    Hey! I just wanted to wish you a good recovery process, and thank you for making this! While I do not agree with VATSIMs decision to start this CTAF stuff, especially with a lack of any documentation, this video really cleared it up for me.

    Basically doing as already established, just using airport frequencies instead of the general VATSIM Unicom. I can see them wanting to add this realism to the network, however, knowing how people are, I can see this taking a while to implement. Also, generally when I'm not talking to controllers, I generally use the text box so that way my intentions and message can't be confused and thus never used the "traffic please advise" phrase. Wasn't aware it was a frowned upon phrase, though glad I never developed that habit of using it.

      Why if there's not atc on you'll use ctaf to depart the airport once you get within controllers range they will pick you up. That's the way it should be anyways

    • @Azchk
      @Azchk 6 месяцев назад

      @@joshmcaninch6420 That's correct for ATC being offline, but if ATC is online, you wouldn't be able to depart IFR unless you obtain a clearance before takeoff. You could of course depart VFR, and then pick up your clearance while in the air.

    • @joshmcaninch6420
      @joshmcaninch6420 6 месяцев назад

      @Azchk correct but since they asked about non controlled they'd have to wait til center or top down became available otherwise it's ctaf

    • @wings023
      @wings023 6 месяцев назад

      @@joshmcaninch6420by "uncontrolled" i meant untowered, sorry i should've clarified. i'm referring to the same idea as @Azchk here

    Will we be able to hear other pilots on Vatsim who are on the same CTAF channel? I currently never hear any other (Vatsim) pilots who are announcing intentions on Unicom 122.800? I hear other pilots on Unicom when actually flying --but not on Vatsim. Thanks for the update on CTAF! I just stumbled on your channel!

    Thanks for the video! A few questions - 1- Why have instrument pilots get the CTAF from something other than the sectional (like the VFR pilots do) Wouldn't that better guarantee that all CTAF pilots are on the same frequency? 2- If the airport itself isn't staffed (in the case of a towered airport), but maybe it is overlapped with APP/DEP/CTR Controller, would we coordinate with them, or use CTAF? I assume that if you are IFR (and have APP/DEP/CTR available) you would stay with them, but what about VFR? Do I contact APP/DEP/CTR or stay with CTAF?

    So at towered airports is CTAF always going to be the tower freq or could it be different?

    So if the airport indicates 122.800 for CTAF that is the frequency we use? Reason I am asking I recently was approaching to a airport (KSAL) I frequently fly into, which indicated 122.800 as their CTAF, shortly after making my radio position/intention announcement (blind annoucement) I was chastised by ATC controller that I was communicating information on the wrong frequency?

    • @TheJerseyAviator
      @TheJerseyAviator  4 месяца назад

      KSAL? You sure that’s the identifier? If it’s a class D or C and the controller is on you talk to them. But if it is an uncontrolled airport and it’s 122.8 you transmit on that. ATC we don’t monitor CTAF so you may have accidentally mistuned the radio and ATC still was on the frequency

    Hey Joe awesome to see you doing well man. I would like to ask a question and or point something out. Seem the west coast major airports do not have the CTAF listed as you showed for those of us on Navigraph. Do we use the tower freq when no Vatsim staff is online or do we need to dig deeper to find the freq? A few of us ran into this last night before all the controllers came online flying into out of KLAX and KSFO. We found 2 different freqs for KSFO that "could" be CTAF but were unsure which to use. Is there a specific place to locate them in all the charts or maybe an alternate phrasing used for CTAF?

    • @TheJerseyAviator
      @TheJerseyAviator  5 месяцев назад

      Use the VATSIM AIP - They have designated which frequency to use. It bridges the VATSIM-ISM

  • @TheGamingTechs
    @TheGamingTechs 6 месяцев назад

    Should I monitor CTAF on COMM1 and also monitor 122.8 on COMM2 for any pilots that aren't using the frequency correctly? Also, on a IFR flight from say JFK-LAX, when I depart from Kennedy on 119.1, what frequency do I go over for departure, and for the cruise?

    • @TheJerseyAviator
      @TheJerseyAviator  5 месяцев назад

      You could use Air to Air in this case i suppose 122.75 which is typically for private fixed wing aircraft in cruise

    18:36 no Altitude report?

    • @TheJerseyAviator
      @TheJerseyAviator  5 месяцев назад

      Calls on CTAF Rarely require Altitude callouts unless it makes sense... if there are 5 airplanes in the pattern and you are going to be climbing out of the pattern saying 'airport traffic cessna 123SP left downwind RW 32 at 1100 climbing 3000 feet departing the area to the east airport traffic' is not unheard of
