One thing I love about Dixieland is how the horns sometimes go right to the edge, then come back. They never quite cross that line. Dixieland is just so much fun. It always sounds like a celebration.

You describe perfectly what I Think about this, Dixieland jazz is pretty much about happyness, and always remind us the Joy in the life through the music, is simply wonderful, I Just love so much.
When I was learning to play dixieland with sax the best was it was described was most everyone is soloing the whole time but in the same key so it doesn't sound wrong. That and those clarinet licks are what really help give it it's distinct sound so it's important to have a strong clarinet player. Takes a little getting used to but once you do it's just as amazing to play as it is to listen to.

Dixieland is so much fun to play!!! I have played When the Saints go Marching on in a trailer pulled by a truck in a parade. It was awesome!!!!

Dixieland muziek is muziek waarin je helemaal los kan gaan. Het swingt de pan uit. Ik ben al van de jaren 50 een groot fan van dit genre en inmiddels bijna 80!!
This is why I always tell people I'm from Louisiana when I travel, I only lived there for 3 years.
I lived in new orleans for more than that and although I still love this music, I have to say: this is not the music of NOLA. It's formthe tourists.

At this point the Internet world is probably larger than the real world and out of all those people only a little over 5,000 have viewed this video. It just blows my mind that this type of music doesn’t get much more attention. What a big dumb planet we live on.
doctorkazoo maybe you're new, but with this music there is no grey area, we are far and few, I love trad jazz but this video sux, very by the book. Seach Dixieland Live or played on the street, you'll surely hear better than this anyway.

@@beachmasterX I was afraid to say it until you did. They are playing the music as written. Good Jazz moves the notes just enough to add feeling. I learned that from Jelly Roll Rogers at Preservation Hall.
@Everstruggling Django Reinhardt?? Nat King Cole???? Oh, stop it. I'm talking about Dixieland Music. You think Reinhardt is Dixieland?? Nat, Reinhardt...brilliant but not DL! Armstrong is his own category. I'm sickened and bewildered that THIS style of trad jazz is not extraordinarily popular.

Yes, I get it, 'old faahioned' dixieland a la Mickey Mouse and Disneyland, but do you remember who were the original Dixieland band who actually worked for Disney? The Firehouse Five plus Two. The leader (on trombone) was Ward Kimball and if you watch original Disney animations , you will see his name in the credits as producer. All other members of the band were animators, as well as being some of the most entertaining jazzmen on the planet.

Good Jazz is lousy background music. It is impossible to do anything while tapping everything you have. Look for Tuba Skinny Shotgun the Shakemup Jazz Band Broken Marbles or other current traditional New Orleans street Jazz bands. Or go all the way and listen to the old Preservation Hall Jazz Band. They are all on U-tube.
