Hard pass - CVT only, which has been plagued with recalls and reliability issues. They should have gone with an Aisin gearbox instead of going whole-hog into CVTs.
My fiance has a 2019 and we love it. It's like a spaceship inside. the tech is great, the pano sunroof is fantastic. its perfect for running errands on the weekends. I'm 6'4, 265 and fit wonderfully inside. The sound system is great. The storage capacity works well for camping as well hauling things from The Home Depot and Bad, Bath and Beyond. The visibility outside the windshield is way better than the outback.
I just wished it had more power. I'm not expecting turbo kind of power but considering it's competitors have similar engine displacement but make about 200hp (CX-5, Rav4)
I have a 2019 Sport. The visibility is unmatched. Great utility. If more hp, do it without extra expense & reduced mpg of a turbo. This isn't a sports car; it's a highly utilitarian, all purpose vehicle.
As someone with the 2020 Forester sport, its easier on the eyes, surprisingly 'sporty'. But holy I've never driven a car with so few blind spots - it's like driving in a fish bowl. Also - there is so much room in both rear and front seats. 👌👌

Also one of the cheapest to own in the class. They hold their value, relatively simple engine design so people can usually work on these themselves, parts are hella available. So many subarus use the same parts its great. Also for a non electric awd suv its one of the top in fuel efficiency. Lastly the insurance is super inexpensive.
No mention of the beautifully engineered boxer engine! That's one thing that sets it apart. I just went from a 1999 Forester and it took some getting used to all the digital and luxury aspects but loving my 2020 Sport edition. The Subaru vibe is still there for me underneath all the gloss.

I purchased a 2020 Forester Limited. So far absolutely love it! I do have two minor complaints. 1. The auto start/stop. Not something you can really avoid these days so ill accept it. 2. A bug with apple car play and USB media. Cannot access USB media when Iphone is connected. Beyond those minor complaint the vehicle is a pleasure to drive. The adaptive cruise control and lane keep is impressive and works well. Appointments are comfortable and ride is surprisingly supple. Have yet to "floor" it, but have merged on many high ways and never been wanting for power/acceleration. All in all a tight package for the price.
I appreciate when it’s more “normal” cars that my friends and family drive; aka. if I’m going to buy a car I can afford this year. Of course the fancy cars are better. But I enjoy the cars and reviews for the muggles.
I don’t know if this is something that would fit in your car review’s format, but for family centric vehicles (like this Forester) I would mentioned crash ratings
I bought a 2020 Touring (top trim in the US) and I absolutely love this thing. Only two things really drive me nuts, the fact that you can't permanently disable engine auto start/stop and that you can't permanently enable auto brake hold. The former I understand due to emissions certification, the latter I can't explain. Otherwise the vehicle is fantastic. While the exterior looks are dull (as all Subarus), the interior in this generation has really taken a step forward and IMHO at the very least matched if not leaped over most of the competition. The safety tech is class leading now doubt, eyesight is fantastic. Lane centering works wonders on the highway unlike what Yuri experienced. The fact that it will auto stop you both forward and in reverse if it seems obstacles, is next level. The automatic seat/mirror adjustment based on facial recognition is next level, I don't know how we lived without. I share the car with my wife and it makes everything seamless. The heated steering wheel is great and heated rear seats is a nice extra touch. The only performance I care about in this car is the inclement weather performance, which goes without saying is obviously great. As far as power/CVT, it's irrelevant to me as it's just a family hauler for us.
I was worried when I saw IG preview as I love my 17 Forester Limited and was worried they'd trash it. As I always say, the CVT would never be my choice in a sports car or performance vehicle, but it suits this suv perfectly. I've never owned a car that was so amazingly efficient at holding speed in cruise over hilly back roads or highways as it doesn't have to mess around with Dow shifting a whole gear, it can do so much more with engine braking on downhills meaning less riding the brakes to maintain speed or suddenly going 15kmh faster than cruise is set just because you're on a hill. With snows on it's been unstoppable in winter and even on stock 18" tires I've trundled it down forest path and fire routes with nothing but a smile at the fun I'd had.
Honestly you guys were a lot nicer about the Forester than I expected. I bought a 2020 Forester Limited last October over a CX-5 Turbo - I know you guys don't talk about MPGs, but that and the head unit made me lean towards the Forester. The CX-5 reverse and 360 cam was awful. And I drive like a grandma anyway so the Forester suits me just fine.
I love my 2017 Forester XT with its turbo. And though there are features in the 2020 Forester I would like to have (Android Auto, faster operating tailgate, etc) I wouldn't trade my turbo's power for them.
I know it is because we bought a Sport at the end of last year, and it’s great. It’s my wife’s car, and she’s in love LOL! 30mpg, all wheel drive, tons of space, rugged enough, panoramic moonroof...not too shabby. Oh yeah, and the easiest oil change I’ve ever done :)
Happy that I chose a CX-5 (sadly not the turbo) over the Forester. Mazda offered more for the money, felt more premium, had way better driving dynamics, and no CVT. The Forester is better for space utilization and visibility, plus it offers the giant moonroof, but I couldn't stand the lack of power.
I like the way the cx5 looks and drives but it's too low to the ground for me. I drive through a lot of deep snow and do alot of outdoors activities than evolves driving on rough dirt roads. Some of them require at least 8 inches of ground clearance. I just feel more comfortable doing them in a taller cuv such as Forester or RAV4.
I've drive the new generation Foresters a few times when they give a loner to drive. I can tell you it needs a bigger rear stabilizer bar. I replaced the stock rear stabilizer bar on my 2015 Forester with the 20mm one and it makes a big difference in tightening up the rear for turn-in and out.
Well...one "problem" in this (and many videos on FB that are to inform & entertain) is the well over used "fill-in word" the young folks, as well as some of the older generation overuse, is "LIKE". It's a connecting fill-in word that is like my "fill-in" word of decades ago when I was young called: "YOU KNOW". Guys...I like the Subaru models for the most part for some 20 years. I own a 2004 Forester XL that I bought outright cash in September, 2003. This dependable car has been treated pretty well by me. It has about 127K on it. Only bad thing I encountered (along with many other Subaru owners of the Forester and, maybe, a couple other models of theirs is, bad head seals. I got that fixed many years ago and have no problem. The only other thing I had to replace was the radiator. Outside of the normal service of battery and tires and change of fluids plus interval tune-ups...all being done the past several years by an independent Subaru shop in Atlanta, this car is good. I have thought from time to time the past two years about getting a new model that has many update features and comforts of the 2004 model but, the cost...just more than I want, like most cars that demand a $25,000 or more ticket price. Actually...$30 - 35,000 is standard for a good car. Well...that "thought/dream" may just have to wait but, one thing for sure - the new Forester and the remade Legacy are eye catchers to me. Wish I could get one for this near 70 year old.
We went to a dealer with the intention of purchasing a Forester to replace our 2013 Crosstrek, but discovered there was no height adjustment for the front passenger seat in the Forester at any trim level. The wife's feet could not touch the floor. It put too much stress on her knee joints. Long trips would require placing a false floor on the passenger side. The false floor would have to be removed when swapping drivers. No sale. If you have a petite partner, be sure to sit in this vehicle before purchasing it.
@@e70_x5_guy4 But the new Escape is the first of the new manufacturing line. Hasn't there been some quality issues there? Either way personally I'm a forester/Rav4 supporter
Greetings from Australia guys. Love your reviews. The looks on your faces when you planted the foot at the start of the video are priceless. I had exactly the same reaction when I test drove the Forester and ended up getting our equivalent to your CX5 Signature turbo.
I bought one last December and I love everything about it... Excellent visibility, nice long and wide panoramic sunroof, eyesight works marvelously well (excpt, it makes my heart beat faster when approaching stopped vehicle, like on red light) and I use it a lot. Love the crystal pearl color and best of all, I can start it remotely from cellphone app...no regrets at all☺️👍👍👍
I picked mine - 2019 Forester in Touring trim in blue on grey back in December 2018 and have been fairly happy so far. Coming from a 2008 MDX, the cargo space is a bit lacking for the few days when we go camping with our two young kids. We mitigated that with a roof cargo bag. The engine is loud when it's cold, but is fine after a couple of minutes of driving even in extreme cold weather.
You should have told the public what model you were testing so there is no confusion optional equipment. You should have also tested it night to see how hard it is to find the overhead lights. I have a 2019 but should be about the same and you have to drive it for a while to notice all the design flaws
Mazda 5 hands down for interstate/city driving, Honda CRV Mom around town car of choice. Subaru Forester if you drive on any dirt roads or want to go off road to camp or sight see nature and it great for town and highway driving if you live in a climate that throws heavy rain, snow, ice the AWD and traction settings are far and away best of the small SUV/ crossover classes of vehicles. The safety technology is well done and crash safety has always been a hallmark of Subaru.
and we here in malaysia disappointed with the stripped down version, where we dont have memory seats, nappa leather, sunroof, auto stop and called as top spec for the same price when we convert to malaysian ringgit. how unlucky we are.
4/10: Doesn’t have a twin turbo. Doesn’t have a hood scoop. Isn’t a Ferrari. I have to push too many buttons. No 360 camera, I have to actually look around me. Sheesh.
I'm obviously an outlier, but the lack of a hybrid option is a deal killer for me. I looked at the crosstrek hybrid last year because of it's in town range for commuting etc, but wasn't willing to sacrifice the already small cargo space in the rear. Seems like there'd be room in the larger forester for a battery pack...
Had a company fleet of 12 brand new Subaru Foresters back in 2014. All 12 received dealer maintance and followed the schedule religiously. We sold all 12 of them last year. Each of them had between 100k to 140k miles when sold. 5 of them required total CVT replacements at less than 30k miles. 1 of them required a CVT replacment at 6k miles. ALL 12 of them burned at least 1-2 quarts of oil between oil changes. 3 of them required 1 quart every 1,000 miles. They were tough cars offroad and never got us stuck, but they required a lot of TLC to keep them running their best. We've purchased a fleet of 12 Toyota 4runners last June...will check back in 4 years and let you know how these compared to the Subarus...

@@TheStraightPipes yeah, but almost all cars still don't have that feature. I do think they need to change the media and radio buttons to apple Carplay/ Android auto though!
The car is solid but, in terms of looks, it really gets lost in the parking lot. I ended up putting a white decal on the back window to help me distinguish it from every other car in the lot. Suburu also includes a cd player which had been eliminated in 2019.
The sport trim actually looks quite nice with the orange trim lines. That would be the model o would get if I were in the market. I don’t understand the brown leather. I mean nobody really thinks brown mitt leather looks great. We have a 2015 Forester for my wife’s car. Handles excellent and kinda peppy, amazing in the snow, holds 2 kids in the back.
WR ZL1 A lot of people claims that it doesn't have enough power, but it is more than enough. We personally own one and the engine is perfect. Good balance with the amount of power to merge and regular accelerating with efficiency. The CVT can be a little whiney when doing hard acceleration, but if we’re being real... you won’t be accelerating heavily everywhere. It also acts like a regular automatic (but smoother) to anyone that drives it.
I dunno, I think Kia's Sportage in SX trim looks and drives much better than the Forester. But I do agree, the Mazda CX-5 is the current class leader in this segment.
@@ChaosphereIX you half right. I drive for a living. I see people with 4matic, xdrive, Quattro with $1200 winter tires on and still crash even when they driving slow.

Wtf is wrong wirh yuris hair lately.. It looks like he gets up from bed and starts recording lmao
And you care why?
@@Hallowsaw becoz yuri bae
We went to a dealer with the intention of purchasing a Forester to replace our 2013 Crosstrek, but discovered there was no height adjustment for the front passenger seat in the Forester at any trim level. The wife's feet could not touch the floor. It put too much stress on her knee joints. Long trips would require placing a false floor on the passenger side. The false floor would have to be removed when swapping drivers. No sale. If you have a petite partner, be sure to sit in this vehicle before purchasing it.
HOW?! How do you know I am looking for a 2020 Forester lol
😉
MarvelousWhale Vlogs I would get the new Ford Escape or the Toyota RAV4.
@@e70_x5_guy4 But the new Escape is the first of the new manufacturing line. Hasn't there been some quality issues there?
Either way personally I'm a forester/Rav4 supporter
@@e70_x5_guy4 I am a Subaru fanboy Only ever had Subaru cant beat their AWD
@@MarvelousWhales get an outback XT youll thank me later
Greetings from Australia guys. Love your reviews.
The looks on your faces when you planted the foot at the start of the video are priceless. I had exactly the same reaction when I test drove the Forester and ended up getting our equivalent to your CX5 Signature turbo.
Cheers mate
I just bought this car and I absolutely love it 😍 same color
Downgraded huh
The armrest is one of the reasons I'll skip this car. I have some shoulder issues. This is very surprising as it is easy to fix.
You should have told the public what model you were testing so there is no confusion optional equipment. You should have also tested it night to see how hard it is to find the overhead lights. I have a 2019 but should be about the same and you have to drive it for a while to notice all the design flaws
We told the public exactly what model it was
*man that simulated quick* that's something u don't hear everyday
also
is that a bold spot on yuri or is it jus messy hair 5:30
I saw it earlier in the video as well. I'm all for the messy hair look but that spot is bugging me. LOL
My wig slipped out of place
Bald spot
Makes me so happy to have found a Canadian car review channel!
We love being Canadian

Wicker baskets, cats and sudoku in a sun porch comes to mind when I see this car. Great intro music btw.
The view in the WRX/STI and Forester is so much better than the Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Crosstrek. It's weird that it's so different.
I've been driving for over 20 years and I never once moved the sun visor to the side, let alone tried to extend it. Am I alone here?
I drive north on the NY Thruway a lot in the late afternoon and that visor definitely goes to the side. The sun glare can be brutal.
The Subaru Forester - Even in blue, its beige.
CrashBomber Hahahaa Well Done! 😂🤙🏼🏆
My neighbor just got one of these and had to get the drive shaft at 25k miles I personally think it’s trash
Decision made. Final verdict: Subaru Forester, in dark green with beige leather seats.
Thanks guys!
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
My 2021 Forester Sport has “Sport Sharp” driving mode, which does improve acceleration a little bit
Arguably the older Forester looked better on the outside. More geometric shapes. And the turbo had a hood scoop!
I love lane keep assist on the highway.
Plus Subarus infotainment is super useable and fairly snappy.
4/10:
Doesn’t have a twin turbo.
Doesn’t have a hood scoop.
Isn’t a Ferrari.
I have to push too many buttons.
No 360 camera, I have to actually look around me.
Sheesh.
I love my ‘15 Forester XT.
I love my Mazda CX-5!❤️
Yuri: "a little too many buttons to get to Apple Carplay" Mate, chill out. It's literally 2 clicks😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 even Jacob was not approving of your thought ahahaha
2 clicks is more than one click
@@TheStraightPipes yeah, but almost all cars still don't have that feature. I do think they need to change the media and radio buttons to apple Carplay/ Android auto though!
The car is solid but, in terms of looks, it really gets lost in the parking lot. I ended up putting a white decal on the back window to help me distinguish it from every other car in the lot. Suburu also includes a cd player which had been eliminated in 2019.

Jacob checking the speedometer so he's not going 40+ over the speed limit 😂
It looks so tall, you guys look like kids with all that headroom 😆
"Nicest, darkest, glossiest screen..." Tilted at just the right angle so it blinds you as soon as the sun peeks through those clouds.
How did you guys finally fix the random mic unplugging issue you guys used to have? It’s been perfect since.
Spent several more thousands of dollars
The exitement Jakub shows when talking about SUVs is palpable haha.
But there will be better days in the office I'm sure :)
Holy bed head Yuri!!!
If I care about snow performance, this is the only mid-size SUV I would pick to keep family safe.
CVT and no power, definitely NOT better than you think.
It's sad what happened to their cars :(
I've been waiting for this for so so soooooo long
You guys should review the new Kia Seltos!
Love the straightened piping!
I could never understand why people stress for AWD and still crash in the snow 🤫
Because they dont have winters, and think they are driving an Abrams because they have full time AWD, because the marketing said so.
@@ChaosphereIX you half right. I drive for a living. I see people with 4matic, xdrive, Quattro with $1200 winter tires on and still crash even when they driving slow.
@@ACURACALABAR11 I drive for a living too, and see the same. Although more often than not it is some idiot in an AWD Rogue or 1500 truck on all seasons thinking he/she is invincible, and driving way too fast for the conditions. Yes, even the best tires cannot save you in all situations, just like even the best traction control cant save your ass when you try and defy the laws of physics on a back roadin your RWD sports car. But it is better to have winters than not.
Awesome interior . All the exterior needs is less cheesy looking out dated Crome . Love the forester though ..
"Not if you're six foot one and *_a half_* "
I really wish Subaru could make the looks of Forester more aggressive and please bring back the XT model although I might not be able to afford it lol
Love the channel and the look at the new Forrester, but when are you going to review a Ford Escape? The plug-in hybrid or the Titanium packages on the Escape make it a very interesting SUV.
Anyone else watch this video just to support these great guys, and have absolutely no interest in this big, slow, bland, droning monstrosity?
Ironically Subaru came out with a marketing campaign years ago, where they made fun of everyone else for the points you just mentioned.
Fast forward to today, look where they are now...
Watch our Legacy review for that ad
Absolutely love my 2020 Forester Sport. Although, I’d have purchased an XT Forester if they still made it! Thanks Boys!!
Shoulda just got a lightly used 2018 Forester XT.
save your money for the head gaskets replacement $ 2800-3000 at about 80k
Horrible car, my wife bought a 2019 and it's done nothing but let us down in reliability fit and finish.
Can I ask what's been wrong with it?
@@dillonh321 Vent next to screen completely popped out of its housing, uncomfortable seats, arm rest is too low and small, overpriced for the options (like it has paddle shifters...in a cvt crossover, a third screen that shows NO useful information, has adaptive cruise control that sometimes decides to work aaand yet no blindspot monitor). Other manufacturers offer ALL safety features as standard on all trims. The user interface is extremely convoluted (Hyundai, Honda do it way better imo), to even more nitpicky things which honestly makes it feel like a poorly designed vehicle. The exterior is nice, and it drives reasonably well, but everything from the poor appointments for the price, to stupid things like the auto start/stop always turning back on by itself leaves a lot to be desired. Now the 5 month dealership ordeal is a whoooole other story. I have forever been turned away from Subaru. ALSO we got a recall notice in the mail for a faulty PCV valve. It just doesn't end with this P.O.S.
CR-V, please.
The intro song alone makes this vid worthy of a like.
That back end looks hideous
You guys need to review the Honda CRV!
I'd take anything but the subaru.
You didn't mention that top screen does front and side cameras. Also, the CX-5 did have LKA.
