Superbooth 2019: Make Noise Mimeophone Stereo Delay
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 окт 2024
- Walker was on hand to show off the three new stereo modules from Make Noise. The Mimeophone is a Stereo Multi-zone Colour Audio Repeater, think coloured delay line with some nice features smudging up the stereo field. The X-Pan is a stereo mixer and the XOH simple stereo output module.
The star of the show here is definitely the Mimeophone, however those simple utility mixers can find their way into any system. The X-Pan especially has some very high quality VCAs which sound lovely when modulated at audio rates.

Walker looks how I thought he would look, but his hair is more fun than I thought it would look.
Walker travelled back to our time from a funless dystopian future, and using the power of his Fun Hair, he has protected us from a similar fate. A true hero.
It has all the bits I was using the 4ms Looping Delay for + processing in the delay line + the other stuff, internally. Very nice.
YES. Thinking of swapping my Clouds and 4MS Stereo Delay for this. Seems like this single module gets the sounds that I would have to tweak and search for in two modules. Anyone get their hands on one yet? My local shop has them on pre-order now.
"Everything can be modulated, all at once": the Make Noise mantra.
I like the new clouds
I think I hear zones from Superbooth 1867 and Namm 2182 skewing between the flips but my quantum mechanics is a bit rusty. User interface has some traces of west coast Light Supressing Diodes (LSD). But wow, another example by blending past, present and future into something that sounds completely new. I bet MN has a working De Lorean stashed somewhere in the lab.
Anything make noise makes, is 🤩
So they made the Erbe-Verb of delays! Sweet!
It def sounds very Erbey to me for sure
@@jsogman Same developer.... This is a Tom Erbe design :)
@@mubalicious yeah because Erbe/MN seem to have a bullseye trained directly on my bank account haha
im sometimes sad that i dont know anything about modular synths, but i would love to use this thing with my analog synths, what an amazing sound!
4ms makes the pods and many others make small cases for one or two modules. You could probably have just the Mimeophon and XOH as a small processing box.
@@bitspacemusic one would probably want some modulation as well plus some utilities
check out vcv rack
Great, after getting the QPAS and eyeing the Morphagene, it became clear that the Echophon wasn't going to fit well into my planned Make Noise skiff. "I'm sure they'll make a cool stereo delay soon though". I was right :) very innovative one as well, not as over the top as the Rainmaker but more experimental than your standard BBD-delay
I wouldn't write off the Echophon so quickly. Yes, it's mono, but it's also fairly versatile - besides being a wonderful *pitch-shifting* delay, it's also a 1v/octave VCO and CV-able clock divider/multiplier. Lately I've been enjoying using Echophon as a "mid-side insert" in the stereo field, via combining it with LRMSMSLR and Erbeverb, and feeding just a little bit of the Echophon's feedback output back into the Erbeverb input also. Good times!
@@jsleeio yeah but I'd rather be able to take a stereo signal from QPAS and/or Morphagene through my delay without summing them through a mixer with sends to turn them into mono. I'm sure the Echophon is great, but the Mimeophone fits my vision better
They should name the next module X-GAS.
lovely! thx again makenoise
SPLOOSH MACHINE
No estimated price on the Mimeophon?
@rrliled i'd say more in the morphagene range
make noisd got a killer delay here! dope
Anyone peep the big Qpas white knobs on the DPO and STO? Looks great with the black panel.
Oooooooh, the new modules are lovely.... But I'm rather curious about the details on that new skiff system ^_^
I know those details
damn...
damn...
got to have it...yep
I really hope they haven't used vactrols. Pretty over the amount of bleed on certain MN modules regarding the w/d mix. It definitely doesn't replace the Echophon but it does sound promising as another delay option.
no vactrols
Can you ask if on the 1st module, if the controls are linked together, pretty sure he didn't mention it.
GAS intensifies..
Its not technically gas if you NEED it.
I don't suppose the Xoh has a line level input?
00:14 sound pressure levels so low I wonder if it's actual superbooth or a sneaky hollywood rendition?
sounds great!
Shut up and take my money!
Lovely!!!
There goes the bank account.
yup. having that
Okay I'm in!
wooooo what a delay! :)
Rate (reet) controle.....,need that! 😂
A.K.A. Make Noise's take on Strymon's Magneto. All the way down to the Shift effect.
i'm not sure i understand the magneto manual description, but shift doesn't sound like anything that i put in the mimeophon. mimeophon is really more based on my 2006 plugin ++delay than anything else (with inspiration from the deltalab effectron and roland space echo).
The comparison was made on how the pitch seems to shift similar to the Shift on the Magneto. A better comparison (truth be told, I haven't seen nor played around with the module, which I'm looking forward to) might be a combo between of the Magneto and Morphagene? Exiting to see those effects in a simple module though.
@@DBPawlan The Magneto's shift mode uses different read speeds on its four buffers while writing at one constant speed to achieve constant pitch shifting. What you're hearing in the Mimeophon demo is Doppler pitch shifting but only when the rate is being modulated. This is because Rate is affecting both the read and write speeds. This effect is available on Magneto too but needless to say there are very different options for internal feedback path compared to Magneto's tape sim. Maybe Rate also affects the recording quality; that was a nice "hidden" feature on Magneto.
@@TomErbe Mimeophon is looking great. Bringing it to KnobCon?
@@bebop7 I don't know if MN is attending this year.
Interesting module & horrible demo.
Impossible to conclude anything from this mess of a demo....
what lol, this is the best demo i've watched today
really?
he covered all I wanted to know...
