    Another great practical review. Watching you come down from the pine forest the ride looked quite hard, as you pointed out. Have they fixed the water ingress problem with the tail gate when its opened on a wet day? No HUD, No appleCar play. Not enough buttons or knobs to tempt me I'm afraid, will be spending similar on an other manufactures vehicle that has better interior ergonomics, rather than just the giant iPad UI. That blank dashboard is their achilles heel IMHO, loosing a lot of conservative buyers concerned about the safety of the daft touch screen UI. Thanks for the review. Relieved.

    I am not sure that most people buying EV's have 69800 euros to spend. This is gone into executive car price. Very good car but there is more choice EV's now and not as exspensive. O to 100kms times are going to be curbed by insurance companies with higher premiums so that will soon be stopped advertised. Your a good car reviewer.

    Have a deposit on Y and EV6. Keen to watch your review of the EV6, and hoping to test drive myself soon. On the model Y, I'm worried about ride quality/firmness, especially on country roads, so will likely stick with 19 inch wheels if I choose that. Did it feel overly stiff when you drove it or do you think you could live with it? On the EV6 I'm worried about how dark the back seat area will be due to the slooping roof line and small rear windows. They should have put a panoramic roof in it I recon..

    Any idea what the price will be once the German factory starts supplying these to Ireland? I think currently, there's a 10% import tariff for all cars coming into Europe. Then add VAT & VRT.
    I think overall it works out about 15% (or 10500) higher cost due to the that import tariff. (cumulative effect on the later VAT and VRT). If that's the case, then as soon as Tesla Germany starts sending cars to Ireland, the new price should be 58K.
    Then the model 3 will have to take a price reduction also.
    The issue with Tesla is the cost. If the above is correct, that cost will drastically reduce and the Model Y will be extremely popular across Europe.

    • @NevoEVReviewIreland

  • @ablacknambercat

    In the price bracket, it's got a lot going for it. OTOH best-selling EV by next year might be something less expensive as the twilight falls on ICE, and more people go electric and most won't spend this kind of money. I'm not sure Tesla has the kudos of other marques outside EV enthusiasts to dominate the price point yet. Of course the best selling car next year will still be an SUV with an ice engine, maybe some battery capability but sadly that's where we are.

    Sure it’s a very nice car but the leasing rates (in UK) are just too high for now as a company car. Way more than similar size cars like the Q4 or iX3, in fact more than an iPace currently. I went for a Q4 and now waiting until early March for delivery - a model Y is beyond June 2022 delivery currently and likely to get worse. However if I was a private buyer I might be tempted due to the crazy residual values but don’t have £60K plus lying around (or can afford the astronomical leasing / finance payments!). Might well be looking at one of these in 3 - 4 years time but by then the EV market is likely to be very different.

    • @NevoEVReviewIreland
      @NevoEVReviewIreland  2 года назад

      Thanks for the comment Ian. Do you think it's to get buyers to borrow a loan / buy outright rather than lease?

    • @ISuperTed
      @ISuperTed 2 года назад +1

      @@NevoEVReviewIreland I think the model Y is in such demand in the UK and so new that fleets can’t get any discounts on the cars so can’t offer good leasing rates. For example the iX3 is about 10% more to lease than a Q4 but the model Y is close to 40% higher despite having a similar list price to the iX3. I doubt this will change for a while as Tesla can sell every model they make easily. I’m hoping in 3-4 years time there will be a lot more competition and choice for family sized EV’s and my prediction is it won’t be from the established makers like VW but more from the Chinese. Interesting times!

    Great car... I like the styling, the performance and range and especially the supercharging network. I am concerned that rock chips will really show up on that frontend... The interior is a bit spartan for that price point, and I personally I like a few more buttons, and a real dash.. but that could just be because that's what I am used to after over 30 years of driving.. I test drove the Modely Y performance a while ago and more recently the Model X, and that acceleration was amazing! This is the vehicle I am considering to replace my Chevy Bolt, when the time comes. If only the wait was not so long. I agree w/ you that Model Y will sell really well in Europe, once Giga Berlin starts putting out vehicles at a lower price point. Great review as always.

    Nice car, shame about Tesla's lousy customer service ! Tesla Motors Ireland Ltd. screwed up the paperwork for the model 3 we had bought and paid for in full (€~64k) and are now refusing to honour the contract and demanding an extra €5,000 because they failed to apply for the E.V. grant in a timely manner.
    Not only did they fail to provide the service they promised, but their customer service department have completely stonewalled us and refused to engage in any meaningful manner. It is absolutely clear to us that the company has zero regard for individual customers. Nice cars but truly dismal customer service !!

      @@NevoEVReviewIreland Tesla has deep pockets and lots of lawyers. Although we have a good case, and would win eventually, it would be a long and costly process to take them to court ourselves. I strongly suspect that we are not the only customer in Ireland that they have done this to, so I have reported the whole mess to the CCPC for them to investigate on behalf of Irish consumers. They can take enforcement action much more quickly on behalf of all affected customers in Ireland.

      @NevoEVReviewIreland  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Roland, you are correct. Let me answer here for you. Handling is good even for such a heavy car. The low center of gravity is key here but you do feel the weight. Steering weight can be adjusted as it's fly by wire. Suspension is on the former side for me. Regen can also be adjusted via the center console. I'd like more adjustability with easier access such as pedals. Tesla's are the most efficient EVs out there. Hard to quantify this one as I only had the car for a few hours to review. I hope to get a RHD and take it on a longer road trip to report back

    Not sure if the Model Y will be the best selling EV in Ireland, not at €70K . The best selling EV currently according to a quick Google is the Nissan Leaf at less than half the price of the Tesla and the best selling ICE car is the Hyundai Tuscon at €35K again half the price. Still if I got six numbers would seriously consider the Tesla.

    The Teslas have great battery tech but the weird looks on this and the build quality are still put offs. I know people are sick of hearing about the quality issues but every time I see a Model 3 I'm always shocked at the panel gaps and paint defects. I'm an EV owner myself and I do respect what Tesla is doing but until they sort out the American cars (apparently the new Chinese cars are well made) I'll never pay for one.

    • @NevoEVReviewIreland

      @NealMcQuaid 3 года назад +1

      @@NevoEVReviewIreland Every time I see a Tesla in a video, I'd agree with the looks. In 'the real', however, the Model 3 is a great looking car and I'd assume this is no different.
      Considering the range on these cars and the futuristic interior (a screen and that's it), I get impression that's why so many are buying them. Early adopters and those comfortable with change will run to these, those more conservative will stick with the legacy brands.
      It's interesting to see the BMW/Mercedes/Audi equivalents all coming with larger batteries (sometimes more than 10% larger it appears and getting LESS range (sometimes by 10% or more), you'd think the legacy companies have a problem. Batteries are the expensive component and if Tesla is selling cars at same price with those smaller batteries, are the legacy makers making any money while Tesla makes a great profit now? When your company is built around not having to car around weight and gets bloated (i.e. the combustion engine era), it'll be interesting to see if the legacy makers can make the transition both in this regard of building cars to the requirements of electric, as well as in the software side of new vehicles that also appears to be critical. Realistically, Tesla is well on its way to becoming another mainstream brand, and there'll be room for many others of the 'old guard' as well as the incoming onslaught of Chinese companies. It'll be fun to watch this play out and see how many companies we lose, and new companies arrive, in the transition!
      I'd have to agree EV Review, this car is going to sell like hot cakes in 2022.

    • @damianscott1373
      @damianscott1373 3 года назад +2

      The build quality ‘issues’ are mostly overblown. The people with issues shout the loudest. Most deliveries are perfect.
      As for the other ‘legacy’ manufacturers being bloated and getting less range from same battery sizes, you just have to look at the ‘Munro Live’ RUclips tear down of the Model Y vs the Ford Mach-E. Tesla design is so simple and efficient. Ford in this example had so much more ‘infrastructure’ in the car to do the same job, but not as well. The air cooling system in particular was crazy.
