I have to disagree. I don't think it ruins your reputation. If you need perfection everytime then you're missing out. Musicians are just regular people who also get sick. When I go to a show, I don't sit there and criticize. Music is about expression and the experience, not about hitting everything perfectly.
Hes not simplifying the songs you guys... he just hits so hard that his accents completely drown out his ghost notes... This guy is a phenom, TRUST me!!! ... Like you could do any better...
Dave Elitch is my second favourite drummer in TMV after Jon Theodore. The problem with Thomas Pridgen was that he overplayed so much sometimes that the band lost the time and one can see Omar shake his head and was not happy.
I KNOW this is a mad old comment but this video is still up and still amazing. I want to point out though, he's not hitting any harder than Jon Theodore. Jon Theodore hit more notes. Where Elitch hits 1/4's & 8th's, Theodore hit 16th's. Eriatarka chorus is a perfect example of the hihat not even being used where Theodore always hit 16th's. It's different but you didn't catch Theodore syncopating reggae grooves in jams very often either. 2 amazing drummers
Something tells me this was one of the shows that solidified Cedric's idea to take the vocal approach that we are hearing live these days and on the songs off Noctourniquet. Lower notes, still with just as much passion. And these days Cedric sounds 20 times better than this video and most other shows from the Octa era. A little less push and Cedric sounds better than what he has most of the last decade.
Convengamos en algo: La gracia de Cedrix no es cumplir con los tonos vocales, sino complementar su voz con la música de Omar. En los últimos conciertos se escuchaba poco de eso, razón importante para terminar el dúo.
@@charleslarson5983 the stupidest comeback a person over 12 can write. The guy OBJECTIVELY sang horribly on this concert. Whether anyone else can or can't sing is completely irrelevant. Your gatekeeping won't change the objective truth of Cedric being awful on this concert. On the other hand, it seems that he was actually sick, which could explain the extreme lousiness of his singing. I despise your comment with my entire being. I hope you grew out of that after four years.
I rarely weigh in my opinion on youtube vids, but have any of you saying Cedric's vocals are shitty ever tried to sing these songs live? They are not easy. His vocals are rarely good live, but keep in mind that the album vocals which were probably cut from masses of takes make for a very difficult live singing job.
i jus can't take my eyes nor hearing & inner feelings off this (rock 'n soul, funk 'n metal, fusion 'n industrialist) band man! these musicians is whats happening! thx so much "temperiniii" for load'n this incredible music concert, cheers!

Eu estava nesse show.
I love how they have that massive stage and lights available but they keep it nice and close and intimate. Brilliant band, with Brilliant drummers, all of which i aspire to be as good as in every way!
Probably vocal nodules. Makes vibrations on the vocal cords very hard to achieve, despite the notes being in your range. Explains the vocal cracking on Broken English.
Eu tava la, no palco do lado, onde ia tocar Rage Against the Machine. E a galera do meu lado tava enchendo o saco reclamando que o Mars Volta não acabava. Só passei raiva aquele dia.
I remember seeing the Volta with John Theodore on the Frances the Mute tour. Among other greats they played the whole second half of that album as well as the song "Frances the Mute". In a small theatre...front row...on pills :)
I agree. I simply love TMV. But the fact is that it's one of those bands whose vocalist just can't keep up live. I mean, I love his energy, his personality, his creativity, AND his voice. And I wish I could just ignore that it's not fully there, but I can't.
I was at this festival. This type of thing was SO recurring. Regina Spektor kept complaining about it, QOTSA delayed their concert by almost one hour b/c of it...
I agree %100. I don't go to shows to hear the record. With a creative project like this, it is all about passion. Singing/playing in key comes secondary and rightly so.
he wasn't sick. he just doesn't take care of his voice, singing and screaming carelessly and drinking and using drugs. but at the time of this show he could still hit some notes, i bet today he would go full baritone to not shame himself.
He was not an influence on Jon, the drummer you're thinking of is Blake Fleming, the guy who did a few recordings before De-Loused, and rejoined after Jon quit after Amputechture, and Blake left before Bedlam was done because he went broke or something. Dave never played with Omar either
Don't forget the verse in goliath. And if we're talking about the band in general, their song structure is pretty extreme a lot of the time (think Day of the Baphomets, Metatron, Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus). You might have just been commenting on this show in particular, I don't know.
It took me 13 years to appreciate Cotopaxi, now I get to enjoy this show entirely
At this point life is simple. If you want to grow as a drummer, just make The Mars Volta covers.
And if want to grow as a guitarist, and bass player, go to* learn and play TMV just a lot!
That whole rhythm section is amazing!
what if my chops/rudiments suck!?!?!?! also, how do i get to carnegie hall?!?!?!
any instrument tbf
That's exactly how my drumming got significantly better.

Je suis tout à fait d'accord
34:45 Omar "How Do I Play Guitar" Rodriguez-Lopez, everybody.
great playing style if you ask me
I guess he didn't need to, as you've just barged in like you own the place and just provided your opinion unsolicited.

love how its an hour long video and only 6 songs, oh Mars Volta you never cease to amaze
I guess Cedric was a bit sick, but he went out on stage like a real rocker to sing all his songs, tearing his throat for a thousands of fans
not to mention he does nail it (only a couple of "fails")
@@vodzdrums He for sure does not nail it but if he sang sick, props to him. This was a painful concert to listen Cedric-wise.
I confess that I would like to see Dave playing Wax Simulacra.

I Could Play This A Hundred Times, And Still Some More. Thanks Omar And Cedric !!!!!!!
love this drummers style but thomas pridgens time signature control...WAS INSANE
he is insane
All the drummers to play for volta are amazing. And to think that Omar writes all the music! Legendary!
This is the craziest I've seen Jaun get. He's usually calmly playing his bass while everyone else is going crazy
@all critics
you guys try singing his stuff. he s still great!

Thought he sounded great

Haha, was looking for this.
best band ever, thanks for the upload. VIVA MARS VOLTA
they sound great
Minőségi Sátánista csimm-bumm zene. Kurva nagy. Gratula!
Ten years later, this is nice, I used to hate it since Job Theodore left the band. But Dave is not bad!
Dave is the next best thing to Jon Theodore IMO.

Thanks for the heads up dude!
Bass sounding so crisp in here. Amazing.
I kind of like these raspier, gravellier almost hard rock vocals, gives kind of a more passionate edge to the lyrics and delivery
the drummer has a relatively discrete passage in the mars volta, but the guy has style, i like him.
