  • How does he do it? Daniel Harel has been practicing and performing Mind-reading shows for over a decade. For the first time Daniel reveals how he does it and how he invents new ideas using a secret method that even you can apply to your life!
    Daniel Harel is considered a pioneer in the world of deductive mind reading, or what is also known as mentalism. As a performer and creator Daniel has developed a unique method called Deductive Mind-Reading, which is based on his keen ability to draw incredible conclusions from the subtlest of hints. Daniel has special insight on how we are still conned, our needs are manipulated, false hopes are given and our money is taken from us, even in today’s real-time information based society.
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    Hm, let me think:
    - problem: I need money
    - what everybody else do? work hard to earn it
    - what would be a crazy idea to get money? just get it out of thin ear
    - now, how can it be possibly done? combine the previous answers: let's work to make money out of thin air. Oh, that's how the idea to sell canned high quality air was born :D

    He's basically reading mental impressions popping up in his mind and the best way to get clarity is for the girl to "let go", thus he diverts her attention, so he's hitting 2-birds with 1-stone.
    "Yes" Jonathan Charles, Derren IS way ahead of the game because Derren planned his process ahead, thus he learned Hypnosis, which enhances your mentality, AND he just ran with it, thus learning from so many mistakes, buy yet exceeding in his success on his end results!

    Interesting. At first I was annoyed that he didn't explain some of his tricks. The PIN I understood, the name of the cat I did not. And then it struck me. He explains in the video why he isn't going to tell us the specifics of how it's done. Think back to three points.

    His questions to her between guessing letters started, "Are you..." and "Oh, did you..." Notice it sounds like he's saying the letter "R" and "O". So, he's looking at her expression and feeling her hand reacting to those letters. When she hears the start of that sentence, she doesn't know yet that the "R" sound is going to end up being the word "are" in a sentence, so if that's the right letter she will react in some way.

      @@you_dont_wanna_know1969 I am kind of impressed the way people believe the whole NLP thing has found its way into the general public's 'understanding' of mentalism. Sure, you can try the occasional suggestion, but you're going to need an out, and you'll probably use it every time.

    • @you_dont_wanna_know1969
      @you_dont_wanna_know1969 2 года назад

      @@DangerfieldChris I give a lot of thought to the moral aspect of "lying" when performing. What isn't lying for a magician or a mentalist?! Even a french drop would be a lie through someone's hands, in a strict sense.
      With mentalism gets even more difficult to draw the line. Everything can get much more blurry: it does uses a lot of trickery. It does uses a lot of outs and safety nets, for the well prepared mentalists. But at the same time, it also could use a tiny bit of NLP, timings, micro expressions, cold reading, deductionism, even cumberlandism, for a lack of a better word (I hope I don't rise eyebrows with my last statement).
      So it becomes very hard for the spectator to differentiate where Reality stops, and trickery kicks in. It is the mix of all of the above, and so much more, that can create an unforgettable experience, not only for the spectator, but for the mind reader as well. All of this, without mentioning the paranormal and metaphysical aspects, that some performers do believe, and live by.
      Bottom line is: people should approach mentalism as watching a fiction movie. Beautiful. Georgeous. Impressive. But nevertheless, fiction at its most deepest core, despite there might be or not, some science and techniques behind an effect, helping out for a greater hit of wonder.

      That was all about, and you nailed it: a content about how to be original. About the performance, I can assure you, that they were not stooges. What I can not assure you, is that he achieved it, the way he tries to sell he did it (by body language, tone of voice, her nails, or even a non existing cat hair that he portrayed to hold in his hand). All of that was just an artistic deceptive presentation, with his limations, of course, as any other human being.

    Have we become such an intellectually poor society that we need to have someone at TEDx explain us what thinking outside the box is about - while giving it a new name ("irrational logic")? In addition, the description of the video talks about a "secret method". How utterly sad.

    • @DrResouler
      @DrResouler 5 лет назад +1

      Couldn't say it better, however , to think outside of any imaginary box you probably need an imaginary box of something that you do know what's included in it, else you couldn't think outside of it right? So basicaly unless you don't get up to full speed on the included things, you'll end up inside, doing the oposite thing. So what you need to do now is what you always have been doing, learn, adapt, overcome.

    The problem with most mentalists like this is that they trade one lie such as I am psychic for another I am reading your body language. The truth is it's magic. It should be performed so well that you don't need to lie to your audience.

    • @you_dont_wanna_know1969
      @you_dont_wanna_know1969 2 года назад +1

      Very well executed, and well acted up lies in a performance, can enhance the affect and effect on the audience tremendously. I'm all about lying the whole nine yards, with the purpose of hitting the hardest way possible with wonder and awe. But, here's my huge difference: I AWAYS, before or even after performing something, state clearly, that EVERYTHING they're about to see or hear from my mentalism act, it's merely an illusion and fake, and merely for the purposes of entertainment. That being said, I proceed with their permission, and star my parade of lies. It hits super hard, they know it's fake, and yet, they still love it. As Penn Gillette once said: magicians are the most honest liers. They tell you in advance they're about to lie to you, and they do. The issue comes when you try to sell something as real when is not, whitout clarifying it's all fake and part of your show. That falls even into a moral aspect that defrauds society slowly.

While you are a sympathic guy and the Routines in basic are cool, your performance is really weak and makes it hard to look. First, Magic/mentalism isnt about you, its about the magic that the other person experiences with you. Second, train your acting skillz in that specific moments a little bit, record yourself and ask yourself, if you would believe yourself? Third, for every mentalist or fan of him, its cristal clear which man you try to imitate here. Fourth, maybe its me, but what did the viewer of this talk now knew that he didnt knew before, what did he learned...? All in all that means, your own stage personality hasnt developed enough and you should think more about the spectators than yourself, in my unimportand oppinion.

    His delivery of material is very mediocre, for a TED event at least, but more than that, there's nothing unique about his style of mentalism, most modern mentalists combine multiple techniques and showmanship, and there's nothing original about his "irrational logic" method, it's called brainstorming in management and problem solving in general and while brainstorming is usually done in a group, it works just as well individually.
