Alex thanks so much for the great information! New viewer here and I have just let adaptive cruise on my 2020 Forester handle things when stopped behind other cars because I was clueless about AVH. So for nearly 3 years when I am the first car at a (long) light I have been putting my car in Park! Note: I have done F&I for Subaru dealers since 2006, but with a guaranteed 5 on the survey I always get short changed at delivery!!! As of now I am planning on buying out my lease in 2023 because I just cannot bear to learn another car. I always told my customers the best used car you can buy is the one YOU have been driving for three years, so I plan to practice what I preach!

    • @alexpmo

Alex, your Subaru videos are not only informative, but so well detailed that I’m learning tons of useful stuff thanks to you.
I’m 64 yrs young 6’2 and 218 lbs, tested 😮the RAV4 and Mazda CX 5, they just didn’t feel right (too cramped and noisy) then and as luck would have it I ran into your channel here in YT, I tested the Forester and that’s what I just ordered 6 days ago, Touring model white ext and noble brown interior.
Thank you for making my decision much easier, you just got yourself another subscriber in me, I wish for you all the best and a lifetime of success ~ Cheers. 🍻

@@sandradee7484 Very happy with my choice, no regrets, love the cornering of the 4WD suspension on a twisting local road near by and the overall comfort and outward visibility.

@@sandradee7484 One final note for you Ms Sandra Dee; In the end it will all be subjective to your taste, liking and preferences, you cannot go wrong with today’s modern vehicles, they are all equipped with lots of safety features etc.
I actually sat and test drove the Subaru Outback as well, and although plenty of comfort once inside and leg room for my chubby frame I didn’t particularly care to bend my head sideways low enough to enter and exit vehicle every time, similar thing happened in the Mazda CX 5 which right alongside the RAV4 appeared cramped inside (for my taste anyway) road noise and jitters were also more noticeable in the CX 5 and the RAV4
Unless you wish to go Luxury, my money is in my daily driver now the 2023 Forester Touring, all the trimmings, easy access in and out, best visibility outwards and I don’t have to bend my neck to get in, Subaru has been making good progress and quality vehicles for many years now, the Forester is worth a look, ultimately you will be the one in the driver’s seat, so choose wisely and weight your likes and dislikes of each one, and whichever has the best likes in your opinion, that may be the one for you.
Best of luck to you, hope you enjoy your new vehicle, it’ll last you many years with proper care and maintenance…Cheers! 🍻

This is extremely helpful information for me Alex and the comments. Walking into a dealership as alone I want to know as much as possible, so they don’t think they can take advantage if I am more informed. The hatch height memory is especially useful for having a rack or dry box that is large, it’s to make sure that your rear door window doesn’t raise into your Thule, Yakima, or whatever roof storage system that you have, assuming its long enough to hang of the back of your vehicle and interfere with the full range of motion of your automatic opening of the rear door.

These are fairly obvious. You should cover the more obscure ones, like:
    - the secret unlock code on the tailgate

Of course all these are in the 10000 page owner's manual lol, but who reads THAT.

Thank you for the fantastic information. Is there anyway of having the entertainment system default to the radio screen instead of the home screen? It was set that way for a while and was great, but it seemed to have defaulted back to the home screen. Thank you in advance

Hi Alex. You seem to know a lot about Subaru's, so I hope you don't mind a random question. I have a 2011 Forester - 2 questions. Is there a way to disable the honking that accompanies the autostart? Also, is there a way to make it so that pushing the auto-lock while the drivers side door is open will NOT lock the doors?

Thanks for the tailgate tip. My wife is so short that she has problems reaching the button to close it.

Hey Alex, not sure if you read new comments on old videos but here goes nothing.
One thing I would love to see is a video on is how to troubleshoot problems connecting to Apple CarPlay. I have a 2023 Forester and one thing I often encounter is a hit or miss connection to Apple CarPlay when I plug in my iPhone.
I’ve swapped out cables. I’ve turned the car off and on, I’ve done all kinds of things, but it really seems to be a matter of chance whether or not Apple CarPlay wants to cooperate with my phone. A video on this would be very helpful. Thank you.

Hi! I check my comments often (even on older videos) but I don't always get the notifications so some of them get missed.
In regards to apple carplay, it seems as though some of the 2023 Foresters have had hardware issues. At least, I have had more than one person ask me about this issue on their 2023 Forester. Not saying this is the case, but it could be more than just the cable. Has your Subaru service department looked at it? I would continue to take it back to them until it's fixed. May even require getting a new infotainment display.

I just got a 2022 wilderness, i didnt know the backup camera would clean the lense. Thats very handy. 6+ months of the year are winter where i live and on my old car the backup camera would always get covered in snow or salt/dirt from the road and id have to clean it off with my finger, most of the time i forgot to do it.

We've had the Forester for 2 year and I learned 2 new things! Any idea why our Forester smells like a gym bag all the time? I would also love to truly be able to shut off the headlights in the off position like my Tacoma. Subaru also needs to revise the cup holders and a good place to put you phone.

I saw a few times in the dash the center screen showed when you were braking by illuminating the brake lights on the screen. Will that also tell you when one if one of your brake lights are out?

Can you give review of 23 Forester? Especially new safety, cameras etc. Trim levels included & what you can " add on" to "lover level" trim levels.
I'm also trying to figure out if the EV Forester is plug in hybrid or plug in only. I make 500 mile trips in rural & sparsely populated areas which don't have charging stations.
I want a EV & since you will have to pry my Forester from my cold dead hands I'd love for it to be EVn esp. if it qualified fit new tax credit.
I'm on my 3rd Forester-2008, 2014 & 2016. '08 saved my life once (semi cut in from in white out snow) & '16 prevented more head damage by absorbing more impact when I was rear ended.

Great vid! 👍🏽 While building the Fozzie we want, I noticed that the factory Subaru remote start MSRPs at $350. So depending on how long one plans on keeping their Fozzie, that might be a better value than Starlink. Granted, Starlink gets you so much more than just remote start, but there is a hardwired alternative :)

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 года назад +2

Yep, you're exactly right. 99% of people will find that the starlink is the better bargain. The hardwire alternative is great for those who don't have a smartphone.

Since I live in a warm climate the only thing I care about is to be able to locate the car if it gets stolen. Sucks that I have to pay the full price of Starlink subscription just for that. I think I need to find an alternate way to track my car's location.

I'd like to mention that the Auto Vehicle Hold feature can offer an unpleasant surprise if you take your seat belt off while AVH is engaged. If the seatbelt goes off, AVH will disengage and the vehicle will go into park (the parking brake is turned on rather than the transmission auto-shifting to 'P''.) I think the engine switches on if it is turned off (because of the automatic engine off feature when stopped.) It is very confusing, to say the least, when AVH switches off all because the seat belt was taken off. Trying to re-engage AVH could cause the vehicle to roll forward unexpectedly if the transmission is in D for Drive. Why would anyone want to take their seat belts off suddenly while AVH is engaged and holding the vehicle? Any number of excellent reasons. In my case I wanted to get something from my pocket and needed to take the belt off for that. Or someone in the back seat could need some quick help. Having AVH disengage on me came as an unexpected and unpleasant surprise.

When you activate the AVH, and remove your foot from the brake, do your brake lights stay on? If not, I can see someone not paying attention ramming you from behind.
