  • We've finally made it to Senja.
This was THE place I was most excited to visit in Norway. And we found the most incredible hike to kick things off in this beautiful area. The notorious Husfellet Hike in Skaland. A landscape photographer's DREAM hike.
I have yet to do a sunset hike here in Europe, and this was the PERFECT hike to do so on. I've been told and have read many things and warnings about the terrain on this hike, and for good reason. I tried documenting it enough to give you some insight on what to expect, and where/how you might be able to dodge the MOST mud I've ever encountered on any hike.
I couldn't imagine doing this hike at any other time than sunset, because the views we were rewarded with will stay with me forever. These were some of the best photographs I have ever taken. Let me know what you think!
Next week is Pt. 6 and the finale of my time in Europe. I won't spoil it.. but I do something that changed my life forever in that episode. SUBSCRIBE and don't miss it!

Stunning Senja… I’ve been here last week, cloudy days, but this hike was great. Thanks for this beautiful video and photos!

Hi Elias, congrats for this very nice video. I really liked the two pictures of the Fjord. I’m going to Senja in November and I hope that I’ll be able to do this hike and the one to Hesten. The vibe will be very different since it’ll be the polar night with just a few hours of twilight, but I can’t wait anyway.

      Appreciate all that!🙂
November will be super cool though, with a higher chance of seeing the northern lights!
Be sure to check AllTrails for trail reports to see if there might be snow on the trail or not.
And definitely be careful up top of its snowy/icy conditions.
I hope you have an amazing trip!

Great video, thanks for sharing! I will be in Senja in mid November this year. I had in mind to hike to Husfjellet, if the weather is fine, to shoot the night sky/northern lights. I saw in one of your comments that you came down during twilight and that you used the headlamp at the end. Question, please: night starts at a quarter to 6pm and it goes on until 5.30am. If I go up for sunset and I stay one hour at night, in your opinion, would it be reasonable to return with head lamp plus a torch at 7pm? Moon will not be visible at that time. Thanks for your heads up!

      Thank you!
November would be so cool, I would check the trail updates on AllTrails to see what the condition is like (snow or not).
Mmmmm making it down in 1 hour in the dark is pushing it. I would say it took roughly 1.5 hours to get down? And I was cooking to catch up with Jehs since she left before me (I caught up to her the last half mile.) I would say 1.5 hours on the way down is a good time to go by

Thanks for posting this, Elias. Nice shots and great job on the video! I'll be headed there on Sept 4th this year and this is exactly what I was looking for in terms of seeing what kind of conditions I can expect. Can't wait for the trip! Very surprised at how wet that hike is in September. I have waterproof boots, so hopefully I can get through there without getting soaked. Kind of concerned about getting back down in the dark! 🫤

      Appreciate that dude!
Honestly you will be fine getting down in the dark. In September the midnight sun is still dying off so you have about 1.5 to 2 hours of twilight. I only used my head lamp at the last little bit of it. Super easy to find your way down too.
I think the mud is just from year round and it never dries out lol. From what I’ve seen online eeeeveryone complains about the mud, so I just assume it’s always there.
      Have fun on your trip!

Can you give a link to the music you were using?

Oh man, I get all the music off of a paid music platform called Artlist that licenses music and sound FX for videos.
I can try to go back and see which songs I used and link it below!
