Thanks man!!! Excellent video. My kid does not know anything mechanical so it was nice of you to explain everything. Loved the rubber grommet in the spark plug socket. Kids need to know this stuff!
You should change the PCV (oil control) valve at the front left side top corner of the engine at this time. The spark gap should be 0.032” not 0.027” that comes out of the box. I followed this, only used a tiny bit of spark plug boot protector (dielectric grease?) and torqued the plugs to about 18 ft/ lbs. After inspecting the old plugs, I was sure that I have to take each plug back out gap each and put each back. I’ll try to hold it using the spark plug socket to avoid getting grease everywhere. PS: the product page for the spark plugs mentions 0.032” gap and that’s what I measured on my old plugs too. A flathead screwdriver worked better than needle nose pliers to gently unclip the wire harness clips. I think it makes it easier to get the engine cover off if you angle the front of the cover upwards, wiggling it up and down a couple times, then down as you pull up from the back corner with your right hand pulling it off.
How often do these need to be replaced on an Ioniq? I have 190,000 miles on mines and a couple of weeks ago it started to jerk when accelerating at a stoplight and wondering if this is the cause. It is slowly getting worse. I changed the transmission fluid but it did not fix it
I tried to remove the engine cover but the top right corner won't budge. How hard do you have to yank it? I don't want to damage the cover so I just put it back on and cancel the work!
How do you reprogram a 2018 Hyundai ioniq hybrid after changing the spark plugs my father had his plugs changed shortly after the check engine light came on he took it to the dealership they said that after you change the plugs you must reprogram the car
Never heard of that. There is a “ground” you can unplug for a minute or so and it resets the computer. As for reprogramming I’m not sure. I have a troubleshooting video on this car for an engine code if you skip to the middle that’s when I unplug that ground I was talking about
Hybrid means a mixture of two things, in this case a regular combustion engine and an electric engine. Hybrid is a substitute word for “two” essentially.
At 70K mileage is too soon for replacement of spark plugs. I owned 2017 model and replaced them at 180K mileage due to misfire trouble code I got. However, 70K replacement would make the performance at its best especially with NGK OEM iridium spark plugs
Yeah, I agree. With them being hybrid the engine doesn’t actually have 70k miles so they require less maintenance. I was doing some preventative maintenance on my wife’s car and decided to knock mine out as well. Ever since 20k miles I would have a random miss on start up rarely. Like a couple times a year maybe so I figured it wouldnt hurt changing them and then it would be nice to make a video to hopefully help someone else out.
Lol I get it but I’m telling you what’s a necessity, not what I have. If you want to do it with a drill than feel free to buy one. This is geared towards those who have little experience and possibly little tool count.
@JoKeRTechz yeah, makes sense but if that were actually true then showing them how it's done with the use of hand tools might have been more appropriate. Still good video.
Glad I watched this first, this is so much simpler of an operation than it has been on past cars.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback
Thank you so much... it allows a single mom to take care of what's needed verses paying 600 to dealer.
Thank you for this very illustrative video
You’re welcome!

Great video dude, I just need to change mine in a couple of days. You helped me
Thank you for the video and the link to the sparkplugs. I just ordered mine in Canada
Good luck 🤙
Great video thanks I've got a 2020ioniq about a year now it's got 60k on it so I will be doing that pretty soon
Thank you for the video! Successfully changed my spark plugs :)
Good work , how many volts does the car need , I use ngk 93819
Yo appreciate this one frfr bro
Hey no problem! It may be intimidating to think about but when I can do a step by step video, almost anyone can do it
I have the same issue as @slothypunk. The back (towards firewall) right corner (towards fuse box) won't move up.
Canadian model. 2017 hybrid limited.
Great video. The plugs should be exactly the same for the plug-in model, I'd think.
Does the plug in model have a gas engine?
@@Boost-EdAutomotive yes, it has the same engine but with a bigger 9kw hybrid battery that you can also charge.
Then yeah, should be good to go!
Great video, thanks.
You’re welcome

If you haven’t changed them then I definitely would. Hopefully it will help. 190,000 is a long time to not change them
Yes change it cuz I’m sure you have misfire and engine code should also show up on your dashboard
I have the same problem but I have the 2019 ioniq with 62k miles. I hope it's the sparkplugs because that's what I'll be changing soon.
@@BAKED_P0TAT0e-d1 60K is kinda early though to change it but try it anyway…most likely it is
@@leetos.4915 that's what I'm thinking but I might as well since I have to do the maintenance on it anyway.
Do you have a link to those spark plugs? I tried searching but getting different results

Thx bro , can I use NGX 7090 spark plugs on ionic hybrid 2020
I replied to your other comment on what plugs I used
Thank you so much. Very helpful. I have the same car.
Thank you! I’m at 100k miles now. Still doing well 🤙

Sometimes it’s a little hard and sometimes it’s not. Give it a wiggle. Look around for anything stuck in that area
What type of NGX do u use on the car

These are what I used
Nice video .Thanks
Is there a torque rating for the spark plugs or just hand tight?
Hyundai recommends 15-21 ft/lbs. I like to stay on the lower end of torque spec for spark plugs

3:49 that pop
Macaroni noises 😅
If its hybrid why does it need spark plugs?
Because it has 2 engines! Which just sounds terrible from a mechanics perspective 😅😂

Trust me, my 2019 is throwing a misfire code and it is at 58,000.
Mine just showed misfire code today lol
Mine did a week ago I actually made a video about how to diagnose it. I need to upload it
@user-nt2iq7lx8m yes, please do
What the spark plugs model?
NGK Laser Iridium Plug Number ILKR8Q7 Spark Plug - 93819
What gap did you use?
Just the way they come
Canadian dealership just quoted me $ 275 to replace them , I just about asked him if he was high !
They quoted me $600 for the 30,000 mile “tune up” (plugs, air filter, cabin air box and fuel additive lol
Thanks
Np man! Hopefully helped you get through it. Sometimes the task can seem overwhelming
good stuff
Thank you 🙏
You did not put the required dielectric grease in each boot. Bad install that makes.
For sure! I’ve never used it but I would never tell anyone specifically to not use it
These plugs have specs torque. 15 to 21 lbs.
Good looking out. I’m just showing how easy it is to do the job. I didn’t research all the torque specs and other caution notes.
All tools you need: 10mm, ratchet, spark plug socket
"Okay so pull out your drill"

For sure. I’m just spoiled with the tools I’ve accumulated over the past 12 years. I’ll keep that in mind for my next how to
DON'T change while engine is WARM!!! Danger Will Robonson!
Haha definitely suggest a cold engine while changing
