I think y'all clutched up in the biggest way! Those opponents were no joke, that amazing USSR T1 sure went pear-shaped quickly after that. Came down to the last battle, I watched with baited breath. I also think one of the only feasible ways to combat a Thorpe Thump (TM) is for Germany to win in Africa and blitz through UK territory, softening India's production and power projection. Then Japan can stave off the USA a bit easier and reinforce Asia just enough to maintain footing.
I appreciate your professionalism and ability to be clear and succinct. I’ve watched other A&A content where it’s a 15 minute on one country’s turn. There is no continuity where I can see the whole game. I also appreciate you staying on topic for the content I came for. Other channels are filled with bad jokes and stories that are off topic. This was my favorite A&A video other than your video on how to play all the rules in one turn.
What do I think ? Well if you really want to know... This is essentially, an over complicated game of wackamole. Pls can someone create a WW2 wackamole board game. One side chooses where to poke their moles up, for the other to whack and visa versa. The moles are dressed as leading figures on each side. The side that whacks the most moles in a timespan wins that round. There’s multiple rounds. A mole that isn’t whacked within 3 seconds has won its battle and is deducted from the whacking side’s tally.
These videos are so great! I love the editing and commentary, it really makes it easy to follow the action and understand some of the nuances of what's going on. It's way better than any other A&A content I've seen on RUclips. Once the series concludes, I'd love to see more content like this, even if it's just the two of you playing against each other.
Wow, such phenomenal timing on that fork for the win. Taking a rough start and turning it so elegantly into a strong chance for victory is really great to watch! These play by play breakdowns are something special to watch, lots to learn from with excellent commentary. I'm loving the unique strategy that comes from timed games, especially from high level play, can't wait for the next one!
Agree with so many of the other comments here on the great production value of this series. The defining characteristic for me is the commentary. Gary's personality really shines here making it informative and fun to watch at the same time. I wont be surprised to see this channel grow over time.
Looks very well played from both sides. As a new player, I am curious why Germany wouldn't make more tanks early (rather than their stacks of infantry) if the general situation is the game only going to round 5. It seems like this would alter the game drastically and especially with the allies focusing on japan you would want to be able to get all of your units to moscow by round 5. Is this simply a mistake is there a reason why this is not as strong as it looks?
Lots of mentions here about Germany. I think offering alternative strategies only goes so far since ‘we weren’t there.’ Instead, for learning, I’m going to accept their strategy but build off it. Like…, in Turn 3, they bought 10 Infantry & 2 tanks. Yes, we can debate all day an alternative purchase, but unit PLACEMENT is an excellent lesson here: They put 2 Tanks in Karelia that got to Moscow in Turn 5, & 10 Infantry in Berlin that maybe got to Karelia by Turn 5. INSTEAD, (love it or hate it) take the same buy, but place 2 Infantry in Karelia and then 2 tanks (+8 Infantry) placed in Berlin. With that, the 2 Berlin tanks would still make it to Moscow by turn 5, BUT so would the 2 infantry in Karelia! That gets 2 more units (Infantry) into the Moscow battle that they didn’t have in this game. That placement efficiency each round can net you many more units in the Moscow battle.
I've never played Axis and Allies (Risk is probably the closest I've come) but I was still able to follow and enjoy all tbe action which is a testament to how well these videos are structured. You've definitely earned a subscriber! I would love to see more content like this
@BoardGameNation More Axis and Allies! Honestly I would watch any strategy game in this format or similar format. Maybe play some of those Renegade games if they want to continue to sponsor videos? I enjoy the strategy discussions. Need to go watch the live streams now
I'm so glad I stumbled onto this channel! It brings me back to highschool days, playing marathon days of Axis and Allies. But this is such next level stuff, and so clearly presented and explained! Please keep these kinds of videos coming! It's definitely a highlight of my day when a new video is uploaded!
I was going over the German rounds again and I wonder if that strategy could use additional efficiency with their buys/placement. For example, in Turn 3, they bought 2 tanks for Karelia that eventually went to Moscow. INSTEAD, imagine they bought 2 Infantry for Karelia + 2 tanks placed in Berlin. With that, the 2 Berlin tanks would have made it to Moscow by turn 5 and so would the 2 infantry in Karelia. That gets 2 more units (Infantry) into the Moscow battle that they didn’t have in this game.
@niklasulrich4725 even if they were playing for total victory, the amount of pressure Japan was receiving Germany needed to finish Russia as quickly as possible.
Exactly right. Axis played more of a traditional game. As soon as it was clear that the Allies were not going to Europe in round 2 or 3 the Axis should have bought more tanks and fighters. They would have the same 9 infantry for the assault on Moscow regardless. 2-3 extra fighters and 3-4 extra tanks make a huge difference in winning perctange for the Axis in that battle.
Gary, this video series is sensational, arguably one of the best tournament reviews of A&A ever, and it will arguably become a top classic in the genre. 1942.2 is not my favorite (fighters moving from Moscow to Japan in a single swoop, c'mon), but this is much fun and understandable, given 5hr time constraint. The way you organize and edit your match reviews is definitely the best and will raise the bar in terms of A&A video making! Epic! Congratulations on your efforts, and thanks a lot!
Like a few others have said, I have never played Axis & Allies, but am able to clearly follow and enjoy this championship series, which is an impressive feat on your end! I hope your getting enough viewership/revenue/personal enjoyment to continue to make in depth gameplay videos such as this. Would love to see other war games as-well! Eagerly waiting for the finals!
That's great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! We have been thrilled by the communities response. We are working as fast as we can to make more of these. :)
Watching these brought back my love of Axis and Allies from my childhood. Thank you both so much for such colorful and on point commentary. You're a great team and even better content producers. Looking forward to watching more breakdowns for other games in the future! Maybe do Ticket to Ride/Catan/More A&A next?
I just discovered this channel and can't get enough of these! So well done! And full disclosure, I've never played the game, but itching to play. Such fantastic work by you guys. Creating content like this is no small effort, and you guys kill it.
I have been absolutely captivated by your presentation of retelling these playthroughs. I love your channel. I will say that when you told me how close the finals would be, my heart absolutely sank in my chest and I let out an audible "Nooooooo". I love the excitement of watching your play by play as I try to figure out how the game will end. Knowing anything about how the game ends destroys a significant amount of the fun for me. I severely dislike spoilers, even partial ones. I've skimmed through and watched a number of your other videos. The content is absolutely top notch. You are a providing a wonderful resource. You should be extremely proud of your content. I'm so glad I found you.
I promise that knowing that the final match was super close will in now way spoil the action of the game. It has so many ridiculous twists and turns... I am still amazed by how it played out and I was there! We can't wait to share the story with you. Thanks for watching!
One of my friends is an avid A&A board game collector, and we get together with a bunch of guys maybe 2 times a year. (1941, 1942, Anniversary, last time even WW1). It's just casual play, we get the basic rules, but always the fear of making blunders to really commit and trying to be everywhere. This amazing content really helps on visualising possible moves and focused strategy. The US - 2 move with clearing a landing zone for UK bombers had my jaw dropped. Thank you!
Wow, what a game guys. I felt so excited for you both on that turn 5 swing. After the first few turns I felt deflated because I was certain that there was no way you could come back to win this. This one is the best games so far, congratulations and thank you so much for making the video.
Once again amazing content and enjoyable recap for us to watch and enjoy!!! Once this series is over please consider doing more recaps in the same format!
Been playing A&A since the blue box classic edition came into my knowledge 25 years ago! So great to see content like this! I'd love to see games from some of the variants - Europe and Pacific especially. Thanks for the great content!
I love these videos. I have never actually had the opportunity to play Axis and Allies - but now I want to. I can't think of a better way to learn the strategy and point of the game. Thanks for taking all the time to create these videos! (I also love seeing the 'new' look of Robo Rally - one of my favourite games for years, now!)
Glad to hear the wonderful feedback! When you are ready you can pick Axis & Allies and Robo Rally here: bit.ly/RenegadeGameStudios Thanks for watching!
Thanks again for putting these videos together. I find them entertaining and informative. As an aside, I played the original A&A in the mid 1980s with a group of my friends. After playing for some time, we decided to modify the game rules to let the bomber either bomb as normal or paradrop one infantry anywhere within the bomber's range. This new rule created a very dynamic game with many possibilities.
Love these recaps, it makes Axis and Allies content really enjoyable to watch and I hope this is a model for the future. I realize there is a lot of work behind every video but boy it is really nice to see. Thank you! Also I love the suspense and the storytelling!
Despite how things turned out, I believe the correct play after the first four turns of the game would have been to transition from a kill Japan to kill Germany strategy. Doug seemed to suffer from the same flaw that so many great Generals have in the past, which is falling in love with your initial "perfect" strategy, causing you to become inflexible to change when opportunities present themselves (or when enemy actions necessitate that you reconsider). Even with the U.S./U.K. outplaying Japan in the Pacific (the positioning of naval units at end of Japan 3 was a massive blunder), if Germany had made a better purchase in round 3 with more mobile offensive units, they would have had a serious chance of taking Moscow on the final turn. On a side note, for the final match I think it would be informative for you to show the overall shifts in income for each faction alongside material losses at the end of each round. Showing IPC loss of units without the gains/losses in income paints an incomplete picture, especially in the early rounds when income is so relevant. In this game for example, it seems like the Allies were trading poorly for most of the game, when in reality they (the UK in particular) were strong enough economically that they could afford the losses. Overall great content. Appreciate the work that goes in to these videos, and looking forward to the finals
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I'll see about including IPC counts in the final match. I need to think about what that graphic would provide the relevant information without being overwhelming to newer players. 🤔 Thanks for watching!
I only recently discovered this channel and I wanted to say thank you very much. I've wanted to get 1914 for years but I had given up because it was too expensive but since you told me they have reprinted it I'm planning to order a copy soon.
Outstanding! Just stumbled upon this video while dusting off A&A anniversary edition to play with my father. What an incredible analysis, great commentary, great game footage. Ive got a new series & channel to binge on. Keep it up!!
Fantastic video, I've been waiting for this one since you posted the second game! Seeing turn-by-turn breakdowns of board games by high level players is really fantastic, and something I haven't found elsewhere on RUclips; really excited to see where this channel goes in the future!
There are many great comments in the chat concerning Germany’s infantry purchases and unit placement. In addition, I think that Germany giving up on Africa and sacrificing its transports was critical, because it allowed the UK to bankroll an expensive air force and swing into Asia, without having to divert any resources to protect their African cash cow. Tactically, I believe Japan blundered by prematurely shuttling their navy to the Philippines, which allowed the allied 1-2 punch to easily sink them. Had they hung back and built up for a turn more, they could have potentially swooped in to counter, or at least been able to reinforce the mainland. I also believe Doug and Gary deserve praise for sticking to their strategy of going after Japan, despite the setbacks they had in the Pacific in T1. You guys understood that the synergy between the Allies is greater there and put on a clinic in Asian warfare! All in all, some really top notch content from the BGN team and a tough fight by their opponents. These games keep getting better and better. And remember kids: when in doubt, submerge it out.
All good thoughts. I think our opponents played really well against a tough strategy in a challenging environment. However, with perfect hindsight, if the Axis would have played with a greater focus on efficiency, they could have brought more to the fight in Moscow. Certainly enough to have forced the Allies to mount a greater defense. Enough to win? Maybe, maybe not. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I wanted to let you know that late 2022 I started watching your vids and I fell in love with the game since! I have been watching your world championship videos and it has really made me want to go to the 2024 championship! Thank you for everything and keep it up!!
Love these videos watched all three now. This one has a slight high pitch hum throughout, didn't notice on others It is when BGN speaks, not the other guy (idk name the one with glasses) so it is BGN's microphone
Been loving these videos. I had gotten away from A&A on Steam but after watching Round 1 I decided to dust it off and have been really enjoying playing it again. Can't wait for the next one!
I’ve been watching you guys for some time, and it feels good to see you guys finally starting to get some long overdue recognition! Your videos are of a very good quality and deserve way more views. Couple of questions: with the announcement of the anniversary edition being reprinted do you plan to do some similar content with that version or is 1942 your favorite? Also, this format seems to be doing really well! Do you think you’ll continue to do these “battle reports” for axis and Allies games? If they take too long to be sustainable, you could maybe do battle reports on the online version? Lastly, I think we’d all like to see you and Doug have a game against each other!
Thank you for your support! I love all those ideas! I would love to do some content on Anniversary. I don't own it (yet). So, I have only played it a handful of times. Doug, on the other hand, is a beast at the game. We will definitely keep making A&A content, but I am wondering. Any other games you be interested to see in this format? Thanks again for watching and all the support!
@@BoardGameNation As the biggest Dune nerd you could possibly meet, my totally unbiased opinion is that I’d always love to see more Dune content. All of the dune board games would work very well for these kinds of in depth analysis. Root is similarly deep and complex enough and is very charming. Really though, play whatever games you enjoy and I’m sure we’ll keep coming back to watch!
I love these videos and the detail you put into them and explaining the thought process behind each move. I love this game when i was in my teens and twenties and miss playing There is just no one in my circle of friends and family or in my community I wished there was a way for folks like me to be able to connect thanks again and cant wait for the championship match
I know these vids are outside of the norm for y'all. And they might be budgetarily straining. But i love this series and will return to more vids like this!
These videos are excellent love the formatting and you guys obviously put in a ton of work, it is much appreciated. Love to hear about your strategies and try to incorporate them into my games. However, I think the time/round limits of this tournament make it hard to know what it useful to carry over to a full game. Any thoughts on you two doing a full normal length game against eachother sometime after the final round? With a similar video so we can hear strategies for regular games and see what changes? I know I at least would love to see that. Thanks for the great recap videos!
Glad you are enjoying the series! Most of what we have been talking about can be effective in casual play. The only adaptation for the Thorpe Thump specifically would be this; the US can slow down by about one round. They can build for another round before setting out for the Japanese victory cities. The extra time can give them the opportunity to truly press the Allied economic advantage over the Japanese. We also talk more about this in the live streams. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I'm really enjoying your report on the World Championship. The video's are well made, comment is really intresting and funny at times. Looking forward to the finals.
Recently got (back?) into A&A Online after watching your Rounds 1 and 2 videos. I've been employing a KGF strategy, but this seems like a really fun way to pressure Japan as the Allies - looking forward to trying it out in my next game!
My friends and I played tons of Axis and Allies in the 80-'s. The rules were different back then, but in the end, we felt that the Allies have too much of advantage to keep playing. This round 3 game shows this. Still, Axis and Allies is a great game.
Thank You again for this video. Back in the 80s I loved the opening move as the allies to attack the 3 territories on Asia that Japan controlled right off the start. I see you have Conquest of the Empire in the background, do you have all the gamemaster games? In my gaming group we are still playing Shogun (later Samuri Swords) from that series. Keep up the good work. I use to have Guadalcanal but sold it regretfully, but I have read that Renegade is going to re print the game!
Ooooo.... I would love that. I will have to give it some thought. It would be hard to track all the movement over the course of an entire game, but not impossible. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Supercool game analysis, thank you! I have a suggestion. When you summarize the game round, with total lost IPC, can you also mention total IPC production? You had close-to-1:1 trades in the early rounds, but Allies produce more I think. So the evaluation of a 1:1 trade comes down to, how far have Axis come so far.
Glad you are enjoying the series! Where in Kentucky? You might also want to check out the Spring Gathering. It is hosted by Greg Smorey (GenCon Event Organizer) in Wilder, KY, just south of Cincinnati. Hope to see you at Gen Con 2024! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Great game guys! Way to roll with the punches and not panic. Germany recovered well after some bad luck but really seeled their fate by first not using their sub against the transport and destroyer. He lost a critical fighter and didn't take out the transport (which cost him critical end game units later). Then, there is a bad purchase on turn 3. I feel after you can comfortable hold one of Russia's industrial sites you really need to pump artillery or tanks out it. My preference on artillery. I find a lot of good players under utilize artillery. I know my planning has gone well if by the time I am invading Moscow 2/3 of my infantry is paired with an artillery. In my opinion the rest of purchase turn 3 should of been tanks.
@hansstory agreed, except close industrial complex within range of a tank. I believe they did buy bombers in turn 4. If this is in reference to my problem with their buy, I listed my the issue was with turn 3.
Great commentary! Question: Is there no Japanese strategy where they build a factory in china? I'm not up to date with the rules, but in the classic game it was a feasible strategy that freed up the transports to go island-hopping while still putting 3 land units a turn into mainland china.
Building industrial complexes in the version is allowed. They cost 15 IPCs and have the some limitations are the original complexes. However, in tournament play, they are a bit to slow and they become big targets for the enemy. A complex in Manchuria can be taken by the Soviets or the Americans. That become really hard to recover from. Now... building a complex in Manilla.... 🤔 Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
This was great! I love these. I know this takes a lot of work to recreate for the videos, but it's awesome to watch. I am not sure how to stop the Thorpe Thump. I'm inclined to say they should have gotten more land units onto continental Asia or even tried to press that initial set of luck they had there. But that is risky and may not have worked. Ultimately their best chance to win would have been being more aggressive against Russia. Buying less infantry and more planes, as well as not losing that fighter to the destroyer (which was a useless move) could have made the difference in the last battle. I can't wait for the final round video!
Glad you enjoyed it! I think our opponents played really well against a tough strategy in a challenging environment. However, with perfect hindsight, if the Axis would have played with a greater focus on efficiency, they could have brought more to the fight in Moscow. We are playing 1942 Second Edition. You can find you copy at your local game store or by following this link: bit.ly/RenegadeGameStudios Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
To avoid moving the same unit twice, my friends and I implemented a rule where moved units MUST be layed on their sides. Aircraft are out upside down. Since we’ve done that there have been no more double moves! At the end of the turn, the moved units are put back up.
Which version of the game is this? I have about 3 different and older copies but really like this one. Been 30 years since Ive played but I need this one! Thanks! Great stuff! ...Ahh, see it now 1942! Great!...
Glad you found it! You should be able to find it at your local game store or using the link in our description. Also, remember that we are using the Larry Harris Gen Con 3.0 setup. You can find the specifics in a video on the channel. Have fun! Thanks for watching!
It would be great if you gave us the blow-by-blow of dice throws during the combat rolls for the big battles. It would have been nice to see how the AA guns did in Moscow or that sub-battle near Gibraltar. Possible for the grand final round?
I just love this "max 5-rounds" concept for the tournament. What prevented me from playing before was the time it consumes to complete a game and this immediately alleviates that. It also prevents "slow" play, which can drag out a game into a real slog, with too many dice at the end, when everyone is tired of having played the game for hours. I really wish the community would push this "max 5-rounds" style of play. Get the online version of the game to embrace the concept, as it makes the game much more fun. Two humble comments on the now infamous "Thorpe Thump" strategy. As UK: Without the extra units, usually gained by bidding, that initial UK attack to get the Japanese Battleship coming from Australia and India with everything is SUPER RISKY. You might win 60% of the time, but that 40% failure can be devastating. Without extra units, I find I need to spend money on naval units on turn 1, just to have "backup" navy protection, should that 40% come to pass. I wish I could afford to be as aggressive as UK is in these videos. As Russia: It's a cruel, cruel ride as Russia. I have yet to see the optimal play for Russia in this strategy truly outlined. Buying things like tanks and fighters on turn 1 to send east to China, is a luxury I can rarely afford. I try to maintain pressure from the north using the "mighty 7" amalgamation in eastern Russia, but inevitably, I sometimes wish those units were in Moscow by turn 4. It's fun to talk about how US can arrogantly buy Bombers every round, but I wish you guys focused on just how difficult it is to keep Russia alive in the Thorpe Thump strategy. Love these videos, some of the best A&A videos out there, please keep up the great work and know you are drawing new fans and rekindling old fans of the game with that hard work. I hope that makes you guys smile, I hope part of the reason you do this, is a love for the game and a desire to see it thrive. If that is the case, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Wow, very interesting game. what a finish! One thing I noticed was that the Axis players here seemed fairly cautious. They won a lot of battles, but mostly small ones that didn't net them much. Do you think it would have helped them to be more aggressive and take more risks? (not thinking of anything specific, just in general)
I think our opponents played really well against a tough strategy in a challenging environment. However, with perfect hindsight, if the Axis would have played with a greater focus on efficiency, the could have brought more to the fight in Moscow. Certainly enough to have forced the Allies to mount a greater defense. Enough to win? Maybe, maybe not. Thanks for watching!
This is essentially, an over complicated game of wackamole. Pls can someone create a WW2 wackamole board game. One side chooses where to poke their moles up, for the other to whack and visa versa. This has been a grreat experience for me to see, normally i play the 1941 Anniversary Edition of this game, which has a bigger map, and includes Italy as an Axis power. It is very similar to this game though, and i think im gonna try translating these strategies to my game.
Love this series. I have a question though, you explain that its unheard of for the bidding to be in favour of Axis and yet you don't explain why you suddenly decided to bid for Allies, what made you guys bid for them even know you likely believed that the other players would give you ipcs to take allies (even know they happened to not do so).
This is a very good question. We discussed it at length in the live stream. In short, it was situational. We had seen Donny and Ian's round 1 match. They were playing a very similar strategy to ours. So, we ended up bidding to try to try to keep our desired side. More in the live stream. Thanks for watching!
I know this is late but I love the stats in these sorts of things, at 51:55 when your friend stated there was about a 45% chance, he was incorrect, it was about a 37% chance with the attacker having a 63% chance of ending up with no units and the defender a 39.4% chance.
I appreciate you being heads up about our math, but I think if watch a few seconds more, you will see that I point out it was actually a 38% chance of victory. Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation My apologies, wasnt intending to sound prude with that, apparently didn't hear your clarification after the fact xD. Im an avid user of the A&A calc website for this sort of stuff. Would be curious if you guys are allowed to use them whilst you are in matches or if you have to just remember variations and do fast arithmetic on the fly.
It is no problem at all. We have definitely made mistakes. So, I appreciate folks out there double-checking the work! No electronic devices are allowed table side that would assist the players in the game in any way. We can bring written notes and use notepads to do math. We can use our phones to take pictures, set timers, whatever, but no calculators. Doing the math table side is the single biggest difference between online and face-to-face play. Looking at the board, counting the units on both sides, and making a decision while the clock is running, your opponents are sitting right there, and the world championship trophy is just a few steps away is a very different experience when compared to online play with 24 hours to make move from the couch. I like playing the game both ways, but I don't think people understand just how different they are. Hope to see you there!
I think there is a small error in the listing of units in US round 3 in 51:22. The US destroyer is not listed. Small mistake for otherwise EXCELLENT production.
Lol at the double moving Japanese infantry in SE Asia! Glad to see that we aren't the only ones who have things like that happen. Very interesting how the game changes with the tournament rules. The submarine duel! Lol 😄 The Germans bailing out of Africa at the outset, really aided the British in allowing them to turn their full attention on the Japanese, IMHO. I love the Thorpe Thump! At a cursory glance, it's real obvious that the Germans getting to Moscow in 5 rounds would be the counter balance. I also think the Germans being able to hurt the British economy in Africa and the middle east would serve two functions. Namely boosting the German income to go after Moscow, while at the same time cutting the UK budget on what they can spend on putting pieces in India and/or flying from Britain across Africa to the battle in asia.
Thank you for watching our Semi-final match! What did you think?
I think y'all clutched up in the biggest way! Those opponents were no joke, that amazing USSR T1 sure went pear-shaped quickly after that. Came down to the last battle, I watched with baited breath.
I also think one of the only feasible ways to combat a Thorpe Thump (TM) is for Germany to win in Africa and blitz through UK territory, softening India's production and power projection. Then Japan can stave off the USA a bit easier and reinforce Asia just enough to maintain footing.
Hey guys. When can we watch the final round of the championship? I'm very intrigued to see how y'all faired out..

Bring on the next one sirs! Can't wait!
The extra effort involved in using the real tabletop pieces for your recreation instead of online screenshots was so worth it. This series is great!
Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Really good point! Thanks for watching!
Completely agree - when I have forward factories usually that's where my infantry go to offset their plodding pace.
I've never played Axis and Allies (Risk is probably the closest I've come) but I was still able to follow and enjoy all tbe action which is a testament to how well these videos are structured. You've definitely earned a subscriber! I would love to see more content like this
Glad you enjoyed it! What other games would you like to see?
Thanks for watching!
@BoardGameNation More Axis and Allies! Honestly I would watch any strategy game in this format or similar format. Maybe play some of those Renegade games if they want to continue to sponsor videos? I enjoy the strategy discussions. Need to go watch the live streams now
Thanks!
Glad to hear it! You're very kind. Thanks for watching!
I think Germany focusing too much on infantry is what cost them the game. A lot more firepower could have been brought onto Moscow with tanks.
That gets 2 more units (Infantry) into the Moscow battle that they didn’t have in this game.
again their enemies played like the game lasts till someone wins and not for max 6 turns.
@@Metaguy8443 The other thing I thought of would be for Germany to build a few transports to force UK to build in the UK rather than India.
Love the recaps. Haven't played in over in decade, but this series is absolutely reigniting my passion for A&A.
Welcome back! Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
This is exceptionally well made!
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait to watch this! Thanks for this amazing series!
Thanks for being here!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I just discovered this channel and can't get enough of these! So well done! And full disclosure, I've never played the game, but itching to play. Such fantastic work by you guys. Creating content like this is no small effort, and you guys kill it.
Glad to hear it! Welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great editing, excellent interplay between you guys on the analysis and game theory! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Who knew that two men talking about how they rolled dice on a map with little plastic figures would be so entertaining. 🙂
Honestly, we had no idea. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
Y'all are helping me get the A&A basics down with these videos so I can start roping friends in. Keep 'em coming!
Outstanding! Thanks for watching!
Wow, what a game guys. I felt so excited for you both on that turn 5 swing. After the first few turns I felt deflated because I was certain that there was no way you could come back to win this. This one is the best games so far, congratulations and thank you so much for making the video.
Glad to hear the wonderful feedback! Thanks for watching!
Wait until you see the Finals!
Thank you for this series. It has definitely reignited my love for this game. I cannot wait for the final!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Welcome back!
I have been waiting for this drop all week. Thanks for sharing another great game, gents!
Thanks for watching, sir!
Once again amazing content and enjoyable recap for us to watch and enjoy!!! Once this series is over please consider doing more recaps in the same format!
Glad you enjoyed it! What games would you like to see?
Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation anything axis and allies. either 1942 or 1940 global preferred. either way will be watching your stuff
Been playing A&A since the blue box classic edition came into my knowledge 25 years ago! So great to see content like this! I'd love to see games from some of the variants - Europe and Pacific especially. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for watching! Sorry to report that "Classic" A&A came out in 1984... 40 years ago. Yeah. That hurts me, too. 🤣🤣🤣
@BoardGameNation yeah, I try not to think about it lol. Gotta bust out my Europe version and find some friends to play with now
I love these videos.
When you are ready you can pick Axis & Allies and Robo Rally here: bit.ly/RenegadeGameStudios
Thanks for watching!
Paratroopers! They can be a lot of fun.
Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Yay! Gary said Thursday and I had been constantly checking every waking hour and it finally appeared Saturday 1.00 am UK time!
Sorry for the delay! I was working on it all week and didn't finish it until right before it posted. To be honest, I haven't watched it! Did we win? 😀
Love these recaps, it makes Axis and Allies content really enjoyable to watch and I hope this is a model for the future. I realize there is a lot of work behind every video but boy it is really nice to see. Thank you!
Also I love the suspense and the storytelling!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Fantastic again. Thank you for all the time you put into these videos and immersing us into your experience.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
This game was so tense! The best match yet hands down. Worth it staying up late watching it
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
I only recently discovered this channel and I wanted to say thank you very much. I've wanted to get 1914 for years but I had given up because it was too expensive but since you told me they have reprinted it I'm planning to order a copy soon.
Awesome! When you are ready, here is the link: bit.ly/RenegadeGameStudios
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding! Just stumbled upon this video while dusting off A&A anniversary edition to play with my father. What an incredible analysis, great commentary, great game footage. Ive got a new series & channel to binge on. Keep it up!!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now, including Anniversary!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video, I've been waiting for this one since you posted the second game! Seeing turn-by-turn breakdowns of board games by high level players is really fantastic, and something I haven't found elsewhere on RUclips; really excited to see where this channel goes in the future!
So are we!
Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
The best breakdown of an A&A game I've ever seen, thank you!! I was super invested in the strategy of both you and your opponents
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I'm speechless how this ended. WHAT A GAME
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Hey, I wanted to let you know that late 2022 I started watching your vids and I fell in love with the game since! I have been watching your world championship videos and it has really made me want to go to the 2024 championship! Thank you for everything and keep it up!!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now. Hope to see you at Gen Con this year!!
Thanks for watching!
Love these videos watched all three now. This one has a slight high pitch hum throughout, didn't notice on others
It is when BGN speaks, not the other guy (idk name the one with glasses) so it is BGN's microphone
Thanks for letting me know! I'll definitely check that out! 🤔
Been loving these videos. I had gotten away from A&A on Steam but after watching Round 1 I decided to dust it off and have been really enjoying playing it again. Can't wait for the next one!
I'm sure these videos take a ton to edit but I really appreciate the quality. First time I've seen videos this good.
Love the series, well done mate!
Glad to hear the wonderful feedback! Thanks for watching!
Loving the plays, and explanations. Can't wait to see the 4th round!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I love these videos and the detail you put into them and explaining the thought process behind each move. I love this game when i was in my teens and twenties and miss playing There is just no one in my circle of friends and family or in my community I wished there was a way for folks like me to be able to connect thanks again and cant wait for the championship match
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I know these vids are outside of the norm for y'all. And they might be budgetarily straining. But i love this series and will return to more vids like this!
We are working on it now! Thanks for watching!
These are great videos of the events. Thanks for all the work putting these together.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
So fun! And so well made! Thanks a bunch!
So glad you enjoyed it! Working on more of them now.
Thanks for watching!
Great commentary and humor, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Your production and presentation are fantastic.

I'm really enjoying your report on the World Championship. The video's are well made, comment is really intresting and funny at times. Looking forward to the finals.

Great walkthrough of the game
I hope you guys make some strategy videos in the future!!
We just might do that! Thanks for watching!
I normally don’t watch hour long content but you guys are great! Keep up the good work
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Recently got (back?) into A&A Online after watching your Rounds 1 and 2 videos. I've been employing a KGF strategy, but this seems like a really fun way to pressure Japan as the Allies - looking forward to trying it out in my next game!
Welcome back! Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Good content gents, keep it up and please post more axis and allies.

Just love your commentary, fellas!
Glad you are enjoying the series! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Awesome content, looking forward to more tourneys

My friends and I played tons of Axis and Allies in the 80-'s. The rules were different back then, but in the end, we felt that the Allies have too much of advantage to keep playing. This round 3 game shows this. Still, Axis and Allies is a great game.
Did you get a chance to see our Round 2 match?
Thanks for watching!
I am missing Fortress America. 😢
You can follow the link in the description to pre-order Guadalcanal now from Renegade!
Thanks for watching!
lovin the content and ive watched all 3 rounds so far. Any chance for a War Room walkthrough like this?
Thanks for the suggestion! Adding to the video for the final!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Once get familiar with destroys, cruisers & artillary, do believe could hoñd my own with you guys
Love to see you at the table! Thanks for watching!
I have enjoyed this series so far and am awaiting the next round! Also, a friend and I are thinking about attending 2024 WCs. Cheers from Kentucky!
Glad you are enjoying the series! Where in Kentucky? You might also want to check out the Spring Gathering. It is hosted by Greg Smorey (GenCon Event Organizer) in Wilder, KY, just south of Cincinnati.
Hope to see you at Gen Con 2024!

I like your thinking! Thanks for watching!
Turn 4 purchases must be air unit to make it into the final battle on turn 5.
@hansstory agreed, except close industrial complex within range of a tank. I believe they did buy bombers in turn 4.
If this is in reference to my problem with their buy, I listed my the issue was with turn 3.
This series is great. Used to play all the time in college
Welcome back! Thanks for watching!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Certainly enough to have forced the Allies to mount a greater defense. Enough to win? Maybe, maybe not.

Great game! Certainly giving your opponents something to think about for next time!
Thanks for watching!
Very enjoyable video, thanks for all the work you put into it. Which version are you using to show us the game? 1942 second edition?
Yes, 1942 2nd edition with the Larry Harris set up adjustments.
We are playing 1942 Second Edition. You can find you copy at your local game store or by following this link: bit.ly/RenegadeGameStudios
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
To avoid moving the same unit twice, my friends and I implemented a rule where moved units MUST be layed on their sides. Aircraft are out upside down. Since we’ve done that there have been no more double moves! At the end of the turn, the moved units are put back up.
Not a bad plan! Thanks for sharing!
Love this series can’t wait for the final
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Binging this series 8 months after release. Are you guys planning on making a similar series for this years Gencon? Great content!
We are working on them now! Coming soon!
Thanks for watching!
That might be part of the final video. Not for every battle, but for one or two critical fights.
Thanks for watching!
I am really liking these.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
will you guys make a video on diplomacy? I love your videos and hope you keep making even better ones
At this time, we can not confirm or deny if that is in the works. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on the W. Looking forward to the finals. Good luck
Thank you!
Love this series been subbed since the 5 Russian openings video!
Thank you! 😀
Hahaha! I would be shocked if that game doesn't already exist!
Thanks for watching!
This has been a grreat experience for me to see, normally i play the 1941 Anniversary Edition of this game, which has a bigger map, and includes Italy as an Axis power. It is very similar to this game though, and i think im gonna try translating these strategies to my game.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks & great stuff
I think there is a small error in the listing of units in US round 3 in 51:22. The US destroyer is not listed. Small mistake for otherwise EXCELLENT production.
You are correct! Good catch!

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
is there a particular program that you use for your percentages? or is it a homebrewed spreadsheet or something?
We use David Skelly's calculator. You can find a link in the description!
