In an effort to not kill my crucibles I've learned that once it's glowing I can turn the flame down or even off while i load more cans or scrap sometimes even covering the vent, it doesn't need to be on full blast the whole time. I'll turn the fire back on if the crucible starts to go dark on the top half or when the metal on top doesn't seem to be melting as fast....Good video though, that's the one thing I haven't been patient enough with, waiting for the borax to turn to liquid to get a good coat like that, I'm going to try this today with a fresh crucible i have. Thanks for sharing, I subscribed and liked, hope that helps!
Great video In the uk borax has been banned so its pretty much impossible to get its just borax substitute anyone have any ideas if this would work the same? or anything i can use as an alternative? thanks
I thought the same mate but I managed to get some from borax direct no problem 🇬🇧 iv just tampered my crucible doing this method. Was the first time firing up my forge. Not guna lie I was a bit scared lol but it’s now calling down in the garden 👍🏽

Did you glaze your crucible with laundry detergent and how has it been since?
It worked great lasted for over a year
What can I do to cure if I dont have an oven
Use a bbq grill.
Or put it in the foundry and slowly increase the heat when your done always let the crucible cool in the foundry.
How do you remove solidified copper from graphite crucible?
The elders told me that using Borax on Graphite, you may as well just tossit in the trash.
I have had no issues with the one I have done.
Is that your misses looking on at 15mins? 😊
Yes it is
All that for ?
To make the crucible last longer. Also the boraxe helps to keep stuff from sticking to the crucible but mostly to make it last longer.
I didnt think you had to use flix on graphite
This is how i was taught to do it. My crucibles last a good while so I believe it helps.
