Thanks for uploading that. Covers very useful information, and there may not be any other videos out there. Especially was useful for truck drivers at the end of it. Wish it went a couple minutes longer.
They teach double clutch, but it's faster/easier to float gears and it won't hurt a thing if you do it right. Great video and a very clear explanation of how it works.
This is a good video. Why the transmission slings oil and doesn't need a pump, and how towing can damage it was something I didn't know. I noticed that none of the gears are helical like in my five speed car transmission. Probably helical would have forced using less durable types of bearings, or there were other drawbacks. An advantage of helical gears is less noise, and that probably just isn't important for a ten speed transmission.
These gearboxes are NOT synchronized, and the gears shift directly, there are no dogs. This means that helical gears would not work, as they would have to "walk" rotationally to mate into gear
Did you even watch the video? You're talking about sliding-mesh. The guy just said it is a constant-mesh transmission, and you can clearly see it. Correct, it is not synchronized, but incorrect, it DOES have dog gears. The instructor calls them more formally as "sliding clutch" gears. Further still, newer transmissions actually have helicals in the back box. Again, the instructor mentions that the transmissions the students will work on have helical back-box gears and this older trans still has spur gears in the back.
With helical gears there is an axial force - the gears try to force themselves apart. So you have to take that into account when designing a transmission, the gear bearings and the transmisson casing needs to be able to handle the axial loads. Bearings that could handle the load would probably take up more space, so this is more compact. The advantage of helical gears of course is smoothness and less noise. That's why race cars have straight cut gears, the case needs to handle much less force, and thus can be made lighter
Awesome hearing and seeing to know exactly what happens with a big rig 10 speed transmission! Awesome! Loved the lesson and enlightenment! From : THE SUPERSTAR OUTCAST AND UNDERDOG MISFIT! This was fantastic! Thank you very much for uploading this video! Always wondered how they achieve all those gears, up to 18 and stuff. Now I understood! Again, thank you for uploading and thanks to the skilled instructor!!
I also have an RT-613 which is the same as the 10 speed but has another section in the back for deep reduction thus having 3 reverses and 13 speeds there are 15 speeds but two overlap .. The heavier 13 speeds are 10 speeds with a Direct / Overdrive air controlled splitter.
Fuller Transmission Kalamazoo Michigan .. Twin Countershaft Transmissions are great invention .. They got bought out by Eaton of course.. Mac eve has a three countershaft Transmission
Hi. My truck is a 10 speed manual (Eaton) the gears stock was on high range (I was told that this was a minor issue) But The mechanic told me it's a big damage, they need to rebuild it for $ 3500 without labor!!!. I agreed. Then I found out, that he replaced it with another one, that one doesn't have a cooler (my transmission had one) tell me please if what the mechanic did is right/okay?. Should I accept this transmission ( the new one without the cooler)? He's working on the truck now, haven't finished yet.. I still have time... should I accept what he did or not?? Please reply 🙏
hello great video - I got a ? if you could help , I got a 2007 Freightliner columbia with a 10 speed trans. when i first crank my truck there is a rattle/grinding sound coming from the gear shifter and that will go on for say 2 or so hours and then it quiten down ALSO it seems to come and go through out the day...the only time i hear the noise is when i 1st crank up AND in 10th gear riding no more shifting, I hear the roaring.....I was hoping you might have an answer of some kind..! I do ask around, the most common answer i'm getting is- THATS A 10 SPEED FOR YOU - its wearing like we do the older we get....but when i got the truck it didn't make the noise like it is now , maby it is starting to wear - i can respect that. I got a lot of knowledge of the truck if you got a ? please ask ....THANK YOU
You have a damaged sliding clutch dog teeth or worn sliding clutch gear teeth on your main shaft gear. Maybe worn bearing on input/main shaft..Or possibility of worn fork or shift bar housing... detent broken. 1st You have to pull the shifter. See if there is any loose broken parts. Then pull the top cover.. if the issue isn't there.. then the transmission has to come out..😫. Usually most issues are in the top cover...
Now teach em about cheap ass pai and Chinese gears that don't have the keyway cut in the right place !! And they can't get it in gear or out !!! And don't forget to teach em about the used one some guy bought that's never been into but the air valve interlock plunger has wear Mark's indicating its been turned over. (Nothing wrong with that except that people lie about it) ETC ETC ETC. Then teach about those Spicer SST series TRANS !!! Now we're talkin transmission !!!
this dude is like the best teacher ever
Very good explanation of these dual countershaft transmissions. This instructor knows his stuff!
I'd pay good money to take every course this guy teaches
Right!
I commend this leader for sharing his knowledge and expertise free of charge. Great job.

He is the best teacher I have ever heard. Excellent.
Best breakdown explanation of a non-synchro heavy equipment manual transmission!
This man lecturing is a genius!
Some people can make a change in another persons life and their people that are only there to earn change.

Great video and a very clear explanation of how it works.
this is cool that your instructors let you record the lecture mine at wyotech would not let that happen
I used to take welding classes from the college I am from.
They would kill me if I was recording 😂

Great video explaining how the fuller eaton works you made so easy to understand
Thanks

Best explanation of a straight 10 direct drive Eaton Fuller.
excelent explination and demonstration

I rebuilt an Eaton RTO 6610 in 1985 20,000 hours later and 174,000 miles many off road in fields is still working fine
Excellent video! Everything makes sense now, thank you!
Man this is a real instructor!

Troy Lawver is a transmission genious!
Wow I never thought about towing
Great video!
Yes I changed my RT-6610 into an RTO-6610 by changing the gears inside now 5th gear is direct and 4th gear is overdrive makes a double u shift pattern
I have an rt510 I am trying to change to overdrive, any help or advice please???
the rear 2 gear is the high low range
GREAT VIDEO👍👍
Well done 👏🏻
Would love to know how that final sentence finished!
... when they first learn to drive/shift.
Good
This dude is cool
thank you for this haha cant find anything on these boxes . apprentice here haha

Check out amazing things. They serviced a 10speed manual. Way better to underatand the inside then go back here
Eaton good gearbox
Great video, but Portrait mode videos are the death of me.
Kinda simple nice
Are these transmissions any better compared to Eaton fuller ?
That is a Eaton Fuller transmission
I need transmission rebuild

How many miles are on the clock
Probably the throwout bearing on the clutch.
On same 10 speed what causes transmission to pop out of 4th & 9th gear? Would be helpful.

That’s not gettn any lube right there, allright- Larry the cable guy
twins have a 5 4 box
So ¿why the macks have triple countershaft?
extra beef in them to handle more torque
@@krazi77 👌
I was wondering what George Bush Jr. was doing now a days🤣
So more accurate to call this a dual range 5 speed...a true 10 speed would just shift all the way through 1st to 10th
@Robert B He is not correct.
Float them gears
That good video Sir. Can you give me about your school email and address.! Because. I want to come there study and practise it. Thank you so much.!
