I took a long time deciding which car to buy and was testing a lot of the (EV6, Ioniq5, ID.4, Mach-E, Polestar 2, iX3, Model Y). In the end I got the Model Y for these reasons: unrivaled tech (infotainment), efficiency, price, gov. grant, space. Negatives: suspension, looks, no HUD. On a very close second place I had EV6, but availability (2 months VS 8 months) and not getting the complete grant (8000€ vs 5000€) nudged me to the Tesla. And before people yell that a Model Y is expensive: they all are. Most have a similar or higher price if you spec them to compete with a Model Y LR AWD (approximate prices for my region): MY : 61900€ Mach-E: 68000€ EV6: 59000€ Enyaq Coupe: 63000€ iX3: 76000€ Great Video btw, except for the sound issues around 8:10 Edit: My Model Y had no issues at delivery, I know this will be asked.

@@EV6-Gear In my country (Luxembourg) the gov. grant is 50% of the cars price capped at 5000€ for cars with WLTP consumption over 180Wh/km or 8000€ for cars that consume WTLP 180Wh/km or less. So a Model Y LR AWD or EV6 RWD would get 8000€, but an EV6 AWD is over 180Wh/km and so only gets 5000€. With some cars like Ioniq 5 or Polestar 2 it even depends on which wheels you option, because with bigger wheels they go over 180Wh/km.
I have placed my order already and taken one out for a test drive. I came out of the model Y feeling on a high because it's so easy to drive. It stops you from speeding because the system alarms if you are going above the speed limit in that area.

I've ordered a model y as my next company car. Never had a tesla. Never test driven. But sat in one and knew it was perfect with all that space. Wanted white interior and red exterior but that would have bust the budget and I'm convinced my kids would stain the seats somehow lol. I did briefly consider other evs but the supercharger network is the convincing point especially at 25,000+ miles a year

I like the look of the Tesla and the large network of chargers is great. However I don’t like the minimalist interior and no heads up display. I opted for an EV6 GT-Line instead.
Oner thing that I cut from the edit that I shouldn't have was the range. tesla WLTP range is 533km for the Model Y Long Range, EV Database is saying nearer 450km and I was getting around that for the week that I had it.
The 533km is he WLTP with the €2,300 20” wheels. The WLTP with the 19” wheels is 565km. Also the Model 3 does have blind spot on indicate…all M3 have it.
Love the review. Test drove and ordered one mid April. Original delivery estimate July now pushed out to October/November. Anyone else experiencing this sort of delay? Or am I just lucky?☹️

We have an ID3 from Frank Keane deansgrange last July which we bought from feedback from your channel and a couple other reviewers, so many thanks. In light of recent Tesla price reductions I went to look back at your Model Y review, can I just verify the Model Y spec you priced in March 2022 was the standard ‘Long Range’ not the Performance or including Full Self Driving? I have to ask because Tesla are quoting €54k with this price update for the Long Range Model Y. I knew they were cutting prices around 5-8k but thats 20.500€ less if we’re looking at the same spec. Great question. I've a comparison review with the ENYAQ coming to the channel soon. ID.4 GTX AWD is not bad, I've a review on my channel already but for the money it's not as advanced as the Tesla. Lastly the Mach-E is probably the nearest to it and it's more conventional. I really like the Mach-E but it's a 1st fully EV from Ford so I expect teething problems

I can't see any reason it wouldn't be approved apart from the privacy glass on the back doors, do you know if there is some way to discuss getting green glass on order?

Good review Derek, very informative. Stunning car in so many respects, love the space, pity about the binary options of only black or white upholstery. Its a big bus alright but a great looking car. Was on the bring of ordering, it was a close call, but as you know by now I'm sure, the blank dashboard, lack of binnacle and absence of familiar controls was a deal breaker for me, so will be going with another AWD German alternative for replacement. A great shame because it is such a superb BEV in every other respect, I just can't cope with the bland interior. PS: The 'Rode' wireless mic (sender and receiver) might be worth investigating, superb range and ultra compact with 3hr battery (clip on or magnetic).

Due to my age I have paid less for a house. For this reason, better build by other manufacturers and the minimalistic dash I have to say don't buy ..... but this goes for similar priced cars also. I too have paid less for a house but with the crazy prices these days, I can say that I've never owned a car before that I could still sell it for my full purchase price after a year of driving! (I'm in Canad and have had one for a year now)

You have the price wrong by €2,300. You showed the price including upgraded 20” wheels so the actual entry price is €73,026. The upgrade wheels are a sneaky “default” setting by Tesla and you have to downgrade to the 19” to get the €73k price.

The fact there is an aftermarket instrument cluster that folk are buying for their Tesla does shows they dropped the ball on that. I'm not anti Tesla but I think the lack of an instrument cluster and some physical buttons for heeting and cooling would bug me on every drive. My younger brother who's involved in repairing the bodywork on Tesla's would slap me if I got one, they need to improve the build quality on the body panels.

Tesla increase prices last week ! At least on the model 3 . A long range model 3 over 70k ! That’s obscene for a car that needs a damage /paint / panel gap check list on collection , so the Elon pledge of a car for all is a crock of s#*t ! Interestingly the BMW I4 40 starts at 63k and a better built car . I drove one a few days ago and personally I though it miles ahead of the Tesla model 3 esp the suspension. Not to mention panel gaps lol .

Is there a grant for ev's over 60k ??. I am sure it is capped at 60k.

Crazy, in one year in Ireland Model Y long-range price dropped by €21,600... from €75,499 to €53,900 (new car prices on both occasions).

Tesla have vertical integration and a good grip on battery and IC supply. Other vendors cant compete.

The firmness of the suspension would put me off the car. Would be great if they came up with a softer setup.

3rd parties will be happy so! The wireless charging pads were not so lucky
I don't mind that there is no instrument cluster but I would gladly pay extra to get a (OEM) Head-Up display
