poetic side to the situation.
@@broging_bread there are a few sprites where he indeed changes his mouth, that is absolutely true. But it is always still a smile, just a less pronounced one His expresion is mainly modifiied by his eyes, truly. If one just changes the eyes to the regular ones, it looks like he is making a fake smile or smt
It's obvious how much effort you put into making this accurate to Toby's vision of the character and the world itself, both artistically and narratively, I hope people start doing more stuff like this to show how Undertale's fanbase has matured over the years.
Man this is so amazing. Sans' narration on the environment around him is so accurate to his character. It's also amusing just how he was able to distinguish the dust from the snow.
I love how canonically accurate this representation of Sans is, most people forget Sans is the type of guy to not do anything about a situation if the damage is already done. Also im impressed by Sans being able to difference between Snow and Dust not even a scientist would notice that by just looks.
You did a good job of representing Sans' "all lowercase" way of speaking. Fans often forget just how monotone the guy is. He's the equivalent of that friend who only ever responds to texts with "lol" or "k".
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone animate this take on Sans’ perspective of Papyrus’ death in a Genocide run before. People usually do the angry interpretation that was alluded to by his threat to the player just before they enter Snowdin. But I think this interpretation is by far the most accurate. Sans is capable of mustering up emotions like anger, sadness, and pure hatred, but his nihilism always dissolves those emotions before he can act on them. The reason why he’s the final boss of a Genocide run is entirely because there’s no one left who is capable of stopping the player. He “can’t afford to not care anymore”. Sans’ melancholic nature is brought upon by his nihilism and knowledge of different timelines, as well as his understanding of who controls when they start and stop. Maybe he didn’t fight Frisk right away because he was a coward- maybe he thought it was pointless because the player could endlessly retry, but without a doubt Sans didn’t try because he just couldn’t muster up the emotions required to care to. This soliloquy perfectly encapsulates how I think Sans went about his brother’s death in the Genocide run. “Why didn’t Sans stop the player before Undyne?” “Why did it take Sans so long before he stopped the player?” The answer is as simple as “he thought it was pointless to even try”. He finally mustered up enough emotion to care when he finally understood that he could no longer afford not to. Great animation. Great writing. This is art.
This makes a lot of sense. If he were going about it logically, he would have tried getting Asgore and Undyne to team up with him in the fight against you. Or tried absorbing human souls.
i love how melancholic and simple this is. it perfectly captures his character, in contrast to how the fandom usually portrays him. who knew we'd see such an on point sans characterization at this time lol
Sans' character here is on-point. He's not angsting over what happened, just...accepting it. After all, it doesn't matter, can't do anything about it. Everything could reset now and he wouldn't even know it, heck, this might not even be the first time this happens so whatever. Despite what the fandom says, Sans is a very lowkey character. In many ways, he's just a guy
honestly, i agree. the fandom sometimes treats him as a god but tbh, he's just a casual guy, a prankster who just doesn't really give a damn anymore given what he suspects. i love content like this that doesn't blow characterization way out of proportion lol
True, a lot of the fandom storylines always depict Sans as kinda crying because of Papyrus' death, but honestly I feel like with Flowey originally being the one that kept doing resets and killing everyone, he probably doesn't care anymore. Hell, in neutral route where you kill Papyrus he doesn't even bother actually fighting you still, just calling you a dirty brother killer. The only time he actually fought back is in Genocide route, but that's only cause in Genocide you're genuinely in a route where you're planning to not just kill everyone, but destroy the entire world into nonexistence completely, and he knows that that's a far worse outcome than just losing anyone he cared for since there would be no resets nor savepoints to go back to, just a full-on restart of the world as we know it, and even then that's still up to the player if they really want to do so.
I think those in the fandom fought him once and sized him up to be a big deal even though he really isn't despite what you encounter in genocide, if sans was just a human he'd just be some normal, semi-boring guy.
Bro...THIS IS Accurate This is the canon sans i know Judging on how empty his residence was.. Hes not crying, hes just disappointed on why the player did this The cold interpretation makes it more cold than the usual "weird fandom sans" J-bug, This is art and cold. Edit:i like how sans knows dust and snows difference lol.
As a undertale fan since 2015 i wanted so hard a animation like this, I just wanted a genocide animation about sans with his canon personality, He will not stop smiling no matter what, and he will always continue making jokes. You did a good job on there! I hope for you and your channel to get more recognition
Have you seen a genocide animation by TC-96? I think they did a fantastic job at portraying Sans as monotone and nonchalant and only changing emotion when he needs to
@@Wiizp590 one of the best imo, not just in the clean animation--it's more subtle then other animations, at least given how calm and nonchalant sans is and how frisk fights like a, well, child lol
1:22 I love how you depicted him here. He's visually smiling, but you can really tell he isn't. This whole thing represents Sans so well. His character is on point. Bravo!!
I can't fathom how much I love this. This has already been said many times before, but Sans' personality here is portrayed so well it's almost canonical. Even though you can slightly feel the pain in his voice, his apathy prevents him from displaying any sort of visual reaction, which is so much more like his canon self than the fandoms interpretation. This is just my take on the animation, but I feel like the death of his brother is the moment when Sans realized, at some point, when there's nobody else left, he's gonna have no choice but to stop you. You'd better be proud of yourself, because this is unironically one of the best Undertale fan animations I've ever watched.
I really like Sans, he's probably one of my favorite characters. I also like how when I heard the word "evacuation" i already knew how the vídeo would proceed and end lol But I didn't expected that I wouldn't feel that sadness and discomfort that other undertale fan-made genocide route animations make me feel. Sans apathy somehow relax me Just like some people i had not enough courage to finish genocide route, and you know what is funny? I did not finished it because i felt bad for him (and Alphys)
His apathy isn't what halts his expression... He's literally a skeleton and can't shift his jaw more than a few centimeters at best. His apathy is also in play but it's not the sole reason.
Okay, I see what you mean, but I'm pretty sure Sans can express fine. For one, in the sprite that appears right after Sans is slashed in genocide, you can see that his smile quite noticeably falters, more than by just a few centimeters. Plus, even if he couldn't move his mouth at all, that's not nessecarily where his expression needs to be limited to. Sans' eyes are able to express just fine, and are able to close and show when he's amused, tired, etc, so I think he would be perfectly capable of displaying visually that he's distressed as well. (If he wasn't so lazy of course)
I really love how sans is portrayed here. I think a lot of people forget WHY he even fights you on Genocide in the first place. You can kill everyone in the underground except a random froggit, and he won't care because he finds it hard to care about anything. And most of his depression comes from finding out about the "reset anomaly" through his research. He only fights you because he thinks the world might be destroyed permanently if he doesn't. (and he's right, luckily Chara does have some mercy towards us in Genocide). Every main character has so much to them in this game, if you just look a little deeper!
This really made me remember what sans was written like. His life philosophy, his reaction to the death of his brother, the way he moves so calmly and slowly despite being in pain. Thank you for reminding me how deep of a character he is. This was beautiful. Sad. But beautiful.
It's interesting, because despite how indifferent he seems and even sounds, you can still tell that this really affected him, looking multiple times at the ground just to see dust spilled on the snow each and every time, taking a long moment to process things before walking away. Even just taking the steps necessary to get closer to the scene was narrated as if it took him a huge effort.
i really like how canon accurate this is, he diding get angry, started crying or whatever sans does in fanon representations, he just accepted it and moved on. This looks very official, the artstyle makes it so good, the music, the ambience, the loneliness everything about it, its beautiful. Its just something i havent seen from the undertale community in a while, its full of fanon representations, horror, and cringey aus, now this is something id like to see every time i look for undertale fanmade stuff, makes me shed a tear honestly of how beautiful this was, just everything about it is so good its unbelievable good job j bug and everyone who worked on this
Personally I like fanon sans but only sometimes and it really depends on what it is. Like I read a fanfic where sans was mostly portrayed as canon besides one part where sans was crying briefly (for the context of the fic, gaster is sans’s older brother that only sans remembered and gaster was about to die permanently in order for frisk to time travel to the past to save asriel before he died). If its a fan animation though where sans cries at papyrus’s death or is like “WhY yOu KiLlEd EvErYonE I CaRed AboUt1!!1!1!1!1!1 *cries*” then I hate it.
To be fair, at a point, even the laziest, or strongest if you picture it that way, will fades, giving up hope is an option, sans seems to refute that though, still holding on, although... He doesn't seem to care much at all, as if he were tired, which... Is kinda who he is. What people consider fanon, is just full on embracing the idea of not trying, giving up comepletely, while "fanon" has him much more emotional, and stronger willed, but even i can see that the true canon, is inbetween, at a certain point he gives it his all, because, well its all he really can do, and after torment like that for a while, he kinda gets tired if giving up. And that is why he choses to fight with the remaining hope he has.
I feel like this is what really happened, he isn't over depressed and crying, but also its not like he just DOESENT CARE, you can tell he's disappointed, still probably sad, but not bawling his eyes out
I never knew that the perfect representation of Sans we needed would appear this year, we begin the year with this masterpiece, and im all for more of it. Thank you so much for remember me of the good things the Undertale fandom gave me, and made me what i am today.
people often forget how Sans was truly made. they make him become some kind of ''hero''. Sans is not a brave hearted hero, he is a monotone and apathetic guy. it's a shame how the fandom just portrays characters the wrong way.
He Kinda Became A Hero In The End, But Not Because He Actually Cared About Thar, But Just Because Of The Thought "I Guess I Should Do At Leasy SOMETHING If That Kid Killed LITERALLY EVERYONE..."
@@ДмитрийРубежов-э1б I've always took it more-so as he realizes that if they killed everyone up to them, that they'll do something irreversible to their universe. It seemed like he was aware of more than just timelines restarting, but that the reports showed timelines completely ending, suddenly. Basically, I just assumed that he knew that if we truly killed everyone, that it'd mean the death of everything (Like he guessed the ERASE ending).
@@ivoneo2806 probably because people think he's this badass vengeance time traveler who would lose his cool after losing his brother or that's just me idk
@@ivoneo2806 the smile that doesn’t budge, no tears but still remarkably sad all while speaking in a calm tone though you can still tell that everything is definitely still affecting him. That’s more what I’m talking about. You just don’t see it often, not saying it’s the only way to portray him or anything it’s just what feels the most accurate to the original story you know? At least to me. Regardless, beautiful.
I’ve never seen this kind of reaction before. I’ve only known Fanon ones, anger, sadness, madness. But lately I’ve started to agree with everyone saying it’s out of character. Even his fight isn’t out of anger, I’ve noticed. He’s not taking pleasure in killing the player. He’s treating it just like they are, like a game of protection that he lost and one of killing that they won. His fight makes him a living death counter, playing with the player while throwing the occasional shade, his only goal worth reaching in a nigh-empty underground is to win his game of protection and guilt/rage-trip the player into doing something worse than lose their killing game. He wants them to give up on it entirely, and return to a timeline where the player actually does something they want to do and love doing, giving the underground, and themself, a happy ending.
2:19 Man, this part is my favorite. It's almost cheesy/emotional but then he treats it like nothing special and stays cool. It really feels like something he would do in game
Man... This just makes that route even sadder man. Sans is so long gone onto just not caring about life anymore. It's actually really sad to see from his perspective. Most people would animate him with furious emotion, but this is more accurate to his character; Yes he would be distraught over the loss, but he would be more dissapointed about everything in reality.
@@Diuz1983 canon sans doesn’t remember, he’s just smart enough to know what’s going on and uses your expressions along with deja vu to tell that a reset has happened
I feel like that makes it even more sadder, ppl who animate him with furious emotion and rage probably aren’t wrong and are accurate too, because that was probably his reaction to the genocide route for the very first time, it’s just that over time, he just, stopped caring more and more, and eventually is like this now, this animation depicts sans and his personality and his reactions to the genocide route really well, just casually strolling around the remains of dead monsters and his brother as if it was just a regular Tuesday, and as sad as it sounds, it probably is like that to sans. Ngl I kinda wish we had a series of some sort like this.
Not sure if anyone said it, but I appreciate how on model sans' design is captured here. There's a cheeky moment that almost looks so close to a pose from Temmie's art and it made me clock that you must have used it as reference. As someone who's struggled to find all the concept art I can, the characters in this game are so hard to get on model and make feel 'right' (a part of it is the fault of Toby's tendency to veto or modify any art that was 'too good,' which also included anything that kept the characters remotely on model lmaO) but you knocked it out of the park here. It felt like I was actually back experiencing this game fresh again, before any real flanderization occurred thru people's home-made stories. I mean all power to them to make art, but this felt special again. This animation felt like it was saying something about the human experience through Sans, it brought back the sans that was written like a real human being. That's hard to do, I know why not everyone can do it, but it is majorly appreciated, it really makes my day to be able to sit with art like this and think about life. Well I didn't mean to write paragraphs, but you got me. I appreciate the work you put into this, I think it inspired me to try my own hand at drafting and writing again. Thanks
I love how melancholic this whole interpretation feels. The slow, roughly sketched outlines of the animation, the remix of "Snowdin" that played throughout, and especially the transition of Sans realizing what had happened to his dear brother. The music stop and color change really sells the weight of impact that had occured, yet I like how he accepted that it had happened, and can't do anything about it considering the deal he had made with Toriel. Bravo!
I recognise that Sans voice anywhere! Djsmell is the definitive Sans voice and nobody can convince me otherwise! Oh and nice animation. A very calming watch considering the context.
It would be a bloody good monologue. the melancholy of a good past that is long gone, a reflection on what it truly means to be a good king and care for his people. the guilt of being directly/indirectly responsible for the deaths of 6 other children
This feel so human. This doesn't even feel like "Sans Undertale", this made me see Sans and put myself in his shoes and how sad and miserable it would be to just know the people you care about will die and you can't do much about it. I'm quite young and I have a little brother, and as weird it sounds I literally feel for Sans in a way. Undertale is a rollercoaster. Love this animation.
This feels like a breath of fresh air seeing sans being more in game like. Lads basically know his choices don't matter and he can't do anything about it. Quite saddening
This reminds me a bit of when I was coping with the death of my grandfather. He died unexpectedly in April this year, and it was at a really unfortunate time, as it happened while my brother from college and as I was preparing to return to school after spring break. Both of us took a walk around our neighborhood, contemplating of the time we spent with our grandpa, trying to cope with his sudden loss. I accepted it quickly, like Sans did, because I knew that there really wasn’t anything that could have been done. It made me cry a lot, and I never truly got over it, but watching this makes me think back to that moment of acceptance.
Really love this. The constant redrawing of Sans every frame, The way he talks. How somber yet cold he sounds at the same time. Being borderline indifferent while also conveying emotion. Wonderful. Also just love Sans' Look and proportions. Feels very Canon.
I really like how Sans is portrayed here. He does care but he knows he can't change a thing. He just analyses the situation and then goes away, pretending it didn't hurt him. He has a lot of work to do with little kid so now his feelings are not important
I’ve been having a tough time right now, and seeing the context of the description and the animation made me tear up a bit. It’s so rare that I see a serious, melancholic animation about Undertale and it touches my heart. It’s glad to see you back, and you just keep improving each time you return!
This is incredible. Of course, this interpretation of Sans isn't the "NOOO I WILL AVENGE YOU" drama queen he's too often portrayed as, and countless comments have pointed this out. However, where this excels is that it also doesn't fall into the trap of making him entirely uncaring of his brother's death. While at first he doesn't seem to have been affected, closer analysis shows a very subtle change in tone - he's more thoughtful, more mellow. He says it best himself - "For once, I struggle to come up with anything." What appears at first to be an offhanded comment is a staggeringly significant line - where else in the game has he had so little left that he can't even deflect it all with a bad pun? Practically never. That's a side of Sans that is shown far too little, and a side that this animation _exemplifies_ - his emptiness. He's not unshaken by Papyrus's death because he's "tough", he's unshaken because there's nothing left to shake away.
What an interesting take on sans's reaction to a genocide run, or at least Papyrus's death... wow! He's not showing extreme emotion, but that's I guess because you interpreted Sans as taking everything more passively, you can still tell he is very moved just by how his thoughts are articulated, but there is no crying or anything, huh. This gave me chills, all the parts of this video, the art, the music, the writing, the voice direction, they create a really good melancholic but strangely comforting video. Seriously stupendous job on this!! And its wild how I can recognise which references for Sans's design were used in what shots, I've seen that Temmie art before. Really like the art is REALLY good, Sans looks amazing, and so do the backgrounds again, big hand for this, this is really damn cool
@@szkraft220 he Is upset but he doesn't cry or anything like other animations do, he Just gave up Hope and Is disappointed in us After seeing everyone dead, again.
I love the way how sans is depicted so accurately here, the melancholy feeling, the music, the writing is immaculate, just pure perfect, this animation is probably the best one i have seen. This is a masterpiece
I felt this like a 5lb weight in my soul. This is why I can't muster up the courage to do a genocide route. UNDERTALE just makes you so immersed in it's world and it's characters, that it's on a whole other level.
@@ricekrispies4994 i wouldn't necessarilly say dont do it, but if you haven't already before doing ur genocide route I recommend doing a true pacifist run as *spoiler warning* genocide permanently alters true pacifist
Im 24, undertale fan since i was 16 ..To me This feels so him, to the point watching this gave me so much nostalgia and that feeling i got is so familiar its sad! This animation really gave me his vibes as in undertale and i love how accurate his design is to the canon!! Also love the animation! Happy to still see undertale being brought up ❤️
Having a little series of this where the characters just talk about the current situation (whether genocide or not) would be amazing. I'd love to see papyrus or asgore .
I really love the way Sans was portrayed. He feels a lot more like his canon self. He does not show any care at most in the outside, but you can still feel his dread that his own brother was killed through the monotone voice’s sheer pitch. He is infact disappointed in Frisk who killed Papyrus. He is not like “canon sans” of today where he doesn’t give a shit. Honestly, this did Sans really well. Good job.
this has to be one of the coolest pieces of Undertale fanworks ever made, seeing sans monologuing after the events of the genocide route is really touching and heart felt.
Id say this is closer than most animations have got, but i wouldn't say its perfectly canon. Sans does show very clear anger and hostility at the player for killing his brother on a neutral route, its just cold and restrained. Hes definitely disappointed and nihilistic, sure, but hes... More than that. Maybe ill try my hand at doing one of these, one that portrays the silent anger without any expression. But you did get incredibly close in my opinion, and good on you for that, its nice to see lesser known aspects of a character not be as lost as i thought they were to the fandom
This is just. Wow. Everything from the art to the scenery to the voice acting to the dialog itself really does a great job encapsulating not only Sans as he really is but the game itself. It's quiet, whats done is done, and Snowdin is still there but everything is just. Off. Because if you've ever seen the game you know exactly the kind of life it used to have. It's just very nicely done.
People keep talking about Sans and how J-Bug perfectly interpreted his character, but this is more than that, it’s a statement. A message to viewers that nothing lasts forever and no matter what you do you will eventually have to let go of whatever this thing or person is, no matter how much you try to tug back. I recommend listening to this day by day because it truly helps you cope with stuff you’ve lost. It’s great ☺️
this is my favorite undertale fan work ever it matches the feel of the game so perfectly on point its a genuine shame that the vast majority of undertale fan stuff feels like it was made by someone that hasn't even played it that light mysterious nostalgic feel, soft music, and light humor it's perfection
This is definitely the best voices I've heard for sans, and how he's portrayed, it's more canon like than the others I've seen, this should become a movie!
God this is amazingly written... thank you for making it, its good to go back in the fandom production and seeing an actual good interpretation of the character.
I love how with the fact that Sans is often shown to not have lip-synching whenever he speaks, you really can’t tell whether or not he is speaking out loud, or if he is having an internal monologue.
Even when this is taking place in the genocide timeline. The mood feels almost bittersweet, like He passed all the stages of grief to just accepting it, and he’s so calm and collected about it.
Ha,, after all these years i can finally found the most lore accurate sans representation by the fandom itself. the lore accurateness to our man sans udnertale is very appreciated. Sansseems very calm, but yet deppresing at the same time, hes not mad, nor crying like in most of the fandoms work that us commonly find, just dissapointed. honestly when i hear the va i noticed that yeah!! of course its djsmell who voiced sans! this is too good to be true, but if undertale had some kind of movie or series, he boutta va sans because of course, his voice fits him so well. as always, great job jbug!!
My favourite detail is the fact how similar Sans looks to his concept art!! So not only is the audio of the video canonically accurate to his personality, but so is his design!
MY FREAKING HEART- HELP- Every time I think I'm finally desensitized to this game I get sucker punched in the feels again "Can't say I'm surprised. Just had hoped I could have seen him again." IS THE MOST GUT-WRENCHINGLY ACCURATE DIALOGUE I'VE EVER HEARD as a response to Papy's death. I understand people WANT Sans to be visibly distraught, because they know that he loves Papyrus, they just can't imagine such a close loved one's death being brushed off so easily - but I don't think Sans' nonchalance is because he doesn't care, it's because he's been numbed. He's basically dissociated from reality at this point. I imagine his reaction was a little more emotional the first heaven-knows-how-many times, before the inevitability set in. Also "Everything just feels heavier today. Or maybe that's just another excuse." Is also spot on. Sans _feels_ guilty about his nonchalance, but he's stuck. He wavers constantly in between "lol what you gonna do" and hinting that he feels guilty for his attitude. 10/10 writing, captured the nihilistic ambivalence without turning him into an insufferable edgelord.
you guys worked so well on this piece of art of a video, it's really heartwarming and also kind of nostalgic to see an animated video using sans' original design by Temmie, and the poem that you've written was extraordinary it felt really soothing and you could feel how lonely he was, the music composition was on point and I loved it, this video is amazing. I just hope that someday people would take a look at the canon representation of these characters and made videos like these since you can really feel the authenticity and imagine this in the actual game. Again amazing job, J-Bug, keep it up and stay safe!
Damn, recently got back into Undertale and did a genocide route yesterday, still busy beating sans. It's kinda creepy how this was recommended to me at such a perfect time. Great job on making me feel shit about it 💀
i for some reason come to this vid after a few months, anyone else do this? the poem vibe sans is givin is a really nice switch up, and this is how i saw sans' reaction since i first saw papyrus' death, it's truly a beautiful depiction. "well, that's that, then. can't do anything about it, right?" this is the most relatable quote tho-
Wow, an amazing take on his discovery. I don’t think there is a wrong way to portray scenes like this and while the “fanon” often is angsty sometimes to a overwhelming degree, it makes more sense for his reaction to be more reserved and quiet. It’s clear he is affected by papyrus’s death, but he understands that nothing can be done and that the fact that everything can be reset almost takes the punch out of loss.
finally a fan that reconizes that sans is always smiling. i hate it when he is frowning or sad. it's out of character. sometimes people smile when they are upset, and it what makes it more sad for him.
This art style is absolutely gorgeous, so soft. I’ve never seen Sans so well-written. This is perfect. The voice and music as well, it’s just.. perfect.
Honestly this is just the most accurate fan made video of sans I've probably seen, not happy yet not sad, not angry but just dissapointed, he doesn't have a care in the world he lives in, that grin that is permanent, the only thing that can show mood change are his eye sockets after all. It's depressing to see how he knows that this will all be reset and everything will go back to normal then back to dead again. Thank you and don't stop making these masterpieces please.
I just wanted to say you did an incredible job on recreating Undertale's art style! Everything looks exactly like the game! Of course, You and everyone else who worked on this were also amazing at replicating Sans’ character and how he would react to his situation. This is honestly the best Undertale fan animation I’ve seen.
I feel like if Sans made a book about himself this is what he'd probably make. Plus, I really love this so much like everyone is saying Sans really is in character in this. He's not mad, sad, nor wanting to take revenge on Frisk he's just calm about it. and I really love that the most about canon Sans, since really looks like he's just a chill guy!
I feel like this is such an accurate and perhaps closest to canon representation to how Sans would feel seeing his brother's dust. It's so in character! Good job!
Oh god, i have never seen a fan content portraying sans SO accurately! This is turly amazing, i'm just... out of words to how much i enjoyed this, he didn't cry, he didn't scream, he just.. accepted it.. and that's most likely how sans would actually react! Jbug, i have always liked your content, you had my enjoyment, but now, you have mh respect.
As someone who has seen all of the things UT has had in store for us, this really shows how Sans actually is. whether you kill everyone with no remorse, or spare everyone you love and care about, he honestly won't care. He's been through so much that it wouldn't matter to him more than anyone else. And the only time he tries to fight back, he's really only trying to stop you. He doesn't care about what's happening currently, he only looks for what happens next, and this captures that vision perfectly. Thank you for this one of a kind animation, and whoever that friend was, I just hope nothing bad happened.
i think this single video is my favorite piece of content that came from undertale. all the fangames, other videos, art, and etc. cannot top what this video made me feel. this was amazing
This feels so out of place on your channel....and I love it. It's what I wish the Undertale fandom made. Something accurate, yet unique. New, yet somehow almost nostalgic. It isn't super edgy, or overdramatic, there's nothing that feels like a needless addition. It's somber, yet also kind of comforting in a weird way. While nothing was learned and lots was lost, there's still some hope in Sans' thought that there might be another "him" out there enjoying himself, experiencing the joy of a nice version of the player he never got to, or will. It's beautiful.
0:54 is genuinely the first reaction I would have had as sans, or maybe undyne. This is the most perfect thing I have ever seen in the vast universe of undertale. Good job.
Not gonna lie, I teared up a bit, this is just.....so emotional yet not overreactive, everyone did an outstanding job here! I'm so happy to see a new upload from you, and to see djsmell voicing sans again, sans' deep thoughts talking really did gave me the true feeling of undertale, thanks to everyone for making this video!

"just give up. i did."

This needs more likes

Between all the details, my favourite must be the unalterable smile. People forget that Sans is a skeleton, and even though he can somehow close his eyesockets, his smile will always be permanent.
He express so much, yet nothing, because of the empty hole inside of him. He doesn't even care anymore, there is no point to get mad. At least he can see a poetic side to the situation.

Fandoms misunderstanding the no eye balls and bad time sans potrayed as Sans no longer chill which incorrect of how sans depicted😂
@user-bo9iy9ul8s lol but fr tho-

I think those in the fandom fought him once and sized him up to be a big deal even though he really isn't despite what you encounter in genocide, if sans was just a human he'd just be some normal, semi-boring guy.

I also like how when I heard the word "evacuation" i already knew how the vídeo would proceed and end lol
But I didn't expected that I wouldn't feel that sadness and discomfort that other undertale fan-made genocide route animations make me feel. Sans apathy somehow relax me
Just like some people i had not enough courage to finish genocide route, and you know what is funny?

Yes!
Its just something i havent seen from the undertale community in a while, its full of fanon representations, horror, and cringey aus, now this is something id like to see every time i look for undertale fanmade stuff, makes me shed a tear honestly of how beautiful this was, just everything about it is so good its unbelievable good job j bug and everyone who worked on this
Mhm. I despise how the fanon interprets sans compared to his canon behavior
Exactly, it brought me back to when we used to see more stuff like this, I love this video
He... Doesn't move on. But other than that, yeah.

I like how sans isn't crying and seems like he's chill with his brother dying but in the inside he's crying I don't know why but it fits his character
Second I fall back into the Undertale fandom I’m greeted with this piece of art, thank you
The fans are better than before and they are trying to make the characters like the characters of the game
This is probably one of my favorite animations. it's very thoughtful but very simple. You've done a fantastic job, and welcome back.
This writing is so good! Finally someone nailed Sans' character.
Really like the art is REALLY good, Sans looks amazing, and so do the backgrounds
again, big hand for this, this is really damn cool
sans in the game was not angry at you . But the fans didn't understand that
@@biko8341 Instead he was actually disappointed in us for doing the bad things us the players did instead of doing the right path.
Did I get it right?
@@biko8341 nah personally i still think he is upset but you cant see that on him cuz hed rather be calm than not
@@szkraft220 he Is upset but he doesn't cry or anything like other animations do, he Just gave up Hope and Is disappointed in us After seeing everyone dead, again.
@@szkraft220 He said in the fight that he didn't care, but after knowing that you wanted to destroy the universe, he changed his mind
5 lb isn't that much is it?
the reason I cant do genocide: dogs
@@FrieBonx22 Does it really matter? you get his point that he feels heavy, no need to be nitpicky
ah shit maybe I shouldn’t have finished the genocide run, y’guys think selling my soul would be a primo move or
@@ricekrispies4994 i wouldn't necessarilly say dont do it, but if you haven't already before doing ur genocide route I recommend doing a true pacifist run as *spoiler warning* genocide permanently alters true pacifist
Im 24, undertale fan since i was 16 ..To me This feels so him, to the point watching this gave me so much nostalgia and that feeling i got is so familiar its sad! This animation really gave me his vibes as in undertale and i love how accurate his design is to the canon!! Also love the animation! Happy to still see undertale being brought up ❤️
this is a great way to show sans, the canon sans that is in the game, calm sounding, hint of something stressing him out that nobody knows
This genuinely made me feel sad and melancholic, it's so well made and faithful to the character it's incredible! You're a master.
That is so sad. The fact that sans just gave up is heartbreaking...
これは...すごい。心情表現がとても上手い
Having a little series of this where the characters just talk about the current situation (whether genocide or not) would be amazing. I'd love to see papyrus or asgore .
I never knew I needed Sans giving a eulogy to Papyrus, as if reciting poetry.
Good job.
this has to be one of the coolest pieces of Undertale fanworks ever made, seeing sans monologuing after the events of the genocide route is really touching and heart felt.
wow so awesome :,3 everything looks very pretty! i lauve ur coloring style!
Thank you so much!!!!! 🥰
I have been a very big fan of your animation style
@@JBUG Okay, you really nailed the personality of Sans. Good job man.
Why do I see you everywhere 💀
THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF FATHER COMING BACK WITH THE MILK! WELCOME BACK ❤️
Yes after 5 months
@@noobsrgodly9894 only 5? Lucky
It’s great ☺️
this is my favorite undertale fan work ever
it matches the feel of the game so perfectly on point its a genuine shame that the vast majority of undertale fan stuff feels like it was made by someone that hasn't even played it
that light mysterious nostalgic feel, soft music, and light humor
it's perfection
Wow, it's really nice to finally hear Djsmell's Sans voice again.
❤
@@DjsmellYT Oh wow I didn't expect you to respond. Ngl, you're my favorite VA for Classic Sans, you impression of him just fits Sans like a glove.
This is definitely the best voices I've heard for sans, and how he's portrayed, it's more canon like than the others I've seen, this should become a movie!
The voice is so familiar... And calming... ❤️
MY FREAKING HEART- HELP-
Every time I think I'm finally desensitized to this game I get sucker punched in the feels again
"Can't say I'm surprised.
If this is true then sans would remember resets
@sonic the hedgehog he does. So does flowey
@@clouts4447 nice misinformation you have there
@the pink coin wdym? Sans and flowey do remember every time you reset (besides true resets)
So how is is misinformation?
This is phenomenal. There's so much about the music, voice acting, and fantastic animation I love
This is probably the most canon representation of Sans's reaction to Papyrus dying on a geno route.
you guys worked so well on this piece of art of a video, it's really heartwarming and also kind of nostalgic to see an animated video using sans' original design by Temmie, and the poem that you've written was extraordinary it felt really soothing and you could feel how lonely he was, the music composition was on point and I loved it, this video is amazing.
I love how much expression you manage to pack into sans despite his perma smile and monotone voice
I love how this is not an outburst into tears, but more common for sans. And the animation style is amazing.
Jbug, i have always liked your content, you had my enjoyment, but now, you have mh respect.
the voice acting is perfect....it repersents sans perfectly....
i literally can’t stop watching this
everyone in this did such a great job!
Holy shit, a canon accurate representation of Sans discovering Papyrus' death, and it looks good? Impossible!
