OG VIDEO; • DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT...
ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

"I need a cigarette break and I don't smoke." Brilliant! I agree!!
That part made me choke on my drink. It almost went out of my nose.
That wee look into the camera make me choke on my joint 😂
What doesn't make one feel blown away by Devin Townsend? Powerful vocals, great range, viceral fry scream, emotion, humour, comanding presence, great lyricist. Plus, the charming Canadian accent, tall, lean, passionate, attractive.
That particular phrase is probably the BEST description of Devin I have ever heard! Fantastic!
No kidding, me too
Your emotional reactions to some of my favourite music is validation I never knew I needed until now.
Her emotional reaction to some piece of art I didn’t know about is validation I never knew I needed. I literally heard for the first time along with her I loved her reaction because it was almost exactly as mine... This was beautiful.
Totally agree!
OATH!
This
Absolutely
10:18 - that moment when a piece of music hits you emotionly so hard it's manifesting in a physical reaction.
I never get tired of watching that bit
"Vocal coach reacts to Devin Townsend"
Me: Hehe *click*
lol yup
lmfao i 2nd this
Lol me too. Btw how much do you love Periphery's new album, scale from wounded ox to sad Mark eating lunch alone?
Right? XD
TOTALLY lmfao
Okay, now it's quite clear. Somebody's got a crush on Devin :D
Who doesn't??
Crush..? How juvenile.
You said that like there are people who don't have a crush on him.
Is it me? It's me isn't it.
she has a cruch on all the guys who have great commanding voices ad why yes there are a fewl watch her review Tool sover..lol
“I need a cigarette and I don’t smoke” 😂😂😂😂😂 I love your personality
Rebecca is just so damn sexy !!
It's because he has "really good DICtion".
Moist
And the Greed for a Cigarette came in the Middle of the Action, not after it (as usual) :-)
This song is like standing in a waterfall while a bipolar angel serenades you
MOST ACCURATE DESCRIPTION EVER
what a great way to describe his music
wow.. exactly
*in a slow-motion waterfall, but your comment is brilliant!
😅😅😅
"Death of Music" from the same gig really impresses in total vocal control. Devin is the ultimate vocalist.
Devin and Mike Patton are my fav male vocalists for sure.
Yes! Please react to that one as well :)
Very conceptual song.. very-very! Other world stuff...
@@stevenrempel Agreed. Bruce Dickinson is my #1, followed by Townsend, Patton, Bowie, and Garm.
Rebecca is out here making all kinds of people happy! Even watching the correct version that I see everyone requesting. 👍🤘
I try. How is the mug?
@@rva muggy.
@@rva Wintersun - Time, live rehearsal @ Sonic Pump Studio pls 😎👍
he outdoes himself in the plovdiv performance but no one ever suggests it.
I don't like the plovdiv performance because RUclips fucked with the layering and the drumming is too loud. I'll agree it's a little cleaner vocally but yeah I like this one better.
Who wants to be the one to tell Rebecca that Devin was sick during this performance? haha
WHAAAAAAAAT?
Yup he was sick
For those that have listened to Devin for years, I think it's pretty clear that his voice isn't at 100%. But it is still great!nYou can hear that his voice cracks in a couple places in an unusual way, and after the huge screams towards the end, he can't go quite as clean voice again like he ususally does. Still fantastic and amazing!
@@Maggai for devin standards, yes there's a few places where he is ever so slightly weaker. but overall simply phenomenal.
@@Maggai Happens to every singer alive. He has maybe lost 10% of his power and range, max. In this particular gig, he was sick, swollen throat, coated with mucus, etc, anyone who tries singing in their car while their sick knows this.
Just in case anyone wants to know what Devin did for training his voice, it was in his own words "screaming until he tasted blood"

"I've never seen a face like that singing in all my life"
Welcome to Devin Town🤘🏻
I do miss his Klingon dreds though.
@@GryphonICD The skullet was amazing.
According to Devin, he saw a vocal coach for one session. After assessing Devin's technique, the guy said "if you keep singing like that, you won't last another year - see me every week for lessons." Devin never went back, and has been singing the same for like 20 years since. He's just a wonderful freak of nature.
Also, love the channel, love the reactions, next Devin HAS to be Death of Music Live at Plovdiv version!
Honestly, I'd recommend the Royal Albert Hall version instead, but that's just me. It just seems like a more emotional and heartfelt performance IMHO.
@@WolfhoundMercenary totally for magical Royal Albert Hall live version 🖒 life changing moment even when you already know everything about the Dev 😄
Rebecca - your expressions are priceless. They perfectly mirror and express what you are experiencing as you listen and watch. It often begins with a sort of shock, then morphs into your being lost in the moment a bit, serene and tranquil, then a knowing smile of approval and appreciation.
This is how immaculate conception works. Boom, pregnant from Devin Townsend.
lol
Rebecca: Never seen anyone with that face sing like that
Me: Welcome to Metal.
You say that like every metal vocalist can do that like Devin
fucking right
@@jacobv8447 I doubt it. Devin isn't growling or simply screaming, his screaming notes. Of course he's not the only one, but definitely one of the best shows.
im sure thaht no one make devins faces
Cant wait til Amon Amarth
Life is pain. There is beauty in pain. There is beauty in life. Thank you Devin for reminding me of this every time you sing
Rebecca: “I’m going to put up pop-ups to say something!”
Pop-up: “no”
Me:😂😂😂😂😂
See THE DEATH OF MUSIC from the same Concert....NOTHING more to say !
haha u did the same to me from her last video... now i guess im on to the next one😂😂
Yes!
10:22 the exact moment when music hits through you. Happened to me too.
Thank you for reacting to that. Loved seeing how you felt and reacted when he hit those high screams. He definitely knows how to emote through his music and vocals. Keep up the good work! :)
I love how you aprreciate the music apart from the singing, a lot of people miss that
Please do Stormbending live after this one. The way he sings that song is ridiculous.
Agree...
YES YES YES!!!! Now do The Death of Music from the same concert please!!!
Yessssssssss...... The Death of Music is a must. Just pure unfiltered Devy and tons of emotions.
Yes, I was about to recommend the same.
Holy shit what a performance.
i think she is ready.
Yes that song will change her whole life. Possibly one of the best performances ever.
Death of Music from Royal Albert Hall...that will be Devin's finest vocal
Please react to some Type-O-Negative. Peter Steele has a very unique voice that makes all the ladies swoon. I think you will love it.
Fucking agree 100%
Absolutely!
Definitely!
Love You to Death!!!
Haven’t heard type O in years! *trying desperately to find my old cds*
This is one of the most emotional songs I´ve ever heard. It absolutely gets to me in every possible way. Devin is pure talent, plain and simple.
Thank you for what you do.
You need to hear the whole Terria album of you want emotion
11:33 Passion is exactly the word I would use. He pours his soul into everything he does.
05:33 I cracked at "I need a cigarette break and I don't smoke"! 😅 We feel you!
Never gets old watching someone experience Devin :) brings a tear to the eye knowing what its like to hear that insane range and then hear it pushed further and further
I hope that we one day get to the point where it's "Vocal Coach Reacts to Devin Townsend Reacting to Vocal Coach Reacting to Devin Townsend" or some such, lol. =)
I don't think it would happen. Devin doesn't watch reaction videos, as he get really stressed out while watching it, he explained it in an interview. The guy get anxious easily over that kind of stuff loll.
Hearing this song for the first time, regardless of it being a live version or recorded, is going to hit home hard. Its a brilliant song.
The dude's 50 and killin' it. I've never heard of him and we're the same age. Nary a word of him in the USA
Deadheading is when an airlinepilot commute to the next job as a regular passenger. The song is about a musician deadheading to the next gig and argues with his woman on the phone.
Devin Townsend - The Death Of Music (Live at the royal Albert Hall ). Or for something completely different from Devin, Casualties of cool - Mountaintop ( the dunlop sessions) It is a live studio performance with fellow Canadian singer Che Aimee Dorval. It would be great if you reacted to them back to back.
This song makes my tears comin´everytime,..so much feelings and so ful of power and hope,..Devin is really an true artist and a fine soul,...Thanks Rebecca
You've become my go-to channel during these trying times
Its nice to see someone who clearly enjoys his vocals as much as I do.
His voice is the most powerful instrument i have ever heard
Sue Sutton Plug a guitar into one of those old Matamp heads and run it through a full stack. You an bring down buildings with those.
btw this is a joke. devin’s voice is beyond amazing.
Awh dear, No one will blame you for showing a tear ;-) Its all natural! Its what the music is designed for, to make you feel. Bless you
Love how the emotions on her face resemble mine when listening to this song.
Amazing composition - Devin is a beast
Rebecca watches Devin again: "I need a cigarette break... and I don't smoke!" that and the F-bomb later; totally honest reactions!
Loved watching your reaction.. and your observations..
Its lovely to see how passionate you are about music, musicality, soundscapes and the overall aural experience.. Regards from India..
P.S : Devin has a huge following in India..
the segment that ends @5:28!!
It's so awesome to know (?) what DT is capable of and watch someone in the know see it and hear it for the first time!
The range of operatic, playfully conversational, guttural, screamy, and absolutely fucking possessed vocal tones in that minute-ish of music are just so flabergastingly off the charts when taken as a whole it's hard fathom! And plus it's so completely devoid of anything resembling a ceiling pitch/dynamic/tone-wise!! Love it!
He had the flu at this show too, makes it even more impressive!
"Opeth - Harlequin Forest" please, i think you will love it, it has clean and growl parts but the cleans are insanely good...
You are so vicious
Hurt me
I can take it
It’s all in the heat of the moment
It’s all in the pain
Wow!!! You can feel the pain in his voice. Amazing!!!
He said in an interview he wrote it for his wife
My god you look terrified at the end. Devin truly is a beast, in every aspect.
Besides that legendary ending segment of singing, Rebecca caught my favorite part of the song at 8:33 where the background melody transitions and you can hear Devin singing “sonar again.” Such a beautiful part of the song. Too many amazing sub portions of an entirely moving song. I want this to play at my funeral. Thanks for catching that part Rebecca.
As others requested: Devin Townsend - Devin Townsend Project - The Death of Music (LIVE) Albert Hall
John Galanakis it’s the epitome of a man’s soul being laid bare through music.
Or live in Plovdiv
I seen him last December in Manchester, he played Deadhead and yes...it sounds that good live and in person.
M C I was there too, he’s maybe even better live?!
Vocal coach goes mental for Devin Townsend
He’s playing in London this December - you should defiantly come and see him live !
I would love for you to react to Grace Devin Townsend live from retinal circus. He has a wonderful female vocalist sharing the song. Thanks for your insight.
I am over from the dark side (the metal scene) and you are adorable. it is also so awesome to see so many vocal caoches and producers reacting to devin and realizing what we have known all along, that he is perfect. he is also METAL as F...its nice to see people realize that metal may container screaming but its also awesome :)
What people also fail to realise too this was after an entire set list he'd already done. The man is a legend.
This video has so much nicer sound quality than Spotify.
This is what Devin does to people... He makes me so proud to be Canadian!
Her: "He has really good" diction"
Devin: "Well thank you" 😉
I was watching Devin, and couldn't quite find a song I was able to appreciate the way you explain, and So I found your video, cause I know you always react to the bangers lol and this ...man this .... thank you.
Please...Please watch Devin's video for Stormbending. Good luck not bawling your soul out ❤ 😊
The best and genuine react I've ever seen in my entire life. You're real a unique woman Rebecca, you feel the power of music, just like me. Listening Orestes from A perfect circle, I think you'll like it. Greetings from Portugal...kisses 😙
A master
Devin has been singing like this for ages.....so don´t you worry about his voice. ;)
Do Dimmu Borgir - Gateways live in Norway next. You'll love it
Love the 20 miles of Reverb and Delay he throws...ON THE ENTIRE MIX THAT IS IN TIME with the overall rhythm. :) Your reaction is priceless.
I love the way your emotional responses come out whilst listening to music, when I listen to this kind of music I suffer from the same affliction and I feel a genuine connection. The icey fingers crawling up your spin, the hair on your arms raising, the feeling of breathlessness and almost angelic pleasure tampered with a real darkness. No idea really how to describe it but good choice and I really enjoy your vids as a non vocalist. Keep it up :)
Its weird being that type of person around someone who isn't. Like literally you feel it throwing your heart strings around and someone else is just like... huh
You really gotta listen to his new song, "Why"
To sing about a song about that, needs so much expression.
I got a note on Facebook about Dimitra Panariti singing this song in a studio. Had never heard it before, so I search for the original and found DT at RAH.
Talk about deliver and perform a song excactly how you feel in that situation what the song is all about.
Pain and passion.
Yes, I cried a couple of times. It hurts in your heart.....
Devin Townsend actually suffers from social anxiety, he used to mess with alcohol and drugs. Now hes only sipping coffee now and then. The stage allows him to command and conquer, when hes on you are in for a ride.
Its just so immersively beautiful.
Haven't heard him since he did the Sex and Religion album with Steve Vai. His voice was and is exceptional.
I saw him open for Avatar last year only knowing he was ther front man for A Strapping Young Lad and that style of music. It was definitely a very different and interesting, entertaining show.
I may have already commented on this but I have to again I saw this last year and watching you review this song it was amazing to see you react the exact way I felt as you felt while watching This video for the 1st time. Such an emotionally powerful song is hard to describe but every time you felt something expresly the 1st big growl that he came out with I felt it right there with you and the songs brought me to tears many times because that's how hard it can hit you. And that's why I loved watching Yuri action to this because someone else feels Music the way I do. I am not a musician I always wish I could play bass but music is my therapy and to see someone else feel truly feel and react the way I did so such a song is this you have no idea how it feels to see the connection well you probably do. He is deftly a commanding front man amazing musician and vocalist . What are your face light up and get teary eyed emotional Made my day in a good way..................
MUSIC
MUSIC IS THEARPY
IT HEALS THE HEART
SOOTHES THE SOUL
AND CALMS THE BEAST WITHIN.
What i love about metal concerts is the fact that the crowd actually have a sense of rythm when they're clapping along.
dude, you watched Devin video Kingdom in January...what's the surprise and analysis? he deserves it BTW
she's hot though
This is by far one of my favorite reactions to this song, I love your channel
devin one of the greatest vocalist in the whole of human history
Fair goal and praise From you and him .....inspiring
You should check out Devin Townsend-By Your Command Live Plovdiv. It’s amazing and has everything that fans love about Devy, with the heaviness, monster riffs, vocal range, and his sense of humour
I love how emotional you get when music hits you in the feels. It’s hot 😍
These reactions videos are my favorite because not many relate to my own reactions, and I’m new to hearing Devin. I was blown. A. Way.
I got to see Devin play deadhead live back in December in Dublin and honestly I cried to so hard.
Thank you for showing me this, i was already a Devin fan, but had mostly listened to the other albums, but this almost gave me a religious experience, so powerful!
Incredible voice ! You also caught me watching the video with Devin Townsend haha. Reminds me of in my dreams with you, my favorite song on sex and religion ^^
Accelerated Evolution is a masterwork, full of so much wall of sound. One of my favorites! Chill and heavy as hell at the same time. DT is a true talent.
This Devin track is a masterpiece. .
YOURE ON THE VERGE OF 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS
She's looking at him like, oh my what a STRAPPING YOUNG LAD he is!
🤝
Both of you. Leave.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I see what you did there.
Sly dog..
Devin has the self-confidence like someone who sang with Steve Vai when he was 19! - Oh, wait...
First i thought a vocal reaction on devin townsend ? really ?
i really forgot how awesome he was on sex & religion, time flies very fast :D.
and somehow i lost sight of him because i couldnt get warm with the strapping young lad and ocean machine stuff not that it was bad but i dont liked the sound at all it was so washy so it was hard to follow the whole stuff that was going on.
maybe time to check his latest stuff again.
I remember watching the first time he was on Headbangers Ball
@@Evilinge Completely agree! I lost him, when he he left Steve Vai. Bett I've missed alot.
I did see him in Helsinki with Steve Vai when he was 19. It was Awesome. And he really can shred also.
@@Evilinge same here. In the process of catching up with the DTP material, because I missed all of it. But I have vivid memories of Sex & Religion, that album got me through a tough time in my life.
Get you a girl that looks at you like she looks at devin.
StonedGamer5000 I look at my husband the way he looks at Devin Townsend 😂👏🏻👏🏻
😂
Be Devin and yeah fuck we willl. 🖤
You win the comment section. Full stop.
@@cyanidexsunset lol
The guy had a skullet for over a decade. If that's not the epitome of confidence I dont know what is.
lol fuck yes this cracked me up
Yeah whatta savage
“Skullet” - LMAO
We always called it a bullet
A SKULLET HAHAHA
He's one of the best musicians of our time
Agree
understatement
100% correct, it’s a crime how most people don’t know who he is and/or can appreciate what he does musically
Being a Canadian myself I feel nothing but shame this man is not more well known. It's not like he's unpopular but in terms on Canadian talent this man has to be number one in my books. deserves the worlds attention.
Dude is a savant and underrated as hell and I say that unironically because outside of our circle (which isn't mainstream) he's unknown. Which is madness.
That Devin guitar tone can destroy planets. Pure energy and power
No! that will be the planet smasher! lol!
Indeeeed
The power of destruction or the power of creation. That tone is so powerful yet beautiful.

God : Do you want a clean voice or a monstruous heavy screaming machine ?
Devin : yes
Thumbs down for using a meme.
Hahaha a good one
LMAO best comment
Trick question; Devin IS God.
I'm glad i'm not the only one that tears up when Devin unleashes his musical soundscapes on the masses. I think he's so criminally underrated. He is one of the best guitar players going. and his vocal range and ability is FUCKING INSANE!
I cry every time I hear the song. Every... damn.... time.
It's true! He is one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard in my life
well, you are not alone mate :D
Man, the video is live on the best concert venue of Europe, the guy has thousands of fan (including me) and headlines metal festivals, has 500 youtube reaction video.. I don't know why people keep on saying he is underrated...
@@hectorglobal2922 Venues are great. But, they're hardly a measuring stick for all-time recognition. And, okay, cool. Some youtubers have noticed him. But what we don't see is more recognition for his work, higher placements on festivals, more of a push or buzz during his music is dropping. etc. And, for all that he gets right now, it's not proportional to the talent he has. One of the best guitarists going. With a vocal range that most other metal singers can dream of. He has more, and does more than a lot of other talents out there. But he's not talked about as much. That's my point. That's him being underrated.
5:21 Rebecca: I'm going to pause it
Devin: NOOO
Haha
