I’m an atheist raised in an evangelical family (and SA’d in that family as is way too common in that community) and I tried to share this info with my parents before the election. It didn’t work, unfortunately, and I’m now no contact with them. I think it’s interesting how I internalized the lessons of love and compassion and empathy that I grew up with, while they were only paying lip service to those qualities and have simply been waiting for someone to tell them what to do and how to live.

Hard as you may find this to believe, as a Catholic I feel the exact same way and you would be surprised just how many do! Just because some people have bastardized religion it doesn't mean that it's all like that.
I grew up in deep south Louisiana, and it was 80% Catholic there. I wonder how they feel now. The little I see on Facebook tells me they have allinged with evangelicals and are highly disagreeable now, but that might be the Catholics that are not actually pious. In the 90's the Catholics down there were sort of socially liberal. My parents have changed from their families and became protestant/evangelical, but my extended family remained Catholic. I became an Atheist in 2006, but I questioned certain things since my lower teens, particularly my mother not having a good explanation for her emotional response to certain political topics.

WHY TRUMP HAS SO MUCH "CHRISTIAN" SUPPORT!
I'm an ex-christian (initially Evangelical) and had NEVER understood Evangelical support for Trump until this year, after Project 2025 was published. I have tried to find out as much as I possibly can over these past several months, about these people, and unfortunately it's MUCH worse than I could have even imagined! Now, I'm not saying that all the following things will happen, but it is their ideology, and they believe that America should live like this!
THE HORRORS OF PROJECT 2025:
The Heritage Foundation started its plans 50 years ago, but thankfully has never completely taken over America's democracy. Now they've fashioned this term's plan around Trump, because he's easy to manipulate, doesn't read anything longer than a few sentences according to ex-Whitehouse staff, and doesn't understand it anyway. His craving for fame and authority will have him signing ANYTHING they put in front of him!! Btw...his name is mentioned 312 times in the 920 pages of Project 2025.
Their project has gradually become more and more extremist over the years, morphing from Far Right Conservative Evangelical, to Christian Nationalism, to Christo-Fascism, which is what it is now. If you hear these Project 2025 leaders speak when they are off news channels, and just chatting amongst themselves, it sends shivers down your spine! They wholeheartedly agree with public executions for things that THEY deem as crimes, public floggings for things that THEY deem as crimes, and getting the vote taken away from women. They are deeply racist, seeing anyone who isn't white, nothing more than a slave! They deem women as far inferior to men, and view them only as baby making machines. Oh yes, and marrying off children at 11 years of age is perfectly fine with them!! Basically all Old Testament stuff!
Even ignoring their talk amongst themselves, if you just concentrate on the document Project 2025, they basically want a THEOCRATIC, FASCIST DICTATORSHIP, to replace America's Democratic and Free country!
They are a violent extremist cult, posing as a Conservative Christian group!
JD Vance is HEAVILY involved with them, which would explain his weird obsession with women having babies! He's obviously been indoctrinated in the past few years. It would also explain his complete turn around with regards to his views on Trump! I had never understood that until recently, when I discovered this about him. He doesn't exactly make it public knowledge! Not surprisingly, Speaker Johnson is also HEAVILY involved, and thinks that his position as Speaker was ordained by God, when God was directly speaking to him!
MAGA supporters have MANY of these types of "Christian" Nationalist and Christo-Fascist churches that they attend, which have exactly the same types of violent rhetoric, as seen here! They have "self appointed" prophets too eg. If one of these so-called prophets has a dream in which Jesus tells Trump he is the 2nd coming, then they deem that as the word of God!! 🙄
PS. If you are a normal Christian, Project 2025 has absolutely nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus! Far from it!
They dress it up to look that way, but if you look at the bigger picture....the racism, the white supremacy, the violent rhetoric, the gun fetishism, the misogyny, the terrifying ideology they have about children and marriage, their complete disregard for climate change, "righteous violence", the absolute HATRED that they have for any LGBTQ folks or anyone of any other religion!! They will FORCE everyone to live the way THEY want them to live!! It has already happened, with pregnant mothers dying because they can't get healthcare under the abortion bans, book banning, and in Florida they have now banned sex education in schools!!
It's also been proven now, by a cult expert, that Trumpism is actually a cult, so there's that aspect to it as well. That was my conclusion this year, until I found out all the information above!

I mean holy crap where is any community in any church anymore especially since church was never meant to be religious in the first place.
