I love how the song changes to hellfire when Frollo sees the well, great use of the music and the symbolism of him approaching the monster he is at the end of the movie works great
maybe I'm reading too much into this, but can we talk about how terrible quasimodo's mother's death is? She dies trying to save her son, and she doesn't even succeed. The last thing she sees is frollo's foot and/or her baby being stolen from her. yikes.
Maybe Quasimodo's father did not think of Quasimodo as a human, as when he was crying as an infant, he referred to him as an "It". He also seemed to be particularly harsh when he ordered his wife to silence him, trying to get him to "shut up". This could either hint that he (like other people) was disgusted by his deformity and did not consider him his child, or this may have been because of the circumstances of their situation at the time.
I think that his father did not think of him as fully and was disgusted by his appearance. I think his father like other people didn’t like his appearance or how he looked so he was harsh with him. I think that his mother though was trying to silence him and he was still crying as a baby. And when she says hush little one she’s referring to her son, that’s what I think. Or even better, maybe his parents forgot to name him when he was first born so after he was born shortly after they were walking into Paris France, and his parents had no time to give him my name so his mother just said hush little one because she needed to address her son by something rather than in it like his father did. So I’m gonna say that if his parents forgot to name him because they were too busy trying to move to Paris with their son, that could be why his parents dressed him the way they did. That’s just my opinion. I also like to believe that if they were his parents, his father could have a been having a different kind of skin color and or have been possibly Irish or Scottish just my guess. I mean if both his parents were Romani, they could’ve possibly had darker skin than he did and he would’ve come out with lighter skin and ask for the red hair, I’m going to assume that that happened because of a genetic mutation. Because there are different types of mutations that can happen in the genetic system so one of them could possibly be for someone having red hair. And also for the deformities I like to believe that he had also a medical condition that happened. I think that Quasimodo was born was a medical condition of sorts which caused his deformities otherwise his appearance. But back then people didn’t know about this kind of science or genetic theory knowledge so people just assume certain things without having any scientific evidence to back it up. But from a scientist POV here, I like to believe that the deformity was all because of DNA mutation and the light skin is all because of less melanin and the red hair is also because of mutation and the deformity can be talked down to medical condition. But that’s just from a scientist POV and I am not a biologist or anything but I did learn this in my biology class last year at high school so I thought this was interesting and I thought I should point it out. And again if his parents had dark skin and were Romani, the light skin could’ve been very possible so yeah maybe his father was possibly Irish or Scottish. Which could cause this. But I just thought I should pointed out to you guys in the comments and I wanted to give a more scientific background on what I think it could’ve been the conditions of Quasimodo. Because I learned this stuff in biology class I learned about genetic mutation and I thought it was interesting and I said I’m gonna point this out to you guys in a Disney movie that I think it’s one of my favorites for a good reason. Because most people think that they weren’t his real parents but I’d like to digress and say that they were his parents but a lot of genetic complications happened which caused people to question in the comments where they his parents so yeah. If they were though I’m going to chalk it all down to a bunch of complications happened when Quasimodo was born and all went down into what we know is the huntchback of Notre dame.

So I looked up the Latin chorus and... Solvet saeculm in favilla Dies irae, dies illa Kyrie Eleison Translates to: Dissolve the world in ashes That day is a day of wrath Lord have mercy Holy crap. definitely one of the more spine chilling Disney songs.

While Frollo chases the Gypsy woman, we hear the chant “Dies Irae,” meaning “day of wrath”. One might assume the Day of Judgment is for the Gypsy - but in reality, it is the Day of Judgment for Frollo. This is his test, to see if he will choose mercy over his twisted sense of justice. But ultimately, it is this event which brings Quasimodo into his life, and a series of events that will lead to Frollo's doom.

Frollo is without a doubt my favorite Disney Villain. He's pretty much everything wrong with the world, someone who uses religion to justify his own cruel inhumane crimes thinking he's a warrior for God. Tony Jay's voice is amazing, how can anyone not be intimidated by that deep ass voice lol
The really sad thing about Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, is the man who was with Quasimodo's Mother, Florika, was Jehan Frollo, younger brother of Claude Frollo and Quasimodo's Father. This means that Claude Frollo had his own brother and his adopted son's father, wrongfully arrested and executed. That right there, is a true monster.
You are referring to the musical stage play which has Quasimodo related to Judge Claude Frollo. In the novel Quasimodo is a foundling abandoned on Notre Dame doorstep. In the movie Frollo kills Quasimodo mother and reluctantly takes Quasimodo in for fear of his soul
So I love how frollo thought it was stolen goods but when he figured out it was a baby ooh . And sanctuary should have gave them sanctuary because why not
The name seems too cute for a scary and intimidating-looking horse. But since Frollo still believes he's one of the good guys, he thinks "Snowball" is a good name for any horse.

Our minds had no idea how serious and dark Disney movies were back when we were kids, it was like they created a barrier to protect us from the dark truths and scenes in these movies..........
Can we just appreciate how unlike most villains in Disney, Frollo really killed the woman by accident and was horrified and instead of killing the “deformed baby gipsy” he saw in Quasimodo, he kept it as some form of penance? when people understood media literacy we had masterpieces like this
Quasimodo’s mother is one of the prettiest animated characters I’ve ever seen
Isn' t she beautiful? I always come back to her design when animating.
A truly beautiful woman, her death was as shocking as it was tragic.
I'd love to write a character inspired by her, this film is just amazing overall.
@@savage_aquamarine5100rofl
The music here this aggresive loud scary majestic. Masterpiece
1:11 that horse was the precursor to Shadowmere in Skyrim xD
How frollo push Quasimodo's mom give me the chills and her death was definitely one of the most tragic ones out of all parents death oh gob one was the third most sad one the second was cakchals Tarzan gorilla dad and the first you all know who mufasa's death god why
You know you love your child when you manage to out run a horse
Not so much outrun as out-dodge it. She had a head start
@@girl1213 you usually won't be able to outrun a horse In snow even if you had a head start also she did all that while in a dress in the snow and on top of that with a child
Fr. It was snowing too. She could've slipped and killed Baby Quazi.
@@Savagery21plus she was wearing flats
1:02 I never noticed Dies Irae playing in the background before- what a nice touch
I love the mother still loves her child despite his appearance. A mothers love is so pure, from the start it rips away all prejudice of gypsies being evil and all that nonsense
Please refrain from calling them that word as it is a racial slur. The people are called Romani.
1:02 Let the chase begin!
HOND funfact: Frollo's horse is named Snowball....
Tafami OMG THAT'S SUCH A SCARY NAME FOR A MAN THAT WANTS TO KILL ALL 'CORRUPT' (CAN YA KILL MEH DAD?) xD
Tafami How do you know if that's True!?
If I was the writter of the movie I would have named it "Napoleon."
@@penny1545 How about Romulus?
@@penny1545 well that would be inconvenient
Napoleon was in 1700s
And Frollo was in 1482
The song and story is stuck in my head now. Yay xD
Definitely one of Disney’s underrated films. Yes it’s darker but that’s why I love it. Not the usual lighter fair like TLM or Aladdin.
I just found this movie when searching Best movies of all time, I wish I was born sooner
When were you born exactly?
@@courtneycook7910I won’t say for privacy reasons, but I’m in middle school, so yeah, definitely wasn’t alive during this movie’s release
@@theanomaly_10 I was only 1 and a half years old when it was released
Frollo is without a doubt my favorite Disney Villain. He's pretty much everything wrong with the world, someone who uses religion to justify his own cruel inhumane crimes thinking he's a warrior for God. Tony Jay's voice is amazing, how can anyone not be intimidated by that deep ass voice lol
1:44 That's just sick
What?
Look at Frollo's horse eyes at 1:12, they're just all white
It's weird because he does have visible pupils in a few scenes, but then in others they just gave him those demonic empty eyes.
Ethan Peterson The devil.
Yay I was going to put that in the comments he does not have eyes just white
Well, it’s name is Snowball. Gotta be white somewhere

Love the choir at 1:24.
the darkest disney movie of all time..frollo is my favorite disney villain with scar
This movie is dark as hell but I love it. I remember as a kid I was simultaneously in awe and also scared of the movie.
That was in the novel. The movie is quite a bit different
In the novel yes, but in movie has taken out that relation. The "evil uncle" is an over-used trope like "wicked stepmother"
You are referring to the musical stage play which has Quasimodo related to Judge Claude Frollo. In the novel Quasimodo is a foundling abandoned on Notre Dame doorstep.
In the movie Frollo kills Quasimodo mother and reluctantly takes Quasimodo in for fear of his soul
this hits so hard it’s beyond belief
1:33 love this shot. it looks like an old painting
My sister loved frollo’s horse.
I love this Movie
So I love how frollo thought it was stolen goods but when he figured out it was a baby ooh . And sanctuary should have gave them sanctuary because why not
It's implied they would have been given protection and aid, the priest just couldn't get to the door in time
The Archdeacon was roused to answer her pounding on the door, but though he was too late to save her, he arrived just in time to save Quasimodo.
I can’t believe Frollo named his horse “Snowball“
The name seems too cute for a scary and intimidating-looking horse. But since Frollo still believes he's one of the good guys, he thinks "Snowball" is a good name for any horse.
@@shanefraley827 Most likely that horse previously belongs to someone else.
01:13 I fell in love with him.
what lmao
hell and you're not the only one 😂 that's one handsome looking dude
@@vampirecynder2547 You too? Thank Maria! I thought I was the only one who thought he was a jilf!

Best villain introduction ever.
Oh my god! I’ve never noticed before that he outright kicks her….i always thought she just lost her grip and fell back but no he kicks her with all his strenth
Sometimes this song just pops into my head. (I mean I ain't complaining).
1:39 when mom said to clean your room but it's already clean
Frollo: A baby? (Gasp) A monster!
Fun fact: His mom runs track so that's how she can run so damn fast.
i run track and cross country and i WISH i could outrun a freaking galloping horse
I believe that frollo is villain in this movie because he called Quasimodo a monster because he was disfigured, but I think he was born with a hunchback, his own mother died trying to save him from him, but he deserved to die at the end of the movie because he kept him from the outside world beyond the notre dame canedral.
0:28 Judge Claude Frollo!
Before PXAR did Up,
THIS was the movie intro that made me cry
1:45 Probably one of the darkest scenes in any Disney movie, including non Disney movies on Disney+.
She sacrificed herself for her son only for the man who killed her to groom and convince said son that she abandoned him. How screwed up is that?
But she did save him. Had she not banged on the door and yelled for help Frollo wouldn't have been stopped from killing him.
@@rosesweetcharlotteHowever, the Archdeacon shouldn’t have Frollo raise the child following the incident. After all, Frollo is the last person anyone could trust.
@@makototakara7025 I imagine he thought it would be good for Frollo and it would give Quasimodo access to an education and support he probably wouldn't have otherwise
@@rosesweetcharlotteAnd yet, Frollo is still cruel and ruthless.
Why on Earth are you throwing a baby into a well?! Not only is it a monstrous act against a human being, but a dead baby in a well will definitely poison the drinking water.
1:22 the pure terror in her voice haunts me…
One of the best Disney movies I’ve ever seen❤️
0:36 that horse has a better weave than I do XDXDXD
They say women are weak..
But mothers are strong
Well she died trying to save her son so I'd say mother's are strong
My man frollo was really boutta toss a wholeass baby in a water well
When he said "a tale of monster", the screen went dark, and I saw the reflection of my face and scared the crap out of myself
0:22 Ok, props t' this bloke for shielding Quasimodo's mum!
That was his father. At least I think.
Anybody notice the horse doesn't have pupils at 1:11 ?
1:34 how did she die instantly?
Archana Radhakrishnan she hit her head against the stairs, probably went unconcious and died from the cold?? She could have breoken her neck...
That is frozen over concrete, plus he kicked her seriously hard to land on it with her skull.
+Arch Radhakrishnan She broke her neck.
Crushed skull
+WitchVine oh
Our minds had no idea how serious and dark Disney movies were back when we were kids, it was like they created a barrier to protect us from the dark truths and scenes in these movies..........
Can we just appreciate how unlike most villains in Disney, Frollo really killed the woman by accident and was horrified and instead of killing the “deformed baby gipsy” he saw in Quasimodo, he kept it as some form of penance? Unlike Scar who killed Mufasa outright or Hades who tried to get rid of Hercules multiple times and so on, he had a genuine human reaction even for a villain
Clopin: She Ran! 0:59
I love frollo
1:33 very fitting placement of the Dies Irae notes.
Is Frollo” s horse called Snowball by any chance?
The horse looks it wants to kill me
1:12 That was ruthless.
1:55 😊
I want to know what his horses name is. Thing looks more evil than he does.
You are going to love this: from what I heard, its called Snowball.
I could watch this prologue over and over again. It's so good.
1:35 “A baby?” 1:38 “A MONSTER!”
Reflection on one’s beliefs and actions, and true honesty with oneself
That’s how you prevent yourself from becoming as evil as Frollo
Frollo views himself as a hero, it’s what many of us do
It takes courage and honesty to admit when your actions have become corrupt
Frollo was a coward, a liar, a monster, and all because he never took a look at himself from outside of his own perspective
edgiest disney movie
PokemonFerretGirl AJ and also one of the greatest.
