On the Laos side of the Golden Triangle, there is an area called the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, an area that has been leased by a Chinese company for 99 years. People there call the area little China and apparently it feels more like China than Laos. People are warned off going there due to the risk of kidnappings . Ken the German vlogger was there just recently to check it out. Maybe it is due to that area that countries are issuing a warning. Another top video mate. Cheers Chai 🤩
Interesting. Yeah, I wouldn’t dive into too much politics but there are definitely some interesting areas within Laos 😅 yet Laos is super safe to travel to. Especially the known travel destinations in Laos :) thanks Steven
@stevens8785 That zone is not considered your typical Laos. Inside that zone, I hear there are casinos, underground scamming companies, drug trafficking, prostitution and all the illegal activities you can think of. Laos government does not have jurisdiction there.
Laos won my heart over, I lovee Loatian people, culture, nature, Luang Prabang, Van vieng and ven Vientaine was fun. I love you Laos and will come back again to see Pakse and other cities.
Lovely video again! Thank you for all your effort with finding a variety of people to interview. Love all your videos with Noona too!!! 😊She brings lots of sunshine to your videos!! ☀️
Been to Laos two times, because it's a wonderful country. It is safe in general, unless you're driving/riding, that's when it can get dangerous. Avoid accidents at all cost, you'll be paying not just the damages for they other guy's vehicle/motorcycle, but also his 'livelihood' for not be able to use his mode of transport 😶 (a friend had to be bailed out for a small mishap).
First went to Laos in 1997 when it was quite difficult to get a visa. Went to Thailand for a one month holiday in 2003 and I am still here! I have bicycled the length of Laos a few times now (Huay Xai - Pakse). LP was extraordinary that first visit in 97. I went to LP in 97 with a friend (a 30 year BKK expat) who while in the Peace Corps had lived in LP in 1973 and actually saw from the balcony of his house the helicopter take off from the Royal Palace with the Laos royal family (who were never to be seen again!). I still very much like it but it’s now a tourist simulacrum of what it used to be. I’ll be in LP for the LP Film Festival in December. I’ll be there for a month. Although, it's quite chilly in the mornings in December! The most dangerous thing in Laos (as with almost anywhere in SEA) is the traffic. After 20 years of living in SEA, I have had six friends killed either on motorcycles or bicycles. Personally, I think bicycles are probably more dangerous than motorcycles.Cheers.
I’ve travelled to Laos 4 times now and have had no issues there, except riding bikes on the dodgy roads. However, the first time I travelled there I was staying in a hostel in Vientiane and 3 girls came back to the hostel in hysterics saying that their partners had been taken at gunpoint by a group of guys dressed in military uniforms at the amusement park area next to the night market. About an hour later the guys arrived back at the hostel and said that they were all forced to go the atm and withdraw about $1000 usd each or they would be arrested. If it was me I would have probably taken option B. I was lucky because I had been in the same area about 15 minutes before them.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't know what to say. If this actually happened I hope they are not traumatized and were insured for this. It's the first time I hear something like this happened in Laos.
No matter where you go. If you’re looking for trouble…you’re going to defiantly find it. I’ve traveled back home multiple times…mind your manners and you’ll enjoy your trip.
Name me any country where you can left a bar totally wasted , forget all your stuff. Next day go back and the kept everything . They noticed I left drunk with tuk tuk. So they saved my belongings. Beautiful people, living in Laos 4years safest country in the world ❤
I assume legal council is suggesting these government websites "cover their ass" with the information. Basic common sense and being around populated areas, especially at night, should ease any concerns. Nice reporting Champ!
Luang Prabang looks like a real gem my friend , having not been there yet , it seems responsible and quite safe ? - Everyone has good opinions Thanks my friend ✔️😎👌✌️👍👋🙏
Ey you! It is a gem indeed :D Also it is very safe. Just stick with the touristic places, don't gamble, use drugs, and get involved in the red light business,- you'll be very safe
The headline safety warnings cld be better written to show clearly that the warnings are really limited to a small area. My wife and I spent two glorious weeks in Luang Prabang, w narry a trace of trouble
There are countless of websites giving negative travel advice. You might refer to just that one from the UK? It’s good that governments trying to protect their people but Laos is a very safe country to travel to and I think it’s unfair to say that it’s dangerous to travel within Laos.
I have not been to Laos but, I was in the U.S. Navy and I've been to many countries. This is important because, as an American, I've seen where Americans embarass me when they act rude or they think they are better than anyone else and, those types of behavior can cause issues and do cause issues. And then, those same people want to know what happened !? So, basically, if you treat people with kindness, you will see kindness.
Suggest that where possible tourists support local Lao business e.g. Restaurants Guests Houses etc the reason I mentioned this is that many business are Korean Chinese Viennese or Thai who have the funds to start business local Lao people struggle not in all cases nevertheless other countries are benefiting…!!!
Many places in SE Asia is being told they are not safe countries, while the travellers there say the opposite. I dont understand why governments say it's not safe?! Well, we will see for our self 🥰 Thanx Chai ❤️🙏
@@Chai_Travel I also think it depends on what you seek, I have a brother that always find the scetchy, because he looks for it. I mean, "bad apples" are everywhere, drugs and such is also probably in every country, but people with "normal" activities I don't think needs to be afraid of that. Just have your vitts and reasoning mind 🥰 my beliefs ❤️
I feel safer here walking the back streets at night than I felt walking the main streets of my home country of New Zealand at night, and NZ is supposed to be one of the safest countries.I had drive-by shootings in daylight outside my gate in NZ , a year here I haven't heard a gunshot yet.
Ey Darren even though I think NZ is super safe, by the sound of it Laos is much safer. I guess there is a differents as well if you compare Auckland with the rest of NZ?
Is it possible to just get visa at airport or it is advise to apply online? I'm from south East Asia so I don't need visa but my boyfriend is from EU Belgian passport. Any response would be helpful. We would love to visit Laos in the future
Hi hi! Depending on what port you arrive. Here are the ports which do have this and it’s as affordable or cheaper to get one on arrival: Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital. Luang Prabang International Airport in Luang Prabang Province. Pakse Internatioanl Airport in Champasak Province.
No body said anything about unsafe traveling to Laos and you heard the last gentleman said about the people of Laos and Thailand. It is pretty safe going to Laos.
I agree with my fellow aussies i felt safer in Vietnam , Cambodia or Thailand less mental health on the streets only saw 1 beggar in Siem reap where as in the big australian cities beggars are every few metres and the thing that really refreshing you do not see homeless people picking up cigarettes butts off the streets as you do here.
When I'm on my travels in south east Asia there's always plenty brits, Scandinavian, Dutch, French and Germans etc but I can't really recall coming across any Spanish.

It literally says “Xaisomboun Province due to civil unrest.” Don’t fall for the clickbait here. You should read the advisory.
