  • In this video I explain the difference in the 6 WordPress Roles, and the Capabilities aka Permissions for those roles.
In a standard WordPress Installation, there are only 5 Roles initially created, but if you have a WordPress Multi-site Installation, then there's 6 roles.
WordPress Roles and Capabilities are an extremely important topic since proper role management is a major part of a website administrators job.
The 6 WordPress Roles from most powerful, to least:
    1. Super Admin which is only for a Multi-site installation
    2. Administrator
    3. Editor
    4. Author
    5. Contributor
    6. Subscriber
The benefits of learning about WordPress Roles and Capabilities are many, from learning how to setup a membership website, how to handle guest bloggers, making sure users only have the capabilities they need and nothing more.
There are other benefits such as creating custom roles with custom capabilities which is useful if you'll be selling products on your website and want to only give the ability to view or download content or products, to select users with a particular user role.
In the video, I also show you how to manage user roles with several WordPress Plugins such as:
    1. Members Plugin
    2. User Role Editor Plugin
    3. View Admin As Plugin
    4. User Switching Plugin
I also demonstrate what the different capabilities are by creating and editing content with various roles.
Hopefully you enjoy the video and find it helpful.
