to watch someone who actually understands the principles, feelings, nuances of vocal science have her soul touched by the unbelievable gifting and abilities of Devin Townsend is truly priceless and awesome. I just subbed!
Rebecca - your expressions are priceless. They perfectly mirror and express what you are experiencing as you listen and watch. It often begins with a sort of shock, then morphs into your being lost in the moment a bit, serene and tranquil, then a knowing smile of approval and appreciation.
According to Devin, he saw a vocal coach for one session. After assessing Devin's technique, the guy said "if you keep singing like that, you won't last another year - see me every week for lessons." Devin never went back, and has been singing the same for like 20 years since. He's just a wonderful freak of nature. Also, love the channel, love the reactions, next Devin HAS to be Death of Music Live at Plovdiv version!
Did you know that Devin Townsend and Floor Jansen (Nightwish) have a duet? It's called "Anatomy of a Nervous Breakdown: Neurasthenia", and it's so badass.
I thought you were going to say they had a love child.... And that that child was now our Lord and Savior and was going to lead us all to Nirvana on a rocket ship of love and music
11:07 and the polite, mannered, delightfully charming young lady gets that primal, goosebump inducing wash of emotion where she empathises with him as they both give in to their pain. Right there, in that moment, all British class and comportment dissolves, she lets out a muffled, guttural cry of pain, and we are human together.
Aw yes. So happy to see this. Such an incredible song. I recommend his song The Death of Music from the same show at RAH. It's one of the best vocal performances I've ever seen and I think you'd like it.
I've loved Devin Townsend for more than 15 years and everything he does is pure gold. Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend Band, Devin Townsend Project, solo material incl. Ziltoid. Check it all out. The man is a musical genius and he's sitting on a gold mine of superb music.
@@purple_rose7477 Thanks for ur comment! Gah i still come back to this live version of this song and it just so fkn perfect... Esp his vocals at around 6:30 onward...his crescendo is MAD.. His control is so so so so out of this world. Never heard vocals like that in any other metal before..any in any of the sub genres. Maynard is amazing though of course.... But man dude that part gives me total euphoria every time literal head falls back eyes close and a smile as wide as they come...its moments like that, that make me so so in love with what music can really do for the soul.
I’d recommend Death of Music from this same concert, Rebecca. Devy doesn’t have his guitar in that one & it’s just him singing with some VERY atmospheric backing from the band. It’s a very emotionally striking performance in my opinion, one of his greatest vocal performances & he was sick when he did it!
This or the Plovdiv version. Either way: exactly like you say, Devin just singing, not doing the guitar totally focussed giving everything he's got... so nerve wracking!
The first time I heard that song I think I had an existential crisis. What an amazing song. The other thing about Devin that surprises me is that somehow his singing appears to have gotten better over the years, not worse, despite his style. Im sure his range may be a little less than it used to be but his singing as a whole is as good as ever.
@@jacobv8447 I doubt it. Devin isn't growling or simply screaming, his screaming notes. Of course he's not the only one, but definitely one of the best shows.
It's funny, if you look closely at 10:08 all the way through 10:32 you can actually see her face turn red :D and she is not even singing anything. Hahaha
Thank you for reacting to that. Loved seeing how you felt and reacted when he hit those high screams. He definitely knows how to emote through his music and vocals. Keep up the good work! :)
I was SOBBING When I first listened to this version exactly where it happened to you, and I always tear up since, pure raw emotion, if you know you know. He is such a beautiful performer, He is a powerhouse of pure emotion, passion, layers and depths and have a phenomenal talent and technique, and he is extremely sexy I too think... The whole band is so tight and cohesive and clean. LOVE DEVIN. What a privilage to listen to such Devine music in our lifetime.
As a drummer I love your air drumming! Great reaction! May I suggest some great music: EPICA - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith, OPETH - Deliverance (LIVE AT RED ROCKS AMPHITHEATRE) AMORPHIS - The Bee (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)
Seriously, you are one of the best vocal coaches that have articulated Devy's techniques...he is so dynamic and while he can effortlessly switch from clean to distorted vocal, the key is in his technique and his actual vocal chords not being strained or burned out at all due to his technical abilities. I'm not a vocal coach but as a musician for me he keeps alot of his distortion off the back of his throat and more to the top of his mouth, hard for me to explain but you did a great job because Devy is so unique and diverse its hard to explain what he does.
Absolutely love Devin Townsend and this is possibly my favourite song of his. Hearing this live = genuine chills. There are so many great songs of his out there and if anyone is unfamiliar with Devin's work I urge you to check out his catalogue. The man is a musical genius.
You have to admit that Dev' is one of the most talented modern songwriter and singer. When he performs a song, it is a masterpiece. Period. Thank you Rebecca for sharing his work. It deserves so much to be even more famous.
It's always great to see Rebecca reaction to metal :D Please, react to Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars (live at Sonic Pump Studios, please !) It's an epic song, and has some similarities with Devin, since he's a big inspiration for Jari (the lead singer, guitarist, composer of Wintersun)
It’s stupid but I’m in the double digits of watching this reaction. Devin is an amazing artist and I saw him live years ago, but the emotions it pulled out of you and your entire reaction was something I found even more amazing. Seeing someone completely surrender to the music is something that can outshine the most amazing performances.
Oh dear god this is officially my favorite Chanel on RUclips now love you Rebbeca!! Please please do “funeral” from EMGtv acoustic version a new taste of Devi !
Devin makes those faces and provokes so much emotion through his music because he suffers from things most people won't have to understand, sees the world differently and tells all who are listening. I'm diagnosed High Functioning Autistic and have been a HUGE fan of SYL and DT since I was a teenager in the 90's because his journey and suffering through music spoke to me more than others who yelled MUCH louder. Ma'am, your reaction to Devin was how anyone who has ears and a soul should react. ;) This was your first video I've had the pleasure of watching and the fact that you are willing to expose yourself to new music is beautiful, there are others like Devin but none LIKE DEVIN. Thank you to all who read this. ;)
I also have autism and I can totally get where you're coming from, this is the first time hearing this guy tbh but I was lost in pearl jam and chris cornell and Alice in chains, without these bands in my life as a teenager I'd not be here now that's for sure
Well written friend. I could not agree more with you. I’ve only ever been able to relate to those who have really been through things. This song gives me goosebumps every time and even has the power to bring me to tears because I feel that passion so much from him. All too often I hear people tell me things like “I’m too passionate,” with my own music so I appreciate reading comment like yours and always getting to listen to Devin whether it’s DT or SYL. Cheers friend.
I would really, really love to hear your opinion on The Death of Music, live at the Royal Albert Hall. To me that song has the most passion and emotion in a voice that I have EVER heard.
I reacted the same way you did around 10:13! Instantly, I was in tears. My only explanation is that up until that point, we only heard those power chords sung in the lower octave, so when he jumped the octave....! And with the voice and the scream and the power and the passion and the everything about him really. I felt like I was going to literally puke my heart out of my body.
@@LaMortDeLaMusique Doesn't matter really. Mike Patton is skilled as all hell, but I like Devins voice more. I feel it's more powerful. No disrespect to Patton!

Man I miss Dimmu with Vortex and Mustis. Any of the songs with Vortex taking in the clean volcals like Progenies of the Great Apocalypse gives me chills.
@@SpykeZ0129 Me too man. They were such a crucial aspect of the Dimmu sound. Orchestras and Choirs are still not able to provide the intense goosebumps that Vortex and Mustic gave me. The band hasn't been the same since, and never will be. I'm so thankful that I got to see Dimmu live when those two were still in the band.
10:28 The moment your brain turns itself inside out! I don't want to spam, but it's absolutely amazing, and partly funny, to watch people reacting to metalbands, when thats not their comforting genre. It chills me, because I quiet lost the feeling for the power of this music and it is somekind of redemptive to see people reacting your way. This gives me back the emotion for this music. Devin Townsend is a unique artist in every kind of way and listening to his music is eargasmic. Seeing your reaction to his music gives me also another look to the world of singing, because I always played an instrument and later singing background while playing. I always understood the heaviness of making music, as a musician especially an instrumentalist, but the world of singing kept closed to me... since now. So thank you.
I think the pinnacle of Dev's emotion and vocal prowess is found even more epically in the series of songs Funeral/Bastard/Death of Music from RAB as well. That stuff moved me and gave me chills, man. Absolutely overwhelming. Devin is an extraordinary human being. One of the few that make me proud of my species.

@@IamNothingNowhere ehhh far and away, the majority of townsend's work is straight up metal, this song is no exception.
@@IamNothingNowhere he mixes a lot of sounds and styles that it would be hard to categorize in one genre but most of the part it's quite metal.
Opeth
@@IamNothingNowhere It's a little too hard to still be rock isn't it? I've always thought of them as progressive metal with ambient parts.
to watch someone who actually understands the principles, feelings, nuances of vocal science have her soul touched by the unbelievable gifting and abilities of Devin Townsend is truly priceless and awesome.
This is how immaculate conception works. Boom, pregnant from Devin Townsend.
lol
"I've never seen a face like that singing in all my life"
Welcome to Devin Town🤘🏻
I do miss his Klingon dreds though.
@@GryphonICD The skullet was amazing.
Honestly, I'd recommend the Royal Albert Hall version instead, but that's just me. It just seems like a more emotional and heartfelt performance IMHO.
@@WolfhoundMercenary totally for magical Royal Albert Hall live version 🖒 life changing moment even when you already know everything about the Dev 😄
I've seen at least a hundred reaction videos of Devin's video and Rebecca's is the Best, and yes I'm watching this again. ❣️
if only people understood how Metal has the best raw talents in music.
They'd rather listen to cardi B and Travis Scott like the scum they are.
Precise.
Lol, you don’t listen to a lot of jazz, r&b and electronica do you
yes i do @@XiyuYang
@@Ragnarockalypse it does to some extent
Did you know that Devin Townsend and Floor Jansen (Nightwish) have a duet? It's called "Anatomy of a Nervous Breakdown: Neurasthenia", and it's so badass.
I do now! Thanks!
The duet, I never thought of but need!
Check Pandemic on the DTP Deconstruction album. That's also Floor singing with Devin.
I thought you were going to say they had a love child.... And that that child was now our Lord and Savior and was going to lead us all to Nirvana on a rocket ship of love and music
I'm sure it sucks
I love your reactions! Every time I've seen Devin live I end up bawling like a baby due to the power and emotions of his vocals
Can't wait for you to hear 'Why?' from Devin's new album 'Empath'.
'Available in stores now!*' (* = if now was tomorrow.)
that is a gorgeous song. not the best album, but why? is beautiful.
Is there a live version?
@@rog2224 havent seen yet. but the album came out on friday, so give it time :)
@@rog2224 Not yet. Just got release on Friday.
why tho
Devin at his best, and a brilliant live show from royal albert hall.
and a new album on the way...ohhhhhh yes
I also loved march of the poozers from this performance. The showmanship, and his sense of humor perfectly translated into the visuals.
Omg why have i never heard of this band before???? Yay Thankyou for this video! I love finding new music to listen to, especially metal!!
It would not be hard to recommend a bunch to you! Start with Kingdom, Failure, Supercrush, Grace, Bend it like Bender
Devin is AMAZING. From Strapping Young Lad to Ocean Machine to his solo albums to DTP it’s all great
Too bad he's solo off the DTP now. He's still good. Do see him if you can
I've loved Devin Townsend for more than 15 years and everything he does is pure gold.
It’s said that after each concert, Devin’s microphone needs a cigarette 🤘🔥🔥🤘
I’d recommend Death of Music from this same concert, Rebecca. Devy doesn’t have his guitar in that one & it’s just him singing with some VERY atmospheric backing from the band. It’s a very emotionally striking performance in my opinion, one of his greatest vocal performances & he was sick when he did it!
This or the Plovdiv version. Either way: exactly like you say, Devin just singing, not doing the guitar totally focussed giving everything he's got... so nerve wracking!
@@passiondrivingDE e
Devin Townsend Project - The Death of Music (LIVE)
From the same concert at Royal Albert Hall ,eaven more emotional and stronger song.
Yes please
Yes! Much yes! I was there.... at least half the place cried.
T-H-I-S !
The first time I heard that song I think I had an existential crisis. What an amazing song. The other thing about Devin that surprises me is that somehow his singing appears to have gotten better over the years, not worse, despite his style. Im sure his range may be a little less than it used to be but his singing as a whole is as good as ever.
Rebecca: Never seen anyone with that face sing like that
Me: Welcome to Metal.
You say that like every metal vocalist can do that like Devin
fucking right
@@jacobv8447 I doubt it. Devin isn't growling or simply screaming, his screaming notes. Of course he's not the only one, but definitely one of the best shows.
im sure thaht no one make devins faces
Cant wait til Amon Amarth
Please do Devin Townsend - Higher from Plovdiv with the orchestra in an ancient roman theatre!
That is the RUclips's video with probably the uppermost view count of views coming from me...
That live set is sooooo good
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!!!!
I was just about to write the same thing! This version is absolutely nuts!
Or grace with the choir, it makes me tear up every time
Waking up to a video of Rebecca reacting to Devin? My day has been made! 😄💗
10:22 the exact moment when music hits through you. Happened to me too.
Life is pain. There is beauty in pain. There is beauty in life. Thank you Devin for reminding me of this every time you sing
10:21 And here we see Rebecca fall head over heels for good ol' Devi.
She's definitely got a crush on him haha
It's funny, if you look closely at 10:08 all the way through 10:32 you can actually see her face turn red :D and she is not even singing anything. Hahaha
Thank you for reacting to that. Loved seeing how you felt and reacted when he hit those high screams. He definitely knows how to emote through his music and vocals. Keep up the good work! :)
Yay more devy. Also yay more Rebecca!! :D
See THE DEATH OF MUSIC from the same Concert....NOTHING more to say !
haha u did the same to me from her last video... now i guess im on to the next one😂😂
Yes!
As a drummer I love your air drumming! Great reaction! May I suggest some great music:
EPICA - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith,
OPETH - Deliverance (LIVE AT RED ROCKS AMPHITHEATRE)
AMORPHIS - The Bee (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)
I love how you aprreciate the music apart from the singing, a lot of people miss that
Seriously, you are one of the best vocal coaches that have articulated Devy's techniques...he is so dynamic and while he can effortlessly switch from clean to distorted vocal, the key is in his technique and his actual vocal chords not being strained or burned out at all due to his technical abilities. I'm not a vocal coach but as a musician for me he keeps alot of his distortion off the back of his throat and more to the top of his mouth, hard for me to explain but you did a great job because Devy is so unique and diverse its hard to explain what he does.
Excellent review. You should check Devin Townsend feat Anneke van Giersbergen with song Awake ('BY A THREAD' Concert Series).
it blew me away
Absolutely love Devin Townsend and this is possibly my favourite song of his. Hearing this live = genuine chills. There are so many great songs of his out there and if anyone is unfamiliar with Devin's work I urge you to check out his catalogue. The man is a musical genius.
You have to admit that Dev' is one of the most talented modern songwriter and singer. When he performs a song, it is a masterpiece. Period. Thank you Rebecca for sharing his work. It deserves so much to be even more famous.
It's always great to see Rebecca reaction to metal :D
Please, react to Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars (live at Sonic Pump Studios, please !) It's an epic song, and has some similarities with Devin, since he's a big inspiration for Jari (the lead singer, guitarist, composer of Wintersun)
Someone gotta tell Dev that he has a playground in his mouth. He'd get a kick out of that! Lol
Lol! For sure. That sounds like the sort of zany thing he'd find funny.

Now you have to do "the death of music" from the same live or the one from live in plovdiv
Anybody else notice she dropped an F-bomb at 10:29. Devin's just that good.
THANKS for noticing! She did! And I think it's cute!
Same
Same here. The lady gets it.
Thank you to all who read this. ;)
Thank you for speaking my mind! :)
Sniff...😢beautiful.
I also have autism and I can totally get where you're coming from, this is the first time hearing this guy tbh but I was lost in pearl jam and chris cornell and Alice in chains, without these bands in my life as a teenager I'd not be here now that's for sure
Great statement you did
Well written friend.
Absolutely same, broke down in tears first time I heard that
Same to!
Every single time 😎🤘
Agreed, his music always does that to me.
It's the true passion he has. It comes through in his playing, his singing, and the entire performance. Impossible to deny that power and beauty!
this guy is one of the most amazing singers on our blue planet without a doubt
Currently, Devin has the widest vocal range in rock music. He and Mike Patton are very close in range.
I think Mike edges it with over 6 octaves. Devin's not quite over the 6 octave threshold unfortunately, but it's close.
Both are my favourite vocalists. True genius.
@@LaMortDeLaMusique Doesn't matter really. Mike Patton is skilled as all hell, but I like Devins voice more. I feel it's more powerful. No disrespect to Patton!
Devy and Mike need to collab. It may be what the world needs to reset the universe and get us back to the right timeline
@@LaMortDeLaMusique I think someone asked Devin that in a Q & A, and he got a 'no' from patton. I think it was when he preformed in finland earlier this year! Try to youtube it :)
I would like to humbly request the band Dimmu Borgir and the song Gateways played live at their Forces of the northern night show. Thanks!

❤️ your comments... 🤘😅 and now do Rob Halford: "Dreamer, deceiver"..
A true headbanger. This song embodies all that is metal. Great vocals, awesome lyrics, terrific riffs and an amazing atmosphere.
Please react to some Type-O-Negative. Peter Steele has a very unique voice that makes all the ladies swoon. I think you will love it.
Fucking agree 100%
Absolutely!
Definitely!
Love You to Death!!!
Haven’t heard type O in years! *trying desperately to find my old cds*
