About Me
“The world needs more makers.” ~ RoyerX
Being from a family of creatives whose motto was to produce not to consume was etched into Kyle from a very early age and being educated at home gave him many opportunities to work hard at his own creative pursuits.
At eighteen, Kyle graduated high school and two weeks later received his Journeyman Smith Stamp and a rare double win of the George Peck Award and Bill Moran Award, “the 18-year-old prodigy”, “the blazing bladesmith” was what BLADE Magazine labeled him. Following that victory in November 2009 BLADE Magazine ran a special five-page spread “That Young and That Good”, the article went on to say “His ability to masterfully execute new designs, processes and artistic damascus patterns is remarkable. In spite of his young age, his fit/finish and attention to detail is representative of some of today's most known and sought after makers.” He was one of two to achieve Mastersmith by the age of twenty. His knives and his skills are highly sought after worldwide.
In the early years, if you weren’t at a knife show or a hammer-in, learning from the masters, information was hard to find, there was no online content and only a few books and videos, so it was a lot of trial and error in the knife shop. Kyle is passionate to teach makers his more than fourteen years of experience.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” We hope we can inspire you on your maker’s journey.
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for, the pattern reveal
I watch these with my kid. She loves it so much we started doing it. These videos are the absolute pinnacle of quality craftsmanship. Maybe another generation will continue to carry on with these skills.
Did you guys start making knives. That’s crazy cool. Good to have you all are hanging out together. Love it. Say hey to your daughter from Team Royer. 👍🏻🔥☕️⚔️
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives Thank you Sir. She is 10, so we are a bit limited on the complexity of projects. She has been making leaves and experimenting with different shapes. She will try to make a knife this winter.
This is one of the most beautiful swords i've ever seen. The pattern is just stunning. I have no words for it. Absolutely beautiful piece art.
Thanks Rogue
Kyle
You guys are one of the only content creators I drop everything I'm doing to watch.
Thanks Breakaway. Glad you’re here enjoying the vids. Chao 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
That is hands down the most beautiful blade I’ve ever laid my eyes upon holy moly. Really looking forward to seeing the completed sword!
Haha I was hoping you'd scoop up the etch coffee, you absolute madlad! It is very humanizing to see that the Master Smith (impressive title) behind these world class blades is just a regular guy goofing off in his garage. That's why I love this channel. Keep it up guys! :D
Hey thanks Redmar. That’s pretty much what happens from day to day. Sometimes there are tears shed as well. Good times my friend 👍🏻🔥☕️⚔️
Dad
This channel deserves so much more attention. The content quality here is so so high!
Thanks Rory
Kyle
Yes! I had just finished the last part and was bummed out that I would have to wait for the next one. Boom, you uploaded it whilst I was watching, this is a GOOD DAY!
Big fan. I watch all your uploads
I could have never imagined my favourite case modder and knife maker meet in one comment section :o Love both of you :)
Good to have you here. Glad you’re enjoying the vids 👍🏻🔥☕️⚔️
Dad
One of the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, besides my mirror reflection
@@KyleRoyerKnives when's the next video Mr royer. Hope everything is ok with the family
Every time I watch one of these I'm blown away by the videography.
Who knew sanding could be so intense?
Thanks 112...
The only man on earth that saciate my infinite thirst for damascus swords. Unreal the talent of this guy. Love It.
Feeling the love my friend. Good to have you on this journey together with us all 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
My lord Kyle!!! Your blades are truly on another level! I enjoy watching your videos more than any others on RUclips. You inspire me so much to become a better knife maker. Thank you for all you share with us! -Mike
Hey thanks Mike and you’re welcome. Glad we’re reaching out and up in your skills. You go find others to share your skills with also. It’s more fun when you bring people along with you. Keep Forging On my friend 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
That is the most beautiful pattern I've ever seen. It fits the blades topography perfectly.
If there were "Best of the Best" RUclips maker awards, Kyle definitely deserves one for this series! Amazing and inspiring work - thanks for having us along for the ride!!!
Good to have you hanging out with us all Richard. Cheers from the Ozarks 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
Kyle, this is an amazing sword, your talents know no bounds.
Thanks rhodie
Kyle
Man I would love to see you work on a Japanese style sword!
Yes, I totally agree!!! A Japanese Katana next!!!! To see how he would do the damascus pattern!!!
I'd love to see his take on the parts of a katana. Imagine a tsuba in mild steel with his black mirror finish and gold inlay work! Even if the blade was purchased but the rest was made by Kyle, that would be so cool!
@@ericwilliams7374 A damascus pattern katana??? ummmm, I dunno... certainly would be at least original...
@@charlieoronzon7108 if you really think about it, every Katana ever made has some sort of "damascus pattern" to it. They just never "enhanced" it, or put the katanas through an "acid bath" to bring out the patterns. You can see the "clay pattern" the most. Then also, think about how many times the sword makers fold the steal!!?? They just polish the steal to give it a mirror like finish. This I'm sure you already know.
Yeah, some may think that it would be weird, or too hard to put an "even" damascus pattern on a Katana, but I'm sure Kyle can figure it out and come up with something.
The way I have a damascus pattern katana visioned in my mind, it looks beautiful!!!!
Trust me, I've done a little home work on katanas.
@@ericwilliams7374 Here I'm using "damascus" as "mosaic" given that that's what Kyle exceeds in, and how his only two swords are made. And it will certainly be unique, a distinct technical feat (differential HT in a mosaic? ummm...never seen that) and for my taste, probably aestetically dubious... tho maybe him can pull it out, lol. Now, if we get technical, a folded steel sword has nothing to do with that, for starters because katanas are mono-steel and what's folded is a billet of just one steel (let's not get into san-mai construction & like, irrelevant here...) so there can't ever be the contrast resulting of two entirely different steels of opposite colors once acid etched. The hamon (and sometimes the hada too) are strictly a result of the heat treating, not the artisan playing with pre-designed geometric patterns like Kyle. And now let me be a bit of an asshole and recommend you to keep doing your homework, because I think you are mixing concepts like mad, my man... :p
Yo, Kyle and Freerk Weringa are the best blade smiths on RUclips.
Thanks Nevin
Kyle
It is truly an heirloom blade. One that any father would be proud to pass down to future generations. A family treasure.
One of the better makers/build series I've watched. Excellent cinematography, well edited, and the blade is beyond compare both visually and mechanically
Hey thanks Brant
Kyle
I would absolutely get lost staring at the insane beauty of that blade! It’s the most incredible blade that I’ve ever seen!
A huge thank you to the entire Royer family for these awesome videos! Beautiful work, Kyle! You too, Josh!
Thanks Luke. Will tell entire crew. Keep Forging On my friend 👍🏻🔥☕️⚔️
Dad
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SWORD I HAVE SEEN. I HAVE SEEN MANY. That blade is 10,000% AWESOME
Your not just a blade smith.... you're a magician!!! You can't sell this thing! It belongs in a museum. 😮
I see many videos of forging works and in particular I like those of damascus steel. Others' damascuses are beautiful, but the designs look random. Your damascuses are geometrically perfect, truly of another level of performance. No doubt, you are the best..
Hey thanks Steven
Kyle
Out of this world. What a piece.
The mark of a good man/ RUclipsr. Replies to as many comments as he can
Copy that my friend. Be safe and be careful. Cheers from the Ozarks 👍🏻🔥☕️⚔️
Dad
That blade is amazingly beautiful. Stunning.
The way you got that to curve on the pattern is amazing. I have never seen that. Truly a master smith
That etch came out so breathtakingly beautiful I've had to watch this a few times. Serious props my dood, just wow...
Thanks Philie

Jumpin' Jehosophat, that is beyond beautiful! Every second you lavished on this build shows.
Hey thanks Bryson
Kyle
The pattern feels otherworldly and organic at the same time. The finish is just insane....
Hello.
At the age of 55, I have recently become interested in blacksmithing and am currently in the process of setting up a small forge. Given that I have done no small measure of research into the art of blacksmithing, I can safely say that the pattern on Excelsior is the most exquisite I have yet witnessed and, I suspect, will remain so for some time to come.
Brilliant Sir, simply brilliant!
Eagerly awaiting the next installment...
Hey thanks Starr. We’re currently putting the final touches on a new online course
“The Beginner Bladesmith”. Kyle shows in detail how to build an awesome everyday cary with out a lot of expensive power tools. It’s a great beginner class. Check out learnknifemaking.com
There’s also an intermediate - advanced online course “How to build a Bowie “
Cheers from the Ozarks my friend
Dad
I am in awe with this pattern. This in my opinion is the benchmark for mosaic pattern Damascus. It's beautiful and soothing to look at. Can't wait to see it finally finished.
Hey thanks Shootn
Kyle
omg that pattern pure art
I would say you are on another level but in reality you are in your own universe! Stunning work!
You never fail to impress with your exceeptional craftsmanship Kyle. It seems every time you really put your energy into what you're making, you some how manage to out do your previous best work. I honestly don't know how you do it.
Hey thanks Andy Man

The blade looks as epic as it's named! Just WOW! What an exceptional piece of art!
Thats the most amazing looking damascus iv ever seen and the sword blade OMG
Love how the editing has change and the classical music over timelapses
This is one of only two channels I check everyday for new content. Oh, and that pattern is simply majestic.
That blade is gorgeous! Can't wait to see the blued guard and fittings. Looks like a hero sword from a fantasy film. Weta Workshop needs to bring you in on a film. Just perfect.
Thanks Sanguine

The pattern is outstanding! 😲😲😲 I'm freaking out 😲 just wow...
That is a beautiful blade, truly a work of art.
That damascus blade is awesome.
What a beauty! I love watching Blacksmithes making Swords or other blades of Damascus Steel. But yours is the most awesome I´ve ever seen!
I love the pattern on the last sword a lot. But this one after darkening in coffee looks amazing!!! Almost like a wave going down the blade.
Man is a true artist.
El Damascus mas perfecto que he visto en mi vida... Excelente...

That Sword blade is Masterpiece !! So Beautiful !! Cant wait to see the sword complete.
Although it was a time lapse I learned a lot on how you met your corners and your golden lay very impressed
Just wanted to say that’s is a pleasure watching you work.
I wasn't sure before but now I think Kyle may be my favorite 'youtuber'.
Thanks Kurt. Feeling the love. May the Forge Be With You my friend 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️

That has to be the most spectacular pattern forge welded Damascus I have ever seen on one of the best finished swords. Amazing.
Congratulations Kyle!!! That is a really beautiful piece of art in the form of a Sword.
Thanks Henrique
Kyle
You may have some of the best sense for Damascus pattern laying ive ever seen. Amazing job stacking that pattern, the way it turned out was breathtaking with the stars and waves running alongside the fuller with the vertical pattern contrasting along the inside.
Best part of my week is when you upload.
Thanks my friend
Such a talented master craftsman...thank u sir for all the videos, start-finish...there are no words to express the expertise and precision...
Thanks Mike
Kyle
Josh, you are doing a fantastic job.
Kyle,
Could you do all of us (and particularly you) a favor and buy one of those red, double walled, metal cabinets for storing all your hazardous liquids? I really don’t want to hear a news story about how your entire house and shop burned down because a spark reached a can of solvent. Thanks.
Completely amazing. That's one beautiful blade!
Hey thanks Rick. Good to have you hanging out with us all 👍🏻🔥☕️⚔️
Be careful and be safe
Dad
that pattern is some next level stuff. i couldnt keep my jaw in place. it just dropped. amazing, amazing job.
Hey thanks Douglas

Wow! Excellent cinematography as well. You guys are the top of your game...can’t wait for the next chapter?
Thanks Richard.
Kyle
You make such beautiful works of art.
Amazing! Absolutely stunning!
Thanks Tyrell
Kyle
That’s got to be the most beautiful pattern welding sword ever made.
Holy Molly, this sword is a master piece. Kyle Royer, you did an an excellent job many thanks for sharing. I really want to see you make a Japanese Sword with Damascus Steel, maybe this for another project. again thanks
I saw the teasers on Instagram it’s a amazing work of art 😍🥰
Absolutely EPIC build.
Your work is just unbelievable beautiful. Can’t say “you’re a master” cause you are and no need to say it or point it out. I remember seeing you in blade mag as a high school kid. One day I will be on your level if I ever take the plunge to start my abs journey smith. I recently found (2days ago) your videos not knowing you did videos researching coffee etch. I’m surprised you haven’t done mokume gane fittings.
Hey thanks Gary. Don’t put off starting. Start today. You won’t regret it. You can do it my friend. 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
I came from UPDT, that pattern is on fire 🔥
Also this sword is a beautiful work of art! Fit for a king.

Awesome! I can't wait to see it all assembled.
Just wow!!! I think that’s my favorite pattern so far it looks kind of like a galaxy to me
